Red velvet dress. Not to be confused with the cake. But just as yummy, yes?
I adore red velvet, and the deep crimson hue of this gown is no exception. Though it looks quite modern it's about 120 years old, dating from the 19th and 20th centuries.
You see, this dress had alterations. We know the original gown was from 1887, but in around 1902 the bodice and, likely, the skirt were updated to reflect the fashion of the times.
Silk velvet is just such a marvel, though. The way it absorbs light makes it hard to photograph, but when they get it right it's magical. Everything about this dress is just timeless. I especially love the contrasting taffeta on the hem!

The second ensemble Phryne wears in "Dead Air" (Season 2, Episode 11) consists of a fabulous dusty pink velvet coat worn over her white blouse and pants, and accessorized with a lovely pink cloche, white leather gloves, jeweled earrings, and maroon heels.
Her fabulous coat is made from a burnt out velvet with a red silk lining. The collar extends down in two matching ties, which Phryne wears one slung across her neck. The pockets and edges of the sleeves consist of ruffles alternating between the main velvet fabric and silk lining. Interestingly, this looks to be the same pattern as the ruffled polka dot coat Phryne wears in season 3, episode 5 - "Death and Hysteria".
Miss Fisher dons her textured velvet coat over her casual at-home outfit, consisting of her light sleeveless boatneck blouse (seen in 1x01, 1x10, 2x08, and earlier in this episode), and her classic white wide-leg silk faille pants. She compliments her look with green teardrop earrings, ringed with other gems near the end, maroon t-strap heels, and her silver art nouveau buckle worn in 1x01, 1x03, twice in 1x06, and earlier in this episode.
Her felt hat was custom made to accompany Phryne's dusty pink velvet coat. The trimming on the hat is seen in 1x07, but on a completely different straw hat base.

This is one of my all-time favorite garments on the face of the planet. There aren't many articles of clothing I come across and want to steal, wear, and treasure immediately, but this deep oxblood velvet jacket is 100% my aesthetic. I mean THE BACK OF THIS JACKET!
It's also a great example of fashion trends of the past... that dig into their past! The design of this jacket is very 18th century menswear, especially modeled after court fashion. But it's a woman's jacket. The jet beading is made to imitate the kind of silk embroidery so common in the Rococo. Court style persisted long after they were a la mode, too, so you see a real bleed over into the early to mid 19th century.
I just love everything about this jacket from top to bottom. It's absolute perfection. Of course, House of Worth--it dates to 1890, five years before Charles Frederick Worth's passing.

I’m fairly sure I’m thinking this because I’ve seen it somewhere before, but I think it’d be neat if Red Velvet got a chef themed costume
I don’t know, I feel like it’d fit
