I really hadn't expected these two to catch me in a brainrot chokehold......

fem! jeeves and wooster sketches!

my perhaps lonely take on a fem! jeeves and wooster is that bertie’s name would still be bertram. and i have my reasons!

-she’s a weirdo it makes sense to me that bertie has a non-traditional name

-it would give jeeves heartfailure. as a staunch supporter of traditionalism and a touch of internalised misogyny, bertie having a masculine name would upset her just as much as bertie’s masculine clothing and such, and it would be such an interesting development to see jeeves finally unlearn something and accept that perhaps a lady having a non-traditional name isn’t the end of the world

-the wooster mater and pater took bertie’s middle name from a race horse so. i don’t think they care too much about their child’s name

-the concept of aunt agatha finding out her first born niece is named Bertram really tickles me. i bet she turned into stone and had to be chiselled back out

-fun fact! my grandmother is named after her father. she goes by her middle name but all legal documents contain her masculine first name. it shocks a lot of people when they call out the name and a little old lady stands up and i think that’s an energy bertie would savour

-i just think it’s cool! bertie is quite non-traditional in a lot of aspects (class, marriage, letting his valet run his life etc) so a fem! bertie having a masculine name just makes me happy

it’s easy because reginald transfers simply to regina which captures jeeves’s energy in the same way. royal and formal and inimitable.

anyways. this will continue to be my headcanon forever. bertram wilberforce wooster is too funny of a name not to transfer across universes. long live the silly wee english lesbians!

long rambly post ahead! Unlike what I normally post but its my account so I can do what I want lol

(This probably isn't the most historical thing I’ve ever written but! I will fix as I work on it more lol)

the implications of Bertie's bachelorhood if he were a bachelorette fascinate me endlessly

I read this post and it gave me brain worms and I've been designing an au around it ever since

In this au it's a complete genderswap with all characters, uncle Alistair (aunt Agatha) becomes more old fashioned sexist to Bertie, not thinking she can take care of herself. (sorry Agatha stans)

Which like. She can't. But it's nothing to do with her being a woman.

Bertie keeps her core character traits, but by merely being a woman living alone in 1920s London, she inherently becomes more independent and rebellious.

She's sneakier about her escapades, still stealing hats off bobby's and the like, but tries to be subtle about it. Emphasis on tries, she's still a Wooster at her core, and thus a very

big klutz.

Bertie is just completely and unapologetically her/himself regardless of gender, for better or for worse.

If humble pie is being served, she will surely go back for seconds every time.

I can picture her leaning very hard into the roaring twenties flapper persona, but still being a homebody at heart. Big of heart, dumb of ass.

The biggest issue of course is the engagements, it’s a lot harder for a woman (particularly one whose family wants her to get married) to get out of engagements. THIS is where the fun new plots come in

Obviously there’s the classic setting up her fiances with other women, so they call it off and marry their true loves. And the occasional making herself seem unsuitable to be married. (though, this would usually backfire, that would make it seem like she needed to be married more, so she had a man to take care of her and make her settle down)

Instead of focusing on making it seem she herself is un-weddable, she (and by she I mean Jeeves) concocts byzantine schemes to paint her potential suitors in the worst light possible, or to make them seem negligible so one family or the other would call it off.

I’ve been working on one such story, I haven't ironed out all the details but it ends with Gussie pushing Bertie into a lake. Of course. (I may make  a comic abt it when done)

Jeeves’ character is fascinating too, I see her being the classic “quiet competent woman who gets shit done”. She would be less respected than m!jeeves, but still far more respected than the average maidservant of her time.

I can see her need for fashion clashing with the maidservant outfits of the time, part of me is tempted to keep her design the exact same and make her a big beautiful butch, but…I know that's probably not how it would go.

Jeeves would wear the classic Maidservant outfit of the time, though I can see her styling it subtly to suit her more.

Her control over Bertie’s wardrobe, while still being “God this bitch has no fashion”, also has an undercurrent of internalized sexism. She’s discomforted by the more risque (by those times) outfits Bertie enjoys wearing, like her flashy flapper dresses and the like.

Of course, she’s also uncomfortable by how attractive she finds her in said risque clothes. (drama!!)

And they end up compromising !!! and Jeeves has a lil arc in learning to accept the new fashion wave and embracing bodies and whatnot.

Their dynamic would essentially be the same, homoeroticism, Jeeves being morosexual, Bertie being endlessly impressed by her.

also because of the ridiculous british nicknames most the characters are referred to the same, they just have diff first names, here's a quick cheat sheet

Yuletide recs, for fandoms A-M! I have just barely gotten this in before author reveals, and clearly still have half the alphabet to get through. Ah, well. First off, my own gift!! Water Lens Benjamin January, gen, 2.4k, Teen. “The good widow couldn't dump you in the fast section of the river, apparently,” January said. “It had to be the mud.” “If she'd only panicked five minutes earlier,” Rose agreed with a sigh. “We were on the bridge then – although given the state of that particular river I wouldn't necessarily put money on it being that much cleaner.” All my all favorite story tropes are here: bathing together and playing with hair and the OT3 and Rose doing science and there’s even a mystery to solve in here too! It is wonderful and I love it and everyone should give the mystery author more kudos. And here are my other favorites: so come home 12 Dancing Princesses fairy tale, gen, 21.5k, G. A detective is called to a space station to solve the mystery of whether--and how--twelve astronauts are accessing the surface of a forbidden planet. A very well-written sci-fi murder mystery, with great worldbuilding and characters. Recruits American Gods, Mr Wednesday and Mad Sweeney, 4.2k, G. The Norse god of battle and a mad Irish king walk into a bar. This is not a joke, my son: except in a sense, it is. They are Old Gods, it’s the New World, and the game must be kept going. Really great backstory on the gods in WWI. The Locust And I Awoke and Found Me Here on the Cold Hill's Side - James Tiptree Jr., 2.2k, Mature. Letter of Fr. Francisco Nadal to Fr. Bartolomeo Strozzi, 1588. The original short story is about the horrifying effects on humanity of alien sexuality; this fic translates it into Imperial Spain and makes the different cultural setting really work. Because everyone needs some terror on Christmas! And on the seventh... Aubrey-Maturin Series - Patrick O'Brian, Jack/Stephen, 11k, G. This decision might be considered the luckiest, as standing near Jack meant that Stephen was not alone in his fall overboard. Or it might be considered the unluckiest, as standing near Jack meant that Stephen was foremost in the splinters' path, when the ranging shot abruptly found its range. Desert island fic with H/C, angst, kissing in the ocean, and new species of birds. AKA, everything good in fic. And for that riches where is my deserving? Benjamin January mysteries, Ben/Rose/Hannibal, 1.8k, Teen. If Ben was honest with himself, he suspected that one day Hannibal might simply vanish from their lives. He desperately hoped that this was not the day. Delicious Hannibal whump plus the OT3! What more could anyone want out of the tiny fandom of my heart? Family Gathering Books of the Raksura, Moon-focused, 2.8k, G. After some of Jade and Moon's first clutch are confirmed to be Royal Aeriat, Pearl wants the fledgelings brought to her bower. Ember thinks Moon should be there too. Really adorable baby-fic, with some lovely Pearl characterization. Home Books of the Raksura, Consolation gen, 4.1k, G. It turned out that living like people instead of monsters required all sorts of skills and tools. Cleaning required soap, and some inkling of how to apply it. Consolation’s flight, having been raised by monsters, not people, had none of the requisite skills. This is the post-canon fic about how Consolation learns to be a person that was my greatest wish for Christmas, and it's everything I could have hoped for. Mordre, She Wroot Canterbury Tales, Wife of Bath-focused, 8k, G. At least one pilgrim will not make it to Canterbury. Yes, you ABSOLUTELY DO need the Wife of Bath solving murders in your life. Did he ever tell you that story?” Absolutely wonderful backstory for Jerome. Suspect Gattaca, Anton Freeman-focused, 1.8k, G. Five things Anton thought upon seeing Vincent was a suspect for murder (and one thing he said). Lovely character study on a minor part of the movie, this feel so right. Attempt #534: The One With The Bees The Good Place, Chidi/Eleanor, 8k, Explicit. “Eleanor!” Chidi looks even more upset as he blurts out, “The universe doesn’t want us to have sex, okay?” Eleanor chokes. “I’m sorry, what?” In which Eleanor and Chidi repeatedly try – and fail – to have sex. Totally hilarious, and also hot. Care and Feeding of Your Janet The Good Place, Janet-focused, 1.2k, Teen. Please read this guide carefully before activating your Janet. So, so, so funny. Operation: Seduce Michael The Good Place, Michael/Everyone, 2.3k, Teen. If at first you don't succeed, send a different cockroach. Really hilarious fic about the plan to seduce Michael, with pitch-perfect character voices and humor just like the show's. so slip your hand inside of my glove The Handmaiden, Hideko/Sook-hee, 2.6k, Teen. Hideko lets Sook-hee teach her how to distinguish sapphire from spinel and obediently bites the gold Sook-hee brings back to her. Hideko and Sook-hee, after. A post-canon fic that is beautiful and just perfection. Who's Got Who The Hateful Eight, Chris Mannix/Marquis Warren, 6.7k, Explicit. Warren makes inventive use of Mannix's sheriff star. And, for that matter, inventive use of Mannix. He thinks that will be the end of it. You know, as much as love Hateful Eight, I never expected to begin shipping Mannix/Warren. What can I say but that this fandom has some damn good writers? And they know their porn; good lord this one is hot. As Ice in the Desert Historical RPF, Richard I "The Lionheart" of England/Saladin, 2.3k, Teen. Saladin visits Richard's sickbed with fruit, and a question in his eyes. Gorgeously written, really some of the most beautiful descriptions I've read in quite a while. Two people on the opposite sides of the Crusades in a moment of peace. all the nameless that keeps us rising despite IT, Stan/Richie/Beverly, 4k, Teen. When Stan went over to Richie’s house after dinner to tutor him for their math test tomorrow he thought he knew exactly what he was signing up for. Beautiful depiction of loss and love and a game of spin-the-bottle. Epilogue Jane Eyre, Jane-focused, 3.4k, Mature. Not everything, Jane learns early on, is real. Deeply creepy alternative interpretation of the canon. I love this possibility. How Else Would Sailing Ships Ever Have Navigated? Jeeves, Madeline Bassett/Honoria Glossop, 2.3k, G. “Do you think,” Madeline said to Honoria as the more impressive parts of nature gradually crept up upon them, “that all daffodils are the daughters of sunlight?” Absolutely adorable fic for some minor characters with a pitch-perfect tone for the canon. the worlds that spin beyond our atmosphere Jupiter Ascending, Jupiter/Caine, 7.8k, Teen. When Jupiter woke up, there was a small metal sphere on the pillow beside her. She blinked at it, because it certainly had not been there when she had gone to bed the night before. Then Aunt Nino began to stir and grumble as she too woke up and Jupiter snatched up the sphere, lobbing it hastily into her half-packed suitcase on her way to go and make the coffee. In which Jupiter is propositioned by a space travel agency (but fancier!) and introduces Caine to her family. Gorgeous worldbuilding and wonderful expansion of the canon. I love the descriptions of other planets in here. Damsel King Arthur (2017), Arthur/The Mage, 3k, Teen. In which there's a girl, a dragon, and a castle, and Arthur resolves not to let the truth get in the way of a good story. Totally hilarious and a great fit with the canon. Those parts, which maids keep unespy'd Kushiel's Legacy, Phedre/Joscelin, 1.9k, Explicit. There are few things Phedre has never done. There's one she's never done with Joscelin. Wonderful hot and sweet fic. Het anal, which is rare to see in fanfiction, but so very well-done here. Midwinter Queen The Lion in Winter, Henry/Eleanor, 1.6k, G. Christmas at Chinon, 1183. Conversation gambits keep the Christmas fires burning. Cynical and regretful and funny and heavy, this story does a better job of capturing the voice of the canon than almost any I've read. By Degrees Mansfield Park, Mary Crawford/Fanny Price, 16.6k, Mature. Her conscience had been disturbed, and she could no longer dislike Mary Crawford enough to be safe from her, if such a thing had ever been possible at all. Really excellent slow-burn for one of my favorite Austen ships, and the Fanny characterization is just ideal. Canada Gold Mean Girls, Regina George/Janis Ian, 3.9k, Teen. Regina joined the CIA to catch bad guys. Unfortunately, this time, that meant she had to work with Janis. Yeah, so it turns out that the thing that's been missing from my life is Mean Girls f/f rival spies future-fic. I am so, so glad that this story exists because it's amazing.

“Better When I’m Dancing”: Injured

This is for the @oqpromptparty. Some lovely people sent in specific prompts for both “Crown My Heart” and “Better When I’m Dancing.” I’ve answered one of the prompts. The “Crown My Heart” prompt will be rolled into a later chapter and the other two prompts for “Better When I’m Dancing” will be incorporated into a later chapter as well. 

Thank you to everyone who sent me a prompt specifically. You are all amazing! 

As for this prompt, this is another take on something that’s going to happen during Week 8. I hope you enjoy both versions! 

Special Requests for “Better When I’m Dancing”: A little dancing accident on Regina's side throws Regina and Robin's schedule off, especially when she doesn't tell him she's hurt at first

           “And one two three and one two three...Robin, a waltz isn’t that hard,” Regina said, stopping them as the music played on. “We’ve danced this before. What’s going on?”

           He pulled away, running a hand through his hair. “Sorry, sorry. I just need a moment.”

           She sighed, nodding. Robin had been distracted all day but unusually quiet, so she was trying to give him his space. A few minutes wouldn’t hurt their practice. “Take five. Go clear your head,” she told him.

           Robin didn’t even thank her, making a beeline for the door. She thought she heard him mutter that it would take longer than five minutes as he passed her and she frowned. Maybe a talk with her partner was in order if they wanted to get anything done today.

           “What’s up with Robin?” their PA asked, though her tone was ambiguous. She could’ve been asking out of concern or to get a sound bite from Regina.

           Knowing the show, she assumed it was the latter so Regina just shrugged. She then gave the woman a side-eyed look. “I’m going to continue rehearsing on my own, plan out the next steps. Excuse me.”

           “Of course,” the woman said, taken aback. She walked away and Regina started the music again. They couldn’t afford to miss any time because Robin was in a mood.

           Regina held her arms up in proper hold with an invisible partner. She counted herself in, working through the steps she had already choreographed before letting the music guide her to through the next steps. Closing her eyes, she got lost in the music and imagined that Robin was in fact there with her, dancing with her as he smiled lovingly at her.

           Because her eyes were closed, she didn’t know what had happened. All she knew was that she felt her leg turn in an unnatural direction before she went down, landing hard on the ballroom floor. She felt the wind get knocked out of her and struggled to catch her breath again, staring at the lights overhead.

           “Regina? Are you okay?” the PA asked, leaning over her. She frowned. “Do I need to get the medic?”

           Regina shook her head. “No, I just landed wrong. I just need to walk it off. Can you help me up before Robin gets back?”

           The PA nodded and helped Regina up. When Regina placed her weight on her right foot, pain shot from her ankle and went up her leg. She winced and knew it was noticeable as the PA grew concerned. “Are you sure you don’t want to me to get the medic?” she asked.

           “Yes,” Regina said, waving her off. She hopped away. “Just give me a few moments. Nothing too bad.”

           Yet each time she tried to put weight on that foot, pain kept shooting up her leg. She had definitely done something to her ankle, though she wasn’t too sure if it was just a strain or a sprain. The rational part of Regina’s brain told her she needed to put her leg up, ice the ankle and rest but she was pushing against a deadline. She could do that later.

           Robin returned, looking calmer though still appearing a bit out of sorts. She held her head high, praying her pain was evident. “Are you ready to continue?”

           “Yes,” he said curtly. He stepped up into hold. “Let’s go.”

           She took a deep breath, trying to favor her left foot as they danced. However, she landed on her right every so often and tried not to wince in pain. Robin didn’t seem to notice, but on the other hand, he still seemed so far away. She wondered where he went to as he spun her.

           Regina landed hard on her foot and cried out, crumpling to the floor. He caught her just before she also added a banged-up knee to her problems, cradling her closely. “Oh, God, Regina. Did I hurt you?” he asked.

           “She fell earlier,” the traitorous PA said. “Refused to let the medic look at her.”

           He frowned as he brushed some hair from her face. “Will you let me take a look at it?”

           “Sure, but I’m sure it’s nothing,” she insisted, wanting to get started again. “We have a deadline…”

           “Fuck the deadline, Regina. Your health and wellbeing is far more important than this conversation,” he said, taking off her shoe and rolling down her sock. He frowned as he saw her bruised and swollen ankle. “Fuck, Regina. How were you even dancing with this?”

           She shrugged. “I’ve danced through worse.”

           Robin’s frown deepened and he looked up at the PA. “Get the medic, please. I’ll make sure she doesn’t turn him away.”

           “I’m not a child!”

           “Well, right now, you’re not making reasonable choices,” he argued, glaring at her.

           Anger burned inside her, even surpassing her pain. She pushed his shoulder, trying to get him away from her. “I won’t be lectured by you.”

           “I’m not trying to lecture you, I’m trying to make sure you take care of yourself. I can’t lose you.”

           Her anger gave way to confusion as she frowned at him. “How would a swollen ankle cause you to lose me?”

           Robin didn’t answer as the medic arrived. He moved out of the way, letting the other man examine her ankle. Regina kept her focus on her partner, though, trying to figure out what was going on. There was a sadness to him and a worry that intrigued her. She knew something more had to be at play than her injury and prayed he would tell her what it was soon.

           The medic didn’t think Regina needed to go to the hospital and so he sent her to a clinic nearby she had been to before. Robin went with her, as did the camera crew. She tolerated them as they filmed a doctor at the clinic diagnosing her with a strain rather than a sprain. He prescribed some painkillers and told Regina to ice and elevate her ankle for the rest of the day. “I’d also take it easy tomorrow,” he advised.

           “Take it easy? We can’t take it…” Regina started to argue before Robin silenced her with a withering glare.

           “I’ll make sure she rests,” he promised the doctor. “We’ll take care of that ankle.”

           Once Regina was discharged, he carried her back out to his car. She watched as he turned to their camera crew. “I trust this is where you leave us. Regina needs her rest.”

           “Sure,” the PA said. “I have to let Isaac and the other producers know what’s going on. Someone will call to check on Regina tonight and offer other options if her ankle is still bothering her tomorrow.”

           “Thank you,” Robin replied, climbing into the car. He pulled out of the parking lot and turned to head toward her house.

           Regina sat in the front seat, arms crossed. “What does other options mean?” she groused.

           “You’re not the first dancer to get injured,” he told her. “When that happens, they usually ask a member of the troupe or an eliminated pro to step in and practice while the other dancer continues to choreograph.”

           That…didn’t sound too bad, actually. It would allow them not to lose too much time. She sighed as she lowered her arms. “I guess I could ask Ursula to dance with you. She’s close to my style.”

           She saw tension leave Robin’s shoulders and he nodded. “Thank you, Regina. You need to rest and we don’t want to chance anything.”

           “Once again, it’s just a sore ankle,” she reminded him. “It’s just a sprain.”

           “Just a sprain. Just like we thought Marian’s fatigue and aches were just pregnancy. Look what happened then,” he said, bitterness in his voice.

           Things started to clear up in Regina’s mind and she grew concerned for him. He was far too emotional to drive. “Pull over,” she ordered.

           “What?” he asked, startled.

           “Pull. Over. Now.” She motioned to an empty parking lot of a closed down store. It would give them some privacy.

           Robin did as she asked, parking the car. He blinked a few times at her. “What’s wrong?”

           “I was about to ask you the same thing,” she said. “Does today have any connections to Marian? You’re angry and just out of sorts today. And now that comment…What’s going on?”

           He sighed, rubbing his face. “You’re right. I’m sorry. It’s just…It’s the anniversary of Marian’s death. I’m always a bit…tense… today.”

           “That’s an understatement,” she replied before taking his hand. “I know this can be difficult. I’ve been there. The anniversary of Daniel’s death isn’t a picnic for me either. But maybe you shouldn’t be biting my head off?”

           “You’re right. I’m sorry, Regina.” He leaned over, kissing her cheek. “I guess my head just hasn’t been in a good space.”

           “Well, why don’t you take me home and then go home to spend time with Roland? I’m just going to sit in bed alternating having ice on my ankle and then not. Emma will be able to help me,” she said, resting her hand against his cheek.

           He nodded. “I think that sounds good. But if you need anything…”

           “I’ll call,” she said, crossing her heart with her fingers. “Promise.”

           Satisfied, Robin started the car again. “Then let’s get you home so you can rest and get better.”

           “Great. Drive, Jeeves,” she said, trying to mimic his accent.

           “You did not just call me that.” But he pulled out of the parking lot, turning back toward her house as Regina laughed.

Another review! Wooster Sauce By Jason Fedorchuk, Regina Fringe Reviewer Wooster Sauce, a presentation of two of P.G. Wodehouse's "Jeeves & Wooster" tales, adapted by John D. Huston (acting) and Kenneth W. Brown (directing) fully displays talent, skill, and a love of the source material from both of its adapters. Huston nimbly relays two of Wodehouse's tales, deftly switching between several distinctive characters (and dialects), almost always in rapid-fire conversation with each other. The pace is breezy, but he guides you along, in the first tale as narrated by Wooster; the latter, primarily as Jeeves, allowing for not just a brief glimpse into their world, but a good look at how the two see each other.
