I just wanna talk about how much I love your art style. It's very *bouncy*, if that makes any sense? I have a very weird sort of associations with things, if it had a taste, it would taste like blueberries, and I love blueberries.
Is there anything in particular you'd say gives your art style it's unique-ness? Any strong inspirations? And, do you have advice for someone (me, it's me) who would like to try playing around with different art styles?
~ 🔫 (water gun! Not gun!) Anon
Thank you so much! I am not good with words when i get compliments but they're super appreciated!
I looooove old dark age Disney. The rough style of animation is sooo nice! For expressions, GalooGameLady on tumblr is a huge inspiration! I highly recommend their you all check their art. As for animation, I love when it's snappy, so I am always looking to use as less frames as i can, while maintaining some fluidity. I used to do a lot of quickpose studies as well.
I would say, in my opinion, don't close yourself to an specific style, you are going to be influenced by your inspirations and those influences will evolve your style, and it can be quite frustrating when you box yourself on it. I just let it flow, and I totally agree with trying different art styles, even doing studies on your inspirations (just be sure not to post them). Change comes naturally, just be patient :)

do you have a masterpost with stock photos sites and reference for poses?? i always get a terrible art block while deciding what to draw but i don't know much ref sites with free photos.
Reference Generator for:
Humans
Sports
And I wrote a lot more in-depth about the topic here:

Here’s an excerpt of the article:
Other Awesome resources & websites for pose inspiration and reference
These tools are great because they offer you excellent references, which is great for doing studies or are in need of inspiration.
Posemaniacs - superb resource that allows you to rotate the poses in 3D w/ anatomy details. They also have timers and an app. It’s a good alternative to a full, human anatomy atlas.
Biodigital’s Human Visualization Platform - A really nice human anatomy atlas that is free. Another paid option that I love and use is Complete Anatomy by 3D4Medical.It goes on sale and is geared towards medical students, so it’s very indepth, accurate, and beautiful to look at.

Hope this helps!
Sorry I am super SUPER behind on asks and stuff. I sort of answer them out of order too. On my winter break, I probably will spend a lot more time catching up.
Thanks for reading! If this post helped, please consider reblogging it or sharing it with your friends! ❤️

>>replying to several messages ! ´ ᵕ ` ♡
(sorry for being so late,..i’m thankful to everyone for taking the time to send me a message)
Tumblr media
!!! !!SASAKO IS THE BEST. (Need...to draw again ....(anime version is nice too..<3))
thank you, and !!! im honored;;
Tumblr media
HEHE!! >:D you sent me this before the e3 trailers i think, you’ve probably seen them now and ahh! Her new look is so cute! Her skirt is way less puffy(?) than in my drawing but auoegbuoeg she looks adorable (shorter hair.♡)
Tumblr media
woh.;;;..thank you!
I don’t know if i can answer your questions satisfactorily(is it a word?), sorry in advance;; (and sorry for being LATE, very late)! I sort of talked about this in this post, but i will copy/paste it since there is a lot of text so it will be easier for you like this (it was an answer about improving drawing anatomy and poses):
“ Tbh I don’t feel the most qualified person to answer this, because i struggle so much with anatomy and poses it makes me cry
but what i can say is that i noticed some improvements in my drawings when i started to really draw regularly from life ; if you can, don’t hesitate to attend life drawing class with models etc, it really helps and it’s interesting.
Drawing from life in general is really a good exercice (and if you don’t know what to draw but damn you want to draw, it’s the best)
you can also look at yourself in the mirror to see if the pose you’re drawing feels natural (how would you place your hand if you stand like this? is this way of sitting really humanly possible, etc) (and take a photo if it feels necessary)
and don’t hesitate to draw feet/shoulders/whatyouwanttoworkon thousands of times !! or well, until you feel familiar with it :>
References are great. (i’m talking about inspiration/refs that help)
(you learn better by copying a picture than by tracing it imo) You will understand the human body better by intense observing;
for poses, the point is getting familiar with how the body is, how it moves, and how all the parts are connected with the others to make it look natural
Drawing simplified poses can help; draw them fast, without overthinking, to have the ‘essence’ of the poses
(I used to work from kpop dance practice video !) (i shoud do it again..:’^o)
I can recommend the Croquis Cafe channel on yt for drawing from models
https:// www (.) youtube (.) com /channel/ UCAZZ8kXStsAD_SJS9LWNdEQ
you can also take a look at websites like posemaniacs, quickposes.. (there are probably more)
And yeah, in the end, i just want to say: you will improve with practice and time, be sure of it !! “
But you had already your ‘keys’ in your message ! trust yourself! <3
and maybe you can try drawing faster without polishing everything or erasing etc
I will just edit a bit what i said in my old text by saying that if you’re young/unconfortable with nudity, life drawing class with model is not absolutely necessary of course, and you can make a lot of progress by drawing yourself, and by drawing your environment / the people around you / etc etc! Also tracing can help a lot (for practice!), but you can trace, then doing the same drawing with the ref without tracing, to see if you understood the forms. (sorry if i’m not clear i’m bad at explaining) photos and observations/study from life (paying attention to the light too!) will definitely make you improve
reference photos really are life saving when you struggle with something in particular. (Had to use one on my latest drawing (you can guess for what......)(..*whispers*toes.), and i looked intensely at my hand to draw kaneki’s and hide’s hands in the process as well.)
but well what i think in the end is the same: you will improve! You’re already improving, with every drawings you make and by questioning yourself.
maybe said like this makes the exercises seem boring or tedious(?) or something like that but really it’s not! :^D ; and don’t pressure yourself too much, have fun and keep drawing <3

hi ! i was wondering if you had any tips on how to draw poses and hands better? the hands in your art always look so nice hhhhh
Poses: use posemaniacs or quickposes,do 1 min gesture drawings daily, do 10-5 min studies. Use dynamicpose refs (like dancing, fighting, etc.) Make sure you know where the line of the spine, shoulders and hips are placed! If you can identify that on a ref, it’s easier to start! Here are some 1 min drawings I did just now:
Tumblr media
They don’t have to be overly detailed! But analyse them and find out what you need to improve!
Hands: you can do the same with thispage. Look up hand tutorials, do style studies. Hands are tough, buthands can be stylised very widely- maybe a more stylised comic-handstutorial makes you understand a hand better in the beginning?
What I’ve learned about hands (whichchanged how I view them) is that the fingers/knuckles are not placed on astraight line (sketch page bc what are words):
Tumblr media
not v accurate rn but I hope it helps with visualising 💕

20170118 23:47 Log
XB3992 (Honours) - Sassy Pants
Sassy Pants is the attitude filled, late teen antogonist of this game. Went I envisioned her, I imagined the kind of character you’d expect to see in a modern fairy tale, I wanted to give her the same vibe you get when you see characters such as the Evil Queen from the popular TV show Once Upon A Time...
She’s essentially a good kid turned bad from constant misunderstandings and misjudgments.  She gets the blame for most stuff anyway, so why not live up to her reputation?
I didn’t want her to be the kind of villain who is stuck in a lair or throne room somewhere. I wanted her and her outfit to look like she could actively defend herself, like she could just jump up on a horse at any minute to get away.
Tumblr media
I looked for characters that were active but had attitude. Characters like Nu-Lara Croft and Kate Beckinsale in Underworld were great references. Also like I said previously, the evil queen from Once Upon A Time gave off just the right level of ‘attitude’. I also used a classmates amazing pout for a little extra reference when trying to get a bit of Sass into Sassy Pants.
Tumblr media
I found that Sassy Pants came much easier to me than my last character, Dad. I'm not really sure what the reason behind this is. It could be that Sass is just a character that I’ve had a pretty definite idea of her image since the concept of this whole project, where as Dad I had just thought would be fairly easy and generic to draw until I actually got to him. It could be that since sorting out all my previous issues that I talked about in my last post, I’ve found a renewed sense of motivation with this project. I’ve also been drawing a lot more, so my workflow and general process of getting ideas just out and down on paper is much smoother and quicker.
I read an interview with Glen Keane, famous Disney artist where he talks about some of his process when creating characters.
So his [Ollie Johnston’s] animation was always a boiled-down sauce, like a spaghetti sauce that got really strong into one clear pose or drawing. Milt’s [Kahl] was about dynamic moving shapes, the poses were wonderful and strong, and Frank’s [Thomas] was very intellectual, very psychological – thousands of little busy lines, feeling the form. He could talk in depth about what was going on with the character, and communicate that way. You could see it in his animation, his characters movements are always rolling and turning in complex little arcs.
And me, I have a problem. I don’t see something clearly in my head. So when I was first animating, Eric Larson would say “So Glen, when you start, you see an image clearly in your mind and you draw it.”
I said “Well, um…I don’t see it”
And he’d say “Well sure you do, because you did the drawing!”
And I’d say “Well no, I really don’t!”
(Steed, 2014)
This was really nice to read for me, because that’s exactly the problem I have more often than not. I know in theory what I want the characters to look like, act like. But I cant translate that from my brain to page. A lot of my work just, appears, and then I have something to work on from that point. Which is what happened with Dad. When it came down to it, I had nothing to go from for a long time.
But this is something i’m trying to get better at. I’m going to be trying to draw more. Little and often. To try and get better at just translating what I have in my brain to paper.
Tumblr media
I started Sass by drawing some different poses using the quickposes website for generic reference shots. I then built up the character from there. Ideally I want to get at least one other iteration of Sass drawn up in a more traditional fantasy-style bad female villain costume. Something like this:
Tumblr media
Overall I’m pretty pleased with Sassy Pants so far. Im also pretty pleased with my own personal improvements in general - Next up; Princess Zara.

Hi I’ve been following you for a long time and it’s been helping me with my art work but I’m struggling of drawing masculine muscles (because any time I want to draw muscles it turns into a “snowman” and is there any tips or sources so that I’m able to practice muscle?
Hi there! Muscles are a really cool part of anatomy to study!
My best resource for learning artistic human anatomy would be the ebook I wrote on the topic. I also have created an anatomy framework & set of tutorials to help you learn proportions.
Trying to force yourself to draw muscles on a body from memory will be helpful to cement understanding. Recognition is very different than recall.
I think looking at a medical reference can be useful, though there are really good books on artistic anatomy.
Here is links to my master posts about anatomy:
