Redraws of some of my favorite Conan/Shinichi expressions so far! I'll likely be making more posts like this cus this show is filled with really good expressions and poses that I really want to draw. Honestly this show needs more moments like the ones above, its such a good visual gag.

For those who don't know, I'm watching this show completely blind so please keep spoilers out of this post; as of posting this, I have just finished ep 289.

Gonna get into some of my current thoughts and critiques in the read more cus I don't really want to make a separate text post so feel free to avoid all of that if you don't want to see it and I hope you enjoyed the art :)

Disclaimer: These critiques should be taken lightly as they don't really impede my enjoyment as overall the show is great! I just like to share my thoughts and ramble.

286-288 is actually kind of a good summary for some of the things I dislike about the show, like sorry if people like that case but Shinichi and Yukiko being there unfortunately did not make it less meh for me.

I usually try to keep in mind that shows like this weren't intended for an american/english-speaking audience but man, New York is such a bad setting for this show. Even if you ignore the actual voice acting, its jarring how the americans just, stop speaking english. I really wanna know what the bts situation was to make them decide that, like sure 3 episodes is a lot, but its hard to believe these new yorkers, besides 2 cops and a taxi driver, are speaking Japanese.

Other thoughts go to the end with the murderer of the case and the disguised killer. Not sure how to word this exactly but it kind of bothers me how this is, I think, the first time we've gotten a murderer who's backstory isn't about some misfortune that happened to them that was caused by the victim, like nah, she was just evil, and then later Shinichi and Ran stop a serial killer from falling to their death, like what? Especially with these two scenes practically being back to back, I just don't get why they did that. Idk just left a bad taste in my mouth.

Anyways on a lighter note, loved seeing Ran's thoughts throughout the episode, especially at the end, like I love internal conflict for characters, and it works for Ran as well since falling for that 'you helped cause this' fear is pretty consistent with her.

And lastly I wanna share some thoughts I've had about the show cus I don't know where to put them. That being said, I really wish they had some episodes early on that explored more of the dynamics between characters and Shinichi's transition into Conan. Like the idea of a rich 16-17 year old being stuck as a 6-7 year old who now lives with his not girlfriend and has to go back to first grade is such a dramatic change, no way that situation wasn't hard to get used to. Unfortunately, I'm more than far enough into this show to know they aren't going to do anything like that. And besides very small moments that spawned headcanons for me, there isn't much going on relationship wise either. After episode 3, the dynamics between the characters was set and hasn't really changed too much, which is a little sad imo.

I'll stop rambling for now, apologies with how discoherent this is, translating my thoughts into words has never been my strong suit.

first up tina and susmita!!! this one is a scene from my gene death fic, mentioned in yesterday's post.

tina needs a best friend, especially because the friends in her group really aren't great most of the time. and ever since her introduction in season nine's UFO No You Didn't, susmita seems like the PERFECT person to fulfill that role! i love their friendship and feel like susmita should be a far more prominent character than she is. gene and louise have established best friends, AND TINA DOESNT PLEASE

(it's only a minute long and i'm mad about it) they're fucking hilarious and simply wonderful i hope they hang out like this again

not to mention that jimmy jr and jocelyn were the original ‼️ friends ‼️ before tammy came along! they were hanging out a whole season before that bitch's introduction. i like to think that even after both tammy and zeke moved to seymour's bay and became best friends with jocelyn and jimmy jr respectively, jocelyn and jimmy jr still hang out often. maybe even have some girly sleepovers together. definitely watching romcoms or hallmark movies during the holidays. and they DEFINITELY gossip and talk shit together (about tammy a lot too). she's like the sister he never had!!

2023 art review!

Even if this year wasn't the biggest on art, due to my physical condition (especially in last couple of months), it would still be nice to look back on what i did as an artist throughout it!

This is gonna be a fun ride...

So, let's dive straight into it, shall we?

January

2023 started on a high note, with me just having finished the King piece, and moving on to the next big thing, being an AvA3/5 double piece.

Sadly, during the process i messed up big time which led to me being unable to finish the piece the way i wanted to, rendering this project an eternal WIP. However, i still cherish the idea and do wish to either redraw, or complete it.

February

Doing 2 big projects one after another did end up affecting my overall drive, so i spent majority of that month just making sketches.

First one is a little redraw/redesign of my old character - Derek, whom i used for a roleplay with my friends like 3 or 4 years ago, and second one is Deach, a character from my fantasy setting.

Also, back then i joined a new fandom, people in which have reminded me of my admiration for SCP, after which me and my friends proceeded to make OCs for it. Was a fun time! (Also this access card was sold by me as a YCH, sadly i couldn't really find buyers, so yikes)

March

By march is slowly started recovering from january's disappointement and was a bit more productive already. One of my friends really helped with it too.

A musician friend of mine reached out to me, asking to develop a design for a villain character in the plot he was working on. After listening to the theme song i couldn't resist. This ended up being one of my favorite designs so far, and i adore its look in neon.

In the meantime, i kept working on my fantasy setting, refining more minor details of designs and stories, yet having to reserve only to making sketches as i was too busy with college and other projects. Characters you see on screen are Ian and Lanfor respectfully. One is a strong yet troubled mage and other is a great Emperor, and even better person.

April

I'd say april was one of the most productive months of this year, mostly because i managed to snatch some time for myself and my setting, which allowed me to complete two full pieces and achieve some extreme progress with my story.

This piece is an illustration to a scene i wrote for two of the characters, Lanfor and Emile, called "Night Visitor". This was a scene of a reunion of two old friends. A bittersweet, yet a lovely work. Love both the written one as well as the illustration.

This one was more of a... Proof of concept. Needed to test out the expresiveness of the design for one or a relatively new characters - Covlar. Was originally a simple sketch on paper, but i couldn't resist the urge of making it into a complete illustration. I then proceeded to make a few notes for this scene. Both want to write it properly and avoid it at all cost... Best to avoid it, for my own sanity.

May

May was a bit of trainwreck, because i got a brand new laptop, which took me quite some time to get used to and even more time to reassure myself that it is in fact alright for me to draw on this suspicioiusly thin piece of tech.

Ironically enough, the only vomplete piece i drew that month was drawn on my old laptop. This screenshot redraw was to made to honour the premiere of AvA6 ep.1. Sadly, i did it a bit late because fo technical issues, but i still had a ton of fun doing it.

June

June was... Chaotic, to say the least. Mostly because i finally got comfortable with the new laptop and could now draw a lot more freely due to it being a lot more compact than the original one, which worked almost like a PC. Besides, i got a ton more free time because semester finals ended up being a breeze.

Ended up making a ton sketches and doodles, that i didn't actually plan to finish, but still enjoyed a ton. Here are some of them

Then, ofc, the memes and the gand redesign, because AvA6 just had to break all of my portrayals. But, i mean, after AvM s3 my original designs did become a bit dated.

The biggest pride and saddest of failures was this picnic piece, however. I still plan on finishing it, but it is hard doing so, when i have changed quite a bit of my artstyle by now.

July

July was quite lazy. Semester ended and i spent that entire month out of the city. It was a great time, very peaceul indeed.

And again, that musician friend from before came into clutch, asking me to develop another design for his other project. And again a villain. He said he really liked how i draw bastard type of characters.

August

Well this is where fun began. End of summer break means i have just this much time to actually draw something i would never have time to draw normally.

For me to draw something to commemorate a new episode is almost like a tradition at this point. And, given how long it's been since i made anything that would require effort, no wonder i have chosen arguably the most complex piece to pull off energy-wise. Yet i did and now i simply adore this piece, even if it did render me disabled. (I crunched through all of this piece, pulling off 40+ hours of work in just 4 days, so naturaly it ended up worsening my condition by a lot)

Then i also proceeded to do all of these tiny side projects, like Victim ask, which i couldn't last long at due to my condition, and working on a design for my favourite streamer. (Which i cannot show as the work is not complete an it's best if i avoid spoilers)

September and October

These two months i spent being unable to draw at all via a doctor's advice. Arguably, these two were the hardest months for me to handle.

I assume you can imagine how hard it is to suddenly stop being able to do what you love, regardless of how much you wish to do it.

Novemer

*Nervous laughter* I... actually still wasn't allowed to use my hand, but that didn't stop me and i ended up making an entire series of sketches to celebrate AvA6 ep2.

I will admit, i still adore all of these sketches and each of them deserves to become a fully fledged piece in it's own right, but i really better keep them as they are. For my own safety.

December

As you way have expected, this month will stay without a single thing from me. It's not because i don't want to, but because i can't. And, given the circumstance, it better stay that way.

Afterword

I finally got my diagnosis and soon enough i will start active treatment for my condition. It would be a shame to make this worse than it already is with impulses like those that happened in november, so i am making this post as a way to draw a line for myself.

It is still kinda crazy to realize that there are quite a few people interested in what i make, so i will make sure to take my recovery as responcible as possible, and then come back to you with even more art in the upcoming year! Let's be positive about it.

2. The Alien Moondae on the left is from the storyboard. As I soon saw the storyboard, I felt overwhelming despair from the talent so I tried my best to replicate it through drawing (on the right)

3. This episode left an impression on me when I read the original, so I had a lot of trouble with Moondae's psychological portrayal. As with every important episode, each stage of writing and editing was engraved in my mind, so when I closed my eyes before going to bed, I would replay the manuscript in my head from the first cut. I would like to thank the PD and assistant writers once again… I also remember having many discussions with Jang Jin. The same goes for directing the title, how and to what extent Moondae's facial expressions are shown, how to reveal emotions in parts where facial expressions are not shown… etc… Personally, I put a lot of effort into the effects of the flashback cuts.

4. The gummy snack that Ahyeon brought is the same ones that he had in episode 16. It seems like he chose that one since Moondae liked those the most among the snacks shared so far

5. Just like Sejin’s last post, Jangjin writes down the entire text in the chat room, even the parts that aren’t used. Every time I received a confirmation, I was surprised by how realistic it was…

<Jangjin review of episodes 58-60 which is going to be a bit long an serious>

I feel like I've climbed a big mountain.. As always, but especially for this episode, I received a lot of help from Soheun in setting the tone. When working under limited time with lots of details, there were parts that I missed, but Soheun looked at them with the reader's eyes and caught them again. In the process, there were times when the interpretation was completely different and I had to redraw them or discuss one or two minor scenes for a long time. It must not have been easy for the animator to carefully look over the storyboard with a lot of work and limited time. It wasn't easy for me either, reading the original and adapting it, to shake off the first image that was stuck in my mind, understand the collaborator's interpretation, and find my rhythm again. That's how much we both thought this episode was important and wanted to convey the emotions the original gave us. I enjoyed this process a lot. I have often used the phrase ‘The beauty of collaboration’

The process of thinking about where to show as a mirror that reflects a good original work was truly the fun of collaboration. From the beginning, the episode was planned to be contained in 2.2 parts, and while the previous episode was finished in a quick pace, this time we utilized a lot of POV, flashbacks, narration, cuts, close-ups, etc. to capture Moondae's psychological state. For visual effects, we utilized lighting, shadows, effects, etc., and Soheon took extra care in lighting and flashback effects.

Let me introduce two parts that I discussed with So-Heon to maximize the visual effects…

1. Flashback scenes

The two flashback scenes in episode 59, the scene where he recalls the performances he has done and the meetings with fans, I wanted to give the feeling that everything was shattered like a dream at night with the sound of a fist being struck.

In the case of Moondae recalling his fans in the same episode, Soheun had the opinion that it would be nice to feel like all kinds of affection and support towards oneself are passing through one's hands like grains of sand or smoke. So, the images were corrected to give the overall impression of waving.

2. Expression of the 'Original Park Moondae'

This is also expressed in the original work, but the suspicion about Moondae, the original owner of the body, grows, and Park Moondae (Ryu Gunwoo) distrusts him, and the misunderstanding is raised again through the explanatory note. I don't know how you will feel, but as I continued to read that part, my sympathy for Moondae grew a lot. Even if he had originally planned to drop out, I wondered what school was like for Moondae, who had to leave school without being able to completely explain the unpleasant incident, and who had no adults who could stand by his side. While thinking about the same thing, I ultimately decided to direct with the idea that this is the kind of previous Moondae that Moondae currently has. It is also an image that I came up with while thinking about the development of the novel, so it will also bring various feelings to readers who read the novel.

I wanted to wake up. I think it's because I've been working with this mindset since the storyboard, but when Soheun's drawings and directing were added, I felt a bit touched. It was a scene that I had prepared and nervously for since the beginning of the webtoon, so I think I spent the next three weeks feeling anxious and nervous until the end….ㅠㅠ After we've overcome a big hurdle… We'll run to another big hurdle. LOL 4 weeks into FT 100 Years Quest Anime and I ain't updated SQUAT

I mean I do have something FT100yq related but it's current manga so it'd be spoilers 😅

Anyway! I'm REALLY enjoying the anime! Me and my bestie can finally watch FT together after bonding over the series back in 2021 😭 We having much fun :3

Art looks REALLY GOOD. I'm impressed even! They seem to have achieved the perfect balance between Satelight (2009), FT final season, and Utsuo Ueda's styles in what they have!

So, with this portion of FT, I'm tempted to draw Gene in the scenes I think she'd fit into. Cuz she joins FT around Fall of X792. So she'd technically be a character in this anime! If she were *sniffle* cannon...

But the thing is, I already drew it 🤣 back in 2021 when the anime was first announced lol

I could place her right next to Mira again on that bench in the first ss but for this second one I would have to either completely redraw it and move Touka or just have her off to the side like Elfman is.

Anyway! I watched the first ep in dub as well! It was pretty good! All the new voices were actually great. Most impressed with Elefseria's performance to be quite honest.

Levy was recast but new va holds up and does a great job herself. Lily was also recast but If I'm not mistaken, they just had Arcadios' va take over the role. Which I'm not complaining since it works.

Cherami carrying the dub like fricken always. Love her. Brina went back to Juvia so EASILY I love her! Colleen killing it like always. And Todd is great like always, though I'm waiting to hear his more action and dramatic scenes cuz that is definitely where he shines!

The rest of the voice acting cast are clearly much older and their voices show it. Still great performances from everyone but I wouldn't blame anyone if they retired after 15 years like Levy's va did.

Anywhhhooooooooooo I'm very happy to have my anime back!

I'm tired of seeing puppet Amity and emperor Luz everywhere, what's even so special about it? What's the appeal???

People see 2 seconds scenes without context and make it that episode's entire content 🤦

I don't know if ep 3 came out already but I'm not looking forward anyways.

…Angst. Angst and new designs which are probably the two most powerful motivators for The Owl House fandom. Why do you think S2A felt like it damn near cut the fandom down to its size?

This actually has to do with kind of fandom culture in general. The most visible part of a fandom is its artists. Their work is quick to consume, easily posted and reposted (with credit you'd hope but… sigh) and the easiest to take inspiration directly from the show for. Every week there'd be at least one screencap redraw that the fandom would do whenever a new episode came out. Honestly, the finale's big Lumity screencap redraw is really awkward looking to me out of context. It's not hard to see why these are so popular though. The reference is directly in front of you, it's a moment people are already talking about and you yourself probably liked the posing too so why not redraw it? It's a hell of a lot easier to do than come up with a bespoke story concept based off of each episode in a series.

That isn't to call art easy or the like, just that fanart is the backbone to a fandom for a reason, at least in my opinion. Twitter has a character count limit. Reading Fanfiction on Instagram blows. Tumblr is the closest to a place where longer form videos and stories can be posted and they still take MUCH longer to consume and share and without as much guaranteed return on effort spent. There's a reason the internet as a whole LOVES art from a commercial and consumer standpoint, even if they also keep trying to screw over artists because yaaaaay capitalism.

But screencap redraws aren't going to be everything. The more potential in the story, the more people will be able to come up with evocative concepts and stories and even make comics about the show. This was a BIG part of the fandom's peak between S1 and 2. Everyone had their own take on how Lumity would get together. Everyone had their own idea for how Amity might confront her parents. Amity in general was just a font of inspiration and the concepts with Luz weren't played out or felt contradictory to the more cynical character we got in S2 so angst with her about her mom, her world, etc. like that was still something everyone was tapping into, especially since it felt like the portal being destroyed was such a big deal.

I made a large Twitter thread the other day btw about how just shit the Portal Door is from a narrative perspective, first as a nitpick in S1 and then just a genuine problem in S2, because of it being gone, but that's a different blog.

But post S2A… What did you have? Camila's promise was never going to end satisfactorily, to the point where it goes from a moment of Luz being a good daughter to an almost inhuman monster towards her friends because it is handled so poorly. Amity is pretty much resolved outside of being happy to be Luz's girlfriend because she's already stood up to her parents, integrated into the rest of the cast and even already addressed the only piece of angst the show ever allows for her with her relationship and that's being an obsessive enough girlfriend. Sorry, I mean a good enough girlfriend. sigh Gus has had an episode but was overshadowed, Willow has had like a half dozen lines this half a season, King has been pretty much absent since his episode, Raeda was still mostly an Eda episode with literally every element of that episode just to shove Momma Eda down your throat…

It's not surprising that post S2A, the fandom has felt in general much quieter. Minus A: Huntlow and B: whenever they get a new design they can turn into Luz/Lumity angst. Everyone remember the teaser for the Collector's design that was done during a livestream and how that consumed the fandom for a little while because of possessed Luz ideas?

The puppet Amity and Belos Luz hype was effectively that. It brought even the casual artists back because they had a new, easily evocative design available to them that also had very obvious potential for angst. How many "I'M NOT LIKE HIM" pictures came out regardless of how weak any parallel between Luz and Belos is? Luz crying over a temporarily dead Amity is saddening, even if she's been little more than a puppet for the writers for a while now.

It's just how fandoms work. It's not even necessarily a bad thing. Dana has been VERY good at keeping the fandom alive during things like hiatuses. S1's hiatus is when the Betas were most popular because they dropped at a time when people were starting to wane from the show and now they had an entirely different angle to work from for anything Lumity they wanted to do alongside just good designs to draw. Most Lumity and Huntlow artists redo any piece that Dana does for the two ships. It's very effective for keeping a social media presence for your show honestly.

I won't even act like I'm above it. While I commissioned reference sheets for Rich Witch to make it easier to commission more artists for these characters, that wasn't the only reason. Rich Witch had a Reddit page (that I should clean up honestly) and its pinned thread includes the reference sheets and physical descriptions for the characters who don't have reference sheets. This is because I recognize that that makes fanart easier and that fanart is a lot easier to share than text blurbs. It is one of the ways to try and cultivate a following online nowadays or to help your fandom grow, at least in my opinion.

Can it be frustrating? Absolutely. I mean, Huntlow fanart has probably done way more damage to my interest in Hunter than anything else because it always emphasizes Hunter as nothing but a failure. Hell, it also emphasizes Willow's strength commonly and very little else about her character. Lumity has bored me for a long time in art because 90% of it is just cute fluff which isn't bad but it's not compelling. And I mocked both Belos Luz and Puppet Amity, despite the designs for them being good and the art being good, as shallow because narratively it means very little.

And the larger that disconnect becomes, the more frustrating a trend in the fandom is going to be. Plenty of people hate the Betas because they hate the edginess or the fact that a lot of people used them to start creating spicier material. There's not much anyone can do about that though. While a creator can try to promote a kinder fandom, fandoms are inherently too emotional and too large to really control outside of helping the show grow or find a new audience. It's just a part of that culture.

And frankly, I'm going to be bothered by the toxicity and inhumanity (guess what fandom will dox you for liking a ship between a bi girl and a straight guy?) of fandoms long before their art trends.

1. you know whats also bad about the red eyes? not only do they look awful on persephone's pink color, they're not even a unique feature? like we've seen hades' eyes go red, we've seen eros' eyes go red, and ares' eyes are ALWAYS red, so even this idea its her "unique queenly trait" doesnt even hold up?? because we've seen it on other characters before?like at least the blue glowing eyes looked unique and even gave her a possessed, otherworldly look, something with the red eyes just dont have.

3. I saw someone praise lore olympus art, specifically the ones where Apollo is playing his lyre and Daphne is covering her ears while her hair is split in two (yuck! Bad decision looks awful) so we can see Apollo, the one where she transforms into her hibernation state (weird perspective, chin and neck, I think, also what the hell was that supposed to be?) and the last one before cutting to Thanatos (which, I admit looks a little better that the other but I still got distracted Apollo's arm among other things).

Now, Rachel is a professional artist like 15-25 years older than me (I dunno her age) drawing one of the most liked webtoons.

I feel like I'm nitpicking or being too harsh or crazy because I think it is a little terrible and this person thinks it's amazing and I know art is subjective and all but like the difference of opinion is jarring. I am by no means a professional and my art leaves a lot to be desired and I guess I don't have incredibly high standards (or do I? I'm second guessing). Is it really that good?

Because I know that Smythe commits more than a few anatomy atrocities. I wanted to redraw a few panels two years ago and I noticed a few things that Don't Work Like That.

5. im honestly surprised LO hasnt ruined more mother figures at this point. maybe maia will be next and depicted as neglectful and hermes is only the way he is because hes acting out to be noticed by her, maybe dione will slut shame aphrodite, who knows, the possibilities are endless when its about ruining every mother figure to prop persephone and hera up and to avoid giving the characters actual personalities that isnt dependent on mommy/daddy issues.

6. I hate the clothing choice for Daphne in run for your life. It felt like she was drawn in a sexualized manner when she shouldn’t have been because she was running away from a r*pist. Like she almost had a nip slip, we almost got her ass, it was like Rachel was trying to fit her butt and chest in a lot of the frames like some video game with the token woman character. Like if a different dress was choosen or how she made Daphne tie the dress, I just feel like Rachel can’t draw outside of pinup sexy that well. Like sexy is fine for sexy scenes but running away from a r*pist is not sexy. (I probably sounded really lame, but the way Rachel presents the story in a feminist way but can only draw one way in not even the same style is annoying)

7. Things I think would have been better for the story instead of focusing so much on HXP

-Expanding on Minthe’s and Hades beginning of their relationship (he couldn’t of fallen for her since she didn’t laugh at him and when she yelled at him said it’s not your fault but you have the hat I think that would have added to his character more to see him more than a 40 year old who hits on barely legal)

-Leto’s kidnapping of Demeter. Both we/are close with Hera, and probably know or each other or may have been friends. Like I wanna know how Leto kidnapped her but also how are they interacting since they probably know each other and Demeter probably had Hera’s back when Hera ended their friendship.

-Ares return to Aphrodite. We don’t get to see much of her character but we know this is something she’s wanted, but they way it was handled was so flat, We assume Aphrodite told Ares that his gf slept with his father to save their son but we don’t actual read any words between the couple. And then they’re living together. I wanna see how they actually interact and stay together like their better moments. Like how well did he settle in, did they talk about how long he left for or is he mad like come on that’s something interesting but I feel like RS can’t write outside of HXP

-the deal with Echo. Why do people think Echo could possibly be Hera’s gf if she’s her assistant. Yeah they do dirty work together BUT I didn’t get a wiff or sexual tension or anything. Was it that she was there with the doctor? It just seems like Hera is that CEO trope who has the assistant always by her now.

-a little more of Pysche and Aphrodite friendship. Like Pysche says Aphrodite is lonely (and we can assume a part of that is Ares) but also because she “doesn’t have many friends” so why not a solo scene of just the two of them being actual friends. Like what did Aphrodite say when she brought back a purple nymph that was gonna help them with their work.

-Hermes not talking about Persephone. I feel like that 99% of what his character is and then just a little bit of himbo. 

-Maybe Thantos and Minthe started flirting/hooking up. We’re they friends first or flirts first? Was it after Hades and Minthe got into a fight or something else? What did Thantos like about Minthe and what does she like about him? Why did she stay with Hades with Thantos was there (it’s not like she wanted to be queen of the underworld) How did Thantoas and Thetis meet and become friends? Idk if I was seeing two guys and one of them actually liked my friend I might consider leaving Hades for him. But again hades did have the power to control everything in Minthe’s life (job, home, everything) I do like Daphne and Thantos But I feel like the transition could have been better if we knew more, but again RS can only focus on one thing and that’s HXP.

They got married behind the readers back, Demeter didn’t respond to the question as she actively avoided it and time was up, Apollo is somehow involved in the trial- THIS WHOLE THING IS A MESS AND IM TIRED OF HOPING THAT IT GETS BETTER. Four FKN years of this??? I’m done with this Webtoon even though I’m FKN stuck in it. I’m so FKN done.

9. 1. This first one is Dong’er from Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty. I always strive for photo-realism when I make a painting, and usually it turns out relatively believable. But this one... I have NO CLUE what I did differently, but it turned out so much more lifelike than anticipated. (Also, Dong’er is one of the best characters ever.)    --Original post

3. Wei Wuxian from the Untamed. (redraw of my fave scene) IDK, this one might be tied for first or second favorite. 4. Wei Wuxian wakes up painted like Mo Xanyue after being dead for 16 years. The pose itself is a redraw from ep 1-- WWX worrying over seeing Lan Zhan again after such a long time has passed. But I prefer book canon for his initial resurrection, in that his face is painted like a hanged ghost, rather than wearing that clunky mask.  --Original post

99% - GX Season 2 Opening: “I Fits I Sits” (WIP)

So, I’ve been at work the past three weeks since finishing my 5D’s Dub-Uncut Ep. 24 getting ready to finalize my Season 2 subs, which means it’s time to revisit 99%’s Season 2 opening video for translating! In my first go-around, while I did use the textless video to fully translate the credits and lyrics, I opted to use subtitles on Chronos’s placard here and the names that pop up for each character since I wasn’t all that versed in Photoshop and was limited with Sony Vegas.  Now, about (...however long ago I first subbed episode 53 how has it been that long) and quite a few animation fixes later, I thought my particular set of skills has expanded quite a bit--enough so to try and realize what I’d wanted to do back then but couldn’t by fully translating the OP, names included!

Here, you see some of that in action--after I took time to recreate the name boxes throughout the opening (text and a transparent box on a transparent background to overlay), I took each frame involving placard (after a still) or Chronos movement and Pharaoh’s name sliding in and edited it to both translate Chronos’s placard (which involved getting more familiar with Vanishing Point lol) and digitize out Pharaoh’s name box, which meant also redrawing Chronos’s uniform/hair/pants ruffles and Pharaoh’s tail accordingly on top of it.  I also used the frame as Chronos jumps in which he disappears for a second as backup to consistently edit the chair behind him in each frame.  Admittedly daunting since it was about 14 frames to edit, but as you see above, I think it came out really well! Gif #1 is the original while Gif #2 is my translation; as a bonus, Gif #3 is the translation with Pharaoh’s name covered up, since I thought it’d be neat to include.  Had 4Kids thought to use this in their OP, it might be how it’d look, lol.

And, being in Rome and all, once I wrapped up the V1 of this scene (used in 53-84, the one with gloating Chronos and annoyed Napoleon), I figured like a madman that I may as well take care of the V2 for later (used in 85-104, the one with dejected Chronos and a gloating Napoleon after Samejima comes back).  Having done most of the scene already, it just involved me taking the first few frames of dejected Chronos moving from the in-episode opening (since it wasn’t released textless; once Chronos starts to jump up, both versions use the same footage) and, because the in-episode opening is zoomed in a bit compared to the textless version I’m using, resizing them in Photoshop for easy matching with my previous edits, as I then put a bigger crossout on his placard, redrew Chronos’s hair to wipe out the credits, and copied Napoleon’s right eyebrow with some slight tweaks to cover up the credit on his left one (thanks for being so symmetrical).  I also took the frames from the IEOP with Pharaoh’s name sliding in/the extra-crossed-out placard flying and resized them to fit into the textless frames; that lets me get a textless version of this V2 OP ready to release for folks.  Gif #4 is how that looks, while Gif #5 shows my translation with an extra layer of marker crossout.😂 (poor Chronos)

Once the frames were edited, I just plopped everything into Sony Vegas to get everything moving; I touched up a few spots here/there, but overall, once I put in the frames, it looked pretty solid!

I added photos 6-9 to show an example of the coverup I did while the placard was in mid-air; in this frame, Pharaoh’s tail and Chronos’s hair were redrawn to cover up Pharaoh’s name, while the placard was blanked so I could put my translation on, then match the crossouts.  For the V2 crossout, I mostly matched the placement on the Japanese one, just tweaked a little for consistency with how I’d made it go just past the L on top and on the bottom.  For the frames after where Chronos is in view fully standing, I did redraw his ruffles and think I did a good enough job there; luckily, the name will be blocking much of the view of any drawing slipups I made, lol.

But yeah, so there’s this; I think this might’ve been the toughest one to do, but I’m going to work on the one with Chronos and his deck next.  That’ll be interesting, since it’ll involve perspective Vanishing Point work with the placard, and then in V2 dealing with Chronos as he moves and pouts, haha.  Stay tuned!

Hey guys! ;w; I went on a trip with my family for 4 weeks and I didn't had Internet.. so sry for my lack of posting ;-;

I love Game of Thrones so it's really a shame that this is my first GOT drawing... I watched the Season finale two days ago and I'm still not over it so I really got the desire to draw something Game of Thrones related! I can't wait for the next and last season ;__; My favorite character is Ser Jorah Mormont <3 I ship him with Dany since the beginning (and no I don't mind the age gap between these two) ;w; as a book reader I'm really happy that they changed his character a bit in the series <3 He's not forcing himself onto her and is not creepy at all. I  love the chemistry between Ian and Emilia they are perfect for these two and you can really see that on screen. I just had to redraw this scene from EP 5 (I think?)! ;;W;;W;;W I waited soo long for a reunion and I'm so happy that at least he's by her side again   I don't care about the season finale  I will ship this two for forever no matter what happened and what's going to happen in the future.. It's a shame that I still haven't figured out the ship name.. This was my first time drawing them so I'm sorry if the're still some mistakes c; I hope that you like my first GOT drawing !

1. just, some scenes redraws w/ guillermo when the light hits just right yknow? like the last image from the first ep where he's letting the sunlight pour over nandor's coffin, or in the theatre episode w/ all the dead vampires around him

2. that scene where he accidentlly points the wooden stakes into nandor's heart and they just look at each other

3. nandor, eyes closed as in slumber, leaning his back on guillermo and guillermo having his arms around him protectively but also w/ a stake in each hand so its like protective but also threatening for both everyone else and nandor himself (maybe a stake on one hand and a hairbrush on the other, bc i do love that he brushes his hair thats cute idk)
