after her shift ray went to shambles to get herself a drink or two before heading home for the rest of the night. ray didn't mind the loud live music, often times it made it to where she didn't have to think which was exactly what she needed. "another drink," she said to the bartender, not noticing the person who sat next to her.

ray gave a little nod as she took the snack cake from her, holding it down to her side while she listened. "i get it, do you have a job right now?" she asked curiously. she wasn't going to judge if the other didn't, she got it, sometimes one could have a job and then the next moment said job is gone. "don't worry about it, save the money you get for yourself."

they had gone quiet as the other spoke, turning that snack cake over in their hands a few times. but then henny let out a sigh, extending their hand so the other could take it. "every time i think i'm making progress towards no longer having to steal, something comes up and i'm right back to it. i just want to be able to have a meal every day, y'know?" they paused, gaze finally finding the other's again. "thank you for this. i'll pay you back as soon as i can."

ray looked over the counter at phoenix's shoes. "you just gonna let people see your feet for free? damn. couldn't be me." she went back to how she was and took a sip of the energy drink, leaning now on the counter space behind her. "same old shit, we're getting more stuff in tomorrow so hopefully it's a lot. christmas is coming up maybe the rich pricks are clearing out their closets to make room for more shit."

Phoenix shrugged, knocking his fist against one of his legs, "Starting to think I shouldn't bother with shoes, not like I got any covering on these things." He'd opted against it, another thing to pay for, he'd felt guilty enough over his parents taking the hit. Browsing the shoes near his size he glanced over at Ray. "Should I bother to ask what's new or is it same old bullshit?"

ray was behind the counter flipping through a magazine as she waited for a customer to walk in, some days it was slower than others and this just happened to be one of those days. she didn't really look up until she heard the door open and close, accidentally staring the person down. "let me know if you need anything," she said before looking back down. her customer service could use some work but she also didn't like shoving herself at people if they didn't need or want the help. it's just annoying for the both of them.

ray wasn't fully listening to the conversation the bartender was having with the other patron but she caught the tail end of it and wanted to see how that was going to play out but still wanted her own drink. "hey, can i get a black russian? as strong as you're willing to make it."

The music was loud, the energy was high, and it let her get close to her rudest without risk of physical harm. If you punch your bartender, you won't get any more drinks!

She put the finishing orange slice and straw into a drink and handed it off to a patron who was already swaying slightly on their feet. "Here, if your dancing's still that bad after this, come back later and I'll make you another one. You'll either improve or pass out, win-win." She turned to whoever was flagging her down next. The wind felt sharper than it should for this time of year. Sahana rubbed her arms and cringed as another gust hit. She looked up at the sky, annoyed that it had tricked her into wearing such a light outfit. "What happened to spring? It's cold out here." She tugged her jacket tighter, regretting her choice of a thin blouse this morning. This whole coffee meet-up was turning into a mistake—at least the outdoor part of it. The weather app on her phone had completely missed the mark. Again. No surprise there. Maybe that new boutique would be warmer. They could browse a bit until their reservation time. She wasn't about to spend another minute freezing when there were perfectly good indoor options nearby. Her watch showed they still had twenty minutes to kill before they needed to be there anyway.
