I've never seen this music video before. I appreciate all of the visual Magritte references but damn, someone sure was excited to squeeze every available transition effect into one video and make everyone feel like they're having a stroke. (I'm sure this was very cool at the time lmao.)

One reason "Rene & Georgette Magritte with their dog after the war" still makes such an impression on me is that I heard it on tape during my Babel phase when all the languages got jumbled up together & I mainly parsed/glossed phrases by prosody & syllable stress & threaded everything between all the languages I heard around me, so that line wormed its way into my preschool-aged brain, inexplicably, as "Rene и Georgette Magritte, mitn chien, apres la guerre"--it's like a preserved fragment of the Ur-language in which I used to perceive the world, a state I can no longer access except in fleeting glimpses, flashes here & there. It helps me understand the mechanics of poetry. :)

40 jaar geleden bracht Paul Simon een album uit dat commercieel gezien flopte, maar in de jaren daarna juist werd gewaardeerd: 'Hearts & Bones'. Een persoonlijk album dat hij in eerste instantie had bedoeld als comeback album met Art Garfunkel, maar uiteindelijk besloot om het toch als soloalbum uit te brengen. Ik zette het vandaag centraal als LP van de Week. De DisCovered stond in teken van de sterfdatum van Leon Russell. Het idee voor de Filmplaat kreeg ik afgelopen weekend toen ik naar de podcast van Leo Blokhuis luisterde over Harry Nilsson.

Volgende week is er een thema-uitzending van Cappelle Calling. I.v.m. de verkiezingen draai ik dan twee uur nummers over politiek. Suggesties hiervoor zijn welkom!
