I was still debating it by second episode, but now I’m 100% positive.

The characters are absolutely based on the main crew of The Wizard of Oz.

Malcolm is the Tin Man (metal arm, family works in munitions).

Edgar is the Scarecrow (tall, spindly, has burns on his body)

Leo is the Lion (cowardly, foppish, literally named after a lion)

Grimoria is Dorothy, a little girl desperately trying to find a home.

Sometimes a family is 3 men in a gay polyamorous relationship and the young woman they adopted as their little sister.

Matt Mercer: Horror is monsters

I do always love the makeup changes over the Candela seasons. Seeing the actual effect of the events on the characters is very cool.

So Matt was like: mushroom people (affectionate) and then Liam was like: mushroom people (derogatory)

I love that half of this circle has, like, actual jobs that they're missing because of their work for Candela and have to deal with the consequences of that absence, regardless of how pointless it feels in the face of the phenomena they've been facing. Finally, representation for those of us who have to show up to a more-or-less tedious desk job while it feels like the fabric of reality itself is crumbling.

While it would have been very poetic for Grimoria to survive alone and find Leo's letter for her in his apartment, leaving her everything, I think it's absolutely perfect for Leo's big dramatic (earnest, thoughtful) gesture to get an inconvenient wrinkle in its neatness, which is that he survives. Sorry Leo there is spilled wine on the tablecloth of your plans and it's you. You do have to figure out how to keep going actually
