I see so many fans with the mindset “It was Kara’s secret and Lena had no right to ask for it, Lena was an entitled b!tch”, except that not knowing a secret like that means that Lena had no say on a huge risk being associated with SG. They did it on Superman & Lois too, where Lana got mad because Clark hadn’t told her - except her teenage daughter was dating his (powered) teenage son. To me they have every right to be mad even because of that risk alone, even over and above the friendship piece.
And also the thing is-- Lena never asked for it (except for the one time she asked in the Reignforest solely to make a point, and did not expect an answer). It was entirely on Kara. There was no pressure on Kara except that which she made for herself through her own actions and morals. So I dunno how people read "Lena is entitled/selfish" out of that.
In my mind, it wasn't about Lena demanding to know, or even deserving to know. It was about Kara not acknowledging what she was truly keeping from Lena, and knowingly hurting her to maintain what they had together. She admitted that herself during the S5 opener, even if they seemed to forget as much by mid-season.
The mentality who think Lena was selfish in her reaction suggests that Lena isn't allowed to feel hurt/betrayed, which to me isn't fair. Not after the length of time spent building their friendship, not after Supergirl's judgement on Lena regarding the harun'el (and Kara's maintaining her friendship with Lena as Kara Danvers through all that), not after trying to use James to spy on Lena, and not after Lex spending his last breaths to laugh at Lena and taunt her with the truth.
I feel like a lot of people (on screen and off) are so attached to Kara that it limits their ability to empathize with the people she's hurt. We want so much to believe she's perfect, but for me the draw for this or any show is the characters, and particularly the characters' ability to make mistakes and be wrong and GROW from it.
In my opinion, to be perfect is to be boring.

made sense for Lena to hate Kara imo being angry means she cared. but all the other stuff didnt need to happen. Id have enjoyed Kara and Lena verbally sparring. Lena and Kara saving each other but Lena probably still saying words to just hurt (more like that 'u hate secrets, what's your real name') and the angst between them as Kara has to deal w/ the consequence of her mistakes. sg has always been good potential bad execution. This was a show that was better when they let characters drive story
Hahaha true! Good Potential, Bad Execution is the real theme of The CW Supergirl. :)
YES. Angst and disagreements are fine, they’ve built this friendship up over several years and the audience is plenty invested. But the entire season can’t be months of us scratching our heads like “Lena, WTF! Mind control is not okay!” and “Kara, do you have amnesia or something?!”
New catchy theme: More Reignforest high drama and high jinks, fewer weird plot pretzels!

i hope lena goes to the phantom zone at some point to try and rescue kara and she does find her but they both get trapped in the process and even though lena probably got there in time to save her from something now they have to wait until the superfriends gets them and they take this time to really talk about everything that's happened between them, especially in season 5 and they finally can put a good closure to that. so we get a new, better and healthier start for the last part of the season
It would actually be really easy. Lena arms herself with a locator beacon and a saber, then transports herself to the phantom zone.
She fights off the denizens of the phantom zone, searching for Kara meter by meter, until she finds Kara passed out in a cave not unlike the one where they found Sam in the reignforest.
Kara thinks she's hallucinating, until Lena drops to her knees at Kara's side and scoops her into a hug. "Don't you ever do that again."
Kara may look half dead, but she still has the presence of mind to pout. "I didn't even do anything this time," she mutters.
Lena activates her beacon, and holds Kara close.
"Beam us home, Scotty."

I always imagined Lena's mom was some sort of scientist that worked for Lionel or something, I imagined her quite similar to Lena so it's been interesting to know she seemingly was really into myths and folk tales and legends from Leviathan to Lena's book. That doesn't mean she wasn't also into science but right now I'm picturing a different kind of person.
I guess here's where it comes the whole nature vs nurture thing because we don't know Lena's bio mom but now that I think about it Lena is actually very similar to Lillian. Not only because they're scientists but they handle themselves really similarly and even though they have different morals on many things they are a lot alike in many others.
I'm not sure yet if Lena's 6b storyline will involve her bio mom even though it seems likely but if it happens I'm incredibly interested in seeing this contrast. And also seeing their dynamic since Lena basically just knew this woman for 4 years when she was a baby. I find it hard to believe that they would be the best mother/daughter duo just after seconds of seeing each other again.
But then again that happened with Kara and both her parents and the same time there was zero development there so I guess I shouldn't get my hopes up that they would do that storyline justice.
Same here! We may be disappointed in how it’s executed (what’s new) but the potential is there based on the new details we’re learning about Lena’s mom, as you say very well above.
(Remember in S3 when Lena was like don’t say magic (derogatory) before their Reignforest adventure ... maybe that was more of Lilian’s influence coming through.)
I feel like the slow swerve towards her birth mom should be leading somewhere, and especially now that Lena has cut ties with LuthorCorp and Lex ... seems like some nice timing with now having to figure out who she is outside the Luthor orbit.

First of all what in the hell was the video that Melissa posted, im literally dying here and second, as far as i understood this video was recorded when they were filming season 3 right? 2017/2018
Yes! Cast members alluded to its existence, specifically Katie-Chyler-Melissa-Odette-Krys having a blast in the Reignforest between takes - and someone asked Melissa at a con last year when she was releasing it. She was like, I’m working on it! Lmao. Bless her. Totally worth the wait. :D
P.S. Praying for a gif of Chyler’s gyrations at the beginning of the vid. I stan!

Do you think its right to say Lena would kill for Kara and Kara would die for Lena?
I think those are true statements, but they aren’t as dramatic as they sound in a bigger context. ;)
It’s established on the show that when Lena thinks the greater good is at stake, she’s willing to kill someone to preserve it. She had to kill Jack to save Kara; but she was also willing to shoot Morgan Edge when she found out he knowingly endangered the health of children. No trial, no jury.
(She and Alex are quite similar in that way. Lena was also willing to die herself to give Supergirl the chance to prevent water supply contamination. )
For Kara, I think staring death in the face all the time is part of the superhero deal anyway, but for her specifically, there are situations in which she’s shown the willingness to risk her own life to save others. In the reignforest, a de-powered Kara did tell Reign to strangle her instead of Lena, but she also put herself in (potentially fatal) harm’s way to protect others when she was injured and de-powered in S1.
In other words, those statements are true on their face, but they don’t tell the whole story and aren’t necessarily unique to them or their relationship.

Wait, did Alex EVER had a rocky relationship with Lena? Because in season 2 she was actually the only one of the superfriends (aside from Kara) who never really expressed distrust about Lena, she was neutral at the most. And in S3 she was actually really understanding of the whole Sam secret and she even trusted Lena about the kids thing. And she was like Lena's biggest supporter in S4. The only "rocky moment" that I remember was the kryptonite rift in reignforest
And even in the rainforest, it read to me more like Alex simply being more "I'm with Kara" than "against Lena".

Sorry to butt in but Lena definitely knows about Brainy, not only because she made the imagine inducer but also their first interaction was him using his powers to help them get into the reignforest, he has a spaceship from the future that lena controlled, he said in front of her that he was an organic something and asked if that's how humans felt when he cried about Kara. He's used his powers in front of her. To be honest, they met at the DEO and I don't think he ever tried to hide it.
Since I'm definitely not going to rewatch enough of the last season to find out for myself, I totally believe you guys that Lena knows. Like, I always assumed she did anyway, but I just wasn't sure if the show had actually done the work to demonstrate that she does.
Do you think Lena is going to throw Brainy in Kara's face? Like, "what, was I so awful to your alien friend Brainy that you couldn't bring yourself to tell me the truth?"

Great post. There isnt one solid reason she hasnt told Lena. Its a mix of many things and i think people tend to oversimplify it. Kara definitively wanted to protect Lena. But she also doesnt want to hurt her. And Kara is protecting herself. Hurting Lena hurts Kara too. Because its their friendship. And i imagine Kara doesnt want to add Lena to her long list of losses. Lena has trust issues but lets not forget Kara has abandonment issues
A great and fair summary. Thank you! (Also big thanks to @morallyconflictedcharacters for the post. :)
I agree with you. Kara’s reasons are complicated and evolved over time, and have been articulated by her at different points in the story. As was her recognition that she clearly had to tell Lena - that it was the right thing to do  - and soon.
On your last point, this is one big reason I wish we could get a do over on the Alura/Argo City storyline. You’re right about Kara’s abandonment issues, which are rooted in the choices her parents made. IMO the Alura storyline’s primary focus should absolutely have been about that, and revisiting all the pain and anger we saw from Kara in S1.
I would love for an eventual slow road to reconciliation to include a line like, “Because I was afraid to lose you!” with some reference to Kara’s own history. I could easily see this being a part of the emotional puzzle for her.
(IMO the discourse about what she “owes” Lena or hiding her identity because Lena is allegedly a xenophobe are seemingly driven by character preferences more than anything else; not something supported by the story as it’s being told. Kara herself has never said anything like that, nor acted like either of those reasons motivates her; the one time she came close - the Luthor line in the reignforest - she was also eventually remorseful about it.)

The conversation at the elevator yes, but also the fight on Juru. Some juicy flashback to feed the angst.
Me: .... Juru? Juru, juru, juru-- oh! The reignforest!
Yes, holy fuck, all of that. Reconciling Kara “always supports Lena” Danvers with “not a great question for a Luthor to ask someone in my family” Supergirl is going to be a hard shift for Lena.
