For a while when (very self-indulgently) thinking of a dr self insert I'd feel a bit weird trying to figure out what talent I would give myself. There's lots of things I like and apply myself to but nothing that I could confidently say Is My Thing even more than average. But after talking about it with a friend I finally came to a conclusion that I love.
I would be an Ultimate Lucky Student with luck levels about the same as Makoto, but in the same year as Komaeda. That way I got completely passed over for hope's peak, and instead went there as a reserve course student.

Kamukura kamukura yass kweeeen small infodump of a crazy man under the cut
ok so small elaboration on how the Kamukura Project and The Lucky Student Lottery worked exactly:
The Lucky Student Lottery was a way of finding a person with a luck talent (since I feel like that isn't something you can just give someone, no matter how many ethics laws you ignore) and force convince them to participate in the project (AND if things go perfectly, they have a perfect student they can parade around who's already considered an ultimate/shsl)
Komaeda was the first Lucky Student selected, and was actually totally down with participating in the project (stepping stones/sacrificing one's self in the name of hope and all that) but sadly, he found a heads up penny just before going in for the project (what are the odds?) and causing an earthquake the second they began the procedure. They quickly deemed his luck to be far too dangerous and just not worth the risk so they just kinda sent him back to class (with plenty of threats along the lines of "We Will Fucking End You If You Tell Anyone About Anything You Saw Here")
Next school year, and Naegi just so happens to be the new Lucky Boi. Unlike Komaeda, he very much did not want a fucking lobotomy, but was basically forced into signing the consent forms and going through with it. Believe it or not, just like Komaeda, he also happened to find a heads up penny before going in for the procedure (again, wtf are the odds?? esp in japan lol)
That's where the similarities with Komaeda's case end, with the procedure going ridiculously well, and the person once known as Makoto Naegi being locked away within his own mind to make room for the artificial Super High School Level Hope.

More Reserve Course OC Students!
Greetings! I have used some screenshots of Danganronpa Anime as a base/model for some poses, trying to make it as similar as the anime itself even though it is an AU thing.
Yumeno Saki is Gekkogahara Miaya's nephew.
Fumetso Makoto is the cousin of Fumetso Ichiko, the known SHSL Nailist from Class 72 and part of the SHSL Assault Team.
Torayoshi Najimi is the SHSL Judo Master from the SHSL Assault Team from Class 74 and Torayoshi Akumi is his younger brother and also, he has another twin brother in the Reserve Course.
Aishi Megami is the known SHSL Archer from the SHSL Assault Team from Class 63, Aishi Kokona is her niece.
Torayoshi Hokori is Torayoshi Akumi's twin brother and also Najimi's younger brother.
Ronshaku Horāno and Rokuda Kirā are merely random students with no relation to Ultimate students.
Shirasu Kurai, Mamoru Katana and Shingetsu Kenkō are also random students who don't have relation with Ultimates.
In this AU, Munakata Kyosuke had two older siblings, the oldest of them had a son named Haneyama Sosuke, who is Kyosuke's nephew.
Demura Hikari is Bandai Daisaku's niece, she is a soft and kind-hearted person who deeply adores her uncle. Both his uncle and her are pretty good farmers, but he got the Ultimate title.
Mio Ishida Maki is the younger sister of Mio Ishida Kuroko, the known SHSL Yo-yoer from Class 75 and part of the SHSL Assault Team. Maki is a master in Taekwondo and could have been selected as an Ultimate but someone else got the talent first.
Meet the triplets siblings Nejire! Nejire Yume is an archery specialist, not like Megami but close. Nejire Gekkō is a book lover (that allows her to learn all languages) and a clairvoyant, however, her accuracy is approximately 9/10 contrary to Hagakure who is 3/10, but she hates fame hence why she rejected the title of Ultimate Clairvoyant. Nejire Akumu adores japanese decorations, foods and specially, the kanji writting.
Kusha Aoi is the grandchild-niece of Tengan Kazuo, the former headmaster of Hope's Peak Academy. She is best friends with Guramu Osana, a singer prodigy very close to Sayaka's habilities.
These last five are random students who are not related to any Ultimate. Riotto Luca is a transfer student from Italy.
Note: As always, if the Reserve Course works exactly like a normal (if exclusive) japanese high school, then the Reserve Course has classtime and clubs (like Cooking Club, Photography Club, Kendo Club, etc), so some of these characters belong to them, aside from the special class mentioned in my previous post.
Reminder: None of these characters are canon in Danganronpa, they are part of my Alternate Universe (AU) in which Komaeda Nagito has multiple talents. Also, the names for the SHSL students known only by talents (aka the SHSL Assault Team members) are headcannon/created just for the sake of the AU.
Danganronpa, Reserve Course Department and SHSL Titles: Spike Chungsoft & Kodaka
Characters' name and backstory: @michimi-maidenvelekblog / @michimiart-blog
Alternate Universe: MultiTalent!Komaeda Nagito AU by @michimi-maidenvelekblog

Finished the book.
I have. Thoughts.
Particularly that Junko as a third person narrator....
Hm.
I have thoughts.
But do feel kind of good about both theories being relatively correct - that Mukuro was being Junko and also that sometimes Ryoko saw Junko separate from herself (this happens even in the end).
But the idea of Junko killing Ryoko - Ryoko being not necessarily the amnesiac her but the version of her who was attached to and in love with Matsuda - like obviously the book is showing the precursor to DR0 and how Junko ran a bunch of set up to pretest a bunch of what she planned to do prior to etc. But, for me, that's not what the story is about.
It's about Junko killing herself.
The part of herself that could have done something else. The part of herself that would have been happy (strong term for Junko, but it's still true) with Matsuda instead of. Doing everything else.
Killing the her who actually. cared about someone else. instead of just seeing everyone as pawns in a grand master plan.
(Also confirms my theory for death seeker Junko. Because she clearly would have enjoyed losing and brings up that she shouldn't plan in the future so that she's more likely to lose - which connects with my complaint with Ultimate Analyst Junko as we see her in the book not accurately predicting or knowing everything that would happen in DR1 - if she could do all of that with the events in DR0, including how Ryoko would act, then the events of DR1 should have been simple. She just actively DID NOT DO THAT so that SHE COULD LOSE. So that there would be the possibility that she might lose. Because she wanted the despair of losing! UGH JUNKO.)

I absolutely love Chisa but something that will never sit right with me is how she talked about her disdain for teaching the reserve course. She even said herself that talent isn't everything, but has an weird bias towards talented students.
Chisa describes teaching in the reserve course as the most awful, despair-inducing 6 months she has ever had. We don't know what it was like, but it'd be safe to assume that reserve course students weren't just rowdy because they can't afford to be kicked out.
Regardless of if they were or weren't, she has a ton of patience when it comes to her main class. _I mean a TON of it._
The whole reason she got switched in the first palce is because one of her students decided to blow up the gym. The first day she teaches, she goes out of her way to get her students to attend. Akane and Nekomaru destroyed the classroom. Hiyoko put an aphrodisac into their food. Yet she never once complained about how bad they were.
