In Princess Aster's world, bunnybirds live in contented isolation, keeping themselves detached from the world in order to practice magic. Nothing is ever wrong, and no one is ever angry...even as Aster's people seem to be slowly disappearing. When her father is next to vanish, Aster resolves to find and rescue the missing bunnybirds—even if it means journeying over the rim of the world itself!

My middle grade graphic novel is officially available for preorder! Bunnybirds is a story about trauma, friendship, and my experience with autistic masking. It was drawn entirely with Prismacolor colored pencils and Pandafly markers, with Photoshop applied for color enhancement and text.

Idk if you've answered thus but what are some of your favorite Odyssey passages?

i'm gonna go with just one because i feel it needs a little bit of explaining. like i can't imagine this is anyone else's favourite passage from the odyssey but it sure is mine!

in the fagles translation it's 5.295-304, when odysseus finally casts off from calypso's island:

The wind lifting his spirits high, royal Odysseus spread sail—gripping the tiller, seated astern— and now the master mariner steered his craft, sleep never closing his eyes, forever scanning the stars, the Pleiades and the Plowman late to set and the Great Bear that mankind also calls the Wagon: she wheels on her axis always fixed, watching the Hunter, and she alone is denied a plunge in the Ocean’s baths. Hers were the stars the lustrous goddess told him to keep hard to port as he cut across the sea.

one thing is that this is when we first see odysseus set sail for home, as well as him showing his undeniable competence again after having been reduced to calypso's helpless companion, but most of all i remember reading this part for the first time and being deeply struck by the timelessness of that description. like at that point i literally put the book down and went over to the window to scan the night skies. those are constellations i know! i see them all the time! the pleiades, boötes (aka "the guardian of the bear" in my native language), the big dipper/the plough, and orion. i know them! and the composer of this millennia-old story knew them! i'm looking at those same stars, and the names and stories i know them by are exclusively from that same ancient culture that created this story of odysseus. doesn't it make you feel insane!

there are odyssey passages with a lot more action and emotion but this is the one that makes it all feel interconnected to me.
