A weird question...
that’s all
So me and the colleague are sitting behind the information desks when a boy about ten walks up to us asking,
Boy: Do you work at the library?
The colleague: Yeah...(?)
Boy: Is it fun?
The colleague: Yeah.
*Me internally during the whole thing*: What else do you think we are doing here? Sitting behind these desks answering questions...if we not working here...

Library Terms for the Uninformed
Ever visit a library and get told you need to see someone at a different desk to get what you want done? At my branch it happens pretty often that people will walk in and go straight to the first desk they see (which happens to be the circulation desk) and start asking a bunch of questions or want to order items. To most people their knowledge of library areas seem to be pretty unknown, though as a worker it seems to be common sense.
Here are some common terms and their purpose:
Circulation Desk - the place a patron goes to check out items and pay fines. This includes picking up (and so checking out items they may have requested). In the outside world the word circulation means movement, so...
Reference Desk - where a patron goes to ask questions, express concern over a fine they disagree with, get directions, and it’s where you request items. In the outside world the definition of reference is a source of information.
AV - think about it. In the world outside the library, what does it stand for? Audio Visual, that’s correct. So, anything with a disc such as DVDs, CDs, and  audiobooks.
There may be more, but these seem to be the most misunderstood ones and the most obvious ones (at least to me).

Oh, what a chore 😉📚☕️ (book is "Tell Me a Tattoo Story" - ADORE it - by Alison McGee) 👉 but for real....do you know a single librarian who actually gets to read many books AT work besides at storytimes? I do all my reviewing of books at home because there is no time for such things when actually IN the library 😢 a friend told me her mentor told her to NEVER get caught reading behind the desk because it would jeopardize her job.....I think that's so so sad! I try to get some reading in but there's just so.much.to.do between my two buildings! #librarianproblems #librarian #teacher #books #bookstagram #ilovetoread #tattoo #alisonmcgee

I’ve been over at the nearest school to talk with the teachers and the headmasters about the library. That the library isn’t a school library but a public library. And what we can and cannot do for them. And it was like a great amount of them that didn’t know that we were a public library...and was surprised - like I mean truly suprised... one of the teachers even wondered how long we had been a public library and I just...like forever....😅 you know...

Enough is enough.
There was this little girl and her mum visiting the library yesterday. After some time in between the shelves the little girl emerges by herself and walks towards the library's out-checking machine. She calls back to her mother that, "its time to go home...we have enough books now" and then she begins to put down her books on the machine, quite determinately. She calls for a mum 2-3 times more before the mother joins her by the machine. Then the mum checks out the books and they leave.

After all this time? Always! No but really. This mailbox is still for the library's newspapers, so why are our patrons still stubbornly trying to mash their books inside of it. They(the books) more or less avalanched their way out of there when I opened the door. We don't get to them faster this way you know. Just learn to come back with them in time...

After many days of struggle I could at last , with some help from a colleague, finally make these books loanable. I mean so people can borrow them from the library where I work. The books will hopefully find their readers, especially when the movie comes out ✌️😊

Different ways of using the library
Four boys about 11 years old runs into the library, kinda loudly and shouting at each other and such. Both me and the colleague knows they're just there to hang out.
(They use the library to hang out in - especially when its too cold outside - sitting on the computers playing games and disturbing other patrons because they're really loud.)
After a while there's this boy that separates from the other boys to go look at the bookshelves.
One of his friends tells him: You are weird. You actually visit the library to borrow books.

Weeding at work…these books haven’t left their shelf in over five years… We had over a 1000 books to weed… and I think we are almost done… like we have about 30-40 more books to pick out…Its such a shame because some of the books are in really good condition… We usually sell the ones that are in good shape though … 😊

I don't even like all the genres
Kid: Have you read all the books in the library?
Me: No. Absolutely not. There are like over 25.000 books here and if I were about to, I wouldn't have time for anything else than reading until I'm dead...
Kid: Oh, okey.
*Me internally*: I shouldn't have talked about my impending death, should I!?? Crap.
