Well, he didn’t mean to call him that, it just sort of came out. Imagine his embarrassment when it seems he spoke his thoughts out loud and with the response it flustered him more. Come on Asgore, you’re not a kid anymore. 

“Well I- uh suppose so.” He chuckled to try and distract himself from how flustered he was. Gosh, he hadn’t felt this way in a very long time but somehow Rudy always brought this side out of him. He cleared his throat to keep some dignity as his face went pink, “would you want me to call you something else or-?”

Dec. 13th

I visited him again today, like normal. He was doing better yesterday, but… he coughed and sneezed a lot today… he even had trouble breathing once. He took the most medicine I’d ever seen while I was there.

He still insisted he was fine, he’s strong… he’s my dad and I know he can pull through this. He’s always pulled through anything and everything. There wasn’t a moment while I was there that he didn’t make me laugh or smile…

I just wish he’d get better quicker. I wish he’d get better at all. The house is so quiet and tense without him around. He isn’t here to play games with me or crack a joke when mom gets a little too serious… it’s almost like when D— - -

Is there anyone you miss most from your Hometown, other than family?

They were sort of my second family growing up. I had a really close bond with Dess growing up, and... it was hard for all of them when she passed. Noelle took it the hardest, having lost her sister... and her Mom and Dad struggled a lot to keep together. I still email Rudy sometimes. I even sent him a Christmas card.

Other than them, I kinda miss Miss Alphys. She made high school a little more interesting, despite her timidness. And there's Papyrus, this skeleton that lives next to the grocery store. He always cracked me up!

Asgore cupped the side of Rudy's cheek. How long had it been since he'd seen Rudolph say something like that? And he'd almost never seen him so... downcast. "Rudy," His eyes were filled with intent, and seriousness, but did not lack his warmth. "You have done all you could do. I... I know just how you feel. But you've shown them, given them, taught them, loved them.

And every ounce of love you've shown, and all the love you have left to give, they'll see that, and they'll pass down that love to their own, too. You don't have to worry about a thing.

A soft frown plastered across his face as he murmured out softly, “Must’ve been a while since I last ate something. I’ve been mostly getting takeouts.” He seemed a bit awkward, “My apologies if I’m worrying you right now.”

A small Zoro and Chopper drabble because they are precious to me. 🫶

One night aboard the Merry, Chopper has a nightmare that really shakes him up. Before he can process what he’s doing, he’s made his way out onto the deck to see Zoro sleeping in the crow’s nest. He climbs up and settles next to Zoro, unable to stop the sniffles and quiet sobs that escape him.

“Can’t sleep?”

Chopper flinches in surprise, “Ah! Zoro, I thought you were asleep!”

Zoro just shrugs. “Light sleeper. Wanna tell me what you’re doing in my space?”

Chopper looks down and shakes his head. Zoro can’t know he was this shaken by a nightmare, he’ll think he’s weak!

“Let me guess then. Bad dream?”

Chopper blinks in surprise. Man, Zoro was good. Chopper sighs and traces circles in the wooden floor.

“Yeah. But… it’s nothing, really! A little nightmare isn’t enough to—”

“Chopper.”

He looks up at Zoro. His look is stern, but not angry. Chopper even detects a hint of concern. Then, before he knows it, tears are streaming down the reindeer’s face and he’s rambling to Zoro between hiccups and sobs.

“It, it was so scary! I was c-captured by evil pirates, and, and then you were there, and you were gonna save me, but they got you too! And they- and they made me watch as they, as they- WAAAAAH!”

Zoro panics a little at the sudden outburst. He wasn’t exactly known for being the consoling type, but he needed Chopper to be quieter, and he needed the reindeer to tell him what happened so he’d know what to say.

“Woah, Chopper, shh- hey, calm down- what did they do?”

Chopper continues to cry for a while longer before his sobs quiet down and he’s able to softly mutter an answer. His trembling voice is almost a whisper.

“They… killed you,” he manages before he puts his face in his hooves and continues to cry.

Zoro blinks in surprise. He didn’t realize a dream like that would scare the doctor so badly. It must’ve felt pretty real if Chopper felt the need to check on Zoro for himself. The swordsman turns Chopper to face him and gently pries his hooves from his eyes so Chopper is looking directly at him. He tries for a confident smile to reassure the doctor.

“No one can kill me that easily. I’m not going anywhere, okay?”

Chopper sniffles and nods.

Zoro thinks for a moment. “What could’ve gotten you so worried about me, huh?”

“I just…,” Chopper hesitates and swallows before continuing, “don’t know what I would do without you, Zoro.”

Zoro’s heart bursts. He feels a fierce wave of protectiveness wash through him. The swordsman smiles warmly and ruffles the doctor’s head. “Me too, Chopper.”

Chopper gasps excitedly and finally smiles before jumping to hug Zoro’s neck. Zoro staggers but grabs hold of him to stabilize himself. Zoro’s smile widens as Chopper nuzzles into his shoulder. This kid.

They stay like that for a bit until Zoro remembers that Chopper really should be in bed right now.

“Chopper?” He calls softly. No answer. He gently pries Chopper from his neck and holds him at arm’s length. The poor reindeer was absolutely conked out. Zoro huffs fondly and settles Chopper into his lap before allowing his eyes to close.

Kind of a vent piece [I've been really physically & mentally ill on and off since November], but it also functions as a scene for my OP S/I; this takes place during the brief period of time after the Al.abasta Incident when Silva was with the S.traw Hats.

Needless to say, Chopper becomes a very dear friend of Bun's. 💕
