Despite not have made a model in 40 odd years, it's really difficult for me not to notice 'oddities' with RAF aircraft markings.

This glorious sole surviving BP Defiant night fighter has a very (non-standard) font for its squadron code letters. Is this accurate? @RAFMUSEUM

A special grouping from my collection. Such a poignant group to a unbelievably brave young man and Officer Plaque Scroll and various pieces of ephemera to Lieutenant Harold Jameson MC DCM MM RFC. From Whitby, sister was Storm Jameson, a Suffragette and close friend of Vera Brittain. She proofread Testament of Youth MM = Medal Militaire for Gallantry in August 1914 aged 17 as an Air Mechanic DCM aged 18 in June 1915 ‘ For Conspicuous coolness and gallantry on several occasions in connection with wireless work under heavy fire’ Commissioned November 1915 MC November 1916 ‘ For conspicuous gallantry in action. He attacked a hostile kite balloon under very heavy fire. Later, his machine descended to within 150 ft of the ground, when he got the engine going again and crossed our lines at 1300 feet and returned safely. He has on many occasions done fine work. 【RIAT2018遠征】⑫コスフォード王立空軍博物館／COLD WAR編(2018/7/16)

【COLD WAR】

最後はこの博物館のメインコンテンツとも言える、冷戦館(Cold War)です。 広い建物ですが所狭しと冷戦時代を象徴する展示機が置いてありますが、比較的暗いせいもあって撮影は一苦労です。

でも以前から見たかった3Vボマーも一度に見ることができます。

①ヴァリアント B.1 / イエローサンMk2水爆 / WE177戦��核 　英国製の航空機で唯一核の実弾を投下したことがあるのがヴァリアントです。イエローサンとWE177の模擬弾も展示されています。

②ヴィクター K.2 　変態的な外見のヴィクターです。設置位置的に全景は撮れませんでした。

③ヴァルカン B.2 　3Vの中で個人的に最も好きな機体がヴァルカン爆撃機です。おそらくコイツがこの博物館の主でしょうか？爆弾倉には増槽が搭載されていました。

④ライトニング F.1 　上昇力のアピールなのか、設置場所がないのかはわかりませんが垂直に吊ってありました。

⑤ファントムII FG.1 (の機首) / コックピット

⑥バッカニア S.1 (の機首)

⑦F-111F 　RAFレイクンヒースに駐在していた米空軍のアードバーク。

⑩セイバー F.4 　天井から吊られてて一瞬存在に気づかなかったカナダ製のF-86。

⑪ジャベリン FAW.1

⑫MH-53 ペイブロー

ミサイル類も豊富に展示されていました。一部だけ紹介します。

⑬ブルースチール  巡航ミサイル

⑭スカイボルト 空中発射弾道ミサイル 　3Vボマーに搭載予定だった��ど、米国で開発キャンセルとなったミサイル。

⑮ポラリスA3 潜水艦発射弾道ミサイル

⑯ALARM 対レーダーミサイル 　発射後に落下傘を開いて敵がレーダーを始動するのを待ち、始動確認後に落下傘を切り離し2個目のロケットエンジンに点火して目標に向かうという変態ミサイル。

⑰ファイアストリーク 空対空ミサイル 　英国産2作目のAAM。性能は低いけどライトニングに搭載すると何故か機体の空力性能が上がるという謎ミサイル。

⑱ブラッドハウンド 地対空ミサイル

⑲シーダート 艦対空ミサイル

スポンサーの皆様 この素晴らしい博物館を無料で見学できるのもスポンサーのおかげです。

という訳でこれでコスフォード王立空軍博物館の見学は終了です。1周するのには3時間ほどかかりました。

ちなみに冷戦館にもグッズの売店と小さいカフェがありました。帰りの電車(約1時間間隔)まで時間が結構あったのでここでジュースを買って休憩。

この後、2時間以上かけてロンドン市内のホテルまで戻りました。

【感想】

・日本では見られない世界中の機体が展示されていて素晴らしい。 ・英国面な機体も沢山あります。 ・機体がキツキツかつ暗い場所に展示されているので、撮影するなら広角かつ手ぶれ補正付きのレンズを持っていくべき（AF-S 24-70 f2.8GだったのでVRが無くてキツかった） ・ロンドン市内からだと往復5時間程度かかるので疲れる。

Today, ´S-for Sugar` is on display at RAF Museum in Hendon, London as she survived the war after those 137 missions over enemy territory (later reduced to a 125 mark after study of her log book). This is the oldest surviving Lancaster, it was moved to the RAF Museum in 1972.

There are 17 known largely complete Avro Lancasters remaining in the world, but only two are airworthy.

The Royal Air Force Museum in London has 5 huge buildings displaying a wide variety of aircraft and other items related to the RAF. It has loads of planes on display, modern and historic. There is also a 5m (16.4ft) statue to Sir Keith Park, the New Zealander who was commander of the fighter group who defended London during the Battle of Britain during WWII. He is known as the 'Defender of London'.
