I assume part of 15's narrative is going to revolve around the post-identity crisis that arose within 14 around the timeless child arc, and possibly some kind of search to discover their origins... im fascinated by this coming up in 15's arc, in the sense that it makes it seem like 14 was perfectly happy to park those questions and just have a nice time doing self-care for x amount of years, so all of these feelings were lying dormant because 14 didn't feel the need to know, and then perhaps resurfacing now as 15 is (re)building a (new?) sense of self and isn't so goshdarn tired of things. is this the first time the question on doctor who has genuinely revolved around the "who" part for the doctor as well as for the characters they meet? (no shush the stupid "doctor's name" business doesn't count, that wasn't about identity, that was m*ffat's weird penchant for randomly inserted destiny that never really went anywhere)

it's a bit angsty yes, but it's also very invigorating that part of the source of travelling is this genuine mystery after a nice long rest, and not bone-weary exhaustion and regret at the past. it's inherited from previous who, but it's got a lot of potential to go anywhere

Jumping off your "educating you" post: I think the modern left's biggest problem is a fundamental lack of epistemic humility. Other examples include: "the right side of history", governments branding dissent as "disinformation", hair-trigger banning from social media, etc. (Not that rightists like me don't have problems of our own, but I haven't seen this particular problem very much, and when I have seen it it's appeared to be a conscious attempt to imitate the left.)

Probably, though I wouldn't necessarily say it's a set of behaviours particularly unique to the left, moreso that it's a set of behaviours you can expect from a group that's kinda-almost-dominant, which the left happens to be in some countries right now.

Almost nobody actually has a principled stance on free speech. People will pretend to believe in free speech when they feel their speech is threatened, and they'll stop believing in free speech as soon as it becomes feasible and advantageous to threaten someone *else's* speech.

It's pretty default human behaviour to be biased. Sometimes this manifests as superstition, sometimes it manifests politically, but fundamentally it's not the default for humans to be especially scientific or scrupulous or rigorous with the truth. That's the exception that you have to work hard at, because it's so much more natural and so much easier and so much more satisfying to let yourself think you know something instead of admitting you don't.

So I wouldn't necessarily say it's a case of bad epistemology (which I think the right is probably worse at (I mean, like, 90% of them believe in god! (haw haw))) so much as... the left just having its hooks in the kinds of places that gets people banned, having a rather heightened sense of how Evil the opposite side is, and... well I'd say a lot of that is goaded on by The Right behaving in stupid and antagonistic ways that makes the left more paranoid.

Like how the right just... keeps deciding that it has to denounce anything that the medical establishment says and endorse anything it doesn't and arbitrarily make things into partisan issues for no other reason than Fuck The Blue Team.

(Though I guess the left -also- acts in stupid and antagonistic ways that make the right more paranoid and have a heighetened sense of how evil the left is - I suppose those two points cancel out, so we're left with "the left just having its hooks in the kinds of places that gets people banned" so I guess that's that then.)

my kinitopet AU is set IN THE MODERN TIMES !! with the technology AHH EVERYTHING !! it's POST-CANON wherein the user (who i mostly represent as,,,ME, birdy) chose to STAY WITH KIN!! in this timeline the user first met/downloaded kinito on the old ass computer, and THEN relocated him to a more MODERN desktop !!!!

this is mostly a FEEL-GOOD AU where kinito has been redeemed and no one has to get sucked into code<3(at least, not yet) as the user teamed up with 'nito, agreeing on a VR-type environment. user gets to put on the VR headset with their own avatar and everything and see kinito DIGITALLY !!!!

kinito REPROGRAMMED the world he made for them both and put it in some kind of ,,, vr chat setting idk...oh also the user is experienced w/ programming

when asks are sent, it shows up on the "screen" if the user isn't in VR, and shows up in the "sky" if they ARE !! most asks will be shown as a png/image canonically that the user gets through their NOTIFICATIONS unnLESS the asks are embedded in some kind of . physical (digital) body. or an avatar. like if an anon wants to hug someone they'll have a physical body.....ouu..i;ll draw those LATER!!!

Weird that they are placing so much emphasis on having bio kids as the ultimate form of happiness and legacy, when Mr. Miyagi is like, right there. Do the writers think of him as different/a tragedy because he would have had it if his wife and son didn’t die, or did they just forget?

that family structure is suspect dude, sounds queer to adopt a kid who's being bullied, years after your wife and child died and then not even knock up his mom, what are you gay?

at the very least don't pretend it's a real family you've got there, you'll always be a tragic sad man, without your biological progeny, which is the only kind that matters, and only if done in the Correct way (single parents need not apply)

weird we had the "tanmee" line in s3, but this season just straight up forgot a lot of its own building blocks in favour of some weird aggressive and regressive heterosexual bullshit -- the more I think about it the more discomfort I feel, which isn't to make this deeper than it is, I don't think there was bad intent. I think there was a tragic lack of imagination and it coincides with some real-world Politics that the show doesn't care about and is tacitly conservative about, but I sign onto the show not to be reminded of that world

a lot of people have mentioned that the show bears very little resemblance thematically to the core of the original (two) movies -- it's always been conservative in its depiction of military and war and violence, and simplified an actually incredibly complex, and yet incredibly clear-cut messaging that positions Miyagi (and his ideals) on one side and Kreese (and his ideals) on the other, with very clear reasoning as to why one is right and one is not

the show has been antisemitic, it's been racist, it's had a lack of queer characters that is all the more obvious in a story about a group of outcast kids with found family themes (first produced in 2019), and it's been sexist/underwritten the value that women have in a story about legacy and toxic masculinity and gender roles

and in fandom there have been interesting bits of analysis and writing from very talented and clever people to acknowledge these unexamined prejudices and flaws. they have been challenged in art and in narrative, and there has been plenty of discussion about where we can suspend disbelief and what we (individually) won't take onboard in our own various tellings of the story

up until s5 I have been able to hold that tension, because I truly enjoyed the story and the underlying themes and characters and was baseline expecting those themes and motivations to still matter

but oof the way that this season became entirely divorced from any of the show's own grounding themes, hasn't only made the characters hollow to me, but it's also made me realise (and hey, maybe I should realised this sooner, more fool's me) that they really don't give a shit about Miyagi

which is crazy because the story's about him.

EDIT: and i do still feel deeply uncomfortable about the final fight, and generally how daniel “defeating” anything was done totally absent of miyagi’s ideals -- the only way to solve anything is violence now. beat the other guy into submission to beat your fear i guess. meaningless to what daniel’s journey was, but good to know he’s also manly enough now

and more importantly than anything in a story that's just about liking or disliking trajectories and reads... I am deeply uncomfortable with its politics now

I think how I felt about s4 was that it had some moments I didn't like, but the trajectory made sense to me. with s5 there are moments I do like, but it's empty. I don't know why anything in the last episode happened. I feel intense discomfort about the treatment of women and girls. And to be clear I don't think that there was an intentional drive to make the messaging... that about queerness versus dominating toxic heterosexuality, but honestly I'm living in a pretty shitty world these days with a lot of backsliding in equality and I don't think that I can happily shut off my brain and watch something that conservative anymore

it's not technically anything deep as such, it's not real life. I've really enjoyed the show, I've made some lovely friends through it, and read some of the best fic, and gotten to hype up some wonderful artists and I'll stay in fandom, but I think I might be done with the show itself

but hey, miyagi adopting this skinny little punk from new jersey and giving him some valuable life lessons only for this kid to adopt him right back, that I can rewatch a million times and like I said -- the story is all about that (and it most certainly isn't a tragedy)

What do you thnkk would be the healthy and mature way of dealing with those emotions when it comes to us, humans?

Theres another thing i wanna ask. Do you believe there are ppl who feel those negative emotions or maybe all ❔ emotions more intensely which results in them handling it worse or could it b that the fundamental emotion is similar in all of us but it’s the ways we conduct ourselves while the feeling arises that matters and shows more? As an example we have two people who get extremely angry but one has less self control/insert other quality which makes them lash out in rage while the other doesn’t? The one is explodes/implodes might argue that they feel things more intensely but it’s so hard to measure isnt it? Who is to say they feel more intensely rather than… act more intensely when they feel said emotion

i think the healthy way to deal with things is to learn about emotional regulation and to gauge the way you find best helps you regulate. some people can address issues immediately whereas others need time to process. some people need to workout or expel excess energy, some people need to meditate, some need to journal or write it out to gain perspective, others (despite the work they do to regulate themselves) are trying to find resolution with unregulated individuals which itself can be a huge trigger so in that case maybe doing some work on staying detachment and learning in your own orbit rather than getting sucked into other peoples realities and perceptions of reality is beneficial. idk. it really is subjective and situational so i cant sit here and give a prescriptive answers cause life is more nuanced than good v bad/right v wrong

i think that there are people who are more sensitive to others but that doesn't necessarily mean they feel more than others. heightened awareness, preexposure to trauma and life experience all shape a person, their perception and their reaction to things. (im sure u know this). so its fair to say no two people are the same, and as such peoples tolerance for pain or discomfort is also not the same. some people are always in pain and so are so numb to it they seem high functioning. just because theyre not as reactive doesnt mean they dont suffer. on top of that one person may find the prospect of abandonment petrifying whilst another wouldnt even recognise the interaction as abandonment, theyd see it as simply separating paths. all of that is based on conditioning, preexposure, and the families/societies/countries were born into
