What chapter are you on? Also is MCR actually that good or is the band's music like just 7/10 overall and it's just that it's a classic for weird angsty teens from the 2000's? I've never actually listened to MCR, and honestly I'm primarily familiar with Gerald Way as a guy who does comics.
the weird angsty teens line has me on the fucking floor help 💀
ok first of all, i didn't make any progress in sbr, i was busy yesterday and the only thing i did today was watching part 4 with my dad...
for mcr; they're a rock band, and their music is actually good, it's definitely not just the angsty emos liking it just for the hell of it. the black parade is objectively their best album, i would even dare to give it a 10/10. you should definitely listen to it if you want to.
their first album: i brought you my bullets, you brought me your love, is messy af production wise and tbh it's not for everyone, but songs like demolition lovers or early sunsets over monroeville on this album are some of their best imo.
three cheers for sweet revenge is my second favorite album, it's really good too, and this is the most pop-punk and emo sounding one if i had to choose.
danger days is kind of leaning more into pop but not really tbh. this one and conventional weapons (not a real album more like a compilation of singles), are probably my least favorite ones, although they also have good songs. off the top of my head i can say that bulletproof heart and summertime (dd), and boy divison (cw) are some of my favorites.
the cool thing about mcr is, that not only the music fucks hard, but that they also have an aesthetic and a story for each of their albums that you can explore by connecting the songs and lyrics paired with the music videos etc etc.
this is not meant to be a front against you, but it kind of baffles me that there are actually people out there who know gerard from his comics and not from mcr. maybe you're a rare breed, maybe i'm just undereducated about gerard's influence in the comic industry. i only own the first physical umbrella academy volume and haven't read any of his other works.
chapter anon, you should definitely listen to mcr if you want to. i would recommend listening to the albums in order of release, but if you don't have the time and/or motivation, here are some of my favorite mcr songs off of each album:
bullets:
vampires will never hurt you
early sunsets over monroeville
demolition lovers
three cheers:
the jetset life is gonna kill you (this song is where my url comes from wooohoo)
hang 'em high
cemetery drive
the black parade:
the sharpest lives
cancer
mama
danger days:
bulletproof heart
summertime
destroya
if you wanna get into the guys' solo work i can help you out with frank iero's (rhythm guitarist) stuff
