Hestercombe House - Somerset County - England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Hestercombe House is a historic country house in the parish of West Monkton in the Quantock Hills, near Taunton in Somerset, England. The house is a Grade II* listed building and the estate is Grade I listed on the English Heritage Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.
Originally built in the 16th century, the house was used as the headquarters of the British 8th Corps in the Second World War. Somerset County Council assumed ownership in 1951 and use the property as an administrative centre. Hestercombe House served as the Emergency Call Centre for the Somerset Area of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service until March 2012.
Hestercombe House is surrounded by gardens which have been restored to Gertrude Jekyll's original plans (1904–07) and have made it "one of the best Jekyll-Lutyens gardens open to the public on a regular basis", visited by approximately 70,000 people per year. The site also includes a 0.08 hectare (8,600 sq ft) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Somerset, notified in 2000. The site is used as a roost site by lesser horseshoe bats.
The house was enlarged and altered in the 18th century, but this work is no longer visible beneath the refronting and enlargement works carried out around 1875 for Edward Portman, 1st Viscount Portman, who had acquired it in 1873
The house today appears an assemblage of several architectural styles popular during the Victorian era. While the overall design and air could be described as Italianate, also present in the same entrance facade are examples of high Victorian Gothic, such as an Italianate seigneurial tower confused in design with a campanile tower. This tower complete with a glazed loggia is crowned by a French-style mansard roof with oversized chimneys masquerading as Renaissance ornament. The centrepiece of the same facade is a porte-cochère designed in a heavy neoclassical style.
The Gardens and grounds are open to the public.

How to Find a Quality cabinet refacing service
Cabinet refacing is certainly one of the best and most cost-effective means of enhancing the aesthetic appeal of your kitchen. This procedure involves the simple replacement of the cabinet front, which typically refers to the upper portion of the door and drawer fronts as well. In addition, a fresh coat of veneers (an extremely thin layer of extremely hard, dense wood) is also applied on top of the cabinet to give the cabinet a more updated and stylish look. If you want to know more about cabinet refacing in Modesto, this article can provide you with the basic information you need.
The first thing that you have to do if you want to avail of cabinet refacing service in Modesto is to contact  All About Kitchens - Modesto Kitchen Remodeler cabinet refacing service provider. There are several cabinet refacing service providers in the city, and it is therefore important that you pick one that is capable of meeting all your needs. After all, the job of refurbishing the existing door and drawers of your cabinet is a complicated one that requires the right tools and expertise. If you need custom-made cabinet doors, then these companies can also prepare these for you, along with the necessary installation materials.
The cabinet refacing service that you will hire will give you a completely clean work environment, which means that you can rest assured that your new kitchen equipment and furnishings will be installed properly. Most of these companies offer free consultations, so you can bring your appliances in for repair, instead of bringing them all in for cabinet refacing service. They can even take measurements and photographs of their existing kitchen set-up to provide to the cabinet refacing service in Modesto. This ensures that the refaced equipment will be a perfect fit, and that no space is left by removing or adding appliances.

If I have lived with the frequent switching continually, and I already have adaptations to mitigate the impairment, it is not an emergency and does not call for a hasty response.
I have also lived with a quirky sleep disorder that does strange things to how I wake. Some days I never fully wake. Some, I perpetually wake. And it is not a stretch to think that most days I may notice only that I frequently wake. Except, it does not feel like the transition to wakefulness.
It does not feel like I am coming out of sleep. I have only emergencies for reference, but it feels more like I am returning to front.
The only times I have known something odd was happening have been when something odd was happening in my external environment. I have noticed because there will instantly be someone, a friend or coworker or partner, talking excitedly about something that just happened. I will know I have not fainted because they will talk about what “I” did to respond to the emergency. I try to maintain a bluff, and I usually feign recovering from the shock to buy time to listen and to learn what just happened.
When it was not an emergency and there is no one to ask awkward questions, it is far more easily dismissed for nothing. The feeling of returning to front is the same, though.
--
There is no need to react in this moment, but I would find more comfort from an answer to why this is happening.
Why are we switching? Why so frequently?
What purpose is served that can outweigh the necessity of extensive adaptations? The adaptations are so extensive that they are a part of the definition others have for me. They are an integral element of my identity, so why?
--
I think I can identify refronting in conversations with friends. I will pay better attention in future.
--
What I feel, that I identify as refronting, is not that the cliche of “I was over there doing to something else and now I am over here. How did that happen?”
What I feel is that I have only just come into existence for the very first time, in that moment. There is no one memory to precede the moment. I have earlier memories of things that had to have preceded the moment, but I can only make educated guesses as to which was the latest memory (it is a little like guessing at what you last did before 2:32, yesterday afternoon.)

Create the Look You Love With Kitchen Cabinet Renovation
Tumblr media
One way to save money when doing a kitchen or bathroom cabinet renovation is to reface your existing cabinetry. Refacing cabinetry can be an extremely economical way to revitalize a room, and create your dream kitchen or bathroom of your dreams. There are many options when it comes to choosing your new cabinetry, and no two kitchens or bathrooms are the same. Depending on your needs and desires, your new cabinetry could be created from reclaimed wood and modern designs.
Cabinet refacing has become very popular over the last few years, due to the renewed interest in creating custom spaces, and creating customized looks for the home. Many people want to create unique spaces, with high-end appliances and fixtures, but don't have the budget to do so. Refacing your existing cabinets is an easy and affordable way to create the kitchen or bathroom of your dreams, without breaking the bank. You can create the look you love, without having to purchase new items. The price savings when you do the cabinet renovation yourself is much greater than purchasing new appliances or fixtures. The results will be the same, and you will create the space that you dreamed of.
Another advantage to refacing is that you can choose the styles and colors you want. You don't have to buy brand new cabinet doors, either. Old-fashioned wicker baskets and pantry drawers are perfect for creating the look you're going for. If you're tired of looking at the same old drawers and doors, try a different shade or a different material for your drawer fronts. With the right refacing, you can create the new look you want, for less money than if you were to buy new cabinets.
Many people are afraid that refacing will mar the look of their cabinetry, or make it appear to be outdated. This doesn't have to be the case. If you choose one of the great semi-custom finishes available, you'll get an attractive look that will remain pristine for years to come. Your new kitchen cabinets fit into place easily, and the look of your cabinet doors will be the way you want them to be.
There are several semi-custom finishes available for your kitchen renovation project. Semi-custom creates the illusion of creating the cabinetry from scratch. It gives the impression that the cabinet was an integral part of the design process all along, rather than something that was added later. This type of cabinetry is also the least expensive type of cabinetry and there are many great choices available.
Cabinet boxes that fit your style and budget will create an element of visual appeal that is not possible with unfinished cabinets. By choosing a wooden cabinet box, you will get the look and feel of quality cabinetry, while saving a reasonable amount of money on the cost of the kit. In addition, the wood will visually appeal over time, just like the rest of your kitchen renovation. Wood looks nicer with age and will continue to look nice for years to come.
Cabinet refronting is another option that is becoming popular with kitchen cabinet renovation. You can also create a unique cabinet box to replace a section of your existing box, without the expense of completely replacing the unit. This option allows you to have the cabinet you love while saving the overall cost of your kitchen remodel. If you are unsatisfied with the style of a piece of cabinetry, such as your wall cupboards, you can always have them refaced to fit your space better. You may find that this option is the right one for you, but you should also consider all of the options above to create the kitchen renovation that you want.

Woolton Manor This grade I listed house was built in 1704 and refronted by Robert Adam in 1774-80. Inside it has a number of ravishing interiors which are still intact. The listing entry talks about two early 18th century rooms with panelling, fluted pilasters and gilding as well as the late 18th century octagon room with rich plaster work and other decoration. The house has had quite a functional existence given its architectural credentials, serving as a hotel, school, convent, wedding venue and base for a local chapter of Freemasons – pretty much every use that a gracious space such as this can conceivably be put to. However, this active life seems to have come to an abrupt end when it was sold ten years ago. Since then, the house has been disused, although informal tours seem to have been available, increasingly to see what effect the disuse and abandonment have had. Late in 2017, we were contacted by a number of people concerned that the structural condition of the house was being jeopardised. The council have since been involved and this may result in repair works being carried out. However, a longer term solution is obviously required for this exceptional building. https://www.instagram.com/p/CDCJZkWlLA_/?igshid=ft0a1fw1rh0e

Dec 8 2017 : It’s been a year
This is the anniversary of moving in.  We have lived here a year and we are going to officially consider the house finished.... we have drawer pulls on the kitchen cabinets!!!!!!
For a year we have been using pieces of duct tape to open the drawers.  We have heard every possible joke about this at least twice.  We sold the Millbrae house to a very nice couple, and we have been n touch with them about various things.... rats in the roof, oven floors, how to prune the garden, you know important stuff like that.  They mentioned that they were going to refront the kitchen cabinets, so I immediately asked if we could have the drawer pulls if they were going to throw them away and they were happy to give them to us.
Why are these pulls so special.  That kitchen was built by Erik Antunez who loves working in metal.  He cut salmon out of copper sheet, and we were up until midnight the day before my 50th birthday party completing and fitting them.
We had to do some renovation and and make up some extra, but we got by with a little help from our friends, Dennis and Jay, and Quincy had them fitted for the anniversary
