So my real, grown-up synthesizer is an Arturia Minibrute 2S. It's a lovely thing, all metal panels and wood end-cheeks, but there's an interesting detail in that wooden bit.

This socket is for what Arturia calls the Link system. It's meant to allow you to attach one of their RackBrute Eurorack cases onto a Minibrute, yielding a complete system that holds together and folds up.

Now, I don't have a RackBrute case, and, given the prices, I'm not likely to be getting one anytime soon. But I thought it might be nice to use the mounts to hold a stand onto the Minibrute, by just bolting a leg onto each side. The legs I'm going to cut out of some cheap thin plywood that I've glued together triple thick, and I intend to reinforce the holes with big fender washers. But what about the bolts?

My research turned up that the bolts required are just M7 machine screws. Now, these are difficult to find at all in the US, but I did manage to locate some hex-head bolts of that size. But what I really want is a set with nice, big knobs to make them easy to attach and detach — even more difficult! I do have some nice triangular knobs that'd work nicely, but they're threaded for 8-32 imperial screws, and while I could conceivably shave down the end of the M7 bolts and cut the appropriate threads into them, I don't have the skill or equipment for that. So I had to get a little weirdly inventive.

Here are the bolts. What I've done is taken the knobs and used an 8-32 screw to mount each one to an 11mm socket, which fits an M7 bolt perfectly. I've then used a two-part epoxy to glue the heads of the bolts into the sockets. Epoxy probably isn't the best for parts under high stress, but the actual force will be applied by the sockets to the bolt heads, and the epoxy is just there to hold them inside. We'll see how well this works, of course, but I have hope!
