Lucien's First Take: Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty - Official Trailer
It’s been a long and bumpy road for CD Projekt Red and the community of fans of the game (small as it was, for a time) with their latest project, Cyberpunk 2077.  I am one of the few people that actually has liked the game since it came out, minus the bugs, of course.  However, with patches that got better.  I got a PS5 and got the free current-gen upgrade, which made the game EXACTLY what I…

Idol Worship
Pairings: Cyberpunk 2077 Men x Fem!Idol!Reader
Context: You’re a hyper feminine idol with a cutesy, girlie concept. As a Night City celebrity, these are some headcanons of your life with the men.
A/N: Y/S/N = Your Stage Name
Tumblr media
Jackie Welles: You and Jackie had been dating for a year before your rise to fame, and have been going strong ever since. He supported your music dreams from the start, and you’ll always see him as your first fan, as well as your biggest fan (both literally and figuratively). When you started booking bigger venues and had appearances on TV shows, Jackie became worried that you’d leave him for some Hollywood slick, since that’s what everyone always did when they become famous, but you reassured him that’d you’d never leave him since he was the only one for you.
At the beginning of your stardom, you had decided to keep your romantic life personal as to keep Jackie away from all of the fame but that proved to be difficult when you had a known stalker on your tail. This stalker followed you everywhere and caused you countless restless nights. The situation had gotten so bad that he broke into your hotel one night, but thankfully you had stayed out that night and weren’t inside when he broke in. After that incident, Jackie didn’t feel safe to have you out on tours by yourself.
That’s when you both decided that it would be best to publicize your relationship-- one, to keep weirdos at bay, and two, so that Jackie could be with you all of the time unapologetically.
Thankfully, the fans took to Jackie pretty well-- with the exception of your pervy fans, but you weren’t too concerned with them anymore since Jackie became an unofficial official bodyguard. There wasn’t a single picture of you where Jackie wasn’t also in it, either intentionally or unintentionally.
Concerts, TV showings, photoshoots, Jackie was always there next to you. You were able to convince your manager to hire Jackie as full-time secretary since he was able to prove himself much more useful than the lumberjacks that couldn’t stop a fly.
Tumblr media
Johnny Silverhand: You had already made a name for yourself when you met Johnny, and your first meeting was at an elite club that’s only known to a select few. In the dark night club, Johnny’s body was pressed flush against yours and all you both could do was stare into each other’s eyes and sway to the pounding bass of the music. The chemistry was wild, and Johnny was hooked, but you left before the night was over, leaving him high and dry.
The next time he would see you would be on electric boards in the city, performing your latest song. That’s when he recognized you-- those eyes, those god forsaken eyes that reeled him in.
With a call to his manager and a few pulling of strings, Johnny was able to bring you into his home-studio on the pretenses of having you songwrite a song he’s been working on. Needless to say, that would be one of many “studio sessions”.
Within a month, Johnny found himself asking you to be his girlfriend, and you agreed. Johnny being Johnny, immediately wanted to publicize the relationship. To say the public was shocked was an understatement. A crazy metalhead dating the cutesy pop star? Do we need to alert the feds?
But when the paparazzi photos of the two of you spending quality time together were leaked, everything was finally clicking into place.
At first, you didn’t want your relationship to overshadow your career so you would regularly decline any commentary or showings that had anything to do with Johnny, but after a few deep, honest sit downs with him, you both agreed that you would be able to make this business-pleasure relationship work.
After a few months of dating, not only were you able to show up to public functions together but you both featured on songs together. Your bird-like voice and his scruffy voice complimented each other remarkably well, not to mention the mixing of such polar genres. The two of you would release some of your most popular music together.
A few examples would be “Strawberry Kisses - Johnny Silverhand feat. Y/S/N”, and “Make Daddy Proud - Y/S/N feat. Johnny Silverhand”.
Johnny’s influence would definitely inspire you to expand in both your concept and your music. You would be his muse, and he would be yours.
Tumblr media
Viktor Vektor: As part of the industry, it’s common for idols to get cyberware and plastic surgery done to conform to societal beauty standards-- as the motto goes, “in Night City, looks are everything.”
In the beginning of your career, your manager needed you to get some cyberware done but knew you couldn’t pay for the high prices that legitimate surgeons required, so he introduced you to a man with less-than-honest credentials.
That’s where you met him. Viktor Vektor. A miracle worker based out of a dingy basement and faulty fluorescent lights.
He treated you like a princess and you were in love right then and there. His gentle touches on your face and most intimate parts made you swoon.
Your manager had sent Viktor a list of procedures he wanted, but Viktor only consulted with you on what you wanted, no more and no less.
After the first consultation, you were hooked, and the feeling was mutual. You would check in at least monthly, and would find any reason to give him a call just to hear his voice.
By the time he had finally asked you out, you both were so used to sneaking around that it was silently agreed upon to not publicize this relationship. Maybe it was taboo, with the age gap and career choice, but it was love. And to you both, that was all that mattered.
And thanks to Viktor’s connections in the industry, you were quick to become the face of high fashion and runways. Always equipped with the latest cyberware, your tech upgrades were trendsetters, with influencers and celebrities alike flocking to imitate your work. But your tech was always one-of-a-kind, that’s what Viktor vowed to do from the moment he met you. Every creation he creates for you is only for you. It’s custom-made for your body and mind, no one else’s.
Your looks had become so famous that there was a genre of cyberware named after you: Roseware, an homage to your pink and aesthetic gadgets.
a/n: i hope you enjoyed! if you did, please consider reblogging since it helps my account! :) DON'T BE A GHOST READER!!!! i would love to hear your thoughts and opinions, and comments are what keep writers going <3 i’m open to requests again (specifically for cyberpunk), please read my the posts on my pinned before requesting :) lmk if y’all have any ideas for more content like this cause this was fun to write :D

wip wednesday
working on a ghost x reader thing off and on. i've probably rewritten this bit four times.
inspired by this particular line from cyberpunk 2077 and this big fella from ruiner.
-
Stars flare inches above the crown of your head. The sparkler fixed to the bottle hoisted high in your hands bursts with heat and light, embers crashing and fizzling into nothing. The spectacle works wonders, sufficiently dazzling the crowded booth. Nine or ten men whose suits are in various stages of duress cheer. The arms unoccupied with dates welcome you and Irina.
A man in green beckons as the sparkler dies, the click of his tongue cutting through the music and noise. The light in VIP is dimmer than the rest of the club—your sparkle currently the brightest source, a torch illuminating the cramped path. You set the nearly extinguished bottle in the ice bucket and perch on the edge of the short table, closed knees oriented to his spread legs. You smile, intentionally widening it as he leans, draping his arms over his thighs to see you better.
The name of his cologne is on the tip of your tongue. Something expensive.
He chats you up, and you entertain him. All part of the job. As is flirting aggressively, which you do with expertise and veiled detachment. It’s roleplay. Everyone in the booth knows why you and Irina are here. Why they are here.
You get a name five minutes into laughing at his jokes, pouring champagne, and toasting his success. Win. The smile plastered to your face holds, miracle of miracles. Short for Winston, but everyone calls him Win. You supply yours in a purr, reaching and sweeping the backs of your nails up his jaw, pushing a stray lock of hair behind an ear—when a massive, gloved hand catches yours in a painful grip.
You yelp, and in the periphery, Irina’s head snaps in your direction. The hand crushing your own hauls you to your feet with such alarming ease that you feel as though you float to the points of your heels. The arm attached seemingly emerges from nowhere, the shadowy space near the booth’s rear, and its body follows.
Goliath. Colossus. Big.
A pale ogre in a suit and mask, a thick lowered brow set over a pair of dark eyes. Head buzzed, boldly displaying a pronounced scar stretching along his hairline. He squeezes, silently demanding your wandering focus. An iridescent shine flashes and then sweeps for all of a millisecond. A distinct feeling of violation pulses in your gut.
Win rises to his feet, eyes darting between you and the muscle. “Hey, Simon–”
“Do we have a problem?” A manicured hand slides over your bare shoulder, Irina’s raspy voice like a revving engine ready to rumble. There’s well over a foot of height between her and the masked man, this Simon. That’s never stopped her before, though. “Let go of her.”
Win grabs Simon’s wrist, and you inhale sharply the speed at which his eyes snap to the offending appendage. He stares at Win’s ringed fingers as if they’re slathered in shit before that same look returns to you. The weight of his stare is almost as oppressive as his grip.
“Release. C’mon, buddy. There, yeah, be friendly.” Win chuckles nervously, patting Simon’s shoulder and missing the second glare of disgust. “Sorry about that. Bodyguard. A mite overprotective. My shadow.”

A funny thing about Cyberpunk the tabletop RPG is that it was first released in 1988 with the setting being in the year 2013, then got a 2nd edition in 1990 set in 2020. Back then, these dates were far enough ahead that its predictions could be totally fantastical.
As the years went by though and we actually approached and flew past the years 2013 and then 2020, the Cyberpunk lore got really... Funny. The setting also got pushed back even further to 2045 for the TTRPG, and 2077 for the video game.
Some stuff Cyberpunk predicted should have happened by now
The United States is destroyed in a war with the united countries of South and Central America, splitting the US into two warring factions. Night City, the main setting of Cyberpunk, remained neutral and declared its independence from both.
The Soviet Union never collapsed, but the 1990s saw the rise of Japan and the EU as world superpowers after the fall of the US.
Musicians have real political power and influence. There's a whole class called Rockerboy, a rockstar whose poetic abilities can move their communities towards radical action. Johnny Silverhand, a violently anti-corporation rock musician after seeing corporations kick out Night City's farmers, is able to start a riot on demand with his band Samurai's concerts, and actively attacks and sabotages his corporate nemesis Arasaka on the regular.
World Wars between nations are replaced by the Corporate Wars, as corporations have overtaken nations in power. In 2018, the 4th Corporate War is waged between Militech and Arasaka after two minor companies that both big companies were partnered with got into a dispute. The resulting conflict makes the entire ocean unusable for intercontinental travel because the whole thing got covered in mines.
By 2013 journalists have big cameras they wear like monocles.
In 2013, people call their significant others their "outputs"

I enter the cyberpunk 2077 tag. I see a post about the game not being 'punk' because of all the triple A gaming company typical shit 'means it's not punk'. I roll my eyes so hard I exit the tag.
Points, context, rebuttal, whatever beloooow (I am not reblogging post because I don't want to attract hate to OP, but I am writing this cause I'm sick of seeing it).
Yeah triple A dev treatment fucking sucks. It sucks CDPR vowed to do different and didn't but that is missing a bunch of context. Here comes the context -
I've been following CDPR since about 2010-ish. They've always held onto older era gaming attitudes and respect their consumers. I guess in a way they were still made for an older era around the Cyberpunk release for the following reasons.
They shot themselves in the foot with their own marketing. Hiring a big name may have done that. If you look at the teaser trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 on announcement it basically says release date wise 'its done when it's done'. Being part of that older era they want to put out a COMPLETE game. Well tested. They came from a time where game updates were a LUXURY and that's why I trusted them to release a good product.
Marketing however got so big that it exited the realm of core fans and into the general public (derogatory). When they announced another delay, I was chill. I trusted them. Shit takes time man, whatever it takes to make it good AND treat your employees well bro. General public however was out for blood, sending death threats, pulling preorders.
There's this fine line you have to tread in marketing. Too little hype, no one knows about your product. Too much hype, you skyrocket expectations. Hype at the wrong time - you end up peaking at the wrong moment and end up losing momentum for release. You can see the conundrum here. They were arguably in the skyrocketed expectations and the losing momentum risk region.
So they did crunch time for release. In a way they had to. I mean sure they could have been 'punk' like OP suggested and said fuck you to the non-core fanbase but unfortunately punk doesn't pay bills. It doesn't keep the lights on. It doesn't keep your employees employed. It doesn't stop them from getting sent death threats for a delay.
So they rushed it out, it bombed. That sucked BUT it brought them peace. Because while everyone was making fun of them and quickly forgetting about it to go laugh at the next bomb of the month - it meant they could actually get onto fixing/finishing their game because people like ME knew them. It wouldn't be left as is. Also let them work at a less insane pace.
I started playing it (I finally had a PC that could handle it) right before the Edgerunners release and the public reboot. It was a fucking. Solid. Game. I studied game design and if I didn't get sick and had to stop this game would have been my goddamn final paper. There are so many good choices narratively and mechanically to the point you can't separate the two. It was everything I expected.
They worked hard to get there. We currently live in an era where entertainment is treated like fast food and people can be fucking incoherent when they're told to have patience. Why do you think so many games release in a scuffed state? Why do you think this new 'redemption arc' story in the game industry has become increasingly common? Because Devs keep getting sent DEATH THREATS just for doing work. That's fucking insane. No wonder they're working overtime and sleeping at the office because the general public has turned gamedev into an industry that basically uses psychological torture as a whip to get your game out 'on time'.
Yes there are absolutely horrible triple A gamedev companies, usually under the stable of a larger company (EA, Activision etc. take your pick) but CDPR ain't that. In my eyes their hand was forced.
You know what is punk? Going with a little, 'unpopular' (basically not DnD) ttrpg written by a black man and building a new IP and experience from it - AND having him on board and getting his active input during development. Because dear lord current media in general seems to be allergic to taking risks and new IPs.
You know what else is punk? Releasing free DLC updates that would be a micro transaction otherwise (no I am not talking about Phantom Liberty and I argue that's an 'expansion' though I guess no one uses that word now) and putting the goddamn pdf of the ttrpg handbook they based it off with the game download. Putting stickers in physical releases (going by my witcher experience), giving you goddamn HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGES of in game posters to print for yourself FOR. FREE. No one DOES THAT anymore.
Also arguably putting out Cyberpunk is punk just in the narrative it tells in the goddamn first place - especially in the current climate, but I think I've made my point here.
Also my last point, in big letters because it's driving me fucking insane:
CYBERPUNK. IS. A. GENRE. A GENRE. THEY DID NOT INVENT CYBERPUNK. BLADE RUNNER. NEUROMANCER. ALTERED CARBON. IT'S A GENRE. THE PUNK ELEMENT IS IN THE NARRATIVE. IT'S NOT SOME KIND OF 'STATEMENT' ABOUT THEMSELVES, IT'S A GENRE AND ALSO THE LITERAL TITLE OF THE TTRPG THE THING WAS BASED OFF IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Anyway I'm sick of seeing CDPR being thrown under the bus and being treated in ways that will actively end up affecting future development. I really, really hope they haven't been too affected but if they end up feeling forced into modern day gamedev cycles and all the bullshit that goes with it ... well I know why.
And it starts with people who spout shit like this.

Substance_D. I started this piece sometime ago around the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 and given that CDProject Red has finally finished the game(which I knew they eventually would), it made sense to finish off this piece. And I have to say, it's a fun game with interesting characters, non-linear levels, quest lines, and fantastic voice acting. And ofcourse the visuals. Holy shit! It's insane how CDPR has been able to merge so many of Cyberpunk influences from Blade Runner, GITS, Akira, Dredd, PKD's work, Gibson's work especially so much from Johnny Mnemonic! In most open-world games, I find myself using the fastest means of transport to just get to the objective but in this case, I found myself walking around and later double-jumping and dash around the world. I'm really glad that CDPR was able to deliver this even after the debacle. I would highly recommend the game in it's current state.
Now for some spoilers- Certain interactions and choices just made no sense, like V's reaction to seeing Reeds kill the twins. My version of V had made people commit mass suicide on overdrive for an NCPD sidequest. I wished the game incorporated more roleplay-based elements in there. Near the end I almost played like a Cyberpyscho but without the consequences. When I started the game, I missed the 3rd person cinematics cos in most games they add that character-player familiarity and actually make you care a bit more but then I played the Temperance ending which I think is the best ending of the game. Without spoiling much- playing this ending had me eat my words- you see your V for the first time in the 3D world(not counting mirrors or when riding bikes) creating this out-of-body experience as you play as Johnny now, it's harrowing, especially to see your V begging Johnny to make a decision and anyone who has paid attention to Johnny's ramblings throughout the game, it only made sense for him take the body. I know a lot of people are going to disagree but man, it's been ages since I played a game where I had to actually think about my decision.
