Cosa Sei Disposto a Persere, translates to "What are you willing to lose?"
This is possibly one of, if not the, most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. The emotion and sorrow, yet beautiful melancholic hope in this song is so powerful.
“I wanna feel your heart pressed against mine, so fucking hard I’m gonna break my chest. Entwine your ribs in mine, like strands of hair, like two lonely spines”

So, I know that people misrepresenting my subculture isn’t the biggest deal. But it really hurts to see Emo/scene completely dumbed down to this nothing caricature featuring machine gun Kelly, monster energy drinks, raver kandi Jewelry, and baggy pants. I’m not sure where anyone got the idea that those were Emo/ scene.
As someone who was a kid/ teen in the early to mid to late 2000s , that was part of the subculture, that went to the shows, read alternative press, was on MySpace and Xanga, I assure everyone that I know what I’m talking about.
I never drank Monster despite the company being a sponsor of the warped tour. It was too expensive to drink Monster; I drank Arizona green tea because it was 99¢ per can. I ate tons of specifically Jack in the Box tacos because they were 2 for 99¢. I also drank water out of a lot of questionable water fountains because it was free and it’s important to stay hydrated when you go to shows. I tried to keep my food budget to a minimum so that I could afford merch at the shows.
No one would have dared to consider mgk Emo back in the day. And there’s even tons of music that they played in Hollister at the time that is now being called Emo almost 20 years later. That was music for “preps” that wanted to be cool, like the hot guy from the OC that had decent taste in music and nerd culture but was kind of an antisocial dick. No one considered the hollister music Emo back then, and it shouldn’t be played at Emo nite.
I will admit that there was a tiny bit of overlap between rave and scene, but those were specific people in specific areas. It was mainly ravers that got into Breathe Carolina, Cash Cash, botdf, Millionaires, I Set My Friends on Fire, and Attack Attack. Those kids sometimes wore kandi, but it wasn’t as huge of a group of scene kids as people nowadays would lead you to believe.
We also weren’t wearing jewelry made of Monster can tabs. That’s literally made up by tiktok because I never saw anyone do that. Another thing made up by tiktok is baggy pants on emo/scene people. We wore the tightest pants that we could get our hands on. We started with flare leg jeans, but they were still as tight as possible where they were tight. Obviously, it progressed on to skinny jeans. Girls also wore leggings with micro mini skirts, or booty shorts. No self respecting Emo or scene kid would be caught dead in pants that weren’t skin tight.
I do think the one thing that people currently kind of get right is lumping Emo and scene together. I listened to tons of music and there were some bands that were considered more Emo (like from first to last and chiodos and Aiden) and ones that were considered more scene (like hellogoodbye and brokencyde and Breathe Carolina). I was definitely considered both Emo and scene, but also enjoyed a vast variety of other music, so I avoided labeling myself. I also listened to older Emo, or what people 10 years older than me would consider real Emo (Cap’n Jazz, Texas is the Reason, Rites of Spring, Mineral, etc). I listened to punk and pop punk, nu rave, post punk, dark wave, metal, metalcore, and all kinds of stuff.
Again, I know that this is all completely unimportant. The Emo/scene subculture was the best part of my teenage years, and I hate seeing something so dear to me be completely misrepresented. Feeling like I had somewhere I belonged and like there were other people who understood what I was going through, even though I was only experiencing this through music, was so important to my literal survival. I had a rough life and this one tiny thing was my solace, and I just want it to be left alone.
HIII UHM I RLLY WANNA LISTEN TO MORE EMO BANDS!! WHAT R SOME BANDS YOU RECOMMEND??? LIKE EMO BANDS BCMY FRIENDS MAKE FUN OF ME BC I HAVEN'T LISTENED TO A LOT OF EMO MUSIC BC IM NEWER TO THE SCENE SO I MOSTLY LISTEN TO MCR PTV PATD BVB LA DISPUTE AND YEAH THATS MOSTLY OT AND I LOSTEN TO A VERY SMALL PORTION OF SCENE BANDS LIKE THE MILLIONAIRES AND STUFF SO PLEASE RECOMMEND ME SOME EMO BANDSSS
this was gonna be a moss icon post but i couldnt find clips of my favorite moss icon song so here’s orchid :3
by no means is orchid a second choice, however. they are a screamo/emotional hardcore staple for a reason. the riffs are unmatched, the vocals are amazing, and that drummer goes fucking insane. quick appreciation for the bass work also, bass slowly gets less and less appreciated the heavier the genre is but you cant deny how impressive the bassist’s playing is.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE RECCOMEND SOME REAL EMO MUSIC THAT ISNT MCR OR PTV, PEOPLE SAYING THOSE ARENT EMO AND I DOMT WANNA BE SEEN AS A POSER, LIKE I GENNUINELY WANNA GET INTO EMO MUSIC BUT ITS SO HARD CUZ PEOPLE FUCKING GATEKEEP IT 😭😭😭
reminder to follow the skramz label that i run on instagram!!! we have some fun stuff coming up so if you’re into that stuff then by all means give it a follow
