2024 Mesa County Convention - Let Us Not Return to Old Ideas

In the most recent State Of the Union address, President Biden said we should not return to old ideas. Well, I, for one, could not agree more.

We should not go back to old-world ideas of slavery - where a few rule over the many without their consent. Where your life is not your own. Where you’re treated like property or worse. Where your hard work and production are taken. Where your family, home, and dreams are not your own but your master's.

Republicans stood against that old-world idea of slavery and stood for a new idea. A new idea that founded our nation- that all men were created equal. We stood up for that new idea, and we won.

Our first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation to free the slaves, setting the stage for Republicans to pass the 13th Amendment to outlaw slavery, the 14th Amendment to guarantee equal protection under the law, and the 15th Amendment to secure voting rights for former slaves. The Republicans of the day fought for the equality of the individual enshrined in our Declaration of Independence on a revolutionary new idea and we won.

Another old-world idea that should be left on the ash heap of history is communism. Where a few rule over many through the force of government. Where your life is not your own. Where you’re treated like property or worse. Where your hard work and production are taken. Where your family, home, and dreams are not your own but the States. Where ideas, innovation, and human progress all go to die.

Republicans of the day stood up for the individual at home and across the world. We took on communism and government tyranny with two world wars and one long Cold War.

Republicans stood up for economic freedom, property rights, the rule of law, consent of the governed, equality, and peace through strength. We won!

It’s clear watching the State of the Union that plenty of world-old ideas are being repackaged.

I assure you these old ideas of slavery in all forms; communism, socialism, collectivism, and centralized planning all have led to historic failures and human misery.

When everyone is important except you. When sacrificing the individual in the name of “good” or “society” is neither good nor good for the individual or the victims.

One thing is for sure: the Republican party has a history of rejecting these destructive old-world ideas and winning on ideas of our founding -spanning from Abraham Lincoln defeating slavery to Martin Luther King defeating democrat Jim Crow laws to Ronald Reagan defeating communism. Republicans have prevailed time and time again and won! Today's republican party will pick up this mantle and stand up for the truth that lives in each human being's soul. A truth that was placed in your hearts, that no master, no state, no mob rule, no elite few will ever take away the God-given rights endowed by our creator.

America is an idea, not an old-world worn-out relic. It is a revolutionary new idea that no person is another person‘s property and the true and just purpose of government is to protect the individual.

How blessed are we that we have all been born for such a time as this? That we Republicans will pick up our lamps. We will bring extra oil for the journey and we come prepared to light the way for others. To be the light of truth in the darkness.

Recently, I had a conversation with a dear friend who has been ranching her entire life. She said a 13-year-old who wanted to ranch told her that she had a dream to work the land, to grow something beautiful true and strong. She turned to my friend and asked, “Is it still possible? This dream, this hope, is it still possible?”

Today we have a choice to make today. What are we going to tell our children? Is it still possible?

Today is no different than our past. We have the same truth, the same light, the same new revolutionary ideas that won before that will win again.

Republicans from all across America will defeat old-world destructive ideas once more and restore possibility.

The possibility for individuals and families to achieve economic freedom, and live their American Dream with an abundance of opportunities. It is still possible!

It is a great day to be an American and it is a great day to be a Republican. Repulicans, pick up your lamp, and let's get to work, it is possible!
