Captain Swan Event

Hello, CS crew!! I come today with an event idea that has been tossed around in the discord server I run. (originally used for a different event >> CSMM) Okay, the new event  (Captain Swan Co-Storytellers Collaboration) would consist of groups of 3-4 people working together to write a captain swan story.  This is not a one person writes one part and passes on the document and so on until it reaches its end. No, this would be the ultimate team effort in an ensemble of amazing writers! Of course there are details to be ironed out but I wanted to know if anyone here was interested to join. I will share the form to get an idea of who is interested and for a way to contact anyone that wants to join in on the fun. As soon as I can I will reach out to you.

Happy Birthday Fic Teaser: “We Were Always Meant to Find You”

Happy Happy Birthday today to @whimsicallyenchantedrose​ !!! Jennifer, I have been so blessed by your friendship over the years; you were the very first fandom friend I made when I got into OuaT and CS, and it has been so much fun knowing you over that time. I hope that your birthday is wonderful and filled with all sorts of special moments. I wanted to write you a bit of a CS family future fic, and I have it all planned out and solidly started, but it just isn’t finished yet. Hopefully it will be posted for you to read entirely in just a couple more days, but until then, here’s a bit of a teaser and the cover art to give you some sort of a gift on your actual birthday!  

This fic is meant to be set in Storybrooke, post s6 and CS happy beginning, featuring little Hope, teenage Henry, their newly adopted sister, and an affectionately bemused narrator in Granny Lucas...

Here’s a tidbit of “We Were Always Meant to Find You”

The shepherd prince turned deputy sheriff raised his voice to be heard above the low murmurs and shufflings of such a crowd. “Thank you all for coming!” he greeted with a genuine, winning grin. “It means the world to Snow and I that you’ve all come here to support our family on such a special occasion. That you’ve extended your kindness and acceptance to our daughter and her family as well is something we will never forget. Emma may not always know how to express it, but I do know that she is grateful. Now, they were right behind us when we left the courthouse, so if we mean to surprise them, we’d better get ready! They should be here any minute!”

That announcement sent the crowd in her establishment into a flurry of activity, rearranging themselves to seem casual and unconcerned; not at all as if they were breathlessly awaiting the Savior and her small family - now officially one member larger - to sing and welcome and celebrate them to the point of embarrassment. Food and drink orders, seating preferences, and other side conversations were forgotten for the moment as all the gathered townsfolk waited with held breath while trying to seem as if they weren’t. 

From her vantage point by the old, battered but sturdy cash register, the Widow Lucas could already envision the very way Emma Swan’s eyes would drop to her boots, and she would be friendly and gracious, but a bit awkwardly brusque too. Still, after all this time in Storybrooke, she wasn’t fond of too much attention. The Captain, of course, as Grany acknowledged him fondly, would try to follow his lovely wife’s lead, but the tips of his rather notably pointed ears would be red, secretly pleased with the notice and care shown to his newest little love. Henry’s eyes would widen in joy and excitement, Granny knew, though he would have expected no less of them all, she reckoned, his believer’s heart optimistically anticipating the best of others and then often inspiring it. Young Hope would be holding court from the moment she realized everyone was there for her family. If ever there were a wee lass born to be royalty, Granny mused, it was that one; with every bit of her mother - and grandmother’s - beauty and bravery, and her father’s audacity and puckish charm, Hope Jones was irresistible to everyone she encountered.

Sure enough, soon they could all see through the diner’s large front windows,  Emma, Killian, Henry, Hope, and their newly adopted sister coming down the walk along Main Street. The last few whispers and scuffles dropped off as family and friends watched, hoping to make the Savior’s family joyously welcome with thier little surprise, in a manner they would never forget..

3) How many active WIPS are you working on / have in your WIP folder? (Active indicates a work with actual words and not just notes. Can be posting or yet to be posted.)

I believe I have three at the moment.

4) Share the titles (whether actual or just how you refer to them) of your active WIPS

The first one is Frozen in Darkness, the fourth and penultimate installment of my OUAT canon divergence series. Next is The Briny Willow Wars, my third Labyrinth fic. The third is called Comet and is a Lilo and Stich fic (which I admittedly keep forgetting about)

5) How many fic ideas / WIPs with only notes do you have a doc created for or have detailed in a journal?

I think I currently have three established fic ideas in the planning stages, but they don’t exactly have a doc created yet. At the moment, they’re mostly mapped out in my head

6) Share a few of you fic ideas / WIPs with only notes

One is a OUAT no-curse AU story in which Emma had the royal upbringing she was meant to have. I previously mentioned the plot here.

I did have plans for a OUAT at Hogwarts fic. But in light of the fact that I can no longer turn a blind eye to Rowling’s bigotry, I feel it’s best to shelf that idea indefinitely, unless I can figure out a way to write it without any direct HP references. (Sorry to those of you who were looking forward to that one.)

Another story I’m considering will be a collaboration with @revanmeetra87. This will also be a OUAT fic that will be an alternative take of the first season (not sure how far we’ll take it.) The premise will involve Emma trying to utilize one of those ancestry.com sites to try to determine where she came from, in the faint hope that it would help give her a clue as to who her birth parents were. But since she was born in the Enchanted Forest and was not technically from anywhere on Earth, her test results pretty much set off some alarm bells with government intelligence agencies, and in no time at all, Emma finds herself being forced to be on the run from the CIA. In trying to elude them, she unwittingly stumbles across Storybrooke.

Finally, I have tentative plans to essentially write alternative versions of select installments of the MCU, which would include an OC of mine. The OC in question was created by HYDRA as part of their efforts to create an army of human-animal hybrids. But the OC ended up being found and raised by the founders of SHEILD, instead. Unfortunately, that’s all I can say about that one without giving away important plot points.

CS Fic Rec Monday: “A Thread Through the Labyrinth”

“A Thread Through the Labyrinth”, by @revanmeetra87. Summary: One year after the death of Killian Jones, the people of Storybrooke are stunned to see him return...but he is unaware of anything that has happened over the past few years. Read it on AO3.

For today’s @csficrecmonday, I’m choosing what I think is one of the best 5B AUs out there! One of my favorite fics. I’ve always been a sucker for a cute baby in fics, which is what drew me in initially, but the whole thing is so well crafted. The villian especially - or should I say, villians. Blackbeard is wonderfully true to his slimy character, and I love what you’ve done with Mim. She’s just the right touch deranged, and I’ve been genuinely nervous about what she has planned. I’ve also really loved Starkey. The flashbacks are so wonderfully woven in here in a way that they never feel anything less but crucial. I’m on the edge of my seat, waiting to see how they finally converge! We’re closing in on the end here, and though I’m excited to see everyone get their fitting endings - your Mim and Gold stuff was wonderful last chapter, by the way - I’ll definitely be sorry to see this one go.

Thanks for writing this, and I can’t wait to see how it ends!

Rogue One and Solo are both really good. I liked Clone Wars but it is skippable for the casual fan, I think. Although if you are interested in the animated series, Rebel is a lot better than Clone Wars (Not that CW was bad. And it's just my own opinion.) Happy watching!! :)

I’m thinking about skipping the cartoons until I finish watching the films, but part of me feels like I should watch them while I still have the plotline fresh in my memory. Idk.

💚 speaking of: moving to leipzig. moving into my first flat. really meeting my roommate. being roommates. decorating my room. hanging up all my postcards. printing out my favourite pictures of london & hanging those up too. buying my own groceries. changing my bedsheets a lot. going to sleep in a new bed that’s mine. watering my plants. making dinner for myself. the grown-up life ahead of me feels wild & strange & romantic.

💚 related to that: having my dad teach me the Family Dish™ so i can make it for myself & my friends when i move out. he kind of taught me a few times before - i’ve looked over his shoulder a lot obviously - but i want to make sure i know it so i can take it to a new home with me & put my own spin on it too. & make it for my parents when they come visit me. i think that’d be quite nice & poetic & a very nice & soft & grown-up thing to do

At what point did you completely give up trying to understand the timeline?

I stuck with it for a long, long time but I can remember at one point they gave us a sneak peek and it had some timeline specification and the fandom freaked out. Adam said it was a mistake and they “fixed it” with “many years ago” or something that was worse! And I feel like that was when I realized for as much as I cared about making the timeline make sense they really, really didn’t care. That broke my spirit but the logic part of me still persisted for awhile doing a lot of mental gymnastics but somewhere early in S6 I think I gave up entirely

Worst casting decision?

Every time they decided to have the adult actor play a teenage version of themselves. Didn’t matter how good the writing was having the wrong age person play it just ruined what they were going for. Emma and Neal in Tallahassee come to mind. The whole “young love” thing doesn’t work with 30-year-old actors and neither does the whole “he was a scared kid!” Like can you imagine if instead of the teenager Bae they had used MRJ for the Lost Boy scenes with Hook? Or how about “teenage” Ginny having her first kiss with Hercules?  I would give Liam a lot more slack if they had had a 19-year-old playing him and not a 40-year-old man when he decided to murder an entire ship. (Although that would have meant I never got Killian in that costume so...)

Which family dynamic was way worse than problematic?

Most cringe moments?

Golden Queen (but sometimes in a ‘so bad it’s good’ way) and almost every Regina and Zelena convo in S3. “Well I’m evil” but “I’m wicked!” and repeat.

2024 part 2

Hello all!! Happy New Year!! So I will be resetting my tag list. I know I haven't been active or have updated in a while. I hope this year is different. I certainly felt bad for this kid initially.  But as the show progressed and he began spiraling downwards, he became less and less sympathetic.  Really a shame his mother died and he also lost his surrogate mother figure as well, because this boy needs parental guidance back in his life.

opinion: again, who??? / the purest bean / cinnamon roll / who knows really / sinnamon roll / the problematic fav otp(s): None, really other ship(s): Maybe Skylar?  They do seem to have a whole partners in crime relationship at a few points #noromo ship(s): Perhaps Allison Hawkins?  She was a reasonably sensible teen.  Perhaps she could have become a voice of reason for Dale crack ship(s): Can’t think of any. fav headcanon(s): Hmmm.  I wonder if Dale eventually would get mixed up with Jonah.  And Jake would step in, recognizing that Dale was in danger of repeating the same mistakes he made as a teenager and wanting to prevent that

In a nutshell, the man is all talk but no brains, with an inability to think long-term.  It’s rather a shame the majority of Jericho fell for it and chose to replace Johnston Green with this guy as mayor.  But at the same time, it was sadly realistic, as desperate people can be irrational.  However, at the same time, I can tell he’s not a bad guy and he does care about the town.  And he does eventually realize that he had bitten off more then he could chew, as he is able to swallow his pride and seek help from people who were better suited to lead the town.

To be honest, I presently don’t really getwhy this character was so popular among the fanbase.  To date, I’ve only seen him in Phantom Menace (where I think he only had one line) and his brief cameo at the end of Solo (which was more jarring than anything, as that was my first indication that he somehow survived getting split in half and falling down a seemingly bottomless pit) .  That’s not much to go on.  Maybe my opinion will change once I get father into the Clone Wars series, as well as Star Wars: Rebels.  I think he pops up in those shows, right?

While Peter is usually treated as the de facto leader of the original Ghostbusters, the team itself really couldn’t function without Egon, as he is the brains of the operation.  Particularly since he has a textbook knowledge of the ghosts they face, and was also the one who designed all of their equipment.  (Yeah, Ray helped with that, but that’s beside the point.)  At the same time, his heightened intelligence is somewhat tragic.  In the show The Real Ghostbusters, and arguably the movies as well, it’s strongly implied that he was born into a family that demanded he excel academically, and never really allowed him the chance to simply be a kid.  So it’s no small wonder he turned out the way he did, oftentimes struggling to understand social cues and norms and having difficulty connecting to people on an emotional level.
