This ask was re: a possible 2020 VC Secret Spring/Summer Santa, which got a surprising amount of support!

Just looking at that gif above, SUCH SIMPLER TIMES. I miss the days when our biggest fandom arguments were so fictionally indulgent and inconsequential, like Louis’ hair length and texture SIIIIIGH THOSE.WERE.THE.DAYS.

@orangedarcy: Can I ask just a general question about fic posting in the VC fandom?  I know most fic is now posted on AO3, but is there another more community driven place like LiveJournal used to be? I have fallen so far behind on the fic world, where does one post stories these days? Is it all here on Tumblr or is it mainly AO3 now?

Very good question. AO3 is the main place for just fic, some comment threads there, and ppl sometimes posted drabbles here on tumblr, and there are roleplayers here who do threads that are like collaborative fics… you can check my #RP tag to try to find them, but I admit I am out of date myself having taken a big step back from tumblr to focus on real life. 

There were LJ-esque places on Dreamwidth long before Tumblr, and I believe they’re all abandoned except for VC-Media where I’m a mod. You can find it through @vcmedia, ppl do post fic there, mods post drabble prompts weekly, and there have been some wonderfully lively times!

I had started the VC-Media tumblr blog a few yrs ago when we (the mods) wanted to try directing some traffic to the DW comm, to bring in some fresh blood (pun intended), but I hadn’t promoted it much bc I didn’t want the tumblr anti-shippers and/or trolls flooding it and trampling ppl. At that time, I had seen the antis in other fandoms choosing targets to bully on tumblr and twitter, using social justice window-dressing that was really only about them wanting attention. In our fandom, I’d seen similar bad-faith arguments over problematic characters/ships and I didn’t want to engage with it or invite it to a comm setting, bc that’s not what fandom is about for me.

Not to go on a rant here but I need to say it: Criticism is going to happen, and everyone has a right to criticize media. What was lost for a few years there is the concept that no one owes you their time or engagement in a conversation, especially not one in which one side demands complete submission from the other, and nothing less. Whether or not the criticism is the “One True Interpretation,” no one owes you their time or engagement. 

That’s still a concern of mine, but I am confident that my wonderful co-mods of VC-Media are ready to freeze comments and ban ppl who attempt to bully others or provoke arguments in bad faith.

There are a few other obscure places, but I don’t like to promote them publicly, bc they have little traffic, or are older, or I’d rather that AR not be aware just in case she changes her stance on fanfic (she had waged war on it in the 90s).

So that was a long answer but AO3 is probably the best if all you want is just finding fic to read, but please check out VC-Media to post your fic and have a lively discussion, it’s still thirsty for fresh blood!

Totally understandable, and I like your suggestions! We want to be able to accommodate ppl in your situation, so this is a good thing for us to keep in mind. Good luck in the job hunt! If running an awesome tumblr blog was a job, you’d be all set ;D

Claudia made an effort to read every one of the vampire chronicles and held onto their every word. Since she had distanced herself from her family this not only gave her an idea about what the others were up to but made her feel a little less lonely. With each novel she even stumbled upon new member of her family. This was what brought her to the events of that evening.

The petite had found herself thinking about one specific character that she couldn't pull her mind from. Not only had this creature taken a great deal of Lestat's attention, she was also very beautiful. Claudia knew this because she had made it a priority to track her down. She had even gone as far as to plan a meeting and the other was none the wiser.

Right now?  Black Mirror.  I’ve finally gotten around to it.  Of shows I’ve already seen?  Horrible Histories or the older seasons of Doctor Who.

Besides the obvious classical composers: Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mercer, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin, and Fred Astaire.  Those are the first five off the top of the head.  I wouldn’t necessarily say favorite, though.

The plot as stands:

Marcus of Rome is an ancient Roman general who... pretty much hates the rule of law and order. He's been building his own army of vampires to try and take down the current regime (being L estat and court). He has lost two of his soldiers he was "training" the first being Nicolas. The second being Santiago. He has beaten, raped, tortured, and just about everything else you can think of to these two to try and break them, but they escaped. Santino is Nicolas's mentor, and Nicolas told him all about Marcus. So he's been aware of the problem for quite a while now. He sent Vittorio to the Court to keep an eye on things, but now that Santiago escaped from Marcus, Santino fears that Marcus will push his plan forward. He didn't know what aggravated Marcus (he didn't know that he had Santiago) until he was informed by Vittorio of Santiago's arrival at court. Hence why Santino is now here, trying to get the Court to see the problems that are on their very borders.

P) Is there something or someone they cannot stand? Why? Thorne, due to having killed him. Marius due to him being the reason Thorne killed him. He is also not too fond of Benji and Sybelle as well as Daniel, all of whom he considers not fit for the Dark Gift and therefore a liability. He tries to be kind to them anyway as it is not their fault.

Q) Did they do something extremely dangerous at some point in their life? Antagonizing an Ancient was probably not one of his brighter ideas, but thus are the follies of youth. 

R) Is there something they wish they could do/achieve but can’t? He sure would love to go back in time and fix some of the grievous errors he has made in the past but there is no helping that.

S)  Is there something in their life they regret? Everything from 1350 to 1670. Which is to say, his entire time in the cult.

T)  Do they have any siblings? Family? Loved ones? His blood relatives are all deceased and left no descendants. Instead he considers Maharet, Jesse, Mael and Eric his family, though he rarely voices that sentiment if he can help it. Further does he have some remnant paternal feelings for Armand. He is in a committed relationship with his companion Eric that has been going on for over three hundred years now.

U)  Are they a morning or night person? Night person, and even then he’d prefer to sleep in.

V) Do they have a pet? What kind? If not, what kind of pet would they want? A Burmese python called Pythagoras.

Random fact about yourself?

I bathe in what is likely a few degrees below what is considered scalding hot water.  This isn’t a habit I formed as what I am now as some remedy for my cold skin.  I was like this even as a human.  Others were and are frankly uncomfortable in the temperature of water I prefer.  It has to turn the skin a blossoming pink; it has to sting.

I don’t have a favorite song, but I do have songs I really love that I sort of enjoy equally depending on my mood.  I love goth rock and industrial/electro-industrial.  In essence, creepy voices and strange noises with some hints of music beneath.  Go on.  Click.  Have a listen.

☮ ━ What do you do to try and get the muse to roleplay a character? 

I read a bit of Blood and Gold.  I keep a paperback copy on my bedside table.  I also have a PDF to scroll through or I can listen to a bit of the audiobook.  I prefer the PDF since it’s easy for me to switch back and forth between reading and writing.  It helps me remember his language, the way he thinks and processes, which affects how he responds and feels a lot of the time.  To play him, I need to connect with his brain.  I don’t always get it right, but I try.
