J’ai réussi à esquiver ma mère avant qu’elle ne rentre, et j’ai donné rendez-vous à Mariko au bar d’Oasis Springs… on va voir si je peux essayer de rectifier le tir… !

« Merci d’être venue, Mariko… il est encore tôt, je sais, mais il fallait que je te parle.

— Aucun problème, Gabriel… ! »

Ça me fait bizarre de la voir. Elle avait des roses dans les cheveux, hier, pour le festival de l’amour… C’est vrai qu’elle est jolie, au naturel, comme ça, aussi… Qu’est-ce que je raconte ? Elle ne m’intéresse pas, cette fille, bon sang !

« Hm… En fait, hier, c’était sympa, mais… je voudrais pas que tu t’imagines des choses…

— Oh, ne t’inquiète pas, je connais ta réputation, je n’espérais rien de plus que du bon temps… ! »

Bon, c’est déjà ça, elle est pas raide dingue de moi… Parce qu’il y en a eu, des filles et des mecs qui sont revenus, le lendemain du « bon temps », comme s’ils étaient maintenant mon petit-copain ou ma petite-copine… Je pense être clair pourtant, mais bon… Enfin, y’a toujours les exceptions Neelesh et Sarah, mais… je préfère ne pas y penser maintenant…

« Ok. En fait, la vraie raison pour laquelle je voulais te voir, c’est que je connais quelqu’un qui… t’aime bien, on va dire… »

Elle hausse un sourcil mais se lève pour aller chercher son soda que je nous ai commandé et je fais de même, avant de m’asseoir au bar. Elle attend, me regardant avec un air intrigué et dubitatif…

— Aah, je le savais !

— Pardon ? »

« Attends, je pense que dans le genre pas discret, il se pose là ton frère, haha !

« Bah, écoute, apparemment, dans ta famille, les gênes de beaux gosses sont assez évidents, donc pourquoi pas.

— Je crois qu’il veut un peu plus que ça, malheureusement…

Elle me fait un clin d’œil et je lève les yeux au ciel. Bon, au moins, mon abruti de petit-frère a une chance de pouvoir sortir avec son crush… On verra bien ce que ça donne…

Avant qu’on se sépare, je lui ai donné le numéro de Raphaël, pour qu’elle puisse le contacter. Si c’est moi qui lui en parle, ça sera trop louche… !

Dès que Gabriel a franchi la porte, je m’en suis donnée à cœur joie. On ne fait pas tourner sa mère en bourrique ainsi sans représailles, surtout si elle s’appelle Solange Berry !

Il me fait un sourire penaud et avant de filer faire ses devoirs dans sa chambre.

Baseball Sparks Big Things for Local Non-Profits

What do baseball and real estate have in common? On the surface, it may not seem like much. However, in 2016, Kathleen Kellett-Ward and her family opened their doors as a host family to four Waynesboro Generals baseball players. The league gives post-college players an opportunity to enhance their skills and possibly move on to the major leagues. Being a host family was such a great experience that when the opportunity arose to acquire the Waynesboro Generals, the longtime league supporters were happy to take charge.

Early this year, another unique experience presented itself to the new owners of the Waynesboro Generals. Converge Local, a marketing agency headquartered in Staunton, VA, approached Kathleen and her husband, Brent about the Waynesboro Generals being part of Spark Tank for Non-Profits, a $20,000 Mission Accelerator Giveaway competition. The idea to host a Spark Tank for Non-Profits Home Run Derby featuring the Waynesboro Generals vs. the Staunton Braves evolved as the capstone event for the project. Many people aren’t aware that both the Generals and the Braves are also non-profits. So, it seemed like a natural fit for the teams to help out other non-profits in the area. 

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Leading up to the Home Run Derby, eight non-profit finalists were chosen during the voting round of Spark Tank for Non-Profits. Those finalists have been matched with either a Wayneboro Generals or Staunton Braves player who will hit home runs on their behalf on Saturday, June 23rd from 12-2pm at the Kate Collins ball field. The winner of the Spark Tank Home Run Derby will win a $10,000 marketing package. Another $10,000 marketing package will be awarded to the winner of the proposal round of Spark Tank for Non-Profits.

Gates open at 11:30am and tickets are good for admission to the Spark Tank Home Run Derby and the Waynesboro Generals vs. Staunton Braves game at 7pm that evening.
