I’m so excited to read these two books this month 🥰. My only problem is deciding on which one I should start first 😁. To be honest I’m probably going to start The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin first. Can we just talk about the fact that the officer who shot Brown was shoved back in his car and then repeatedly punched in the face by the kid? Then during the struggle Brown reached for the officers gun at which point it was the kid or the officer who was going to lose their life. Is it sad? yeah. But was it necessary? I sure as hell think so. Also at no point was he SHOT IN THE BACK all of those bullets hit the front of his body. Oh also never did he put his hands up in a means of surrender. HANDS UP, DONT SHOOT is the call of a broken community that is bitter over a loss. Not a community that cares about facts.

I recently picked up Black girl, call home by Jasmine Mann and I’ve been peeking in it on an off today ☺️. I needed a little brake from Caste, while it is an excellent book, it is HEAVY, it’s very upsetting (to say the least) to read about all of the atrocities afflicted against African Americans and people of color. I’ve seen Black girl, call home on a few of my favorite Ig pages so I decided to pick it up 🥰. It is a collection of poetry written by the author, who is black and queer. I’ve already read some of it and I’m definitely intrigued 💛. Chapter 10.... Okay y’all, not gonna lie, I wasn’t feeling this book 🤫😬(IkIk). I was feeling bad about not loving this book because I know how many people really enjoyed this one 😩. That was until chapter 10! I literally just finished the chapter like 20 minutes ago. I wanted to get more from Chloe’s story and chapter 10 delivered. I have a close family member that suffers with chronic pain so I definitely felt a connection with Chloe’s story in that aspect. As I’m reading hood feminism I’m feeling so much anxiety y’all 🥴. Kendall has touched on everything from racial disparities in healthcare to colorism. It is just absolutely crazy that even the most basic needs in life won’t be afforded to some women of color because of the color of her skin.
