Ridley was just pulling her and Blake’s shared car into the Clark County Community College student lot when her best friend called. The fact that Blake was calling and not texting when she knew Ridley had class made her pause. She sighed to herself as the devil on her shoulder told her to ignore it but she slid her thumb across the screen and lifted the phone to her ear.

“Hey babes, I’m just walking into class…”

“I know.” Blake interrupted and the regret that laced her tone confirmed what Ridley’s gut had known before she even answered the call.

“Is she still at the bar?” Ridley asked before Blake could continue, already putting the car in reverse since the bar and motel were both in the same direction.

“ Chris brought her home but she’s in a bad way. I’m sorry, Rid…I’m still on the clock and I just got back…”

“No, no. I know. It’s not your fault. It’s okay, B, I got her.” She promised before adding a quick I love you as frustrated tears welled in her eyes. Without waiting for a response, she hung up and tossed the device into the passenger seat of the car. Slamming her hands on the steering wheel, she let out a primal scream as the tears finally began to slip down her face.

Ridley made it to the motel she had called home the majority of her life in under ten minutes. Just enough time to pull herself together before letting herself into room 17. “Mom?”

“Rebecca!” She called again when she didn’t get a response or immediately see the woman in the room. It was the middle of the afternoon but the room was pitch black, curtains drawn and light off. Ridley flipped the switch and this time her voice was filled with concern instead of anger.

“Mom!” Rebecca Hughes lay on the floor between the bed and the bathroom unmoving. The scent of vomit hit Ridley as she rushed to her mother’s side. Instinct and muscle memory took over as she turned Rebecca onto her side, using the heel of her hand to thump on the center of her mom’s back and dislodge the blockage in her throat. A sputtering breath indicated it had worked and Ridley slumped against the wall at the sound, her mother’s head still in her now vomit coated lap.

“Rid?” She asked, dazed, after she finished coughing, lifting her head just enough to look at her daughter. Tears immediately formed in her eyes and the apologies followed quickly. “I’m so sorry, baby, I’m such a fuck up. I’m so sorry.” The tears turned to hiccuped sobs and Ridley moved just enough to pull her mom up to sit rather than lay in her lap. This made Rebecca sob harder, clinging to her daughter tightly. With a soft sigh, Ridley returned the embrace, using her hand to gently smooth through her mother’s matching blonde hair.

“Shh, mom. It’s okay. I’m here. It’s okay. You’re okay. It’s all going to be okay” She repeated the mantra to her mother, stroking her hair, and wondering just how long she could keep those words ringing true.

The clip choices of Geralt in the woods is very complimentary with the soft lute instrumentation and Jaskier's voice. The vid really shows us how lonely it is being a witcher on the Path and the autumn vibes are so gentle, full of melancholy and yearning for warmer days. I also found it visually interesting how the vidder added a stonework frame around the video and showed some really cool Witcher art as the vid progressed. This vid is lovely glimpse of Geralt's life in Hexer and Jaskier's music is so great.

🤔 When I watch a fanvid like this and I'm not familiar with the song because it's in a language I don't speak, or I'm not very familiar with the TV show or film they're using, I ask myself the following questions:

What vibes am I getting from the tone and tempo of the music and how might it it relate to the visuals?

What kind of story can I take away from this even if I don't know the exact words or meaning behind the song? I may or may not look up the translation for curiosity's sake or to help bolster my understanding of what the vidder was trying to do. Or I might not look it up and just make my own story and interpretation.

What assumptions can I make about Hexer!Geralt based on what I know about Geralt from other canons and how do I apply it to the vid?

I let go of my massage office at the end of June. Reflecting back on what led me to this moment regarding my massage career has been an absolute trip. “Are you sure this is the right place?” Ridley questioned her best friend for the third time on the short walk up the driveway to the dilapidated house on the border of Clark County.

“Yes, Rid, relaaaaax.” Blake said as she nudged the blonde with her elbow to pass the joint she had just sparked, emphasizing her point that Ridley needed to calm down, so she did. Accepting the joint she inhaled deeply and by the time they reached the front door, she had forgotten all her worries. Behind the peeling paint on the front door, the party was in full swing. Music thumped at 125 bpm and you could feel the vibration in your chest. The strobe lights illuminated the haze from the smoke that was so thick you thought a fog machine was running. The pair grinned at each other before disappearing into the throng of party goers, hand in hand. Hours later each young woman was coated in a sheen of sweat from the dance floor as they pushed their way through the rest of the crowd to get to the keg in the kitchen. “Can I interest you lovely ladies in some…snacks?” A man no older than 21 or 22 with a cheshire grin called from the table next to where they were refilling their drinks. He waved his hand over the table where uppers, downers, and hallucinogens were on display in various jars and baggies. “Aren’t you worried someone is going to jack your shit?” Blake asked with a slight slur, taking the words right out of Ridley’s mouth. The smirk he wore turned dark as he lifted his shirt to expose not one but two guns tucked into his waistband. “We’re good!” Ridley squeaked, lifting her now full solo cup to him in cheers as she grabbed the brunette’s elbow and started to steer them both out of the kitchen and back into the heart of the party.

It all happened so fast. In a blink of an eye, sirens began to blare over the music. Red and blue lights danced with the strobe as bright white spotlights shone through the windows. Chaos erupted. People were yelling, cops and party goers alike. Fight or flight kicked in, groups and individuals scattered through every doorway and window to escape the law. Uniformed and UC cops had bodies on the ground which made it clear that this wasn’t a coincidence. It was a raid and Ridley was frozen. “Go!” She screamed over the crowd at Blake who was on the side of her closer to the door. Releasing her grasp on her friend and trying to shove her through the people making their getaway.

“Ride or die.” Blake said just loud enough for Ridley to hear before the two girls were torn apart, not by the crowd but by two officers.

it'd be fangedfolk, since they're canine (dogs) and are most attracted to the humans'…hm , simplicity and openness, i suppose you could say? and possibly treefolk (primates). i based my beastfolks' basic common grounds with irl animals, as canines are pack animals and dogs are more emotionally connected to us. as for primates, humans have evolutionary connections, similar social intelligence, and the shared abilities to solve problems and such.

that said, while fangedfolk are the most likely to have a human "companion", they are also most likely to have a poly pack with their human. whiskeredfolk (feline) are probably in the top-middle of that list, if we were to have a most-to-least likely ranking, with toothedfolk (rodents) due to their prey/nervous natures and seafolks (aquatic) on how dangerous/rare they are to communicate with, at the very bottom. the reason why i feel the whiskeredfolk being in the top-middle is that they can be fairly arrogant and being independent, but adores the complete attention their human can give them and how easily they are to manipulate.

that said, this is extremely generalized list, since the list is not really factoring in specific sub-groups under these categories, such as lions being social animals and are more likely to acquire a human lover, cheetahs more likely to need a service human pet to help with their anxieties, maned wolf being solitary type, etc. and other facets, like countries/areas, cultures, when/which eras, political affiliations, etc.

This is not a good situation to be trapped in. My roommate is actively contemplating unaliving and if they do I'm gonna be homeless, and if this is the situation, it would be with a dog, a cat, and no car to get to help. I don't know for sure that that's what's wrong but it's serious enough my car is having issues shifting gears. I'm already only earning $500/month down from $800/month at work because disability issues have been getting worse (but still no SSI). On $500/month total income it'll be awhile before I can repair a transmission.

Update: yes, it's the transmission. It's enough I'll just need to get a different older vehicle, considering the repairs would be like, twice the blue book value for my car. This is half of what I make in a year, and the USDA RDH my current housing is under might also end six months to a year and a half from now. That's enough warning to kind of apply for section 8, but that is ALSO scary because I'd feel even more trapped into living here when I do want to move to a safer state. Kansas is dangling by a gorram thread and despite protecting Roe in popular vote isn't where one wants to be if the Project 2025 shit hits the fan. I have more personal reasons too but... ugh.
