Theo slowly opened his eyes as he heard what sounded to be his brother's voice echoing in the tunnel. His body was shivering, the cold, wet ground against his body having soaked through his jacket and jeans. It wasn't clear how long he had been lying there, in a pool of his own blood, and he didn't know how Nick had even found him; until he recalled the monster's last words to him "I’ll get someone to pick you up." He must have told Nick, causing him to panic, trying to sit up far too quickly and causing his head to spin and his stomach to turn. Rolling over onto his hands and knees, he brought up what little was in his stomach, retching and gasping until he felt the hand of his brother against his back.

"Nico..." His voice was weak, didn't even sound as though it were his own, and he looked down to his clenched fist to reveal the coin that had been left for him to deliver. He was a mess, sweat and blood having coated his hair to his skin, his limbs feeling weak, and he turned to look up at his twin. "Por que? Por que você… escondeu isso de mim?"

Remaining cautious, but not wanting to escalate things too quickly, Ben slowly lowered his weapon as he watched the man hold up his hands. He knew too well that someone could feign surrender, trick someone into thinking that they were not a threat, but he also wasn't about to start shooting over nothing. If anything, it was a waste of ammunition that he could not afford.

"You're staying in that place?" he asked, motioning to the nearby cabin that he had intended to check, keeping his gaze on the stranger. "Not exactly what you'd call a cosy weekend getaway..."

Ben's head was spinning and his stomach turning, the blood loss getting to him a great deal. He actually didn't know how long it had been, how many times this man had taken from him, but it was long enough to leave him confused and exhausted. He had not encountered this vampire before, had no past encounters with him for this to be personal, however it seemed to just be a chance that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Hearing the amused words from the man hovering over him made him want to shout, to fight back despite how weak he felt, but as he rolled over slightly, all he could do was go limp and lay there in stillness. The entire situation felt too familiar, memories of his youth and his torment in the nest rushing back.

Silence fell around him, and it took him a moment to realise that he had been left alone, wondering if this man simply knew that he would not be able to easily escape. But then he heard something. The rushing of footsteps getting closer in a fast manner, and a slight turn of his head revealed Nick having entered the room, crying out the worried words in his direction.

"Nick..." he breathed out, reaching blindly with his hand. "You have to get out of here... Not safe." He wasn't able to fully articulate the concern, but he did not want his partner getting in trouble or worse because he tried to save him. "Please... Go."

Ben's heart was almost in his throat as he offered the older brother a friendly smile in greeting. He glanced towards Nick with a hint of colour in his cheeks caused by the compliment, nodding his head slightly as he observed the interaction between the two siblings. He got the impression that Rafael hadn't necessarily been aware of their meeting today, and it made the hunter a little uneasy, but when a hand was extended to him, it took the edge off just a little.

"The pleasure's all mine." Ben replied, shaking the others hand as he noticed the rather firm grip. He managed a weak chuckle when Rafael mentioned the way Nick had spoken about him. "Um, well as long as it's all good things, I guess." He glanced to Nick who looked rather uncomfortable and he smiled softly. Sitting down, he got comfortable and waited for the other two men to join him, sliding menus over to them both.

"Oh... Well, I'm not all that exciting really. I'm in pest control." he replied, hating how lame that sounded, but it was a lie without being a complete lie. He did take out pests, just not necessarily the kind one might assume. "I have my own small business and I travel around a lot... As for where I'm from, originally Chile by way of Texas."

The ambush had come out of nowhere and Ben wasn't entirely sure what had happened. All he knew was that splitting up on their search had been a rookie error that he should have known better than to make. He came back to his senses with the taste of blood on his tongue and the feeling of pain in his leg, suspecting that it had been broken.

"Mierda..." He moved to stand, trying his best to gain his footing while using the wall for support, however he felt his injured leg give out beneath him, sending him plummeting back down. Fortunately, he felt hand grip him before he could hit the ground, recognising his partner immediately as he relaxed into the grip. "Hey amor... You timed that... beautifully."

Staring intensely at the damaged vehicle, Ben's heart rate increased slightly at the thought of what could have done that. Why would the nest have sent someone to damage this man's car? Was he simply in the wrong place at the wrong time? Either way, it meant that he now had someone requiring his protection and he wasn't entirely a fan of that fact. It wasn't that he disliked the idea, but it meant he had more than just the hunt to focus on.

"It's ok." he replied, dismissing the apology, however before he could respond any further, he heard the movement from nearby and spun around to face the bushes, gun at the ready. At least Nick had the right idea in staying close, and he aimed the weapon expertly, throwing a small glance to the other man. "Stay close, stay behind me."

"Nick?" There was a moment when he first awakened when he didn't entirely realise what was going on, what had happened. All he knew was that he was lying in a hospital bed with his partner by his side. But then it began to rush back to him. The fear, the growling, the pain, the blood... Everything was there and instantly he had to fight the urge to bring up what little was in his stomach.

"No, you... You're a..." He couldn't even bring himself to say it, to mention the word as it hit him like a kick to the gut that Nick had hidden that from him. Had he been in a more reasonable mindframe, he would have likely understood the secrecy to an extent given their first meeting, but all he knew was that he had just found out Nick's secret in the worst possible way.

His silence was deafening when he allowed himself to process what Nick was saying. He hadn't gone into that much details about what happened in his past, about what happened to his son, but he was sure that he had mentioned enough to make the other man know that something was there. Some dark shadow from his past that hung over the hunter, holding him captive in his own mind. But as they had began to grow closer, perhaps he could trust the other with that part of himself.

"I had a son." he began, the words seeming almost painful to get out as his eyes glistened in the dim light from the table. "I was still a kid myself, but I got out of hunting and I had a life. I had a family, I thought I had it all right. But it was all a lie, this world never leaves you. He would have turned fifteen today. But I screwed up, I let myself think I could have a normal life and he died because I thought I could just turn away and pretend this world didn't exist..."

Ben's family moved around a lot, shifting from town to town leading to him being the new kid at many schools throughout the years. When he was 16 years old, he joined a small school and tried his best to fit in, but sadly, his efforts were shrugged off. That was, however, by all students except one. A young boy in the same year as him, sat behind him in his science class and who seemed to spend every non-lesson moment in the library surrounded by books. Ben and Nick began talking one lunch time when Ben knocked a handful of books off a shelf, which Nick instantly ran to assist with, and they became fast friends. Over the months, friendship slowly began to grow into something more, and Nick was Ben's first kiss. Sadly, the time came to say goodbye when his parents decided to move again, but they promised to stay in touch.
