[Assume all links in this first paragraph are 18+] Aside from stuff that I haven't posted here, I still quite like this one which ticks both boxes, or at least ticks one and is extremely suggestive of the other. This one is also one that I still like and I plan to revisit the idea behind it later to fix some stuff and add it to the timeline when I get there. These two are also nice and sweet.

For my next trick I'm going to use this ask to shout out some other creators (because I was secretly hoping to get this ask to do just this lol)

I absolutely missed people, but I hope that showcases at least a small handful of the other people out there doing beautiful romantic work as well. I am particularly fond of anything that is very sweet and soft.

I like Thancred so much and find him a genuinely sympathetic character right up until someone starts insisting to me that he isn't really responsible for how he treats Ryne for like... most of Shadowbringers, because he's sad (or worse, "it's Minfilia's fault" for, you know, asking him to take care of the the child he voluntarily assumed responsibility for and see to it that her life is maybe less of an absolute hell than it could be and that previous Minfilias' undoubtedly were. how dare she).

It's a sore sport for me already in Shadowbringers how much the narrative centers his feelings over both Ryne's and Minfilia's, for reasons I've discussed before, and I consider his relationship with Ryne and how it's handled to be one of Shadowbringers' biggest writing weaknesses. It's just exhausting to talk about because no matter how much I qualify that I do not dislike Thancred, someone always has to come out of the woodwork to make the discussion about how he is very sad and it is unfair for him not to get all the sympathy in the world all the time, instead of what I was actually talking about which is the narrative framing of how he treats Ryne and what the story suggests that the problem is (he just can't express his feelings, thus when he smiles and calls her family the problem is framed as solved) versus what I would argue the problem actually is (his inability to see past his own feelings and recognize that his behavior is hurting her, which I do not see him actually acknowledge or attempt to make amends for).

I like Thancred! He's a good character! I just think Shadowbringers really fumbles the ball on his storyline, and that is an extension of how the writing fumbles the ball on Minfilia generally.

Would your OC/WoL fake an echo vision for a petty/funny/random reason?

LMAO yes. she wouldn't do it in an effort to fool anyone for real (especially since she's not a good enough actress to fool anyone who's actually seen her have real echo visions), but for petty/funny reasons, yes.

something like being in a friendly argument with Thancred and pretending to have a vision that totally definitely proves her right; you just have to trust her!!!

Does your OC like large gatherings to celebrate with? Did they end up inviting their entire department and extended family (and their co-workers and neighbors and...)

Yes! As far as Johnny is concerned, the more the merrier! He grew up in a very large family, so large celebrations have been the norm his entire life. When inviting people to things, he doesn't generally keep track of how many people he's already invited, causing the guest lists to blow up very quickly. (This got quite expensive at his wedding!)

The rainbow hyacinth corsage! Admittedly, a lot of my own bias for Lots Of Colours comes through with this one lol. If the rainbow corsage doesn't seem to fit with a glam's vibes, I have all the other hyacinth corsages so I'll try to pick one of those that works.

I also usually have a mod that makes the little beads glow so pretend that's happening lol.😅While it's mostly for aesthetics, I do have a headcanon that her tribe was really into jewellery and made glowing pieces as a particular tribal craft.

For Brialeth: her final test of becoming a Cleric of Lathander. She was very nervous, but passed easily. All her teachers were so proud of her, and it was the happiest she felt until her and Karlach's wedding day.

By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh…I adore them…”

There have been a lot on Cimorene’s end (everything that happened in patch 5.5 with Estinien was just a Vine Boom compilation of Cimorene getting hit again and again with ‘oh fuck he’s so sweet and so good and I love him so so so much oh gods’)

but I will say the Very First was honestly seeing him teasing Alphinaud back in the Dravanian Road Trip. like Ysayle scolded him for it but Cimorene clocked it as how he shows affection because it’s how she is with Alphinaud too and it made her so Soft.

For Estinien I think it was very similar timeframe. He has a very dry sense of humor and I think he said something during that road trip (probably about the moogles) that would come across as rude to most people and she laughed and it made him kinda go. oh.

Does your OC enjoy creating things? Are they particularly artistic? Or do they prefer to focus upon creating things with a practical use?

Lhei enjoys crafting theories, theorems and mathematical equations. That is a bit like written art, right? ^_^ past that, they have occasionally practiced drawing people. They don’t have a strong talent for it, (for they have not really nurtured it), but brings them a bit of joy in quiet moments.

But for purposes of this question, they heavily prefers creating things with a practical use. Be it a math theorem or a device to gauge crystal aetherochemistry, if it helps them further their goal of understanding the transformation of the crystals in wake of the Calamity.

10. Does your OC have a type? Have they ever been surprised by their feelings for someone who doesn't fit this?

Hmmmm, I think that X'vahl doesn't think that he has a type. I, however, think that he does and that type is "people who he makes a horrible first impression on" Seeing as M'likki threatened to kill him when they first met, he believed that Zhen wanted to throw him into the sea because he was playing music late into the night, and he both embarrassed himself in front of and annoyed Erenville when they first met... Maybe he just subconsciously enjoys a challenge.

Because he doesn't think he has a type though, I don't think he's ever been surprised that someone else didn't fit it. I think the only real surprise was that he didn't expect to develop feelings for Erenville. During the events of Endwalker, he was trying so hard to focus on the impending end of days that he didn't have a whole lot of time to really dwell on that "OH... Oh shit." moment he had shortly after they first met until after the dust had settled and then he was more surprised at just how much his feelings had seemed to develop while he wasn't fully paying attention. You know who did notice though? One of his best friends, Tataru and she was not one to stand back and watch him act like a kicked puppy at the mere mention of Erenville's name forever.

Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

Questions for fic writers

Outlines, YES. BIG YES. As a person who needs structure to live, basically, I cannot function in a longer fic project without some kind of outline. My outlines are just bullet lists of things that need to happen, and I flesh them out as much or as little as I need to. If I get stuck in the writing, I probably need more outline. The more a fic deals with canon events, also, the more outline I need because I'm kind of a stickler for keeping canon compliant (unless I'm changing it on purpose, in which case I want to be very clear on what I'm changing).

In addition, I do tend to keep a lot of notes, especially for a longfic. My Scrivener files get kind of ridiculous. It's a very structured kind of chaos. :') What can I say. It works for me!

Worksheets, generally no. Most of the ones I see just don't ask the kind of questions that I find helpful and important, which isn't surprising--they aren't writing my story! They don't know what things I need to know about my story. I don't find it helpful to rate a series of abstract traits for a character like they're sliders in a video game. I just don't conceptualize characters that way; I'd rather ask how they react to specific things in specific situations (which is why ask games can be fun and useful). I don't need to know how a character takes their tea if they aren't drinking tea in the story. (I do know this about Ariane and Urianger, as a matter of fact, because it comes up in fic!)

Instead, somewhere in my notes for a fic there's usually a running list of "Questions to answer," things that have come up either in outlining or in the writing itself where I'm unsure of my direction, and I'll sit down and work out the answers and keep them there for my own reference. Example from my current project:

How does your OC feel about other people with "posh" or "upper-class" accents? Do they feel a natural deference to them? Or a resentment? Or do they not even notice?

hm... it's complicated because i'm thinking about early MSQ, wherein Ehryu meets many people with posh accents [the Scions], but she's not familiar enough with the accents to label them as such. it's not that she doesn't notice, but she doesn't recognize.

(what she absolutely does recognize is when someone's manner is haughty, and is why her initial bewildered impression of the twins was mostly just "who are these sassy children???")

after she gets more familiar with recognizing accents, i wouldn't say she has a snap positive or negative reaction, but she certainly files the information away to use in figuring this person out.
