A/N: Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays. This gift is for the lovely @loving-the-cambridges who's also taking part of the Life Day Gift Exchange by @cloneficgiftexchange . Your little prompts are fanfic heaven for me so I hope I incorporated them to your liking, albeit with the twists I made to them. And I am so so sorry for the slight delay friend!!! Happy Reading :D
P.S. It's overdue by a year but I'm also writing this for the @clonexreaderbingo challenge (which was about a year ago).
As the festivities continue, you look to the sky and find yourself meditating on the constellations twinkling high above the laughter and dancing. You wander along the edge of the celebrations, the sound of music and enthusiastic drinking fading into the background and pushing a smile onto your features. You watch as the 501st relax with the people of Dondri, and if you didn’t know better, you would think this was another normal rotation for them. But as all things, the joy goes as quickly as it comes when you look towards one particular member of the legion and find him standing near the Prince, his eyes scanning the crowd to ensure the safety of the royal family.
Maker, it truly was unfair how effortlessly attractive that man was. Whatever he was doing, even if he was merely lounging or standing quietly and doing nothing, he looked absolutely exquisite. And with every ounce of your being, you wished you were only physically attracted to him. But the opposite was true; the genuine dedication and care he upheld with everything that he did was what first caught your eye. Never have you met someone as tender and responsible as him. It would have been so much easier if you just found him objectively handsome, but like everything you’ve had to reevaluate recently, you knew whatever emotions stirring within you each time you are in his presence were based on more than his looks. It was such a dangerous thought process though, because for the first time since you were knighted, you genuinely debated ignoring the rules and confessing to him your feelings. He was everything you could ever want and so much more.
Too bad he couldn’t stand the sight of you.
It was so unfortunate, but perhaps it was for the best. Maybe if the feelings were mutual, things would have been more complicated, more so for him than for you. So much would have been at stake, the most important being his position and well-being. But a part of you secretly hoped that he, at least, tolerated working with you. And you would have thought he did, if it weren’t for the fact that he tended to leave every time you were in the same room. Each suggestion you made, he would meet with some bit of hostility, not disrespect, but just irritation at the prospect of carrying out your commands. It was horrible.
Yet it made you want him all the more. He had a sense of honor that he upheld more than most, a trait that was rare during these times. A characteristic that made you avoid him at every chance you could so as to not make him uncomfortable. You were not his General, but you were a General, one that he would have no choice but respect publicly. It made no sense to limit his whereabouts, certainly not during a time like this.
Which is how you found yourself walking away each time he joined your company. If you were discussing an issue or two with Anakin and he joined, you would excuse yourself, telling both men that they could handle whatever the problem was without your help. If you were playing sabbac with Fives and Kix, and he sat beside them, you would feign a headache and leave, letting them know that you would get some rest. And if you were hanging around the royal family, learning about the Life Day Celebrations on their planet and saw him walking towards you, you would let them know that you were to make rounds for the night and exit the room, not once looking back as you left him behind. Granted, it made things especially difficult since you needed to discuss much with the Prince and his sister, and he was, somehow, always around you when you were with them, but you didn’t want to accidentally offend him further.
Whatever grudge he held against you did not need to grow simply because of your ego.
No. It was best you watched him from afar. It had to be.
You make your way towards one particularly large tree, hiding behind it in order to look at the man without anyone noticing. Always putting his job before anything else, Rex stands firmly in his place, arms crossed in front of him and lips pouting in attention. You allow your eyes to move down his form, and silently curse yourself when you realize where your mind may be racing towards.
“Stare any harder and he might magically appear in front of you.” You shut your eyes and drop your face forward to hide the heated flush making its way towards your cheeks. Of course he knew where you’d be standing, and who you’d be daydreaming about.
“Shouldn’t you be talking to the Prince about his involvement in the war?” You begrudgingly hiss at him, knowing that your reaction will be adding fuel to the fire.
“Shouldn’t you?” Anakin retorts instantly, making you wish you weren’t chosen for this mission.
“I would, except everyone on this planet is currently into their third cup of Corellian whiskey so I highly doubt anyone will be paying attention.” You finally turn around and face Anakin, already hating the smirk on his face when he notices how flustered you are.
“Funny, that’s exactly why I’m not talking to him either.” He steps in front of you and rests his weight on the tree, throwing back a cup of maker knows what before handing it to you.
“No, thank you.”
“You need it more than I do,” he shoves it one last time into your hands, nodding in victory when you take it and drink the rest of it down. You wince at the bitter taste but silently thank him for handing it to you. Neither of you say anything for a while, more entertained by the shenanigans of your men as they made absolute fools of themselves in front of the Dondrians.
“You should really talk to him.” The sentiment irritates you more than it should. You know he means well, but given the circumstances, and who you were, you found the suggestion a little insensitive.
“I’ll keep that in mind, good night.” You hand him back the cup, hand ensuring that your weapon is still on your hip before moving across the crowds. You don’t dare make eye contact with anyone, afraid they’d drag you into whatever game they were playing and force you to stay longer.
But as you strut past your friends, something slowly pushes against the back of your mind, nagging you until you halt in your steps and study the forest. You stare across the groups of celebrations, turning around just in time to see Anakin running through his men. You push through the drunk masses, and only when you’re a few steps away from the royal family do you hear the high-pitched sound of a blaster going off.
Without thinking much of the consequences, you sprint towards the upper table and violently shove Rex out of the way, shutting your eyes in pain when the blaster hits your side and barely misses the Prince and his sister. The joyful laughter quickly turns into panicked cries, and you look down at the two members of the family you were meant to be watching closely, praying to the maker that neither of them are injured or else this diplomatic journey would turn into a political nightmare.
“Are you hurt?” You ask them both, sighing in relief when they pat each other down and realize that neither of them were hit.
“Stay down,” you order the two of them, standing to your full height and igniting your lightsaber, but not before glancing to the side to make sure that Rex was unharmed. You feel your heart skip a beat when you find his eyes and see the anger swimming in them.
“Don’t leave their side,” you tell Rex before taking off, already regretting the argument you will surely have with him when everything calms down. As if you needed to give him more reasons to dislike you. You will yourself to focus on finding the assassin, stopping in front of a group of clones to see which of them can follow you.
“If you haven’t been drinking, follow me. The rest of you look after these people.” Five men stand to their feet at your command, already putting their helmets on to try and see where they should head. A part of you knows that you may have already lost this hunter in the crowd but you try to find him regardless, knowing that the celebrations may come to a halt and cause even more unrest with the Dondrians if you don’t at least try to find anything about him.
You run towards the cluster of trees high on the hills, certain that it was the best vantage point where you can see everything unfolding within the crowds. But with each step you take, you feel the wound on your side burn in anger, begging you to take a moment of respite before resuming any movement.
“You’ve been hit,” you don’t mean to snap at him, but Anakin’s remark sends you in a fit of irritation and you smack his hand away when he tries to move your robe to the side to get a better look at the bleeding gash.
“No shit, genius.” His eyes narrow at your tone, but you know he isn’t taking any offense to your little outburst. You’re about to head to higher ground when you feel a hand grab at your arm and pull you back.
“Enough, you and I both know we won’t find him. Not now at least. Come on.” He motions for his men to stand down, and they all look between you and him before they head down the hill first. As much as you hate to admit it, you know Anakin’s right, and you reluctantly sheath your lightsaber again before following him towards the calming throngs of people surrounding the royal family. As you bump into the soldiers, you do your best to refrain from reacting to the searing pain beating at your side, knowing that Anakin will make sure Kix doesn’t allow you to so much as breathe the wrong way. You couldn’t afford getting his attention, not when you could feel the eyes of a certain clone staring daggers into the back of your head as you paused and stood in front of him to speak with the Prince. You see him engage in a conversation with Anakin, worried at the prospect of anyone in his family getting hurt due to his recent change in political stance.
“While I can appreciate the importance of this issue, we need to get you inside.” You turn between him and your old friend, waiting quietly until they acknowledge your suggestion before moving behind them towards the gate of the city. Making sure that each member of the inner circle is accompanied by a couple of your men, you stay back to rest your side, turning your eyes to the sky in an attempt to focus on anything but the excruciating burning beating at your skin. You’re almost distracted too when you feel a hand rest on your back while another holds your upper arm.
“You need to go to medbay.” The calm, soothing voice of none other than the man you’ve been doing your best to avoid signals a wave of heat to course across your body, and before you can try and argue with him, you feel lightheaded, the adrenaline finally leaving your body completely with nothing but a faint memory of what had happened. You brace yourself on his shoulders, shaking your head and furrowing your eyebrows at him when you look up and see the angry grimace from before returning with a vengeance.
“If it’s all the same to you Captain, I think it’s best I just go and rest. No need for medbay.” You try to let go of his shoulders but as soon as you take a step back, your body sways and nearly falls over. His arms brace against him, and had you been a little more present, maybe a little more mischievous, you would have asked him to buy you dinner first. But you weren’t too conscious of what was happening, so you accept the help quietly, not bothering to say anything even when Kix comes around and supports your weight as well.
“With all due respect sir, Rex may not outrank you, but I do…when it comes to your wellbeing at least. Come on.” You miss the way he looks at Rex, and you definitely don’t notice Rex’s clenched jaw as he reluctantly lets go and makes sure you won’t fall over. And you unfortunately don’t see the look Rex gives you, guilty that you felt the need to push him out of harm’s way and take the hit instead.
The three of you walk in silence back to the city, and when you get to base, you glance back at Rex and frown when you see how angry he is with you. Had you been more aware however, you would have realized that he was not upset with you, but at this whole situation. As soon as you enter medbay, you lay down in one of the beds, hissing in pain when your lightsaber accidentally brushes the open gash on your side.
“Let me take this,” Rex moves to your side and attempts to grab your weapon, but you flinch at the sudden movement, eyes panicked at the prospect of not having your lightsaber with you, even though you were perfectly safe here.
“You don’t have to, I-”
“General, don’t make this more difficult than it already is.” He sighs heavily, the reaction hurting you more than it should. Of course he thought you were a burden. He was probably supposed to be with Anakin but felt the need to remain by your side out of duty. You don’t mean to, but your hand falls back in defeat, eyes watering almost instantly at being such an inconvenience to him. If he notices the way you react to his words, he says nothing and approaches you slowly once more, as if he was walking towards a wounded, helpless animal. He says nothing as he unclips the lightsaber from your side and clasps it on his own belt.
“Rex, I need you to leave.” Kix interrupts as he walks towards you, pointing at the door so Rex could leave.
“Why?” You think he’s being a little defensive, but you brush the thought aside, knowing for a fact that there is no reason why the Captain of the 501st would want to stay behind just for you.
“Because it’s my job to take her armor off and treat her, not yours. Get out!” Kix is more assertive than before, and you shut your eyes to avoid looking at either of them as they continue to talk about you. Something shifts in the air but you choose to ignore it as well, barely managing to open your eyes and gaze at Rex when he whispers in return.
“I’ll be outside.” He looks at you as if the last thing he wishes to do is leave this room, and you’re not sure what prompts you to, but you nod in acknowledgement to let him know that you’re thankful for him, watching him exit the room, but not without looking back at you one last time. As the door slides shut behind him, Kix silently removes your armor and clothes, not bothering to say anything else as he begins cleansing the wound and suturing it.
You’re not sure how long you’re on that bed, but when the medic lets you know that he’s almost done, you realize that you’ve been clenching your hands the entire time. Relaxing your muscles completely, you thank him and sit up, waiting until he covers your side with a bacta patch before standing fully again.
“You know, if I have to stand around one more minute and watch the two of you act like…like fucking bantha, I might just shoot myself and be done with it.” Kix says with a smirk, not caring for your passive aggressive remark as he applies the patch and pushes a little too hard on the skin to get you to be quiet.
“You’re a medic Kix, not a therapist.”
“Yeah well, someone’s going to have to tell you both to get your heads out of your asses…respectfully sir.” Once again, you narrow your eyes at him and shake your head, not bothering to wait until he puts the armor back on before grabbing it and walking to the closest mirror to see what he’s done.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You say in passing, irritated and confused by his choice in words.
“Sure you don’t.” You’re about to respond when he opens the door to the room and calls for Rex to come back. Surprisingly, it takes a few seconds for Rex to come and stand beside you again, studying your features as you look at the covered wound and try to see which movements hurt and which don’t.
“The wound isn’t too deep but it is pretty large. It should heal in the next few hours, assuming you switch the bacta patch and put on a new one. In the meantime, I’d suggest you don’t partake in any serious, physical activity…unless of course you’re with-”
“Alright, that’s enough.” You turn around quickly and snap at him, mentally patting yourself on the back when you see his smile drop instantly at the realization that he may have gone just a little too far. You quickly glance at Rex and find him confused at your outburst, but he says nothing and instead unclips the lightsaber from his belt and returns it to you. For a brief second, your fingers pass against his softly, and you feel chills run down your spine at how calloused and warm they felt against your own.
“Thank you,” you whisper your gratitude to Kix one last time before practically sprinting out of the room, feeling the frustration rise deep within your chest when you notice Rex falling into step with you. You had hoped that he wouldn’t follow you back, mostly because you were planning on visiting the Prince to ensure that he understands not to be seen by anyone until you’ve resolved this rather problematic hiccup.
“I’m sure there is something more worth your time Captain…you can leave if you wish.” You say assertively, praying to the Force that he reads between the lines and leaves you to your devices.
“If it’s all the same to you General, I think it’s best I make sure you return to your quarters safely.” You expected his response, but hearing it irks you more than you initially thought and you speed up in an attempt to distract yourself.
“While I appreciate your concern, I am of help to no one if I return to my rooms. Where’s Anakin?”
“He is with the Prince. Sir, I strongly request for you to return to your room.” Ever the Captain, he doesn’t budge once in his stance and catches up to you, going as far as taking a few more steps until he stops ahead and forces you to slow down.
“Captain, please.”
“You'll be helpful to no one if you can’t keep up.” He crosses his arms and stares straight into your eyes, not once caring for how you could easily write him up for insubordination.
“I need to see Anakin, I think I have a plan to catch this assassin.” You take a deep breath and relay your intentions to him, preparing yourself for an onslaught of questions and push back to the plan you have in mind.
“How do you know it’s an assassin and not a bounty hunter?” You notice the way his body language shifts from defensive to a more curious, even docile manner.
“No one in their right mind would come to Dondri during the Life Day Celebrations just to kidnap a member of the royal family. Also, I’m fairly certain he was aiming straight at his head.”
“And how do you plan on catching him?” He furrows his eyebrows at you, making you wish he wasn’t standing so close to you so you’re affected by every little detail you keep observing about him. Shaking the thought aside, you take advantage of his distracted mind, walking around him and continuing towards the royal palace.
“By giving him exactly who he wants.”
“Sir, please.” He calls out to you one last time, this time with an exasperated sigh that you wish was out of care and not duty.
“Captain, your request is noted.” You turn around one last time against your better judgement, watching closely as Rex’s pout deepens before he switches his attention to the ground. You study him then, wondering why he was suddenly so intent on your well being. It’s not as if he never showed any concern before, but there was something strange now, something you chalked up to what you did earlier.
You almost tell him to accompany you to Anakin, but then remember what he might say when he finds out what you have in mind to catch this man. Footsteps echo in the hallway as you practically run to Anakin, and you’re glad when you find him standing alone outside the Prince’s quarters. He looks up when he hears the frantic stomps growing closer, his expression falling as soon as he realizes it’s you approaching him.
“Wow, you should be resting. What are you doing here?” He’s half-concerned, half-surprised, the faint lines of a smile betraying how irritated he is at seeing you.
“I think I know how to catch this guy.” You straighten up, gazing at your friend until his apprehensiveness gives way to genuine interest.
“I’m listening.” Anakin pushes away from the wall, eyes narrowing at you as he turns fully to face you.
“I highly doubt he will want to try again in such a crowded place so he will definitely wait till the Prince is by himself.” You step closer to him, anchoring your thoughts to the best of your abilities as the pain in your side begins to return once more.
“Yeah, that’s not going to happen.” He shakes his head strongly, frowning at whatever idea you had in store for him.
“Listen. We will give him what he wants, or at least, what he thinks he wants.” Anakin’s gaze shoots up then, and you watch the moment his confusion turns into a deep interest and desire to solve the issue.
“Elaborate.” His jaw is tight, and you brace yourself for whatever reaction he gives when you tell him about your idea.
“He knows how important his Celebration is, and he also knows that part of it involves the King-to-be going out into the lake and offering blessings to the gods on behalf of his subjects. So, we make him think the Prince is actually going out there.” Your voice is low but even, pausing in your explanation to gauge Anakin’s reaction.
“You’re suggesting a decoy?” His gaze is steady but you don’t budge, not wanting to give him any reason to think you are unready or reluctant to lead the mission.
“Yes, I am.” You nod confidently, glancing behind you and biting into your cheek when you see Rex walking toward the two of you.
“So the Prince will be safe in his quarters the whole time.”
“Yes,” you exhale through your nose, bracing yourself for the question you’re sure will be asked at any moment now.
“And who’s the lucky guy that will replace him?” He throws his hands up then, as if to say he doesn’t agree with the plan but has no choice.
“Me.” You don’t flinch as you respond immediately, shutting your eyes to calm yourself when you hear Rex’s outburst next to you.
“No.”
“Pardon me?” You turn to face him, not bothering to control your aggressive tone as you ask him to repeat himself. Rex can tell you don’t appreciate his response, passively shaking his head and glancing between you and Anakin to try and indirectly ask your friend for help.
“I…don’t think that’s wise.” He repeats again, and you miss the way Anakin hides his smile behind his hand.
“Don’t shoot me, but I think I agree with Rex on this one.” It’s Anakin’s turn to pitch in, his voice harder than before and making you wish you didn’t get easily rattled by such minimal details.
“Well, good thing I outrank the both of you.” You know better than to say something so superficial, and you shrug your shoulders when Anakin replies straight away with an annoyed lilt in his voice.
“You don’t outrank me!”
“Okay, yes but…you’re still healing. I’m all for taking risks-” You cut him off then, not appreciating the hypocrisy of his words and actions.
“But not when it’s someone else?” Standing your ground, you meet his gaze and search his face for any sign of hesitation, knowing that he has already agreed to your suggestion when he shifts his weight and pretends to still think about it.
“Why not me?” He asks quietly, the question meant less to argue and more to keep the peace.
“Because I’d rather we take this guy alive. Sorry Ani, but I don’t exactly guarantee the outcome with you.” You feel bad for critiquing his tactics but you don’t back down, wanting him to know that you prepared to see this to the end.
“Fair enough.”
“Good, you can tell the Prince our plan. Make him address the people in an hour, something along the lines of ‘he won’t be bullied out of his duty’ and then we can head down to the lake.” Stepping aside, you walk around both men while telling them what to do, wanting to deal with this hiccup as soon as possible so you can address the real reasons behind your visit to the planet.
“Where are you going?” Anakin asks, gesturing between himself and the room behind him.
“Get dressed. I need to look the part.”
Going back to your room, you do your best to think of the task at hand, but with every question you ask yourself, you find your thoughts shifting towards Rex. A part of you wishes he only objected because he doesn’t want to see you get hurt, but the more irrational side of your brain is convinced it’s only because he doesn’t trust your judgement. You’ve never given him any reason to doubt your abilities, so you aren’t sure why he still can’t accept your discernment.
As you step into the room, you strip down and walk towards your case, bringing out a new pair of robes and placing them on the bed. You make your way to the refresher and freshen up, doing your best to put the discomfort in your side out of your mind. When you hear the sound of the broadcasting, you forgo switching the bacta patch and get dressed quickly, afraid Anakin will move ahead without you. You return to the Prince’s quarters in record time, hood placed over your head to shield you from any prying eyes not meant to know it’s you. Stopping in front of Anakin, you make sure there are guards posted inside and outside the royal rooms, quickly letting him know that none of the servants know the plan to avoid anyone saying anything to the wrong person.
“You ready?” Anakin asks, leaning into your space to gauge your reaction while pretending to protect you as you walk towards the nearby lake.
“Let me get back to you on that.” You chuckle in response, pretending your attention isn’t on the annoyed Captain flanking your other side.
“Hey, it was your idea.” Anakin straightens up once more, eyes studying the slowly growing crowds seeing you to the lake
“It sure was.” Your answer is clipped, mostly because you can tell that Rex isn’t getting any calmer beside you.
“I hate this.” The three words are whispered, yet the way in which Rex says them makes you wish you could ask him here and now when he was so adamant on letting you know he doesn’t agree with your decision.
“You have something on your mind Captain?”
“Yes, loads as a matter of fact.” It’s the first time Rex answers in such an abrupt, curt manner. Before, he used to offer a silent apology if he spoke out of line, but seeing his anger sizzle deeper with each step you took towards the lake makes you all the more irritable.
“Well, don’t let me interrupt you.” You answer monotonously, not bothering to hide how vexed you feel from the constant bickering with him.
“Hey guys, as much as I appreciate your flirting, let’s focus here. You’ll be on the boat by yourself and we won’t be anywhere near until we see someone coming towards you. If things take a turn and you find yourself in a particularly awkward position, just push this button and we’ll come to you.” The two of you face Anakin, and while Rex looks away embarrassingly, you stare at your friend, silently telling him to watch himself and not test you.
“That won’t be necessary, I’m going with her on the boat.” The ease with which Rex replies grabs your attention right away, and it’s your turn to be at the receiving end of his sheepish expression. You wonder if he knows how uneasy he looks returning your gaze.
Or how unfairly handsome he is as he leaves no room for discussion.
“No, you’re not.”
“Yes, I am.” He doesn’t blink once, meeting your adamance with a stubbornness you’ve never seen before.
“Captain, if he sees you coming on the boat, he will not come.” Anakin tries to alleviate the tension but neither of you back down, wanting the other to step away first.
“I’m not taking a chance with you. And…he won’t see me coming on the boat, not if I swim out to you and climb on.” The firmness with which he explains himself nearly makes you think there’s more to this offer than meets the eye, and you forgo proprietary to ask him what he means by not wanting to take a chance with you.
“Captain, you’re-”
“Why do you constantly make things difficult for me?” He cuts you off then, the swift question quiets you immediately and forces you to look ahead, away from the company surrounding you.
“I’ll take that as a yes then.” Anakin whispers and you hate how he always wants to get the final word in. You walk the rest of the way in absolute silence, your mind flickering with hope at the prospect of Rex feeling anything other than despise for you.
“We’re here.”
“Good luck.” Anakin snaps you out of your haze as he readies the boat, and you nod at him before stepping onto it. You undo the rope, and make your way to the front of the swaying sail, not bothering to turn around when you feel it moving softly through the water. You focus on the dark body of water ahead of you, looking up to the sky and marveling at the twinkling stars as they shine above you. Only when you hear faint scratching at the hull of the boat do you remember what you’re supposed to do. Waiting until the boat is angled ahead and away from the shore, you turn on the comm link and step forward to see where Rex is hanging on.
“Are we far enough from shore?” You ask Anakin, praying you receive an affirmative answer quickly so Rex can get out of the cold water.
“Yes,” Anakin gives you the go-ahead, and you pull the hood of your cloak higher before turning on the lights around the boat to offer a brief distraction.
“Permission to come on board, General?” Rex asks strenuously, and you wonder if this is his attempt at being civil.
“Granted, come up before you freeze to death.” He pulls himself up right away, and you point to the small room in the lower deck, not wanting him to be seen by anyone that may be watching you.
“Stay low.” You whisper to him, wishing you could take your cloak off and offer it to him so he can get warmer.
The slow rocking of the boat lulls you into a fake sense of peace, and you force yourself to remain passive to the presence of the man behind you. The lights flicker softly around you, and when you lean over to touch one of the ornaments hanging on the cords, a shooting pain coursing across your abdomen prevents you from moving so much as a muscle.
“How’s your side?” Rex notices you wincing and almost approaches you, but you shake your head to prevent him from coming up the deck.
“It’s fine.” You clench your fists tightly as you right yourself, not wanting to appear suspicious. It’s quiet for a few minutes before you decide to return whatever civility Rex was attempting to offer you.
“Hmm, it’s quite beautiful out here.” Your eyes are glued to the night sky, completely missing the way Rex longingly gazes at you when he agrees.
“Yes, it is.” A shiver runs down your spine at the low, whispered tone of his voice, and when you turn your attention towards him, you find him shaking from the cold air seeping through his armor.
“You’re cold.” There’s an apology at the tip of your tongue, and Rex must see how bad you feel about this because he shrugs his shoulders and tells you otherwise.
“I’ll manage.”
“You shouldn’t be here. I really don’t understand why you were adamant on coming with me.” It’s not what you want to say to Rex, far from it. But you know for a fact you can’t be straightforward and ask him why he didn’t back down and decided to join you.
“It is my job to protect you.” Again, you’re thrown off by how soft and docile he sounds, and it takes every ounce of control in your body to not turn around and stare into his eyes as you ask him the next question.
“Job? Is that the only reason why you’re here?”
“Y-yes. Why else would I turn down shore leave?” Had he not hesitated, you would have believed him and dropped the subject. But something about the way he becomes defensive makes you think there may be another reason he isn’t too keen on sharing.
“What I don’t understand is why you would turn down shore leave to serve with someone you can’t stand the sight of. That’s what I don’t understand.” You know better than to bring attention to the bantha in the room, but you figure if you addressed the animosity, he might finally tell you why he isn’t your biggest fan. The last thing you expect, though, is the defensive retaliation he exudes in response.
“Can’t stand? Who…who are you talking about?”
“Come on Captain, feigning ignorance doesn’t suit you.” You huff in frustration, not wanting to elaborate further and make this any more awkward.
“With all due respect sir, you are not making any sense.” He chuckles then, and as beautiful as the sound is, it sets your teeth on edge. How dare he see this as a laughing matter?
“It’s obvious to anyone with a pair of eyes that you find it barely tolerable to be in the same vicinity as me. So I ask again, why did you miss out on a much deserved break to be here?” Against your better judgment, you turn around and face him, not caring for anything happening outside this moment.
“What gave you the impression that I can’t stand you?” Rex stands up and takes a step up towards you, the smile on his face falling instantly when he realizes that you weren’t joking. You were being dead serious. And you definitely believed everything you just said to him.
“Oh, I don’t know, maybe the fact that anytime we’re in the same room, you find it difficult to stay for more than a few minutes before leaving. Or…or how you constantly meet each one of my tactical suggestions with an unfavorable reaction. Or the fact that you treat me like a child when I’ve clearly proven myself capable of handling any tough situation with ease. Any of these ring a bell?” You’re breathing heavily, unable to look away from him even though you wish you could be anywhere else but in front of the man that has simultaneously inspired so many mixed emotions ever since he came into your life.
“I- I’m…” He hesitates, and you almost feel bad for throwing so much at him at such an inopportune time. When his frown deepens and his eyes shift to the ground, you shake your head and return to observing the lights all around the boats. You envy the little balls of light, wishing you were one of them as they continued to flicker and not give a single care to anything happening around them.
“I am sorry…for ever making you feel all those things when they are the farthest from the truth.” His words cut through you like a long, thin needle, and you find yourself reluctantly turning around to face him once more, wanting to make sure you weren’t imagining what he just admitted.
“I hold you in the highest regard General, and if I ever push back on your commands, it’s never out of respect, but concern. Pure concern.” He swallows nervously, waiting until he has your undivided attention before continuing to confess his own doubts.
“If anything, I feel as if you’ve been actively avoiding me this entire week. With each turn, you somehow find an excuse to leave before I can join your company.” The revelation is enough to set your heart racing, and you have to shut your eyes to focus on calming yourself as you address his impression.
“I- well I just thought that I was bothering you and I figured it wouldn’t make sense if you felt limited simply because I’m around. I wanted to give you the freedom to do whatever you desired, without me standing in the way.” It’s your turn to clear the ruminating misunderstanding, and only when Rex responds shyly do you realize that you’re the source of months and months of misjudgment.
“I see.” Rex is defeated, and you wish you hadn’t brought this up while you’re in the middle of the mission because you want nothing more than to join him down in the lower deck and tell him how sorry you are for causing him to question himself.
“It seems you have every right to think me unfit to lead after all. All these assumptions lead to months of misunderstandings, all because of me.” You break the silence, trying your best to not let either of your revelations bring tears to your eyes. You fist your hands tightly to hold yourself back from doing something that might make him uncomfortable.
“Never, I’d never think that of you.” He meets your eyes instantly, shaking his head and waiting until you accept his peace offering before moving back down to the lower deck.
“I guess it’s best if we just…start fresh.” You say with a faint smile, feeling your chest collapse slowly when Rex returns the smile and nods in agreement.
“As you wish, sir.”
The night air shifts following those four simple words, and you blink a few times at Rex before returning to your place. You’re not sure how long you’re on that boat, but when the wind picks up, you hope things don’t take a turn for the worse before you catch the assassin who, up until a few minutes ago, you were convinced would have already come to you. Rex is awfully quiet and when you glance behind you, you see him holding a small ornament in his hand, the shape of which is unclear until he looks up and notices you staring at him. He shyly shows it to you, and you smile at him when you note what it is.
“Gorgeous bird, isn’t it?”
“What is it?” He gazes at the delicate ornament, its red surface shimmering with flecks of gold and crimson under the soft glow of the night sky and the lights dusted all around the boat.
“It’s a phoenix, a legendary bird that captivates whoever comes across it in the wild with its vibrant colors and remarkable life cycle.” You watch as Rex marvels at how something so small could evoke such warmth, wondering if he knows that he inspires similar feelings in you.
“It’s particularly special to the Dondrians because it’s believed to have originated on their world. Its symbolism of renewal and immortality makes it the perfect representation of what Life Day means to them.”
“What do you mean?” Gently, he turns it in his hands, unwilling to let go of it as he hangs it back where he found it, completely enchanted by its quiet beauty and whom it reminds him of.
“Well, it lives for several hundred years until it reaches a point where it builds a nest of aromatic wood and sets itself ablaze.” You can tell your words surprise him because he looks from you to the small ornament of the bird, face falling at the thought of a bird practically ending its own life.
“It…it kills itself?”
“Yes, and no. As the flames consume it, it is reborn from its own ashes, emerging more radiant and young than before. This cycle of death and rebirth represents the very idea of Life Day…of destruction coming from new life, of the importance of transformation, resilience, and hope. The way it embraces its own death and resurrection encourages others to embrace change and look forward to new beginnings.” The way in which he seems to hold on to every single word you say lights a little blaze of hope deep in your soul, and you pray to the maker that whatever change in your relationship lasts long after tonight comes to an end. Rex nods in understanding, trailing his fingers across the glass bird before switching his attention to similar ornaments hanging all around the two of you.
“They say any representation of the phoenix is supposedly enchanted.” You don’t want the conversation to end, and your smile widens when you see how suddenly interested Rex is in the bird’s mythology.
“Enchanted?”
“Hmm. If you hold that ornament in your hand and wish for anything…anything in this universe, it will fall right into your lap soon after and mark the beginning of a new chapter.” Not even a second later, Rex is taking the phoenix in his hand once more, shutting his eyes and murmuring something to himself. You watch with fascination how utterly captivated he is by the sentiment, and you wonder what he could possibly wish for so quickly. When his eyes flutter open and he finds you already staring at him, he puts the ornament down and stands up, his facial expression turning a lot more serious than a moment ago.
“Sir, I-” “Heads up, someone’s coming.” Anakin cuts him off and you curse the timing of your guest’s arrival. You shut the comm link off completely, mouthing a quick apology to Rex as he moves out of sight while preparing his blaster. You face away from the sound of the approaching boat and pretend to flinch as soon as you hear a loud crashing sound signal the arrival of your wanted man.
“You’re dumber than they told me, more conceited too.” The accent is not lost on you, and you file that little bit of information for later. The wind howls across the water, and you begin to move but hear a warning that prevents you from facing the assassin.
“Ah ahh, turn around slowly.” You hold your hands up as you obey the command, no longer bothering to hide yourself as you fully face him. His breath, a lot calmer than now, comes in short, panicked bursts. His expression falls completely, and you can tell you were the last person he was expecting to see from the fearful air about him.
“You? Where…where is the Prince?” The smirk you could hear before no longer tugs at his lips, his tone more taunting than now that he knew his mission is not possible.
“Like you said, it would have been extremely absurd if we allowed him to come out here by himself.” His eyes widen in horror, and you tilt your head slightly, hesitating to say more when his figure trembles at the mere sight of you.
“You’re a Jedi! You’re the one who saved him.”
“Don’t try anything, you’re surrounded and it won’t be easy to escape.” You reply coolly, gaze sharp and unwavering as recognition flashes across his face.
“This doesn’t have to end badly. Tell me who hired you.” You raise your hand slightly, a subtle warning that you hope he would take to heart and not test. His shoulders sag at the dangerous lilt in your voice, his breathing growing more erratic at the thought of being your captive.
“I- I can’t.” Sweat glistens on his brow as you meet his aggression with an eerie calmness.
“We can help you, please.” Your voice is softer now, still firm but not as menacing as before. Taking a step closer to him, you try to impose some sense of tranquility, but his jaws only tighten, his gaze farting around the empty lake in an attempt to find an answer to his predicament.
“No, you can’t. No one can…if I don’t kill the Prince, he’ll kill me.” His voice cracks, and you watch as his eyes glisten with something between terror and acceptance of what will surely happen now that he failed in his mission.
“Who?” Your question is followed by a panicked raising of the blaster to your head, and before you can give him another warning glance, you hear Rex ascend behind you, blaster aimed at the man’s head and fingers ready to pull the trigger.
“Don’t even think about it.” Rex’s tone adds fuel to the fire, the tension rippling along with the waves hitting the hull of the ship.
“Stand down Captain.” You turn your gaze to Rex, not wanting him to make matters worse.
“I can’t do that sir.” Rex’s voice is tight, and he doesn’t bother meeting your eyes, knowing that if he were to look at you, the man in front of him might take the distraction as an advantage.
“He’ll kill me, he’ll kill all of us.” The words tumble out in a frenzy, making you fist your hands tightly in discomfort. You ignore Rex for the time being, slowly stepping towards the assailant to try and calm him down once more.
“Just tell me who he is and I will make sure you’re safe.” Your voice cuts through the hysteria for a second, and you think you can manage to make him put the blaster down without controlling him, but then he whisks the blaster away from you and towards Rex, the reaction instantly making you see red.
“No, you’re all dead. We’re all dead.”
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you. This conversation is between you and me, not him.” Your tone drops, no longer friendly or soothing, but searing with displeasure at the sudden change of events.
“I’m warning you, this doesn’t have to turn ugly.” You try one last time to make him put the blaster down, but sensing the shift in his demeanor, you light your lightsaber just as he shakes his head in madness and readies the blaster. There’s something strange about the way he continues to look up at the lightning shining across the sky, and you follow his line of sight to see if someone is approaching. His panicked movement increases as the crashing sound of thunder increases, and you narrow your eyes at him, unsure of why he was reacting so drastically to the weather. You find yourself lacking sympathy for him, not because of what he’s done, but because of what you see he’s about to do.
“It’s done, we’re- we’re all d-”
You don’t let him finish, sending your lightsaber straight into his chest before dragging it back to your hands. Neither you nor Rex say anything for a moment, and only when you feel the boat rock violently do you finally snap out of the momentary haze you’re in and tell Rex to hold onto something.
“Pfassk, we need to get back to shore before this storm drowns us.” You’re afraid to look at Rex, unsure of what you’d find swimming in his eyes, if he’s disappointed, shocked or simply disturbed by how easily you took the man’s life. You reach out to the lake bank, focusing on bringing the sail closer to dry land as quickly as possible out of fear of putting Rex’s life and your own in any more danger. It takes longer than you like, but as soon as you reach Anakin, you exit the boat and remove your cloak, quickly handing it over to Rex before asking the others to drag the dead body away.
“What happened?”
“He was manic…violent.” Rex answers Anakin’s question when you remain quiet, and as Anakin tries to learn anything from the soulless body, you stop pacing behind him and apply pressure to your side, the lack of adrenaline making way for a familiar, stabbing pain.
“This fucking weather happened. He- maker, he would have listened to me. He would have, but the lightning terrified him. It was almost as if he thought it was after him.”
“So you killed him?” Anakin holds his hands up in question, not understanding why you changed your mind when you were the one who told him why you had to be on that boat, and not him.
“No, I killed him because he aimed his blaster the wrong way.” Your voice is almost unrecognizable to you, and you watch as your old friend shrugs his shoulders before telling his men to take away the body.
“We need to leave, or else we’ll get caught in this storm.” You remind them one last time, waiting until they start moving before turning around and looking to gauge Rex’s reaction to this whole ordeal.
“Tell the Prince they can resume their festivities tonight if they wish. Assuming this doesn’t turn into a blizzard.” You tell Anakin, who nods in agreement and sprints ahead, not wanting to waste any more time outside now that the problem was “solved.”
“You don’t think there’ll be another?” Rex asks and you shake your head instantly, elaborating on why you think there isn’t another assassin running around.
“No, whoever is behind this wouldn’t take the chance. One wouldn’t talk, two is too high a probability.” You meet his eyes for longer than you deem appropriate, and when he looks away first, you study your surroundings before heading behind Anakin, towards the royal palace.
“Where are you going?”
“Back to my room, I think diplomacy can wait till tomorrow. Good night Captain.” You don’t bother turning around as you respond to him, knowing that you won’t be able to hold back from apologizing for your actions if you see an unfavorable expression aimed at you.
An oddly familiar warmth engulfs you the farther you walk away from Rex, and it’s only when you’re back in your room that you realize what that sensation is. You’re confused as to how you could possibly be receptive to Rex’s feelings, but it occurs to you that you may be feeling a fraction of his own emotions simply because he’s allowing you to. Of course it may be unintentional on his side, but be that as it may, a part of him is so in tune with you that the Force decided to connect you to each other, or at least, make you respond to him on a much deeper level than you ever thought possible.
You stand in the middle of your quarters, recalling every single word you’ve exchanged with Rex during the past rotation. As upset as you are with how certain things turned out, you come to appreciate them all, especially the fact that the two of you were sent on this mission together. You were finding the Life Day Celebrations extremely difficult to enjoy because of your relationship with the Captain, but if anything was proven in the past few hours, it’s that the time of year was truly on your side.
You make your way to the refresher and find the bacta patch Kix gave you earlier, sighing irritatingly when you realize you forgot to change it. You strip off your clothes and stand in front of the mirror, biting into your cheek as you remove the bacta patch and throw it away. You find the wound almost healed, and you thank the maker you wouldn’t have to deal with it for a longer period. Letting it breathe for a few seconds, you walk around and turn on the hot water, wanting to bathe in a nice, warm bath before whatever you will have to do tomorrow. You move back to the mirror and unsheath the replacement patch, slowly applying it on your skin, and shivering when the cold chemicals make contact with the wound and the skin surrounding it.
Unbeknownst to you, Rex has debriefed with Anakin and was already heading your way, wanting to make sure that you made it back safely and weren’t in need of anything. He hesitates for a long moment before knocking softly on your door several times, and when he doesn’t hear a response, he unlocks the door and walks in, taking in the small space before calling out for you again. He frowns at the lack of response, knowing that you were in much need of a good night rest. The room is dim, illuminated only by the light filtering through the windows behind the bed. Thinking that you didn’t make it back yet, he’s about to exit when he hears your groans echo through the refresher.
“Sir?” Rex tries, and when your whines only grow louder, he takes out his blaster and readies himself for whatever threat is in the refresher with you. The muffled sounds only grow, and he’s alarmed at the prospect of what he might find when he barges in. Taking calculated steps across the room, he finds the door to the refresher slightly ajar, and as soon as the quiet moan of discomfort reverberates in his ears, he takes two quick strides and pushes the door open, scanning the room in an attempt to find the source of your pained grunts. When he sees you standing half-naked in the middle of the refresher, with your hands massaging the skin around the wound, he lowers his blaster and shuts his eyes, cursing at his lack of sensibility.
“Ahh kriffing hells. Oh maker, I- I’m sorry General. I thought that you were harmed and- pfassk.” Rex stammers through an apology, his face growing heated at catching you in such a vulnerable state. The tub beside you is half-full, and Rex feels his armor tightening around his crotch, images of you moaning in ecstasy as the water relieved all of your pain making him wish he was anywhere else but here.
“That’s okay Rex,” you cut him off when you see his face burning with embarrassment, and you do your best to not dwell on the heat from before suddenly wrapping around you like a tight, weighted blanket. It’s endearing how shy he is being with you, and you’re about to giggle at his overreaction when you turn around and find his eyes set on you. There’s a different expression on his handsome features now, and you tilt your head to the side in confusion, unsure of why he was looking at you in such an intimate way.
“What?” You decide to ask, knowing that things couldn’t possibly get any more awkward than they already have.
“I’ve never heard you say my name before.” The comment throws you off guard, and you look around the foggy room, hoping to find a response written somewhere. You meet his gaze again, and notice his body language relax, as if the sound of his name on your lips was all he needed to hear to grow more comfortable with you.
“That can’t be true.” You know he’s not wrong, but you are also aware that you’ve called his name about a thousand times in the privacy of your room. You’ve called his name more often than you care to admit, but he had no way of knowing that, not when, up until a few hours ago, he genuinely thought you disliked him.
“Believe me, I would remember it if you did.” He chuckles at you, the sound far from humorous and fully self-deprecating. There’s nothing comforting you can say to him, and you rub your temples to alleviate the sudden throbbing ache circling around your head. When he doesn’t move, you walk across the room to shut off the running water, distracting yourself from the predicament you now found yourself in.
“Is there something you needed, Captain? I’m not exactly dressed for a debriefing but we’ll have to make do.” You stand up and motion around the room, wanting to get this over with so you can drown in self-pity when you’re left alone.
“No General, I only wanted to- well, I came here to see if…” He’s tripping over his words, and it would be endearing if it weren’t for the fact that he just indirectly admitted to you what he felt when you called his name.
“I know I’m not exactly being professional here but, since when do you get so tongue-tied around me?” You test the waters against your better judgement, wanting to see how far you can take this before one of you cracks. Rex shakes his head in defeat, and you realize that there’s no point in taking this any further, not when the man in front of you refused to cross the professional boundaries setting you apart. You couldn’t blame him.
“Okay, here’s the thing Rex. I am freezing cold, and from what I’ve heard, the water won’t stay heated for a long time, especially during this weather. So until you decide what you want to do here, I will be getting in.” You take your slippers off and take a few steps around the tub, completely missing the puddle that collected from the flowing water.
“CAReful!” Rex is behind you in the blink of an eye, arms caging you against his chest to prevent you from slipping and hurting yourself. You grab onto his arms to right yourself but the floor is too wet, and you find yourself awfully closer to him than a second ago. You meet his gaze and are suddenly mesmerized by the hazel green of his eyes, the ones you can barely see around his dilated pupils.
“Kriff, that would have been a really bad fall. Thank you.” Your attempt at a joke is met with a serious expression, and you drop the smile when Rex slowly steps away from the slippery floor to help you stand up. He lets go of you as soon as you stand up, and you find yourself a little hurt at how quickly he wants to step away from you.
“For a Jedi, your reflexes sure are slow.” The comment is far from insulting, meant to diffuse the tension rising due to the circumstances, but for some reason, your mind decides to make things worse and respond with a statement that is far from harmless.
“I guess we’re even now.” Rex’s expression falls as he continues staring at you, and he doesn’t dare say anything in return as he walks around you and makes his way out of the refresher. Something in the way he seems to be genuinely hurt by your comment makes you run after him and pull his arm to prevent him from leaving. He stops but doesn’t face you, and you suspect it may be because he is angry with how you make light of such a crucial moment.
“I- I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. Please don’t- don’t be mad at me. I know we barely resolved our misunderstanding but I- I just… just don’t leave.” Your voice cracks as you practically beg him to stay, and only when he takes a deep breath and relaxes his shoulders slightly do you finally let go of him.
“You think I’m angry with you?” He turns around slowly and frowns at you, questioning your apology in a way that makes you think you were completely in the wrong.
“Aren’t you?” You nervously play with your fingers, looking away from him when you can’t bear the scrutiny of his hurt impression any longer.
“No, maker no. I have never once, in my life, felt anything other than respect for you.” He reaches out for you, placing both of his hands on your shoulders to make sure you are listening to every word he’s saying.
“Oh,” unfortunately for Rex, you misunderstand his confession and sag your shoulders in disappointment. Of course he wouldn’t feel anything more for you. Why would he? You’ve given him no reason to feel a fraction of what you’ve felt for him for so long.
“I am not angry with you, mesh’la. I am angry at the prospect of you thinking my life is more important than yours, at you forgoing your principles just to save me.” Rex sees the way you shift uncomfortably, the weight of his words settling heavily between you. His gaze is steady, and you can’t help but return it when you see the fierce protectiveness he’s exuding, one you had not expected to encounter in such an intimate setting.
“You- you jumped in harm’s way to save me, not even thinking of your own well-being. And later…on the boat, I saw the way you changed when he aimed his blaster at me.” He clarifies further, the revelation sending goosebumps down your arms and forcing you to step closer to him. You furrow your eyebrows at the implication behind his words, placing your hands on his chest without caring for any repercussions.
“Of course I did, what else would you expect me to do?”
“Not sacrifice yourself for someone like me.” His answer comes in heated, and the level of hurt you feel rising in your throat makes you push him away from you.
“What do you mean ‘someone like you’?” You snap at him, shaking your head in disbelief at what you’re hearing from him of all people.
“I’m not as important as you are. I’m replaceable.” Rex must not expect such a reaction because he steps towards you right away, grabbing both of your wrists to speak words that he doesn’t realize hurt you more than him.
“You- you think your life isn’t worth mine? Why…why would you even say that Rex? What makes you think you can even believe something so far from the truth?” Tears well up in your eyes as you look at him, voice trembling with emotion at the thought of Rex believing something absolutely false. He hesitates for a moment, struggling to find the right words as you melt into his arms.
“Because I’m that one that should protect you. I should be the one making sure you’re safe.” He finally replies, his voice barely louder than a whisper. Again, it must not be the right thing to say because you only get more annoyed, fisting your hands and slightly pushing on his chest to keep his attention.
“I hate to break it to you but that’s a two-way road, Rex. If I had to, I would do it again.” You say matter of factly, wanting him to fully understand that you don’t see yourself as any more important than him.
“Why?” He lets go of your shoulders and slides his hands down your arms, enveloping your fists in the palms of his hands.
“Because I- I’m your…” His grip tightens around you as you struggle to tell him what you feel for him. You avoid his eyes but he tugs you into his chest and makes sure you’re looking at him before he interrupts you.
“What? You’re my General? You want me to believe you’re willing to die for me, or even change your own rules because you’re my superior?”
“N-no…it’s not just that.” You shake your head, knowing that you should tell him the truth regardless of how difficult it can be for you.
“Then tell me.” He begs softly, leaning into you until he touches his forehead with your own. The warmth of his skin sets you on fire, making you wish you could just confess to him and deal with the consequences later.
“Tell me why you’d risk your life for mine.” Rex’s eyes soften as he shuts them completely, and if you weren’t so held up on whether his feelings were mutual or not, you would have understood what he was trying to tell you through the intimate gesture.
“I can’t.”
“Tell me cyar’ika.”
“Rex, I-”
“Tell me me’suum’ika…please.” He cuts you off then, his pleading storming your heart with waves of emotions so overwhelming that you have no choice but to give him what he wants.
“Because if anything were to happen to you, my life will be over.” You admit, voice shaking with fear and relief at finally letting go of the secret you’ve held onto for months.
“Mesh’la,” the word is whispered with a warmth and gentleness that shake you to your core, and you finally open your eyes to look at him, finding nothing but adoration and tenderness staring right back at you.
“Rex.”
“I can’t protect you tonight.” His gaze is…it’s more intense than you’ve ever seen, but it’s unwavering as it descends to your lips and refuses to attend to anything else.
“Hmm?” You’re confused by his choice in words, caught even more off guard by the weight of them as you try to make sense of what he wants to tell you.
“I said…I can’t protect you tonight.” His voice is low, almost strained, sending you spiraling down into an abyss of an unquenchable fire.
“W-why?” Your throat tightens, brows furrowing at the way Rex struggles with what to say in response.
“Because every second I spend near you, not being able to touch you, or kiss you, or whisper how kriffing badly I have it for you is torture. It’s absolute torture. And now that I am here, with you looking so lovely, so- so…irresistible, telling me what I am to you, I can’t hold back any longer.” He exhales sharply, hands moving from your hands to your neck for a brief moment before you feel them wrap around you and pull you flush against his chest.
“Then don’t.” The air between you cackles with tension, and Rex’s breath hitches at the raw, pleading tone you grace him with.
“If you let me taste your lips, know that I will never let you go.” He’s gathering the strength to speak, and when his eyes burn with an intensity that steals your breath away, it occurs to you that he’s barely holding himself back from you.
“Rex?” He looks at you then, committing every curve of your face to memory as you call for him again, his heart stuttering at the raw vulnerability mirrored in your own pupils.
“Please kiss me.” His answer doesn’t come in words, but in the way he shuts his eyes as he closes the distance between the two of you. His fingers tangle in the hair at the nape of your neck, his lips meeting yours in a kiss that feels like a breaking storm—wild, unrelenting, and long overdue. You had expected him to be timid, gentle even, but the untamed way in which he instantly swallows your moans makes your knees weak, and you have to wrap your arms around his neck to prevent yourself from falling to the ground.
You’re not sure who is more desperate, you or Rex, but as the kiss becomes more heated, you feel as if your lungs will collapse from the sheer need and surrender moving between the two of you. And as his hand cups the side of your face, you tremble at the sensation of his thumb as it traces your jaw until he tilts your head to the side.
“Ohh g-gods,” you break the kiss for a fraction of a second, but Rex is unrelenting, claiming your mouth fully and moving his lips over yours until every inch of your skin comes alive with fire. You’re urgent in your touches as well, afraid that he will let go any moment and you realize this is all just a dream. But the more he consumes your skin, the quicker your heartbeat thunders against your chest and you press yourself closer to him in an attempt to ground yourself.
When he does finally let go, your breath comes in short, shaky gasps, but there’s no time to collect yourself. His lips descend down your neck, and you throw your head back, pleasure coursing through your veins so quickly that you have to muffle your mouth to hold back from screaming his name. The small gesture doesn’t go unnoticed by Rex and he pulls back far enough to catch your attention, waiting until you’re blinking confusingly at him before he returns to your neck.
“No, you don’t hide your noises from me. You have no idea how many nights I spent imagining you in my arms…moaning for me, begging me to touch you and pull every ounce of pleasure from your body.” He leaves a searing trail of fire with each wet kiss, his teeth grazing your sensitive skin and biting down harshly when you moan in return.
“But what if Anakin-” He growls at the mention of his friend’s name, his chest tightening at the sound of another man’s name on your lips. His hand trails down your neck to your waist, squeezing you tightly as he slides his tongue down your sternum and coaxes more sounds from you the lower he goes. Rex looks up briefly, smirking with pride when he sees how disoriented you’ve become from such simple touches.
“I don’t care, let him hear. Let them all hear, I want everyone on this planet to know who’s making you feel good. Do you understand me…General?” His confession burns through you, and he zeroes in on the pulse thundering against your neck, biting down harshly as his heart tingles with each moan you sing to him. The way he says your title, so possessive and crazes, sends a fresh wave of desire through you, and you have to fight not to crumble entirely beneath his touches.
“F-fuck, yes…yes Captain. I- whatever you want.” You gasp, voice breaking as you feel yourself sinking against him. You grip at his shoulders for some semblance of stability, the cool edge of his armor digging into your arms and reminding you how naked you are.
“Come here,” his tone is commanding, full of raw desire, and you shiver at the power behind it, swearing beneath your breath when he leans down and slides his hands firmly around your lower back.
“But the water-” You giggle at how quickly he moves from the refresher to the bedroom, and you feel yourself growing wet at how easily he picks you up.
“You don’t need the water to keep you warm.” Rex shakes his head, leaning down and giving you a quick peck on the lips before settling you down on your sheets.
“No?” You tease, lower lip trapped between your teeth as you try to hold back from snickering at what he’s making you feel.
“No baby, that’s what I’m here for.” he murmurs, leaning in close until he cages you between his arms. The bed dips beneath him, and you feel your heart racing at finally having your dreams come true. His eyes barely have any color left in them, and you squeeze your thighs together, excited at being the reason behind such a visceral reaction.
“And exactly how will you w-warm me up?” You trail your hand down up his neck, tracing his cheeks softly and shivering when you feel the rough stubble of his jaw kiss your palms.
“Wouldn’t you like to know?” Rex chuckles, the sound vibrating through the quiet air of the room and making you even more nervous. He draws deliberate circles against your breasts, watching with bated breath as your eyes shut instantly.
“Yes…oh kriff, please Rex. Tell me…tell me.” The need you display to him nearly makes him choke. Never in his life did he think he’d have such an effect on you, but he doesn’t question it, instead giving you more so he can hear what he does to you.
“Let’s see,” Rex leans closer, lips brushing against the shell of your ear as he speaks with a sinful whisper, “I’ll start off by kissing down your body.”
“Hmm,” the image alone leaves you breathless, and you tilt your head to the side to give him better access to your neck, not caring for how loud you’re getting as your moans turn into long sighs.
“And while you moan at feeling my hands trace your soft skin, I’ll…pull away.” His words trail off, and he suddenly pulls back completely, creating a rift between you that has you sitting up quickly and grabbing his kama to prevent him from getting off the bed.
“N-no don’t,” you plead desperately, refusing to let go of him as he returns to your side and kisses your forehead.
“Shhh, don’t worry mesh’la. I’m not going anywhere.” He catches your wrists, pressing them against his chest to still you before slowly standing up again. He doesn’t break your gaze, and he waits until you relax to begin taking off his armor. You swallow the lump in your throat when you finally register what he just called you, and your breathe trembles as you nod in agreement,
“But for me to show you how much I crave you, I need to remove all of this.” The promise in his voice makes you wish he could put you out of your misery and take you then and there. But you know better than to distract him.
“Rex,” you whine his name like a prayer, unable to hide how much you want him.
“I know sweetheart, I know. But it’s all part of the plan, how else will I keep you running…hot for me.”
“Force help me,” your head falls back as a groan slips past your lips, and you don’t notice where your hand descends until you feel Rex slipping his fingers around your wrist and shoving your arm away from your heated core.
“You can call out all you want, little Jedi, but the only one here is me…so you better put my name to good use.” Rex leans in close again, hovering just above your body as he taunts you with promises. His voice is a delicious growl, one that has you shaking with anticipation and pulling another moan from your throat.
“Rex…”
“Better,” the satisfaction in his eyes is unmistakable, and he brushes his lips against yours in a featherlight kiss that leaves you chasing after him when he pulls away to strip.
“Please Rex, I need you.” You beg sweetly, the words spilling out before you can stop them. You should be embarrassed by how wanton you sound, but you find that you couldn’t care any less, the need to have Rex settle between your thighs outgrowing any shame you have.
“I thought you needed to hear what I want to do to you?” His expression is dark and unreadable as he places his armor on the floor. He stands in nothing but the black body glove he wears beneath his armor, and you’re overwhelmed by how much you can see of him that you shut your eyes and throw your head back. Rex uses the momentary distraction to his advantage, sliding his eyes down your body to sketch a mental image of you in case he never gets to do this again. When he’s had his fair share of you, he removes the rest of his clothes until he’s not wearing anything.
“Look at me cyar’ika,” he commands, his tone leaving no room for argument. When you obey and open your eyes, the air leaves your lungs dramatically, your mind unable to accept the fact that he’s more naked than you are, that you’re finally, finally, seeing all of him.
“You- you’re torturing me.” You’re shaking with lust, praying to the Force that Rex decides to lose control and take what he wants.
“Is that right?” His lips curl into a knowing smirk, the ghost of a laugh escaping him and making you flush embarrassingly as he moves on top of you. “Oh…maker,” there is no hesitation in his movements, just a careful balance of control and desperate need. Rex holds you tightly in his arms and kisses you until neither of you can breathe. You think he might break you and for a brief moment, you want him to, if only so he could know how much you belong to him. You arch your back into him, trying to adjust to the overwhelming sensation of having his skin slide against yours.
“Am I pleasing to you?” Rex lets go and wraps his hand around your neck, not firmly, but just to have you look at him. The muscles of his jaw flexes as he watches you lose control, his voice reverent as he practically begs for you to answer him.
“You have no idea,” your fingers curl into his shoulders, nails digging into his skin as you try to somehow bring him even closer to you.
“I think I have some id-” he smiles faintly, dipping down to kiss along your collarbone before moving further down your body. His words are cut off by a groan when he feels you scratch his head. He can feel every inch of you growing hotter beneath his touch, and he doesn’t hold back any longer, not caring for how aggressive he’s being as he slips two fingers beneath your panties and tugs violently until they rip in his hands. You squeal suddenly, partly shocked by the reaction, but mostly turned on by how much he craves you. Before you can even register what he’s doing, Rex is shoving your thighs apart and kissing your inner thighs, the scent of your cunt hitting his nostrils and making him growl, the sound rumbling from his chest and setting you on fire.
“Fuck mesh’la, you say I’m torturing you but the taste of you makes me…it- hmmm, kriff.” The gutteral sound sends heat pooling in your core, and you find yourself clinging to him even harder as you feel this lips ghost against the outer lips of your pussy.
“Rex,” you whimper, his name slipping from your lips as though it was the only word you knew.
“I know I begged you to call my name, but…if you keep moaning it so shamelessly, this night will come to an end a lot quicker.” Rex stills suddenly, looking up at you with wild eyes, his control hanging by an extremely thin thread.
“I- I don’t care Rex, I want you…I just want you, please.” You plead over and over again, trying your best to pull him up so he can forgo whatever he had in mind for you and just fuck you then and there.
“But I need to get you- oh, Force help me.” He moves up your body, pressing his forehead against yours and tripping over his words when he feels you wrap your hands around his hard cock.
“I’m already so wet for you baby, please…take me.” You whisper, desperation dripping from every word you pray to him. He’s heavy in the palm of your hand, hot and hard to the touch, and you wonder if this is how it will always be with him. You pray it is.
Maker, please.
“You should know, I need you so desperately that I- I may not be able to hold back.” His breathing grows ragged, the restraint unraveling rapidly the more you slide and squeeze his dick. He shuts his eyes and fists the sheets beneath you, and you can’t help but lean forward and kiss his jaw softly, licking down his throat and biting into the skin between his neck and his shoulder when he sinks against you.
Smiling at how easily you can bring his guards down, you pull him closer until your lips brush his ear, whispering the one sentiment you’ve thought of ever since you met him.
“Rex, I want you to fuck me like you hate me.”
“Oh, me’suum’ika, I don’t want to do that.” His head snaps up, eyes narrowing as he stares down at you with a tenderness that melts you. Rex presses his nose to your temple, sighing your name over and over again until you let go of him and bring him down for a kiss. He pushes you harder into the bed, slipping his hand behind your back to undo your chest band before throwing it behind him. You break the kiss to look at him, and Rex is sure he’s never seen a more beautiful sight in his entire life.
“I want to fuck you like I can’t breathe without you. I want to fuck you like I can’t get the thought of you out of my head…I want to fuck you like you’re mine, and I’m yours.”
Your heart swells at the raw, needy emotion in his words, and your hands slips into his hair, scratching it softly and smiling with tears in your eyes when he leans into the touch and groans in return.
“I am, I’ve been yours Rex. Only yours.”
“Shit, you’re going to be the death of me baby.” Rex exhales shakily, attacking your chest with more kisses and waiting until he hears you call for him again before taking a nipple in between his teeth. You arch your back against him, opening your thighs so he can settle better against you before crossing your legs behind his back. As soon as you feel his cock tease at your entrance, a wave of shameless desire seeps through your body and you feel your cunt throb in pain at having him so close.
“I- ohhh gods, I can’t wait any longer Rex.” You squirm beneath him, the action sliding his cock against you and making him bite your sensitive bud in return. “But…you deserve to be loved cyare. Slowly, deeply, passionately.” He wants nothing more than to push his cock into your pussy, but he waits, wanting to make sure that you’re ready for him so he doesn’t hurt you.
“We can d-do that later, however long you want…whenever you like. But I need to feel you inside me, now.” You shake your head, voice desperate and lust-filled. He studies you for a brief moment, and when he finds nothing but a needy truth swimming in your eyes, he pushes away and leans back to get a better look at you. His eyes zero in on your cunt, and his cock twitches at finally having you naked and willing beneath him.
“Spread your legs wide for me, and if it’s too much…if I’m too much, tell me.” Rex swallows hard, his eyes softening before darkening once more. You nod quickly, watching him as he takes hold of his cock and slides it across your cunt to spread your juices on him. The gesture is so filthy, and if it were any other man, you would have found it off-putting. But this was Rex, and you had only imagined him fucking you about a thousand times.
“R-rex,” you gasp as he slowly pushes into you, the sensation both overwhelming and mind-bending. Rex can’t take his eyes off of where you’re connected, and his breathing picks up when he begins to feel you clench around him, his cock sliding with ease from how wet you are. He can’t believe that he barely touched you and you were so ready for him, but he pushes the thought aside, wanting to relish every second he’s allowed to be inside you.
“Ah f-fuck, you’re…you’re so warm, so kriffing warm and tight.” He curses softly, his head falling back briefly before his eyes return to your cunt once more.
“I want to feel all of you Rex,” you run your hands over his arms, feeling the tense muscles shift with every movement. You silently wish that he falls against you so you can feel his body atop yours, and it must be evident in the way your eyes trail up and down his body because he slowly pushes himself on top of you, his cock sinking deeper into you as he shifts closer.
“Sweet girl, my beautiful jetii’ika.” Rex looks down at you, his eyes filled with awe and reverence, and something that should terrify you but instead makes you feel warm and cherished.
“You’re s-so deep inside me Rex, I feel…full.” Your voice hitches as he continues to push his dick inside you until he’s fully seated deep in your cunt. You bite into your fingers but Rex shakes his head, reminding you of his warning from earlier.
“Remember, your sounds are mine tonight. I want to hear everything that I do to you.” He grits his teeth, hands digging into your hips as he forces you to let go of your fingers and call his name.
“I love being this close to you... it’s perfect.” You confess, barely managing to string together a coherent thought as you feel him throbbing inside you.
“God, you feel so tight around me…” He wants to pull back and thrust inside you, but he holds back out of fear of hurting you. It’s only when he feels you wrap your legs around him and force him to move that he understands what you want from him. He pulls out until the crown of his cock is seated perfectly in between your pussy lips, and as soon as you moan for him, he thrusts back inside, the sensation sending his mind in a frenzy and nearly making him fuck you into oblivion. Rex stops for a moment, wanting to keep himself in check so he doesn’t terrify you by how much he craves you.
“Mmm, and you feel so big, so fucking hard and big. Move, Rex…please.” You throw your head to the side, biting into his wrist and whining in ecstasy when he obeys you and slowly snaps his hips against you.
“You’re so wet for me already and I haven’t even fucked you yet.” He mutters beneath his breath, licking and sucking on your neck as he continues to shove his cock inside you, suddenly feeling dizzy at how perfect you feel around him. What he doesn’t expect is for you to chuckle in response and meet his gaze in an intense gaze, parting your lips and answering him with another, lust-filled confession.
“That’s because I- hmmm, I’ve imagined you fucking me every night since we met, and- and now that I’m here, in your arms-” You gasp at a particularly hard thrust, digging your nails into Rex’s back and smiling when you see his features turn into a mixture of pain and pleasure.
“Tell me baby,” he coaxes, his voice rough with desire as he continues to fuck you passionately.
“Nothing compares to h-how you fill me up, Rex.” You confess, shaking at how perfectly Rex feels inside of you, cock hard and hot as it slides against your tight walls.
“You have no idea mesh’la,” you can tell his control is slipping further, and you wonder what it would take for him to lose all control and take you as you desire.
“I can- can feel how much you want this.” He leans down and swallows your moans, slipping his tongue inside of you and claiming your mouth while his cock claims your cunt.
“Yes... don’t stop. Go deeper, just like that.” You wrap your arms around him, breathing heavily against his ears as you feel him push into you with a pace that’s nearly blinding.
“You’re taking me so well, baby. This cunt was made for me, perfect fucking pussy. I can spend hours between your legs.” Rex’s voice comes out heavy, and he reaches down to place his arm around one of your thighs so he can push it higher and come closer against you.
“Please, harder…fuck me harder Captain.” You cry out, overwhelmed by the sensations Rex continues to rip from your body.
“Whatever you want to make you lose control, General.” Rex groans in return, his pace brutal and unrelenting as he feels his stomach begin to tighten. The sound of skin meeting skin echoes through the room, a frenzied beat that matches the pounding in his heart, he suspects, yours as well. He pulls back just enough to look at you, and when he finds you biting your lower lip to contain yourself, he slams harder into you until he has your attention.
“Look at me while I’m inside you... let me see how much you love this.” He demands assertively, eyes searching your own he feels sweat drip from his brow. There is a thick haze of lust clouding the room, and before you can even answer him, he thrusts harder, deeper, inside you, forcing your body to react in ways he only dreamt of. “Rex…I- I’m, I’m yours... all yours.” You acknowledge him without even thinking, the need dripping from your words matching the same one you can see storming in his eyes.
“You have all of me cyare, my heart, my soul…my everything.” Your confession drives him mad, and the look of pure ecstasy etching on your features sends him reeling, his body trembling as you cling on to him while he pushes you closer to the edge. You sob with pleasure as his movements pick up, his words igniting something primal inside of you.
“That’s it, baby. I can feel you getting closer. Don’t hold back—let go for me. Come for me. I want to feel you squeeze me..fall apart for me.” The possessiveness radiating off of him in waves should terrify you, but instead, you tighten your legs around his waist, pulling him impossibly closer to you so you can feel every inch of him as he coats your walls with his seed. The tension in your body is palpable, every nerve lit up like a wildfire as you approach that inevitable release. Rex must feel it too because he sinks into the crook of your neck, breathing in the scent of your sweat and something sweet that he might never forget.
“I’m so close... oh fuck, I’m going to come!” You cry against him, voice breaking as your body teeters on the brink of bliss.
“Fuck- I…I can’t. I need to-” His rhythm begins to stutter, his breathing becoming heavier and more erratic as he fights to hold on until he feels you come on his cock. Rex’s grip on you tightens, his fingertips pressing into your skin as if he’s trying to anchor himself to reality, to the gift the universe has handed him after so long.
“Don’t hold back, Rex. I want you to come for me, come inside me. I want to feel you…want to take you so deep, fill me up. Please…p-please Rex,” you plead, clawing at his back as you show him that you need him just as desperately. Hearing you beg for him to fill you with his cum shatters the last of his resolve, his pace faltering as he buries himself inside you to the hilt. A guttural groan tears from his throat as he finally lets go, the pleasure crashing over him overtaking him just as it engulfs your body. He feels you tighten around him, your body convulsing so violently that he can’t figure out whether it’s you who’s crying in pleasure or him.
You’re completely spent, your pussy throbbing harshly as you feel Rex shoot long, hot spurts of his seed deep inside you. It shouldn’t please you so much, but knowing that you have him reach places inside you that no one else will make the pleasure all the more intense, and you twist your head until you can kiss along his neck, silently letting him know that you will never belong to anyone else but him.
He collapses over you then, supporting himself on his forearms so he doesn’t suffocate you. His head is still buried in your neck as you both gasp for air, body trembling slightly as he presses soft kisses to your skin in return. His lips linger over your pulse point where he can feel your heartbeat racing as quickly as his own. Rex lifts his head until he meets your eyes, his own brimming with affection as he smiles at you and nudges your nose with his.
“Baby, you’re everything to me.”
“Rex, I…I think I-” you start, voice quiet and uncertain, afraid that once you tell him what you feel, you will lose it all…lose him.
“I know. Cyare, I know.” He murmurs gently, his hand cradling your face as he leans down and kissing you slowly until you feel nothing but warmth and understanding.
And in that moment, you have no doubt that something deeper than words binds the two of you, something that no one will ever be able to take away from you.
Against his wishes, Rex pulls out of you with a groan, biting into his lower lip when he hears you whine with contention. You don’t let him go too far, sliding against his side and nuzzling into his chest as he pulls the covers above the two of you.
A comfortable silence fills the air and after a while, you look up to find Rex meditating deeply, his attention focused on the ceiling high above you.
“What are you thinking about?” You ask, fingers moving up and down his chest in a soothing way.
“I’m thinking of what will happen tomorrow now that you won’t be keeping your distance anymore.” He means it as a joke, but when he looks down and sees your hurt expression, he drops the smile and leans over to kiss you, letting you know that he meant no harm by the comment and was just teasing you.
“Rex, I’ll do whatever you want to do going forward. If you want me to act as if nothing has changed, I’ll do that. And if you want to tell your brothers, it would make me feel so happy…and- and if you want me to leave the Order, give up everything…I will gladly do so without a second thought.” Rex’s expression shifts, his brow furrowed beneath the shadow of his close-cropped hair. He looks at you like he’s trying to make sense of your words, trying to fit them into the reality he had come to know in the past rotation.
“You- you would leave the Jedi for me?” His voice is rough with disbelief, and for a moment, he is genuinely convinced he has misheard you. The idea that someone like you— strong, steadfast, bound by your sworn duty to the Jedi and the Republic—would ever consider leaving all of it…for him…maker, it seemed impossible. It had to be.
“I would do anything for you just to have you keep looking at me the way you are now.” You cut through his disbelief with the utmost sincerity, gaze never once wavering as you do your best to make him understand what he means to you. The silence that follows hangs heavy in the air, and Rex swallows hard as searches for the right words, for anything that could match the depth of what you just offered him. He reaches out, trailing his fingers over your cheeks as he leans down to meet your lips in a chaste kiss. The touch of his lips is reverent, as if he wants to assure himself that you are real, that you are in his arms, that you are willingly giving yourself to him without a second thought.
When he finally pulls away and sees tears pricking against your eyes, he smiles at you and nods in understanding.
“How about we go day by day, and when this war is over, we can reassess.” He finally says, his voice less anxious than before. He lays back down and pulls you into his arms, hands going to your waist to pull you flush against him. You cry out in pain and push yourself away from him, the reaction catching Rex by surprise and making him sit up to see what he’s done When he sees you grabbing at your wound and hissing in discomfort, dread settles in his chest as he realizes he forgot the wound and handled you a lot more aggressively that he should have.
“Kriff, your side…I- I completely forgot. Mesh’la, are you-” He leans over to assess the bacta patch, wanting to see the damage he’s done and already thinking of what to tell Kix when he asks him to come and inspect the wound. His panic rises as you push his hand away and look down to find the patch still in place, and only when you’re sure no blood has seeped through do you grab Rex’s hand and settle it against the wound.
“Rex, relax. I- to be honest with you, I’m not sure whether or not I felt any pain. I was so far gone in our…activities, that I didn’t really focus on anything else.” His eyes are less anxious as you allow him to massage the skin around the wound, and when he sees there are no lies in your words, he nods and studies the irritated skin one last time before settling back down, bringing you into his chest gently.
He smiles when he feels you kiss just above his heart, giggling softly when you pinch his side and tease him for being so cuddly.
“Can I ask you something?” It’s his turn to interrupt the silence filling the room, and tilt your head up to nod at him.
“Anything!” His lips twitch into the faintest of smiles at the earnestness in your voice, his heart skipping a beat at the prospect of giving him the answer he’s been seeking for months on end.
“At what point did your feelings switch from wanting to be with me physically to…to whatever they are now?” Rex hesitates, choosing his words carefully and refusing to look anywhere else out of fear of missing a change in your facial expressions. When your brow lifts and your hand returns to his stomach, you can’t help but smile at him and shift your gaze to a fixed point somewhere on the skin beneath your palm.
“You mean when did I know that I’m yours?” His face flushes with embarrassment, but he nods instantly, not wanting to turn this moment awkward by his boyish reaction to your rather honest sentiment.
“I don’t think I can pinpoint a day or an hour, it all happened so suddenly and I didn’t realize how deep my feelings ran for you until I was so far gone in them.” You exhale deeply, turning a little contemplative as you admit to him everything you’ve felt for the past year or so.
“If I were to pick a reason though, it would have to be the way you carry yourself with your brothers, with Anakin even.” He looks down at you then, his gaze unwavering as he feels his soul light with a fire that he’s sure no one will ever put out now that you’ve kindled it.
“Seeing you give up so much to ensure your brothers live for another day stirred something inside me. And knowing that you’d follow Anakin into a battlefield without a second thought is…it’s- maker Rex, you’re amazing. You’re the best man I’ve ever met.” Your voice cracks slightly with emotion, a few tears rolling down your cheeks as you let him know that you will never care for anyone more than you care for him. Rex blinks down at you, stunned into silence at the raw honesty behind your words.
“The loyalty, the courage—it speaks volumes.” His chest tightens as you speak those words, and he can’t help but turn to face you fully so he can focus on nothing else but the way you fit perfectly in his arms.
“Come here, me’suum’ika.” He wraps his arms around you and molds you into his chest, stealing the breath from your lungs with a kiss that you’re sure would rival all the others he’s gifted you with so far. You let him take whatever he wants from you, sliding your arm around his back to feel every inch of him as he makes you forget the universe outside of your room.
“What does that word mean?” You smile at him when he finally breaks the kiss and trails his lips across your cheeks and down your neck.
“It means ‘little moon.’” Rex murmurs gently, as if he was sharing a secret meant only for your ears. Your heart swells at the tender nickname, and you press yourself closer to him, wanting to stay in his embrace for as long as you’re allowed. You breathe his presence to anchor yourself to him, refusing to acknowledge the chaos of the war raging outside your existence, here in this moment.
“Stay with me tonight,” you whisper pleadingly, voice barely audible. “Please.”
Rex’s hands tighten around you, and he brushes his thumb over your skin as he pulls you back to meet your gaze.
“I wouldn’t dream of being anywhere else, cyar’ika.”
The word sends a shiver down your spine, and you lose yourself in his arms, knowing that nothing will ever compare to what you now share with him.
And as you slowly succumb to sleep, Rex silently thanks the mythical bird for giving him what he’s wished for. The war may not be over, but it could wait. The galaxy, with all its heartbreak and evil, can be someone else’s concern. Tonight, Rex had you, and that was more than enough.
You were all he ever desired.
And he finally had you.

Handcuffs - Rex x F!Reader - NSFW
Summary: You had a plan. A plan to welcome your trooper home. And it involved handcuffs.
Characters: Rex, Anakin being a little shit
Pairing: Rex x F!Reader
Word Count: 9,258
Warnings: handcuffs, oral (male receiving), riding, PinV sex, fluff and smut, they're both saps for each other.
Author's Note: I'm really unsure about this one, I hope I captured Rex right, I always find it so difficult to write for him and I have no idea why. That said, I wrote nearly 10k words for him, what am I going to do?
You couldn’t wait any longer. The day had finally arrived. Your trooper was finally on shore leave and was back home with you on Coruscant. Well he would be if the kriffing transport was running on time. There was always a commotion in the hangar, and you were glad to be tucked out of the way of everybody rushing around you completing their work. All you could focus on at the moment was your Captain. You haven’t seen him in nearly 70 rotations. Being General Skywalker’s right hand man had it’s downsides, Rex was always in demand and often accompanied his General in most of his harebrained schemes. You were immensely proud of Rex, but it didn’t stop the worry that coursed through you every time you kissed him goodbye. It would only be relieved when he was back in the safety of your arms.
There was a commotion just up ahead, and you watched as the flight navigation troopers guided the transport ships into the hangar, ready for the men to be offloaded and begin their shore leave. You could feel the excitement reach a crescendo as you were finally going to be able to see Rex again after so long. You wondered if he had changed at all. From the holocalls you were able to receive from him, he appeared just like he normally did, if not exhausted and stressed. You hoped that he remained mostly safe while out on the battlefield.
As soon as the doors of the LAATies opened, there was an outpouring of blue and you struggled to find the distinct jaig eyes amongst all the armour of his brothers. Where was Rex? You hoped he wasn’t still on the cruiser, finishing up work or in meetings with Skywalker.
Just when you were about to comm Rex and ask him where he was or to meet back at your place as soon as he was finished; two strong arms wrapped around your middle and lifted you into the air. You’re spun around, hard plastoid digging into you but you don’t care as you let out a joyful laugh. There was only one person brave enough to greet you in such a way and not fear the repercussions of it. Gently, you’re lowered to the ground and strong hands land on your hips, pulling you towards him. It’s Rex. Of course it’s Rex.
“Hey, I’m so glad you’re here!” you greeted, pulling him into a tight hug and closing your eyes as you take in his scent. It’s a mixture of burnt plasma, smoke and cedar. It shouldn’t smell as good as it does, but well, it’s Rex. He could smell like a battlefield for all you cared, just as long as he was here.
Rex chuckled, returning the hug and holding you to him tightly, unwilling to let you go after his lengthy departure from you. The thought of holding you like this, pressed against him was one of the only things to keep him going during these hard months. Days blended in together, but it was all worth it if he could see you again. “I missed you too Mesh’la, you’ve all I’ve thought about” he murmured, running a gloved hand up and down your spine.
He’s very much aware of the eyes on the pair of you in the hangar. Knows that he’s pushing his luck just the pair of you hugging each other so close. He has no concern of his brother’s reporting you. No, never. They had their own loves and cyares to return to, they wouldn’t begrudge him this affection filled reunion. He felt lucky that you worked in the hangar and was here on your day off to welcome him back. No it was the nat-borns dotted around the hanger. Although many was friendly, kind and treated his brothers like actual beings and not meat droids, there was always some that hated the clones and would rather see them be put in their place and stay there. So with great difficulty, he pulls away, taking off his helmet so he can see you with his own two eyes and not a HUD screen in between you two.
“I wish I could kiss you at the moment, cyare, but it’s going to have to wait until we get home” Rex said sadly, wanting to cup your face and press his sand-roughened lips against yours.
You hummed, delighting in the fact that your trooper couldn’t wait until you got home before he covered you with his kisses and touch. But you had a much better idea. You had waited for him long enough, he could wait a little bit longer.
Standing on your tiptoes to reach his height, you heard his quiet gasp as you pressed against his front and placed your lips next to his ear. “When we get home, I’m cuffing you to the bed and going down on you all night until my jaw is sore” you whispered seductively, hand curling into the top of his chest plate to keep yourself balanced.
You were expecting him to gasp and blush, maybe even remind you that you’re in a public place and to be careful. You weren’t expecting Rex, Captain of the 501st to shudder and his eyes to briefly flutter closed as with a loud clatter, he dropped his helmet. The reinforced metal floorings seem to echo and vibrate with the noise as it drew people’s attentions towards you. Rex couldn’t help but blush as his brothers all looked over, some with confusion and others with smirks on their faces, as they guessed what exactly had caused such a reaction from the Captain.
Giggling softly at his reaction, you watched knowingly as Rex quickly bent down to scoop up his helmet and shove it over his head. No doubt he would prefer to hide his facial reactions at the moment and the beautiful red hue on his cheeks. “Mesh’la, you’re a menace!” he grumbled, shaking his head at you.
“Rex!” a voice called from behind him, and you quickly stood to attention as General Skywalker came over to the pair of you. “At ease” he waved you off, a smile quirking his lips as he looked between you and Rex.
“General Skywalker, it’s good to see you’ve returned” you said politely, relaxing slightly at how friendly he seemed with his Captain as he clapped the man’s shoulder.
“Was there any doubt?” he scoffed, smirking at your trooper. “You must be Y/N, Rex has told me all about you” Anakin announced, holding out his hand to you.
Shocked that Rex had spoken about you with his Jedi – a Jedi! - enough for him to recognise you by name and ignore the breaking of rules that said clones shouldn’t be dating, you reached out to shake his hand too. “Really?” you gaped, looking to Rex for some clue as to what the fuck was you meant to say to a Jedi who knew you were in an illegal romantic relationship with his Captain.
“Of course, he speaks very highly of you. And with Rex, that says everything I need to know” he smiled reassuringly, before glancing at Rex. “You okay, Captain? You feel tense” Anakin checked in on his trooper, amusement clear in his tone. You blushed and hoped he couldn’t sense in the Force what exactly had happened just before his arrival.
“I’m fine, General” Rex huffed, back straightening even more if possible. You were missing something in this, a quiet joke that obviously ran between the two. Raising an eyebrow at him, he subtly shook his head, he’d explain everything to you later.
“Well, I’ve got to be going. I’ve got business at the Senator’s– Senate!” Anakin quickly corrected, eyes widening in panic for half a second before he smiled wryly at you. “At the Senate. Enjoy your shore leave, Captain and don’t keep him up too late Y/N” Anakin said teasingly, winking at you as Rex tried to splutter out an explanation.
With heated faces, one covered by his bucket, you turned to each other. “So… the General knows?” you stated, anxiety already starting to curl in your chest.
“He won’t say anything Cyare, he’s in a similar situation himself” Rex assured, gesturing to you to lead the way out of the hangar. He had to remind himself to keep his hands at his side. A welcome back hug was one thing, a hand on your lower back was another. He wouldn’t risk you getting in trouble because he couldn’t control his desire to touch you.
“He’s with a clone!” you gasped, spinning around to stare at him agape.
“What?! No! I’ll explain later, but for now just trust me. We’re okay. I cover for Skywalker, he covers for me” Rex frowned, shaking his head at that and grimacing. No, he would hate for one of his brothers to be with the General. He was much too dramatic for that!
You grinned, knocking your shoulder against his arm teasingly. “Ohh, Skywalker has a mistress? Whatever would the Jedi Council say?” you giggled, heading over to your speeder as soon as the fresh air hit your face. Well, as fresh as the air could be on Coruscant. “Come on, I can’t wait to get home, can you?”
Rex couldn’t help the dopey smile that bloomed across his face. He was glad that his helmet hid that from you for a moment, because his heart ached with how much he loved you. You would always get embarrassed at that look and try to hide away. Rex didn’t want you to do that, not now. He loved to see how care-free you felt just by him being at your side once more. Hurrying forward to get ahead of you, he held open the door and helped you into the speeder, soaking in the feel of your hand in his and giving it a gentle squeeze for good measure.
“What a gentleman I have! I’m so lucky to have you, darling” you cooed, reaching for his own hand as soon as he got into the speeder. You leaned forward, pressing a kiss to where his cheek would be if he didn’t have his helmet on. “When I get you home love, I’m going to make sure you know just how thankful I am to have such a wonderful man in my life” you praised, pulling his hand up to your cheek and nuzzling into the rough texture of his gloves.
“Stars, cyare! I’m the lucky one. Don’t know what I’d do without you” he admitted, resting your head against his before pulling away. “Let’s get home. I want to finally be able to hold you” Rex smiled, pulling away to let you drive home.
You couldn’t help but chuckle. That’s what he thought, but he wouldn’t be able to hold you as much as he probably had hoped. At least, not just yet.
Taking your reaction as amusement at his words, he rolled his eyes and tugged at the hem of your jacket. “And no speeding this time, I mean it!” he warned, poking your side.
You rolled your eyes, pulling out into Coruscant’s mid-day traffic. “Not all of us drive like an ageing Trandoshan Rex” you reminded, daring to glance at him from the corner of your eye. It amused you greatly to know that Rex hated the idea of you breaking the speed limit. Not because he didn’t trust you, but he spent most of his time being acquainted with General Skywalker’s particular brand of flying, he just wanted a change of pace – literally.
When you arrived back at the building your apartment was in, Rex took off his helmet, wanting to make sure the neighbours weren’t threatened by the thought of a clone trooper coming into their building. You were glad that he was so considerate of people, but you wished he could just be like any other person. Able to relax once he got home from work and not worry about the prejudice that was being spurted by the media and the Senate.
As you entered the passcode to your door, Rex rested his hands on your hips, pulling you back to him. “Steady on trooper, I need to get us in the door first” you smiled, tugging him in after you when the door slid open.
The house was just like he remembered it, and he couldn’t help but sigh in relief at finally being home. The closest home that he and his brothers had was Kamino. And that was hardly what he would have thought a home would be like. No, when he dared dream of a future, he imagined a home like this. Being surrounded by warmth, comfort and love. To have soft things to touch, to sit on and not have to worry about keeping everything prim and proper. He could let go.
“Welcome home love” you greeted, leaning up on your tiptoes to press a gentle kiss to Rex’s lips.
Not one to let an opportunity go to waste, Rex wrapped his arms around you, pulling you against his chest. “I think we can do better than that, mesh’la” he rumbled, leaning down to press a more passionate kiss to you. He couldn’t help but keep you as close as possible to him, never wanting this moment to end. Flicking his tongue over your bottom lip, he swallowed your moans as you glided your own against his.
Pulling away so as to not derail your plan, you leant your head against his. “Why don’t you go and have a shower love? I’ll cook us some dinner while you’re in there” you suggested, running gentle fingers over his stubbled cheeks and down his jaw. Rex’s eyes fluttered at the gentle caress before he nodded.
You helped get his armour off, enjoying being able to help him in his routine. It added a touch of domesticity that you treasured. Rex had already been through so much in his short life, you wanted to make sure that he had some resemblance of normality. So if that included running your hands over Rex as he took off his armour, then so be it. He needed to know that he was loved and precious to you. Gently placing his boots next to the organised pile of armour that rested beside the door, you wrapped your arms around him fully now, feeling him relax against you.
“Go and jump in the refresher handsome!” you encouraged, pecking his cheek before heading into the kitchen. You heard the quiet sigh and the soft footsteps as Rex padded into the refresher. “Oh, leave your blacks outside, I’ll put them in the wash for you!” you called out behind you, already beginning to get the ingredients out to his favourite meal. You had already pre-prepared most of the steps so it shouldn’t take too long for it to cook.
Turning on the radio, you lost yourself in the cooking, feeling lighter somehow now that Rex was home and was using your refresher to get clean. You hoped he would have a long shower, just so that he could treat himself now that he was off duty. The first time he had used it, he had got the time down to 4 minutes. It had left you reeling when he had stepped out and you had barely even started the caf for breakfast. After plenty reassurance and insisting, Rex had finally believed you when you said you could afford the luxury of hot water for longer than 5 minutes, and that no, he wasn’t taking advantage of your kindness. That he was allowed to let the hot water beat against his tense muscles and allow them to loosen after the many stresses of the day. To put down some of those responsibilities that weighed heavily on his shoulders.
Most times after he returned home to you, he would struggle for a few hours to really relax. He had gotten better at it, but it always took him a while to decompress. So shower, food and cuddles were generally required before he was fully with you. You didn’t mind, it was to be expected. He had seen some terrible, horrifying things in the fight for the galaxy’s freedom. Things that kept him up at night, screaming in terror before he woke up with a start. You always held him, picked up his broken pieces and put him back together. Some nights he would go back to sleep, safe in your arms. Other nights you would talk and comfort him until the light began to stream into your bedroom as a new day began.
It wasn’t a hardship to look after Rex. After all, how could you deny the man anything when he asked for nothing?
While you were so lost in your thoughts and the comforting routine of cooking, Rex had finished his shower and dressed in the loose lounge pants that you had brought for him. His bare chest was still a bit damp from the shower, but he enjoyed having the freedom to move around and not feel the constricting feeling of his blacks and armour.
Leaning against the doorway, he had found you lost in your own little world, humming happily to whatever tune was on the radio at the time. He couldn’t help but take you in, the way your hips swayed slightly to the beat, how you took great care in ensuring dinner was going to be perfect. Every so often you would stop, shake your head and return back to whatever you were doing. Obviously your mind was working at a 100 miles a minute, wanting to make his return home special.
If it took him a few hours to get his head back in the present, then it took you just as long to relax and put down your own anxieties. Numerous times he had told you that you didn’t have to do anything special to mark the occasion. That just cuddling on the sofa with some takeaway was more than enough. Just as long as they were together, then nothing else mattered. But you were determined, always wanting to treat him and pamper him as much as possible. Admittedly it was really nice when you both did a few skin care treatments and massages, but what really made it special was you. He didn’t need anything like that, and he was determined for you to put aside your perfectionism and let him dote on you for a change.
Grabbing everything to plate up, you were surprised when two thick arms wrapped around your waist, pulling you into an equally broad chest.
“Smells delicious mesh’la, almost as good as you” he murmured into your ear, swaying with you as he kissed your neck.
Giggling at the ticklish spot he always seemed to find, you turned your head to give him a small smile. “Says you, you smell incredible” you flirted back, trying to dish everything out with Rex still attached to you. “Will you get us some drinks ready, darling?” you requested, nodding over to the cupboard of glasses across your kitchen.
“Of course! You didn’t have to go through all this trouble” he reminded, taking a few glasses out of the cupboard and filling it up with your drinks. “We could have had anything and I wouldn’t have minded. Those ration bars are awful, I’ll have to get you to try them one of these days” Rex grimaced, shaking his head at the thought of them.
“No thanks, I don’t know how you boys stomach them, you must have stomachs of steel” you insisted, face twisting at the thought of tasting what the troopers were given.
“Well after the osik they served on Kamino, anything tastes better” Rex said dryly, and you cursed yourself for bringing up a bad memory. “It’s fine, cyare. You weren’t to know” Rex soothed, seeing the worry and regret already beginning to form on your face. Taking the plates out of your hand, he laid them on the table before pulling you into him.
“Now, I’m really, really hungry for my beautiful cyare” Rex stated, lips pulling into a smirk as he watched you blush at the feel of his heated skin beneath your hands. He let you run gentle, soft fingers up and down his stomach, taking in the feel of him.
“Don’t you mean my food?” you asked, raising an eyebrow at him.
“No I do not. I’d much rather be eating you out” he growled playfully, nipping playfully at your bottom lip.
Desire shot through you at that, but you smacked his chest playfully, rolling your eyes at his words. “Dinner before desert, handsome” you reminded, pulling away from him as you set the rest of the table.
“if you insist” he sighed heavily, winking at you when you caught his eye.
You couldn’t help but duck your head from your pretty trooper, heat climbing up your cheeks as you busied yourself with everything. A warmth curled in the pit of your stomach and you felt slightly breathless from his attention.
After dinner, he directed you to the sofa, not taking any arguments as he insisted he would clean up dinner because you had cooked. Knowing it was pointless to argue with him, you agreed, flopping back onto the couch and sinking into the cushions. The night you had planned still wasn’t over yet, but you could feel the tension bleed out of you and tiredness creep in. It had been a long day getting everything ready, worried about how Rex would be when he got off the ship, how he would behave when he returned back to you. It had added up, and now you needed to decompress from your own thoughts just a little bit.
“Hey, come ‘ere” a deep rumble sounded as Rex climbed onto the sofa next to you, pulling you into his lap.
You sighed, straddling him and curling up into his chest. Taking in his scent, you felt yourself relax even more into him, hiding your face in the crook of his neck and just able to rest there.
Rex chuckled, slipping a hand underneath your shirt and tracing patterns onto the small of your back. “Long day, cyare?” he murmured, burying his nose into your hair and tightening his hold of your waist.
You hummed, content to just soak in his warmth and the feel of him against you. “Very… wanted to make it perfect for you” you admitted, words mumbled against his skin as you refused to pull away.
Rex smiled warmly, shifting into a better position against the pillows. It caused him to buck his hips slightly but he ignored the feel of your core pressed against him for now. “Everything you do for me is perfect, cyare. And even if everything went wrong today, I wouldn’t care, just as long as I could hold you in my arms like this” he whispered, almost like the words would shatter the small peace that was surrounding you if they were spoken too loudly.
Sighing, you nuzzled into his neck before lifting your head and pressing a kiss to his jaw. “Just want to make you happy” you shrugged, as though it was the simplest thing in the world.
Rex chest tightened, and he couldn’t help but fall even more in love with you. His happiness had never been anyone’s priority. Had never been considered in any choices or decisions by him or anyone. The closest time he could consider being happy was with his brothers and the moments of friendship between the General, Commander and himself. But nobody had ever devoted their time to make sure he was happy, put any effort into it like you did. He didn’t think he’d ever worthy of your love but if he got to hear you say stuff like that and to whispering that you loved him whenever you could, well he would do everything he possibly could to prove it to you.
Cupping your face, he pressed small kisses along your cheeks, over your nose and head before landing a final kiss to the corner of your mouth. You huffed at the tease, wanting him to kiss you properly. However as you moved to finish what he started, he pulled away. “You make me happy, cyare. So, so happy” he said, so surely and without doubt that you blinked in surprise at the raw emotion in his voice. Rex leaned forward, letting his lips connect with yours slightly harder than he intended. Maybe coming home had affected him more than he thought. He just wanted to be close to you, feel you and hear the sweet noises you let out as you reunited.
As the kiss got more heated, you slid your arms around his neck, not wanting to be too far away from him. His exploring tongue swept across your bottom lip and you opened your mouth to let him inside, deepening the kiss. He playfully teased your own tongue out and nipped at your bottom lips as you both became lost in the other. One of your hands trailing from the tight grip around his neck to follow the happy little trail that led into his trousers.
Rex’s breath hitched against yours and you couldn’t help but feel proud at the way your touch always seemed to send him into a frenzy of want, need and desperation. He didn’t waste any time, running calloused hands over your middle. “So soft, I love feeling you against me” he mumbled in awe, kissing along the side of your neck before he pulled the thin skin under your ear into his mouth and sucked hard.
“Rex” you gasped, stomach tightening at the feel of him marking you up. You knew that tomorrow you would be sporting a dark hickey that you would be proud to wear. Not wanting to lose track of where this night was going, you slid your hand into his loungers and felt the stiff cock that had been pressing against you.
“Kriff!” Rex hissed, as he felt your small hand grip his member. It had been so long since he felt anything other than his own hand on the dark, lonely nights on board the Resolute. Your warm touch was like a balm to his soul as he pushed his hips into your hand.
He was hardening in your hand, especially when you squeezed him gently up to the tip, making sure to rub just where the head of his cock met his shaft. The moan he let out was enough to send slick into your panties and you couldn’t help but try and find friction on the thigh you were perched on. It helped sate the flash of arousal for a moment, but you wanted more.
Rex seemed to agree because he gripped the hem of your shirt and quickly tugged it up and off you, pulling your hands away from him. His growl of frustration did nothing to stop you rocking yourself against him as your core ached. Grunting, he gripped your hips, positioning them over his once more before staring at your beautiful exposed chest.
“God, you’re perfect, mesh’la” he breathed, large hand squeezing your breast as you rocked your hips against his. “So soft” he murmured, tightening his hold on your waist as he pressed feather soft kisses along the soft rises of your breasts. Heat was curling dangerously in your stomach, and you knew that if you didn’t move this along then your plans for tonight with him ending up in cuffs was not going to happen. The Captain could distract you better than anyone else you knew, and you really, really wanted to go down on him and have him at your mercy.
“Rex” you panted, pushing him away from you for a second. His eyes glanced up at you, dark and full of promises of pleasure and desire that you had to take a deep breath to collect yourself. “I want you in our bed. Can I?” you asked, kissing the corner of his mouth teasingly. It twitched under your actions, recognising the same move from himself. “I want to make you feel good, to taste you and hold you in my mouth until my jaw aches. Please?” you breathed, brushing your cores together as though he would say no to you.
“Kriff cyare! Yes, course! As if I’d deny you anything” he cursed, shaking his head and controlling the roll of your hips against his for a few moments before allowing you to stand up. It made him shiver, losing the heat of you pressed against his body.
“Come on handsome” you encouraged, taking his hand and pulling him up. Biting your lip, you couldn’t help but take him in, already so worked up from your little make out session on the couch. Not that you were much different. “I’ve got plans for you” you teased, squeezing his hand before heading to your room.
Guiding him into your bedroom, you were eager to have him under you, to have him completely at your mercy. You were looking forward to seeing all the stresses on your Captain’s shoulders disappear as lust and desire darkened his eyes even further.
Stopping him at the edge of your bed, you pressed a gentle, soft kiss to the skin above his heart before you pulled away. “I want to use some binders on you tonight. Is that okay?” you asked, making sure not to touch him while he made his decision. It was a rule you both had put into place when you started this relationship. You should both be in a clear head when you made these kind of decisions, and both of you were aware just how much the others touch affected you.
Rex brow furrowed for a moment before he looked back at you. “My binders might be a bit uncomfortable cyare, and they’re only able to release with my fingerprint” he explained, rubbing the back of his neck in disappointment.
“That won’t be a problem” you assured, ducking under the bed to grab at the box that you kept all your special toys in. Flipping up the lid, you found exactly what you were looking for and turned to look back at Rex. He looked a little dazed and you realised just exactly what position you were in. “Here, I thought about that a few days ago, so I brought some new ones for us to have fun with. They’re padded and more comfortable to use. Think these will be okay, Captain?” you smirked, handing them over to him for inspection before pushing yourself up from the floor. He would be the one to wear them, and he had more knowledge about binders and handcuffs than you.
Giving them a critical once over, he noticed the quick release button that you could press and the one that he would be able to press as well if it became too much. You’d obviously had done your research and picked well. The thought of you planning this out, researching which binders to buy made his blood feel like fire rushing underneath his skin. “Been planning this a while?” he couldn’t help but tease, handing them back to you and nodding in approval.
“Rex, I always imagine you when you’re away. I can’t help it” you grinned, looking up at him through your lashes.
“Well, you’ll just have to tell me some of those things. I imagine there’s a long list.”
“I’d love to.”
Rex wrapped his arms around you, tugging you into him and sealing your words with his kiss. It was slightly more passionate than the one you shared in the living room, hungry to feel you against him, taste you on his tongue and run his hands over your shapely curves.
“You sure about this?” you whispered, panting slightly as you tried to pull your brain cells together after that.
“I was sure about it when you told me in the hangar, mesh’la” he growled, pinching your hip as he remembered all those stares that had swivelled around at you both. He would be hearing about that from his brothers later no doubt.
You squirmed in his hold before placing your hands on his hips and pushing him down on the bed. He landed with a soft thump and a bounce as you stood between his spread legs. It was a glorious sight, the respected and feared Captain, laid spread out beneath you. His thick thighs encasing you and bronze skin on full display. Looking up at him, you couldn’t help but return the smile that he had on his face as he watched you watching him.
“You’re so pretty, Rex. Like something out of a fairy tale. My knight in shining armour” you breathed, hooking your fingers underneath the band of his lounge pants and slowly pulling them down off angled hips. As you did so, you leaned forward and kissed the sharp jut of his hips, making Rex let out a strangled groan. It was one of the first of many sounds you hoped to draw out of him.
After pulling off his pants and throwing them behind you to land on the floor. You’d pick them up in the morning. Looking back, you could see Rex about to complain at you for leaving them lying around but you quickly cut him off. Swiping your tongue across your lips, you leaned over his stiffened cock, letting your hot breath caress the sensitive skin as Rex squeezed his eyes shut and threw his head back onto the mattress.
“Move up the bed, love” you instructed, taking in how he had to take a couple of breaths before he dragged himself up to the top of your bed. You helped pile the pillows up so he could be comfortable, checking on him to make sure he was doing okay.
“Mesh’la, I’m fine. I love you and how much you want to look after me, but I really, really want to feel you against me” Rex assured, hooking a hand around your waist and tugging you down onto his front. He chuckled at the little squeal you let out as he ran his hands up and down your spine, kissing at the delicate skin of your neck before sucking red marks that you would proudly wear tomorrow.
Stars, you had forgotten just how strong he was as he kept you against him. His hand dipped beneath your t-shirt, fingers tracing patterns along your skin as you ran your hand through his short blonde hair. It tickled against your palm and you loved the feel of the short hairs brushing against your hand. Your other hand cupped his cheek, a hint of stubble of a 5 o’clock shadow beginning to grow on his face. You would have to try and persuade him not to shave it during his time off, you could just imagine how it would feel between your thighs.
Pulling away, your breath caught in your chest at seeing how flushed Rex was beginning to look from your kisses and touch. His beautiful brown eyes were staring at you with a mixture of adoration and lust, taking in every feature as though he was committing it to memory. You understood. You felt exactly the same way when he was on leave and the pair of you were on borrowed time until his next shore leave. Leaning forward, you pressed your forehead against his, savouring the intimate touch as both of you took in shuddering breaths until you settled.
“Missed you” he murmured, leaning upwards to give you another sweet kiss.
“Missed you too, love” you sighed, stroking his cheek before sitting up and straddling him.
Rex let out a groan, hands flying to your waist to keep you against him. His thumbs dug into your flesh, sure to leave bruises later on for you to admire. As you reached over to get the binders you had left on the bed, Rex hissed as your clothed core rubbed against his cock, stimulating him even further as your warmth seeped through your clothes into him.
“I’m going to put the binders on you now. Do you remember your safe word?” you asked, forcing yourself to push away your desire for a moment to focus on Rex.
“Kamino” Rex nodded, eyes turning serious at your question, giving it the consideration it and you deserved. He ran his hands from your hips, trailing down your thighs before giving them a gentle squeeze.
You nodded your consent to his words, once again hating how he had chosen that word. It was filled with so much horror and pain that you had wondered why he had chosen that when you had first started to explore your relationship. He had told you that it would be the one word he wouldn’t be thinking about when you were together. That if he said it, you would know that he needed to stop. Rex was right, that word would be like a cold splash of water down your spine.
Gently, you picked up his left hand, brushing your lips against his wrists, over his palm and kissing each fingertip before you placed it into the cuff. You felt Rex twitch under your hips and looked up to see him taking in your touch with wide eyes and love written all over his face. Rex didn’t get to experience much loving gestures apart from his brothers, so you wanted to spoil him as much as possible. Give him the softness and love that the galaxy didn’t.
Picking up his right hand you did the same, pressing revering kisses to his knuckles and over his strong, course fingertips. A huff of air left Rex as you placed a loving kiss to his palm. It was done so quietly that you almost didn’t hear it. But Rex relaxed even more against the bed, some of the tension he had been carrying since the hangar – kriff, maybe even since he walked out of your door the last time, was finally leaving him. You secured his right hand in the cuff, pressing the button to close them and raising his arms above his head.
“Stars Rex, you’re beautiful. I don’t think my imagination could do you justice” you gasped, taking in the sight of him looking so delectable. He was stretched out, taunt bronzed skin pulled over tantalising muscles. His arms bulged at the position he was in, looking just as strong and protective as Rex was. His dusky pink nipples were standing at attention, and you couldn’t help but lean forward and take one into your mouth.
The reaction was instant.
“Fuck Mesh’la!” Rex breathed, hands tugging at the restraints slightly as his fingers twitched to run through your hair, hold your delicious mouth to him. When you circled one with a tongue, he had to force himself to still unless he buck into you.
You chuckled, moving onto the next and lightly sucking the nipple before pulling away and blowing on it. It hardened even further and you couldn’t help but smile. Running your hands over his pecs, you slowly trailed them up his arms, avoiding the ticklish spot under his arms. Your trooper was ridiculously ticklish there, and only the Commander Batch were the only other people who knew. Feeling the defined shape of his biceps and triceps, you moved up to his forearms before entwining your fingers together with his. You squeezed them reassuringly, nuzzling into his cheek and pressing a kiss there as you slowly started to circle your hips against his.
Activating a button, the binders magnetised to the bed and Rex gasped as he was now unable to move. Completely at your mercy. “Neat little trick, cyar’ika” he muttered, voice shaking a little as all his blood rushed further down to his cock.
“I thought so too” you crowed, biting your lip as you looked down at the man underneath you, pulling your hands away to stroke his twitching stomach muscles as you felt his cock strain against you.
“My smart, beautiful cyare” he praised, watching in hunger as your face heated up even more and the touch running along his stomach stuttered for a moment before you continued your delicate strokes.
“Hey! I’m the one meant to be loving you tonight” you reminded, shaking your head at the power of his words.
As if reading your mind, he chuckled warmly, hips twitching underneath you and giving you both just a hint of friction. “Don’t need my hands to make you come undone” he said, remembering that night a few months ago when he had whispered such filth into your ear as he fucked you deep that you had cummed quicker than you had ever before. It was something he was immensely proud of himself for.
“Another time, Captain” you promised, leaning forward to take a nipple into your mouth once more. He let out a small groan and it felt like victory, your Captain quickly forgetting about his own prowess and focusing on yours. You scraped your teeth over the hardened nub, resulting in the pull of Rex’s arms and a thrust upwards that nearly had you toppling over him.
“Rex!” you chastened, pinching a nipple and twisting it slightly.
He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment before opening them again and fixing you with a contrite look. It didn’t match the smirk on his face or the words that came out of his mouth. “Sorry cyar’ika, have your fun” he nodded, encouraging you to continue, “promise I’ll be good.”
You didn’t believe him but began kissing over his chest, lingering on the scar that was the souvenir of the bolt that nearly took him from you. Softly, you traced the raised flesh, making sure that you loved it just as much as you did him. That it didn’t take anything from his worth just because he wore the scars of his battles. “So beautiful” you whispered, laying a final kiss to the skin before kissing down his stomach and nuzzling the dark patch of hair that led from his belly button down to his handsome cock.
“Take them off” Rex instructed, nodding at your bra and covered bottom half. His voice cut you out of your admiration and you looked up and raised an eyebrow at your Captain.
“Ask me nicely” you chided, dragging a nail along his inner thigh. It twitched under your hand and he shifted even more as he felt your warm hand sooth the light pink mark you had made.
“Please, pretty girl, I want to see you. All of you” he sighed, running his eyes down from your face to your covered chest and further down to what waited between your legs.
“You sound so lovely when you beg, baby” you smiled, getting off the bed and leaving him exposed to your own stare. “I want to hear more of it tonight” you told him, hooking your fingers into your trousers and pulling them off. Rex uttered a quiet curse as he saw you dressed in a slinky lingerie number. How on earth had he missed that when you were necking on the couch.
Grinning at his attention, you slipped your hands up to the fastenings of your bra and flung it away, letting your breasts drop from the constrictive cage they had been forced in. The cool air instantly hit you, and your nipples and you couldn’t help but shiver slightly at them hardening under Rex’s ravenous look. Hoping to keep that look on you for the rest of your life, you turned around and bent over, hearing the groan as your ass was put on perfect display for him. Pulling the lace over your ass cheeks and down your legs, you straightened up and kicked them aside.
“Mesh’la” he whispered, taking in the beautiful sight. You watched as a bead of pre-cum leaked from the head of his cock.
Rex couldn’t help but feel his mouth water, you looked beautiful, good enough to eat. And he wanted to taste you so badly. Wanted to take those perky nipples into his mouth, suck and kiss them until you were left gasping at how sensitive they were. He wanted to leave marks all over your chest so that they wouldn’t disappear until days after he left. What he wouldn’t give to just hold them in his hands, rub away the red marks that had dug into your skin from the lacy bra’s grip. But he couldn’t. Because tonight, he was playing by your rules instead.
“Come here, please Mesh’la, let me taste you!”
Chuckling at his begging, you climbed up the bed and between his legs. Appreciating the way he automatically spread them wider, giving you space to come in between them. Rewarding him with a kiss to the side of his knee, you got yourself comfortable and rested your head on his thigh. You knew it would frustrate him, feeling your hair tickling the soft skin of his thighs and the warm breath caress his balls. “I want to taste you more. I want to take your cock in my mouth and feel you pulse against my tongue” you whispered, running a tortuously slow finger over his balls.
Rex whimpered, hips flexing and you gave him a mock pout. “Maker, you can’t say stuff like that cyare, otherwise this will be over much sooner than we both want” Rex groaned, biting his lip as you began to press kisses along his inner thighs. Occasionally you would graze your teeth down his leg, making him flinch away or twitch, but you always kept a firm hand on his leg, thumb rubbing small circles into him as you worked your way further up and up until you were so close to where he wanted you.
“Mesh’la!” Rex whined, hips shifting under your grip. “Come on!” he encouraged, looking at you through his half-lidded gaze.
“But you promised me I could have my fun” you pouted, returning back to pressing gentle kisses along Rex’s thigh.
“And you have. Now let me out, I want to have some fun” Rex grumbled, binders clunking against your headboard as he tried futilely to reach for you.
“Oh?” you gasped, voice pitched slightly higher as you met his gaze. Rex moaned, your eyes darkening with unrestrained lust. “Is this not fun enough for you, Captain?” you asked, licking a strip from the bottom of his cock up to the tip. Circling the head, you collected the pre-cum that had escaped, moaning slightly at the taste as you kept eye contact with your trooper.
Rex gaped, cock giving a valiant twitch in an effort to get closer to your mouth. Stars, he had never seen anything quite as sexy and enchanting as you. He wished he could touch you, thread his fingers through your hair and stop you teasing him.
Words were lost to him as you carefully took him into your mouth, rubbing the head of his cock against your tongue. He threw his head back, a long moan falling from his lips as your hand gripped him at the base, holding his cock steady as you began to kitten lick at his slit. It felt like you were trying to drink his taste from the source.
“God, mesh’la… so good… feel so good” he whined as you leaned forward, taking as much of him in as you could. He hit the back of your throat and your eyes watered, forcing you to slow down and pull back. It had been a while since you had taken him, and wanted to enjoy seeing him come apart.
So you started a gentle pressure as you sucked him down, wrapping your lips around him and jerking your hand around the bit that you couldn’t fit in. Rex was longer than you had, not quite as thick but he was a heavy weight against your tongue as you used it to stimulate the vein on the underside of his cock.
The sounds that Rex was letting out was delicious, small gasps and wet whines escaped him as you devoted yourself to making him cum in your mouth. He panted out your name, hips rising and making you choke on his cock. An apology quickly was cried out as he felt his balls tightening, drawing up as his orgasm approached.
Knowing that Rex was about to come, you pinned his hips down, putting your weight on him as you ramped up the vibrating moans and suction of your mouth and the twist of your hand, wanting to taste him as he shot his essence down your throat.
“Wait- wait! Stop Mesh’la, please!” Rex cried out, squeezing his eyes shut from the onslaught of heat, desire and ecstasy that were shooting through his veins.
Instantly you pulled away, concerned that you had done something wrong or he wanted to stop. “Rex, are you okay?” you panted, voice hoarse from him repeatedly hitting the back of your throat.
Rex nodded, trying to gather himself and force out a few words so you would understand. “Don’t wanna cum, want you… want you to ride- ride me” he explained, toes curling as he tried to keep himself still and from thrusting his hips up into your face.
Smiling softly in relief, you pressed a kiss to his hip before raising yourself up from between his legs. “Of course, baby. Such a good boy, telling me what you want” you praised, cupping his cheek and kissing him. He whimpered at your praise, system flooding with pride at your words.
Carefully so as to not overstimulate him, you got your knees on either side of his hips and gripped his cock, slowly lowering your form onto him. Truth was you were just as desperate as Rex, your body unable to resist his noise and the feel of him as your sucked his cock. It had you leaking slick all over your inner thighs, rubbing them together, desperate for friction. With a slight wince, you took him into you, your arousal helping to coat him and aid the slide into you.
As you came to a rest on his hips, you were both panting heavily, the feel of his cock pressed snugly against you, hitting all the good parts inside of you already. He couldn’t help but curl his hands into fists inside the binders, the warm, wet heat of you clinging to him, tightening and loosening around his cock as you got used to the feel of him again. Although he was desperate to move, to thrust up into your wet cavern and hear your moans, he wouldn’t. He wouldn’t move unless you gave him the go to.
Finally after what seemed like hours, but was probably only a minute, you met his gaze and nodded. Rex returned it, watching eagerly as you raised yourself up before dropping down onto his cock. The cry that left you both would have pissed off the neighbours if you both cared about that sort of things. But you didn’t, because this was the first time in months since you had seen Rex, since he had filled you completely and touched you with such love and affection it had you melting against him.
Beginning a roll of your hips with a circulating grind against him on every downward motion of your hips, you rested your hands on the headboard, gripping it to keep you steady and give you the momentum to fuck down into Rex.
Rex didn’t seem to care, his head was thrown back as he grunted loudly, raising his hips to meet you thrust for thrust. If he had his hands, he would keep them on your hips, keep you bouncing on his cock as you cried out his name. Opening his eyes, he saw your breasts jiggling in front of him and he took the opportunity to do what he wanted for a while. He caught one in his mouth, suckling and pulling at your nipple. It had you yelping out his name, hips stuttering against his at the feel of the sharp pressure around your sensitive bud.
Dropping your hands to rest on his chest gave Rex more breasts to taste. He cursed at being unable to cup them like he wanted, but at least he was sucking, dark red marks onto your chest. Tomorrow they would darken and he would repeat the process all over again until he had to go.
“Touch yourself” he growled, before grazing his teeth against your nipple before giving it a sharp nip.
Moaning loudly, you couldn’t help but reach a hand in between you two and find your sensitive clit, rubbing fast circles on it as you neared your release. “Fuck, Rex!” you cried, throwing your hips down against his thrusts, forcing him deeper into you and hitting that spot that had you seeing stars. Your orgasm washed over you, forcing you over the cliff as pleasure assaulted all of your senses.
“Cyare!” Rex grunted, thrusting into you a couple more time before he released hot, long spurts into you, gritting his teeth as you clenched around his sensitive member.
Once you had stopped shaking, you realised that you had collapsed onto Rex and was holding him tightly. He himself was slumped, his arms looking heavy as they were held up by the binders.
Cursing yourself for being lost in your own high, you quickly sat up, groaning at the feeling of him still inside of you. “I’m going to take the binders off now, love, is that okay?” you asked quietly, not wanting to disturb the relaxing and peaceful atmosphere that was washing over you both. He nodded, eyes still resting stuck as he just enjoyed your touch and the way you looked after him.
Gently, you made sure to support his arms so they didn’t just drop when they were released. Pressing the button, the binders opened and you caught his arms before they hit him. You massaged his aching muscles, aware they could be stiff from spending too much time in one position. When that was done, you noticed the pink marks against Rex’s wrist from where he had been tugging at them. Thankfully you had brought the padded ones, you would hate to see what Rex’s wrists would have been like if his cuffs would have been used. Pressing soft kisses along his wrists, you brought them to his chest.
“How are you feeling?” you inquired, checking in with him as you stroked your fingers through his blonde buzz cut.
“Great, cyare, I feel great” he reassured, pulling you down onto his chest and kissing your temple. “Maker, I love you” Rex breathed, holding your sweaty body closer to his own.
“Love you too, I’m so glad you’re back” you smiled, shutting your eyes as you took in his comforting embrace.
“Give me 10 minutes and I’ll show you how much I’ve missed you” Rex rumbled, a promise that you knew he was sure to keep.
“Maybe I can tell you about some of my ideas while we wait” you teased, resting your chin on his chest and smirking at him.
“My clever, gorgeous cyare” he murmured, pulling you in for another kiss. And if you didn’t leave the bedroom until late afternoon the following day, you couldn’t help but feel smug about it.

ㅤֹㅤ⊹ㅤ #ㅤMY CRAZY BOYFRIENDㅤ.ᐟ ֹ ₊ ꒱

☆ PAIRING : Teen Team Guys x Fem Reader
☆ SYNOPSIS : When They Act Crazy But Think It's Normal.
☆ CHARACTERS : Mark Grayson, Rex Sloan, Rudolph 'Rudy' Conners, Male Eve Wilkins.
☆ NOTES : English is not my first language. Hope you enjoy!
— MARK GRAYSON ⋆
You sigh, rubbing your eyes as you slide open your closet door, fully prepared to grab a sweater and move on with your night. Instead, you’re greeted by the sight of Mark, squatting in the corner like some feral raccoon, clutching one of your hoodies to his chest.
He blinks up at you, wide-eyed.
“…Hey.”
You don’t even react. You just shut the door again.
“Wait—babe! Come back! This isn’t what it looks like!” His muffled voice seeps through the wood.
“Oh, it’s exactly what it looks like.” You rub your temples. “Mark, why the fuck are you in my closet?”
There’s a long silence, then a hesitant, “…To be close to you?”
You groan.
“Okay—wait—before you get mad,” he tries, “I technically haven’t left. Like, all day. So, technically, I haven’t been following you, I’ve just… always been here.”
“GET OUT OF MY FUCKING HOUSE!!!”
He bursts out like a guilty child, tripping over your shoes in the process. “I just like your smell, okay?! It’s comforting!”
You’re pretty sure he’s stolen half your wardrobe at this point.
Then you grab your coat and walk out of your room. You can’t deal with this. "I'm sleeping at a friend's house."
"Okay!" he calls after you. "I'll be right here when you get back!"
— REX SLOAN ⋆
You're at a restaurant, minding your business, when the waiter places a drink in front of you.
"Here's your drink, ma'am," the poor guy says.
Rex lunges across the table, knocking everything over in his path. "WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, BUD?!"
The entire restaurant turns to stare as Rex grabs the waiter by the collar.
"Sir, I—"
"DO YOU THINK SHE WANTS YOUR DRINK? YOU THINK SHE WANTS YOU?! YOU TRYNA FLIRT?!" Rex’s hands start to glow, dangerous sparks flying. The table catches fire.
The waiter is pale. "Sir, this is my job—"
"OH, SO YOUR JOB IS TO HIT ON MY GIRL?! I’LL BLOW YOUR NUTS OFF!"
"Rex," you hiss, face buried in your hands. "Put him down. Right. Fucking. Now."
Silence.
Then Rex lets go. The waiter collapses onto the floor, trembling.
Rex turns to you, panting, eyes crazed. Then he smirks, sliding into the seat next to you, throwing an arm around your shoulders. "So anyway, babe, I was thinkin’ about gettin’ a tattoo of your name across my chest."
You stare at the burning table. "I'm leaving."
— RUDOLPH CONNERS ⋆
You wake up to the soft, persistent buzzing of your phone. You squint at the screen.
Unknown Number: Good morning. You should drink some water. Your body temperature was slightly high at 3:42 AM.
Your stomach drops.
You: Who is this???
Unknown Number: You left your window unlocked again. I locked it for you. You’re welcome.
You don’t respond. Instead, you launch out of bed, rip open your curtains—
And stare directly at a hovering drone. It stares back.
It waves at you.
“Jesus Christ,” you whisper.
Your phone buzzes again.
Unknown Number: Why did you close your curtains? :(
— EVAN WILKINS ⋆
You freeze as soon as you step into your apartment. Something is… off.
The walls. They’re a different color. Your furniture? Not where you left it. Your wardrobe? Different.
Oh no. Not again.
“Surprise!” His voice is so cheerful, it makes you want to throw something.
You whirl around. There he is, standing in your newly pink-painted living room, arms wide open like he expects a hug.
You stare at him, horrified. “What did you do?”
“I made everything better!” he beams. “I mean, you have terrible taste. No offense.”
“No offense?!” You gesture around wildly. “You redesigned my entire apartment without asking!”
“Yeah, because I love you,” he says, like that explains everything.
You inhale deeply. Do not commit murder. Do not commit murder.
“Also, I made sure the door won’t open until we talk about your feelings,” he adds helpfully.
You scream into a pillow.

Mark Grayson has always liked you.
It was the first day of school, 2nd grade homeroom. The first day of school was always nerve wracking but this time was different.
His desk was next to you per the seating chart and you were the last kid to come in.
You were wearing a black t-shirt with some white bows on it and sky blue jeans with pink flowers embroidered on the pockets. White twinkle toes with pink and purple rhinestones.
Your hair was styled in 2 ponytails with cute bows on the bands.
Your eyes bright and a shy smile on your lips.
“Hi.” You bashfully said to him.
“Hi.” He said back in a daze.
His seven year old heart was fluttering and he was as red as a tomato when he realized it was you! You were the girl whose empty desk he was seated next to!
You always shared homeroom, if not, recess with him in elementary school.
Then came middle school, where you had at least 2 classes with him.
High school was a bit easier as you saw him 3-4 times a day, and that’s not including clubs or other extracurricular activities.
He spent 11 years like that. Seeing you in class, in the hallways, at lunch or after school.
Your relationship with him never wavered. Your character was still the same even after new chapters and opportunities for development.
He’s endured some insane shit, but he’s so happy the one constant in his life remained consistent.
“You still have a crush on her?!”
“Shut up, William. Or do you want the whole world to know.” Mark chides.
William snorts like it’s the most obvious thing in the world (it is). “The whole world already knows, it’s just your dumbass that’s somehow oblivious.”
“Give the lover boy a break.” Amber lightly teases.
Mark sighs and rubs his face with his hands, trying to hide the redness creeping up on him without his consent.
“Is that her?” Rick points towards Mark’s dream girl.
But what he forgot to mention was the living explosion (literally) walking alongside you.
“What’s he doing here?” Eve’s surprised Rex decided to step foot on college campus willingly.
William subtly side-eyes Mark and makes a desperate attempt to hold in his laughter by squeezing Rick’s hand.
Mark slowly stands, a confused look on his face.
“I’ll… go find out.” He says it like a question, like he’s unsure if that’s what he should do.
Amber and Eve share a knowing look.
“You’re funny.” You say as you catch your breath.
Rex shrugs nonchalantly and smirks. “Yeah, I get that a lot.”
You’re shaking your head and are about to say something when you see Mark in front of you.
“Mark.” Your eyes crinkle as you smile.
You go in for your usual hug and Mark accepts it.
Unbeknownst to you that he’s making wide eyes among other facial expressions in a desperate attempt to make contact with the other male.
The hug lasts for a second longer and you ignore the butterflies that swarm your belly, deducing that he probably just wanted to hug you a bit longer.
No big deal you think as you’re screaming inside the longer you feel Mark’s arms around your waist.
When you meet Mark’s face, he allows himself to give you a tight-lipped smile.
“Mark, this is-”
“Rex! Heyy, how’s it going?” He chuckles nervously and rubs the back of his neck.
Your eyebrows furrow and you tilt your head a bit. “Yeah… wait, you guys know each other?”
Rex is enthusiast with his reply. “Fuck yeah! This is my best bro.”
He slaps Mark’s back with a confident grin and the “bro” laughs awkwardly.
You know, one of those ‘ha ha ha’ type laughs.
“Okay. So, um, Mark?”
“Yeah?” Aaand his voice cracks.
You politely ignore it but Mark wants to die inside.
“I was wondering if you were still down to go to the mall?”
Mark knows you’re attentive and take your friendships seriously, which isn’t old news. But he can’t help feeling special that’s you remembered a thought from a couple days prior.
“Only if you’ll buy me boba.”
Mark never lets you buy him anything if he can help it, and that’s how it’s always been.
You insist, he’ll deny; but that doesn’t mean his sentiment isn’t nice.
You blink and softly smile at his bargain. “Deal.”
Rex hums thoughtfully, a hand at his chin and his gaze on the sky.
“Can I join? I don’t have anything going onnn~” He suggests in a sing-song manner.
“No, you can’t!” Mark suddenly yells.
You look at Mark with furrowed brows. “Mark, don’t be rude.”
“Yeah, Mark, don’t be rude.” Rex repeats with a sly expression.
Mark deeply exhales through his nose and puts on a fake smile. “Rex, can I talk to you? Alone.”
“Sure!”
He follows Mark about 15 steps away from you.
You decide to sit down on a bench nearby and watch some TikTok to pass the time.
“Hey, so, um- quick question: what the hell are you doing here?”
Rex scoffs. “What, I can’t come visit my bro?”
Mark quirks an eyebrow and crosses his arms, unimpressed.
Rex puts his hands up in surrender. “Fine, fine. I’ll be honest. I was here to talk to you about Cecil,” He looks over at you and sighs dramatically.
“But?” Mark presses when he sees Rex eyeing you.
“I see a hot girl and I can’t help myself, you know?” He smirks knowing he’ll rile Mark up and get the exact reaction he wants.
Mark immediately gets in his line of sight, making Rex back up a bit from the fast and unforgiving wind.
“Woah, man! A little warning next time before you almost blow me away?”
Mark ignores him. “Don’t call her that.”
The truth is, Rex came to campus with a purpose.
Mark never talks about you, but Eve may have let your name slip into conversation a few times.
Rex may be aloof and jerk-ish but he’ll be serious when it’s time.
He’s seen the way Mark’s face changed every time Eve mentioned you; his head would tilt slightly, he’d have a small, unnoticeable smile on his lips.
Rex suspected a crush and he was right! Of course he was, look at the way he’s being defensive of you.
There was just one problem, he didn’t know how you looked. He asked Eve and she was suspicious, but when he revealed his own suspicions, she indulged him.
So, the two of them made a plan with Amber, William and Rick; Operation: Get Mark To Man Up and Admit His Feelings Before You Slip Away.
- FLASHBACK -
“She’s wearing a PINK t-shirt with ripped blue jeans. Oh, and a black backpack.” William directs.
“Pink shirt, black backpack, ripped blue jeans. Got it.”
“PINK as in the brand, not the color.” Amber reminds.
“Wait, what? So what color is the shirt?”
“I’m pretty sure it’s dark green..? And the logo is an even darker shade. ” Eve remembers.
Rex is so unimpressed.
“So, let me get this straight; she’s wearing a shirt from the brand PINK, but it’s just dark green?”
“I’d say you’re on the right track.” Rick chimes.
“This shit is ridiculous. I mean, seriously. Why can’t you girls just wear stuff that warrant normal descriptions?”
“Shut up, Rex.” Amber and Eve say simultaneously.
- FLASH FORWARD -
“Alright, her unwanted, meddling knight in shining armor.”
Mark is about to defend himself against that true baseless allegation when William and Rick find him.
“What’re we gossiping about?”
There’s a glint in William’s eyes, the kind you don’t miss if you’re paying attention to the very specific lilt in his tone.
“Oh, I was just telling Marky boy here,”
Mark side-eyes Rex at the ridiculous nickname.
“How he’s Y/n’s unwanted, meddling knight in shining armor.”
William claps his hands together. “That’s actually an accurate assessment.”
Mark’s offended. “Whose side are you on, anyway?”
Rick clears his throat as a guise to hide the very subtle laugh itching his throat.
“Sassy.” William says impressed in his best friends comeback skills.
Rex gets a phone call and excuses himself, giving William a crisp high-five and Rick a chest bump.
“Go get your Juliet, Romeo!” He cheers.
William shakes his head as he guffaws at the man.
“Dude, he's hilarious. How come you've never introduced him to us before?”
“Do I really have to answer that?”
William rolls his eyes at him.
“Anyways. When are you gonna tell Y/n you love her, again?”
“William!” Mark whines.
Rick smiles and expands his thinking.
“He meant to say, you should tell her soon. Before she's with someone else and leaves you to collect the pieces of your broken heart.”
“Not gonna lie, that's exactly what he needs to hear right now.”
Mark can't lie either. “Yeah. You kinda ate with that.”
William cringes and Rick winces with embarrassment.
“Hey! So, uhh, never say that again. Hope this helps.” William makes a finger heart.
“Wha- but I used the phrase correctly! Oh, come on guys, seriously?”
- MEANWHILE, WITH AMBER & EVE -
Amber and Eve thought it’d be a good idea to have a quick chat with you while you were waiting on Mark.
They casually brought up relationships and basically implied that ‘men ain’t shit’, but you disagree with that attitude.
“I dunno... Mark’s a good guy.”
“Oh yeah, for sure! Mark’s one of the good ones.”
Eve nods along to Amber’s statement.
She reminisced on her fair share with toxic relationships. She deliberately left out how it was with Rex but that’s okay, you don’t need to know that…
“Are you and Mark..?”
You feel your cheeks warm at the thought but you’d be lying if you deny your feelings for him.
“No.” You state with your head down and hands in your lap, playing with a ripped thread on your jeans.
“Huh. That’s a shame.” Eve comments.
That gets your attention.
“What do you mean?”
“It’s just that you and Mark seem…”
“Ideal.” Amber completes smoothly.
Your wide eyes and mouth agape give you away.
“You've never thought about him like that?”
You have, but how do you admit this to Mark’s coworker and friend without it getting back to him?
You think Amber and Eve are cool, they’re nice to you; but they're more Mark’s friends.
To you, they're friends of a friend.
Amber senses your hesitation and sat down next to you.
“We won’t tell anyone, if that’s what you’re wondering.”
Eve locks her lips with an imaginary key and throws it away.
That elicits a small laugh out of you, making you feel a bit more confident to share your secret.
You look over and see Mark and Rex still talking, now joined by William and Rick.
You contemplate for a moment before admitting it.
“Yeah.” You breathe out.
Eve hums in thought. “Let me guess, you don’t want to say anything in case it’ll fuck up the friendship?”
You gasp lightly at her spot-on description. “How’d you know?!”
She just shrugs nonchalantly and Amber bites her tongue to point out how obvious the entire situation is.
“I do like him, a lot... but what if he doesn’t feel the same? I would've ruined something special for something selfish and it would stay with me forever.”
You rant to the 2 girls you’re closest with and somehow, it feels right. You dismiss the thought of them turning out like the average mean girls in a teenage rom-com.
“But what if he does like you back?” Eve proposes.
“Then he’ll have to make the first move.” You shrug obviously.
“I know that’s right.”
You feel giddy from Amber’s approval.
She’s always been the type to keep it short and sweet but once you get her talking? She’ll always keep it real.
“We gotta go but we’ll see you later?”
Eve's already planning on the next hangout because she likes you enough to wanna help. She doesn’t like a lot of people so consider yourself special!
“Oh! Uh- yeah! Sure, that works with me.”
“It’s settled then.”
“See ya, Y/n.”
Coincidentally, you see the boys leave, leaving Mark to come to you.
“Shall we?”
“We shall.”
“Just let me try it.” Mark whines.
You shook your head and stood your ground. “It'll be gone in under ten seconds.”
He gasps dramatically, a hand to the heart like a lady of the opera. “You don't have faith in me?! I am a superhero-”
“I'm sure that's what they say.”
Your sarcasm isn’t foreign but he grows quiet at the remark.
It just slipped out so easily, without care or regard. You immediately try to make it right.
“I’m sorry, Mark.”
“No, no. It’s okay. You didn’t mean it like that.”
Ever the sweetheart but you refuse.
“No, it isn’t.” You stop walking. “I was careless with what I said and it’s not right.”
He looks at you with appreciation and gives you a smile. “Thank you, Y/n. It feels nice to be seen as I am.”
That both warms and saddens your heart.
You know how much he’s been through and even though you’ll never truly understand, you know he can still count on you. You’ll be there for him and that’s gotta mean something.
“Of course.”
You and Mark spend the next hour chatting and idly checking out things in the stores.
You wander into the dress and gown section and are completely in awe of the collection. Every color you can think of in every style: silky, thigh cut, halter top, strapless.
Your hands run through the material and you’re reminded of the spring formal coming up soon.
Not everyone gets the chance of going but you have a friend who extended the courtesy of inviting you and a plus one.
You recall the last time you went to a dance: your senior year of high school's prom. It was memorable. You were a part of a small group that went together; consisting of your friends.
You took photos with Mark and danced with him for a bit but not like anything you wished. There's nothing romantic about screaming club anthem lyrics while getting twerked on but since it was Mark's ass, you didn’t complain.
That was the first and last time he accepted drinks from William, by the way.
You chuckle quietly to yourself in memory of that glorious night when Mark comes up behind you.
"You ready to go or do you wanna try some of them on?"
You take another look at the gorgeous dresses and think.
Mark's hoping you say yes.
He won't admit it anytime soon and despite him already thinking you're the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen, prom night solidified that for him.
You had him starstruck.
His hear stuttered, adrenaline rushed through his veins and conjured up a swarm of butterflies in his stomach.
SImply put, every feeling and action that describes a man in awe of a pretty lady was an accurate depiction of him.
“Nah, maybe some other time.” You decide.
Mark nods, looking forward to the future dress tryouts. “Okay.”
Later, you have dinner with Mark, Oliver and Debbie.
Mark flew out and brought home some authentic pasta and garlic bread from Italy.
You rolled your eyes playfully and claimed he was being “extra” but reevaluated your statement when you thought about it.
If you could move that fast, you'd go to another country to have their finest food as well.
“It's so good to have you, honey.”
Debbie was always so nice to you, it made you feel happy and proud of yourself knowing someone's mom wholeheartedly accepts your presence in their kids life.
“It's good to be here.”
“Are you gonna stay the night?!” The purple little boy asked full of hope.
You didn't want to let him down but you had no choice.
“I'm sorry, Oliver, but not tonight.” You ruffle his hair and give him an apologetic smile.
You know he's bummed out when he doesn't sound that infectious laugh and tell you you're messing up his hair.
“Oh.”
You feel Mark's gaze on you and when you look up, he offers a sympathetic smile.
“I can stay until it's time for you to sleep.”
You know you've got him, it's an offer he can't refuse.
He's all smiles now and hugs you by the waist, his head laying on your chest.
You smile and hug him back, your head laying on his.
Mark cleans the table and Oliver takes out the trash while you help Debbie with the dishes.
“It doesn't matter how many times I say “no”, does it?”
You hum and shake your head. “Nope.”
You make small talk while you dry after she scrubs and rinses. About college, your plans after college, Mark.
“What about him?” You wonder.
“I mean, how has be been since...”
You see a look of helplessness on her face.
Debbie may be his mother but even she is not immune to the conflict of secrecy in her son's life.
You instantly feel bad.
Mark always tells you everything but to have his own mom ask you things about her son makes the situation complex.
You turn your head over your shoulder and see Mark playing a video game with his baby brother.
When Mark told you about Nolan, what happened to them on Thraxa and the events that unfolded afterwards, you didn't know how to respond.
As if hearing Nolan reveal his plans for Earth and call Debbie a “pet” wasn't heartbreaking enough, you were there with Debbie when Mark was brutally assaulted by his own father.
Then you hear of Nolan's second family he while the first one was still trying to keep it together and deal with the devastating aftermath of the biggest betrayal.
You almost cried when Mark broke down about Angstrom Levy hurting Debbie and Oliver.
You were out of the country on a field trip with your classmates when that happened. Devastated was an understatement for how you felt to hear both Mark and Debbie in the hospital from William.
Mark shamefully admitted to killing Angstrom, thinking that would sever the bond between you two. He expected you to be afraid of him, no matter how awful he’d feel about doing that to you.
It was the total opposite, you embraced him and let him cry on your shoulder. You let him feel everything but you also let him feel your hand in his.
You looked him in the eyes and told him that he did what he had to do and if killing Angstrom was the solution, then so be it.
“Mark told me everything. From seeing Mr. Grayson—”
You see a flash of hurt in Debbie's eyes at the mention of his name and almost forget that before he was known as Omni-Man, he was Mr. Grayson. He was Mark's dad.
“—again and about Oliver. Up until Angstrom and how the last thing he did was hurt you and Oliver.”
Debbie drys her hands and looks out of the window above the sink.
You can tell she’s disassociating. Her eyes seem so far away and crestfallen.
You don’t know if she’s getting much sleep but you also can’t imagine getting any if you were her.
You put a hand on her shoulder and she’s visibly shaken out of her thoughts.
“He’s gonna be okay, and so are you.”
She looks at you like you’ve lit up a candle at the end of a very dark tunnel.
Debbie leans in for a hug, eliciting a small sigh when you strengthen the embrace a little.
You figured she should feel taken care of for once.
“Thank you.”
You hear her sincerity and make a mental note to talk about this with Mark later on.
Oliver is tired out from having a “good playdate” with you and his older brother.
You tuck him in for the night per his request and can't help but feel the warmth from taking care of him touch your heart.
He's a growing boy but despite the many changes one goes through due to that constant stage of life, his feelings for you don't change.
Mark loves how much Oliver loves you. He loves seeing 2 of the most important people in his life get along so well, secretly admiring the way you've grown a soft spot in his mother's heart, too.
“They grow up so fast.” Mark attempts to humor.
You hum and try your best not to cry dwell on the bittersweetness of that phrase.
“Yeah.”
You're sitting on Mark's bed, looking fondly at the one of many drawings the kid made for you.
You softly exhale and bring up the conversation you had earlier with Debbie.
“Mark, I have something I want to talk to you about.”
He looks at you knowingly. “I know.”
Your eyes widen a bit at that revelation. “You do?”
He nods, a pursed smile on his face. “I have super hearing, remember?”
How did you forget that?
You close your eyes and exhale sharply, feeling silly for forgetting that power of his. “Right, duh.”
You don’t want to push the conversation if he’s not feeling it but you want to know if you did the right thing.
“I... didn’t overstep… right?”
“Oh, no. No, you didn’t.”
He rubs the back of his neck sheepishly. “I… haven’t had the best time talking to her about the things I say to you.”
You nod in understanding.
“I felt bad when she asked you how I’m doing. She should be able to ask me that.”
He’s guilt-stricken and it makes you feel dejected.
“Mark.” You put a comforting hand on his shoulder. “I know it’s hard talking to your mom about your inner turmoil but you’re all she has.”
Who does Debbie go to when she wants to discuss the matters of her heart? Who’ll listen when she wants someone to talk to?
“You give her the strength to carry on so let her give you some peace of mind, hm?”
Mark’s eyes shine with a strong fondness for you, his mind wiped clean of all things difficult and heart ten times lighter.
You’ve always understood him, whether he explains himself or not. You could always just know.
Your heart and emotional intelligence are perhaps his favorite things about you.
“You okay?” You ask, worried you’ve overstepped again.
“Never been better.” He promises.
A soft smile graces his lips as he leans in to hug you.
You accept it with an equal gentle expression and when you feel his arms wrap around your middle, you feel good.
Mark is invulnerable but not when it comes to the war between his mind and heart, that’s when you step in. And when you do, there’s always a resolution found in great clarity.
You feel his heartbeat above yours and unconsciously, they sync. His breathing evens out with yours.
It feels intimate, this hug.
You’ve hugged him a million times before but none of them have felt quite like this.
A heavy weight on his shoulders has evaporated and you can feel his gratitude.
“I don’t know how to thank you.” He murmurs.
You tilt your head back a bit so he can see you. “Then don’t.” You shrug, like it’s the most obvious answer.
He chuckles lightly and blinks at you, a tight-lipped smile on his face.
You’re suddenly hyper-aware of his arms loosening around you and replacing the warmth with his hands on your hips.
You subconsciously gulp and watch his eyes flicker towards your eyes, lips then back to your eyes.
You don’t know if it’s your mind playing tricks on you, but you swear he moves his head a little closer to you; just enough to barely touch noses.
Your stomach is in a frenzy and your hands feel clammy.
Is this really happening?
But then, like a switch being flipped off; he gingerly clears his throat and backs away.
You blink, catching yourself in a daze and he gets up to put on a movie.
He acts like he wasn’t just about to kiss you, as if that chemistry was just a figment of your imagination.
You don’t have the guts to say anything, to ask the obvious. So, you also pretend that you two weren’t just about to fulfill your biggest ‘what if?’ scenario.
“Oh, wow… that’s crazy.”
“I’m sorry, Y/n.”
It was nice to hear sympathies from the only people who you could afford to talk about this with. They’re also the only people who wouldn’t go and spread the telltale truth of the most embarrassing moment of your life.
“I can’t believe he fumbled this badly.” Amber facepalms herself in disbelief.
She sighs in exasperation and plops down on your bed with an arm covering her eyes.
Eve doesn’t move from her position; leaning on your wall with her arms crossed and her face in thought.
“What if he doesn’t like me like that?” You wonder aloud.
Amber peeks an eye out from under her elbow and Eve shakes her head.
“No, no, no. Trust me, that’s not it.”
“Don’t seem so sure.” You grumble as you pick at your nails to distract yourself from the heartache.
Eve sits down beside you and thinks about her words carefully. “Mark… well, I won’t defend him; he is kinda stupid.”
“Kinda?” Amber argues.
That makes you grin a bit.
“But he’s also your best friend, and you’re his. Maybe he doesn’t know how he feels but he does know that you’re not worth the risk of something he’s unsure will ever happen.”
Somehow, she put things into a perspective you’ve never thought about before.
“I never thought about it like that.”
You feel Amber sit up.
“That’s because it’s a confusing situation. Seeing both sides of the story might help you make some sense, give you consolation.”
You nod, already having potential answers to your unanswered questions. If not real answers, you’ll settle for theories. It’s still something.
“Thank you, guys.”
Amber winks at you. “Anytime.”
“Of course. We're rooting for you both.”
You shyly smile when Eve nudges your shoulder.
“So," She claps her hands together. “what should we do to commence our very first sleepover? Omegle?”
Amber is concerned for the first time at Eve’s expense.
“Umm...” You pout your lips to the side.
“I don't find the idea of accidentally getting flashed the most... thrilling.” Ambers grimaces.
“Yeah.” You nod.
Eve has a sly look on her face, one that says her proposition comes with an entertaining twist.
“Trust me, I have an idea.”
“Okay, that was pretty fun.” Amber concedes.
You laugh softly to yourself, remembering the events from the previous night.
The 3 of you decide to go out for lunch, finding the night an excellent moment for bonding.
“What was fun?”
Mark pulls a seat up at the table you're occupying.
“Mark? How'd you know we were here?” You query.
Mark looks just as confused as you but before he could answer, Eve does it for him.
“I invited him.”
“Oh. Okay.”
You don't have a problem, it's just that you thought this was gonna be “girl time” as you like to call these moments.
It would've been nice to know, at least.
Amber attempts to start up a conversation but little did you know; this conversation was a part of Eve's “idea” she mentioned the night prior.
“We went on Omegle last night.”
Mark's eyebrows raise in surprise. “Did anything happen?”
You understand the underlying message to be, “Were you victims to any unsolicited sexual advance?” and find it kind of sweet that Mark cares enough to have that be his first train of thought.
“Yeah, actually.” Eve notes as she takes a bite of her burger.
“Y/n's got herself a loverboy.”
You choke on your drink. Exploding into a fit of coughs, you hope it kills you.
Mark is quick to pat your back and try to aid in helping.
When you catch your breath, you look over at him awkwardly and thank him.
“Don't mention it.” He humbly said.
You make it a personal mission to never bring it up. Ever.
Amber continues to fuel the fire.
“Yeahhh.” She sighs. “He's Russian and was all, like, ‘Your eyes are like the ocean and I am a merman.’.” She puts on her best Russian accent and giggles when she nails it.
“Mm!” Eve makes a noise of enthusiasm, adding on to the punchline. “And then he said, ‘They are so deep, I can drown in them.’.”
“The fuck?” Mark grunts under his breath. “But mermen can swim.”
Honestly, he thought it was fucking stupid. Even if this guy was a “merman”, he'd be able to swim. Drowning is totally out of the question.
“Yeah, but it was the thought that counts.” Amber spoke before eating a fry.
“It was pretty corny.” Eve seemingly agrees with Mark.
“See?! I knew I wasn't the only one.” Mark nods to himself.
“But...”
His smile drops.
“I gotta admit, it was kind of romantic.”
Mark can't believe this.
Is romance really dead? Aren't punchlines supposed to make sense?
He knows it's only romantic because the guy's Russian. Okay, so he has an accent. So what? That should pardon his inadequacy of flirting?
“You guys only ate it up because he has an accent.”
Mark narrows his eyes as he takes a curly fry from your plate.
Amber and Eve side eye each other with mischief as they see you enter the ring.
“I thought it was kind of sweet, you know? At least he tried.” You counter.
Mark tilts his head, clearly bewildered. “You mean to say that you actually liked that?”
You don’t like his accusatory tone. “It wasn’t that bad, Mark.”
He rolls his eyes and begs to differ. “Wasn’t that bad- it made no sense! He definitely pulled that shit out of Google’s top thirty best flirty lines.” He puts air quotes around best.
“Oh, would you look at that? I actually have to go do that... thing.” Eve slowly rises from her seat.
“Yeah, me too.” Amber flashes a sweet smile.
They’re gone before you can impose.
“They really just left.” You say to no one.
Mark is still somehow going. “I just… I dunno.” He says, defeated.
“Mark, it wasn’t that deep. He liked my eyes and said some line that made me feel nice. That’s all.”
He nods like he understands but he really doesn’t.
“He’s no Mr. Darcy.” You settle as you take a sip of your milkshake.
Mark smiles at that and you’re confused.
“Why’re you smiling?”
“I knew it! I knew you couldn’t possible swoon over that ridiculous, nonsensical one-liner.”
You laugh incredulously. “Seriously, what’s your problem?”
He raises his hands in surrender. “I just knew he couldn’t be your type after that. Sure, you like them romantic but with genuine thought.”
He says that so confidently, with such attention, it makes you feel nicer than the Russian’s compliment. He makes you feel seen with that keen observation.
You nod to yourself, lowkey impressed.
“Mkay.” You simply say.
His gaze flickers towards you at the seemingly confusing, neutral response.
“What.”
“What, what?”
“You said that like you’re not convinced.”
You deeply exhale, not wanting to argue anymore. “Mkay.”
His eyes widen a bit and he snaps at you like he’s just discovered the phrase: ‘eureka!’.
“That, right there. That’s what I mean.”
You rub at your head as if you’ve got a headache but you doubt you won’t get one soon.
“Elaborate.”
You’re sticking with as little words as possible if it means to get to the point.
“Are you mad at me?” He asks with worry coating his tone.
You shake your head, unsure of what’s happening. “I just don’t know what’s gotten into you today. You’re in this strange mood to argue.”
He blinks.
You’re right.
Arguments are a rare occurrence in this relationship.
“We never argue.” He realizes regretfully.
Your eyes trail up his form and you see the uncomfortableness etched onto his outline.
“I’m sorry-”
“Sorry-”
There’s a pause, one that melts the lingering awkwardness into friendliness.
You see the hints of a smile creep up on him and instinctually, there’s one in yours.
“You first.”
Ever the gentleman.
“Sorry for making it awkward.” Your fingers interlock with each other and you give him an apologetic look.
Mark immediately shakes his head. “No, you didn’t make anything awkward… It was me. I got-”
He doesn’t speak for a few seconds, trying to find another way out of this as two thirds of his sentence has already been put out.
“You got..?”
He puts on a tight-lipped smile but it looks pained. “I just wanna say that I’m sorry for getting defensive for no reason.”
He thinks that was a good excuse for his detour but you’re smart.
“Jealous.” You say firmly.
“Huh?” He squeaks and immediately clears his throat.
“You got jealous.” You shrug your shoulders and move the whip cream in your milkshake around with the straw.
He scoffs with the intention of obscurity. “That- I- What? Pfft, jealous. Who, me?! Yeah, right.”
His stuttering erupts a snort from you, an “I told you so” fresh on the tip of your tongue.
He wanted to spout declarations of how incorrect you are but he couldn’t. The cat had his tongue.
“Whatever.” He bites with little heat.
He crosses his arms over his chest and appears to look unaffected by your ability to see through him.
“Mkay.” You hum to tease him.
Your best friend groans and you giggle at him slouching down in his seat, his hands covering his face and in turn; a sheepish grin.
You’re in your home when your TV bears awful news.
“Breaking news: intruders that look like multiple Invincibles are wreaking havoc across the globe.”
As soon as you hear that, a loud boom is heard from across the city and sends shockwaves to where you are.
“We urge you to stay in your homes and hide. Do not make contact, I repeat; don’t engage with them.”
You’re scared.
How the hell are you supposed to stay hidden in your home when there’s the start of destruction visible outside?
How can they tell you to stay inside when there’s a chance you can die in there?
It’s not like the variants aren’t gonna come inside. Who’d stop them from hurling your place of residence like a football?
Despite all of those thoughts, you stay inside.
You hide in your living room. You sigh to yourself as you hide inside a spare closet, leaving a sliver of space open to breathe.
You turn your phone’s ringer off but feel the vibrations in your pocket. You look to see who it could be and feel so much relief flood your stomach when it’s Mark.
“Mark?” You say shakily.
“Y/n? Oh, thank god. Where are you?”
Your eyes water but you keep them at bay. No point in crying over spilled milk.
“I’m in the spare closet of the living room, what’s going on?”
He starts to explain when the call abruptly cuts.
So fucking cliche you think as you the see the dead battery sign.
The sound of a window opening makes you heave out a sigh of relief.
You get out and are about to hug him but the first thing you notice when you open the door is his face. Er, the lack thereof.
“Is… this a new costume?” You ask wearily.
You didn’t know Mark had a black mask installed. It covered his whole head and the lens was turquoise blue instead of white.
He just stares at you, unflinching and scarily still.
You gulp as the realization sets in your stomach.
This isn’t the Mark of your world. This isn’t the Invincible you recognize.
The masked stranger can sense your irregular heartbeat and hear the small panicked breaths that well up in your chest.
He slowly stalks towards you; like a predator to their prey, except there’s nothing dangerous about his stance. He doesn’t radiate harm or anger and he puts his hands up, as if to show you he won’t harm you.
For your own sake, you don’t believe that. You can’t believe that’s what he wants.
You’re frozen, wide eyes filled to the brim with fear and shock.
You grip your phone tight in your hands, ready to turn it into a weapon if you must.
He’s interrupted when another one shows up.
This one has a black and yellow suit with a yellow cape.
Your eyes dart to his figure and you’re sure this one’s gonna do the honors.
“You’re alive.” He says to himself.
His eyes are covered with white lenses but you know he’s looking at you.
His hands ball up into fists and he walks to you with an urgency in his stride.
You instinctually back up and hit a wall when the masked variant gets in between you both.
“She’s scared.”
The tone in his voice almost makes you think he cares. Almost.
“Get out of my way.” The bright-caped intruder basically spat his face.
“And let youuu have all the fun? I don’t think so!”
What the fuck?
You see what looks like Mark… in a mohawk.
His lips spread into a smirk, a cocky tone in his words.
Your nails press into your arm to prevent you from sputtering out a giggle.
How are you supposed to take him seriously when he’s willingly sporting a mohawk? Right.
If you knew there was going to come a time where your home is used as some sort of Invincible convention, you would’ve moved out a long time ago.
“You’re here.”
This one scares you a little.
His demeanor may be softer but his eyes, they’re wild with a fire furling around his pupils.
What makes the fear prick at your heart is the fact that he’s wearing the Viltrumite uniform.
Wherever he came from, he became his father.
That fact chills your bones and you think, how could that happen? Why did that happen?
His wild eyes are wide with surprise and there’s the ghost of a relieved smile on his face.
Very quickly have you gone from 0 to 100.
There are 2 seemingly decent Invincibles and 2 Invincibles that give off evil vibes.
What’s better news is that they all have some sort of fascination with you.
Awesome! Fantastic, even!
Your adrenaline has taken a back seat but you’re still unnerved by the destruction just outside your neighborhood.
You’ve never wished for a quicker death as this cat and mouse game is becoming all too much. The anticipation will kill you if they don’t.
“Alright,” Mohawk Mark yawns. “Enough dickin’ around.”
The 4 variants surround you, encasing you in an otherwise unbreakable square.
“You’re coming with us.” Decides the caped crusader.
He puts his hand out to grab you but is thrown through a wall by an unstoppable force.
It feels a bit blurry after that.
You feel yourself being lifted and moving at an alarming speed, your body lurching forward and side to side by the breeze taking you.
“I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” He murmurs.
He hugs you close to his chest, a hand cradling the back of your head and the other clutching your back protectively.
“M-Mark?”
You find your voice amongst the dizziness clouding your head.
He holds your head and tilts it towards him, kissing the crown and meeting your eyes.
“Yeah, it’s me. You’re okay, you’ll be fine. Just stay here.”
You hold his wrists and blink, looking around you to find yourself with Debbie and her boyfriend, Paul.
“Please.”
Mark’s desperation appeals to you. His voice cracks with an urgency for your life. One that is begging you to listen, and you do.
“Okay.” You agree.
He nods and kisses you once again, a sweet promise pressed against your forehead.
You may have had the wind knocked out of you but that doesn’t mean you’re unaware.
Oh yeah, that kiss sobers you up real quick.
Your eyes are wide and cheeks are warm; you’re flushed and hope he doesn’t detect the jump in your heart rate because of his tenderness for you.
“Be careful.” You blurt out.
Mark looks back at you with a smirk on his face.
“I will.”
He kept his promise for the most part.
“Ow.”
“Maybe don’t move around a lot?”
“…Sorry.”
He winces as you treat his facial wounds.
Mark got pretty banged up; his left eye was swollen and purple from Conquests fists. He has similar shades of bruising on his face and a nasty cut on the bridge of his nose, another on the corner of his lip.
His arms and leg are almost fully healed.
It’s been a grueling 2 weeks.
Oliver helps out as much as he can.
Eve and the rest of the heroes are helping piece the cities back together but no matter how much they help rebuild, the atrocities committed won’t be forgotten.
Conquest was here on a personal mission and almost leveled the state because of it and roughed up Oliver pretty badly.
“I don’t know what to do.”
You hear him, you hear the things he wants to say and the things he doesn’t say out loud.
You feel so bad, so awful for him. He’s still a kid trying his hardest, doing his best.
Why can’t that be enough?
“It isn’t fair.” You respond.
His gaze turns to you.
“You do your best and when you think it’s over, the worst is still yet to come.”
Your fingers lightly touch the one of many bruises on his cheek, his eyes close at the contact.
“I can’t imagine how many times you’ve had pieces of you broken for us but it’s a sacrifice that unfortunately comes with the job.”
It hurt your heart, saying the second part.
Hard truths are a pill you’ll always find difficult to give.
He sharply inhales and the tears he tried so hard holding, come pouring down. Soft sobs and wails plague his throat.
His head falls atop your chest and his hands wrap around your middle, clinging to your shirt.
Your arms wrap around his shoulders and you do your best to ground him, to be his anchor.
His mental state is unimaginable, the thought of him slipping away has been a reoccurring nightmare for you but you push through. You have to.
“So many people died.”
The death toll worldwide was into the hundreds of thousands. That was the doing of the variants but Mark was inadvertently responsible, too.
It breaks your heart at how unfair this all is.
A Viltrumite’s personal vendetta against Mark resulted in such catastrophe.
Scott -also known as Powerplex- fried his only family left and somehow thinks that is also Mark’s fault.
As if the Chicago Incident wasn’t enough, there was almost a Chicago Incident Part 2 had it not been for Eve.
“You can’t blame yourself Angstrom’s doing.” You try to reason.
Mark shakes his head and gets up.
“I thought I killed him, but I should’ve been sure. I should’ve finished the job.”
Mark palms at his wet eyes, sniffling lightly as he calms down.
You don’t know what to do, you don’t know what to say.
You don’t want him to wallow in this pain by himself but you also don’t want to say something wrong.
“You should leave.” His cold tone and neutral face really sells it.
You’re confused. “What? I’m sorry, was it something I said? Or did?”
You’ve never seen him like this and are worried the wretched day you’ve been imagining is finally here.
“No. I just want you to go.”
You watch his fists bunch up the material of his joggers on his knees and the veins protruding from his hands.
“I…”
You want to say something, you want to stay for him but you can’t. You know it’d only make things worse.
So you just nod and whisper a meek, “Okay.”.
Mark still isn’t looking at you when you make your way to the door. His face still expressionless, calculated, distant.
Your fingers reach for the handle when you hear him.
“Y/n?”
It’s embarrassing how quick hope flashes in your eyes at the sound of him saying your name.
You try to suppress the obvious reaction as much as possible.
“Yeah?”
It still seeps through your voice but you’re human.
Your emotions are a part of you, even if they end up being a helping hand to your disappointment.
You don’t see the pool of guilt swirl around in his almost annoyed eyes but maybe it’s for the better.
He stares at you and feels bad but after everything that’s happened, is it worth keeping you in his life?
He wants to tell you so badly what’s making him push you away.
Sure, William is his best friend but you’re so much more. You’re a part of him, you’re his soulmate.
Mark wants nothing more than to see you happy but he ultimately decides that it’s nothing compared to seeing you alive.
“Can you close my door all the way?” He begrudgingly says.
The average person would blame him for pushing you away, him getting your hopes up only to crush them so inadvertently cruelly.
But you only chastise yourself.
You want him to know that despite people like Scott or Angstrom; who put the blame on wrong people for their circumstantial demise, there's people like you and Debbie.
He has a support system ready to recharge him but maybe you were overcharging him?
You go to sleep in tears, crying silently to yourself over how fucked life is.
Mark doesn't sleep the whole night, knowing he can hear your heart break.
It's been a slow week.
You don't talk to anyone or do things you used to; only getting up to go to class and eat, do some occasional grocery shopping.
You make an excuse for Amber and Eve when they text you to meet up and watch their caller ID's flash across your phone before it rings all the way through.
Mark hasn't spoken to you at all. No call, no text.
Despite him quitting school, you used to see him all the time on campus. Whether it be for you or William or Rick.
Now, you don't meet with anyone.
“She doesn't wanna talk to me or Amber anymore.” Eve voiced one day.
"Nor us." Rick pointed towards him and William.
“Something’s wrong. I'm worried about her.” Amber adds as she comes across the last message you sent in the group chat with her and Eve.
hey guys, just going through the flu rn. i’m fine tho! no worries :)
But of course they worried. They're your friends and that's what friends do.
Which is exactly what they said when they arrived at your doorstep, so you can't afford another excuse.
Your duo sits on your bed, trying to come up with a solution to best help you out.
“He’s closed off and maybe that was expected, but it's been a week.” Amber says.
“Yeah, you'd think he'd open up by now.”
You sigh pitifully and look out your window and down the street.
You’re a 10 minute drive and he’s a 1 minute flight away, yet nobody is willing to close that distance.
“It should be him, though.” Eve says.
“Hm?” You hum absentmindedly.
“Mark should be the one to come talk to you, not the other way around.”
Eve gauges for a reaction from you, one that will oppose her idea.
“Maybe you should go.” She switches up.
You look at Eve hesitantly, like it's a flop idea.
“You tried, Y/n. You did your part and he let you know but this isn’t the way things between you should end. Should he want it to end.”
It's like Amber knew what you were thinking and tried to dismiss the thought for you.
You weren't gonna lie and say that you haven't thought about blowing up his phone, driving to his house and banging on his door to open up to you.
But would he even want to? Would he even listen?
“It's not about what he wants, it's about what he needs.”
“And what he needs right now, is you.”
- MEANWHILE, WITH WILLIAM, RICK & REX -
“Come on, man. Don't be like this.” William tries.
Rick can see how much Mark is beating himself up over everything that’s happened.
With the fight against Liu’s dragon and Powerplex. And now recently, Conquest.
Mark never complained, it was the job. But you made getting back out on the field a bit easier.
“It's not worth losing her.” Rick gently reminds.
Mark's trio of lending hands have come to his service but it's unwanted, and Mark lets them know.
“Look, I don't need this. Especially not right now.”
This makes Rex mad.
“Oh you don’t need this? Well, excuseee me! We don’t need you to be so goddamn stupid, especially not right now.”
Mark narrows his eyes, visibly agitated. “Stupid? I’m being stupid?”
Rex widens his eyes, his pitch growing higher. “Yeah! That’s what I said.”
“Okay, I think we’re elevating the situation so let’s all just calm down.” William suggests nervously.
Mark has other thoughts as he rises from the bed. “And how exactly am I being stupid?”
Rex knows he shouldn’t be egging him on, he shouldn’t be encouraging his anger; but if this was the way to make his friend see his foolishness then so be it.
“By distancing yourself from the one woman who’s nice enough to let you, instead of manning up and telling her how you really feel.”
That stung.
“You don’t get to tell me how to handle my love life.”
Rex smirks lazily, a hardball on the tip of his tongue. “You don’t even have the balls to have one.”
“Rex.” William warns.
The cheeky bastard ignores him and continues on, a bit excited to see where this would all lead.
“I think she’d want a man who sees her, who doesn’t hurt her by ignoring her entire existence.”
Rick facepalms himself and wonders where the line between bravery and stupid was drawn.
Mark’s knuckles are white from how hard his fingers are curling in on themselves, his fists ready to pound into the explosive asshole.
Rex steps closer, now toe-to-toe with Mark and ignorantly unafraid. “I wouldn’t make her wait.”
Mark punches him right in the mouth, hard.
“Mark!” The yell of his friends fall on deaf ears.
Rex grunts as he stumbles back a bit, expecting this outcome.
“You don’t know her. You don’t know what’s good for her.” Mark spits bitterly.
Rex spits some blood out, sighing heavily. “You do.”
That makes Mark soften up.
He blinks like he’s snapped out of a trance. His fist wavers and is set down beside his thigh, a deep sigh exiting his nose. He looks at his friend and witnesses the ugly truth; his jealousy won.
“What am I doing?” He whispers.
Rex coughs lightly, the cut on his lip stinging.
“Talk to her, Mark. Don’t let her live with the regret of not knowing.”
Rick puts a sympathetic hand on his shoulder, hoping this will finally tip him over the edge.
Rex comes off the wall, slapping Mark’s back with a warm pat.
“I’m sorry, Rex. I shouldn’t have-”
He dismisses him with a wave. “Nah, I was being an asshole. An asshole on purpose, but still an asshole.”
Deep breath in, deep breath out.
You’re gathering the courage to mull over the most impactful relationship in your life.
Is there even a correct way to do that?
You don’t know, but what you do know is that you have to try.
You look yourself in the mirror and feel the weight of your younger self.
She’d be devastated. you think. If she were here in the flesh to see this, you don’t think she could withstand it.
A sharp knock to your door pulls you out of your head.
You’re not expecting anyone, and you’re unsure about the one person you did want to hear from.
Regardless, you walk over and open the door and your heart drops out of your ass. Not in fear, but in surprise.
“Mark.” You breathe.
Here he is; in the flesh and without the scowl you picture. In fact, he looks guilty.
His once glee-filled eyes are now empty of it, making you reminisce the time before last week.
“Can I come in?”
His voice resounding of forlorn hope. He expects you to deny him, to make him walk away with his hands held in a helpless prayer.
Instead, you show him mercy and welcome him inside your place of refuge.
Tentatively, he makes his way inside and awkwardly stands beside your desk.
You’re quiet, still trying to process his presence after an entire week of radio silence.
You don’t know how to feel. Should you be happy? Ecstatic? If anything, frustrated and hurt are also a great couple of options.
“Y/n?”
You look up at him and see his concerned face. “Hm?”
“I asked if we can talk.”
“Now you want to talk?” It came out before you could even think about it.
Your annoyance seeps through and he shuffles the weight on his feet a bit uncomfortably.
“I know-”
“No, you don’t.”
He looks at you like you just told him to kill himself.
“Y/n, please. Just hear me out.”
Your arms are crossed over your chest in a defensive position, he clocks that. He also notices the way you make eye contact with him throughout your sentences.
You were really hurt, he gathers.
He takes your silence as a sign to continue talking.
“After I left you at Paul’s, I went back out there and fought off the rest of those… variants. While I was fighting them, they told me about you.”
Your interest is absolutely peaked now.
“What do you mean?”
“They... they said that you existed in their world but-” He cuts himself off with a vexed sigh.
“But what, Mark.”
You want, need to know what was worth hurting you for days on end.
Mark looks at you and it's the most disheartened he's looked since that night he told you to leave.
“You died, Y/n.”
It all makes sense now. You grapple with the stomach-churning epiphany of the century.
The different Invincibles that wanted to take you was simply because you ceased to exist in their worlds.
“I... I died in every single universe.”
He takes some steps in your direction, not wanting to overwhelm you.
“You either died on accident by being murdered among civilians or you killed yourself.”
“Why would I commit suicide?”
He deeply inhales. “Because you'd rather die than join the other me.”
That sounds on brand.
“I couldn't live with myself knowing I'd lose you in this world, too.” He admits raspily.
That touches your heart.
You want to hug him, to comfort him but you're still kind of confused. You needed more answers.
“I was so scared, I had never felt fear like I did when I saw them with you.” He whispers.
“Why'd you tell me to leave?” You ask gently.
“Because I love you.”
His confession is so light, said with such helplessness, that you tear up.
Mark maintains eye contact with you, tired of hiding his true self. He wants you to see him.
“So many people have died because of me, it may not be directly my fault, but it still had to do with me.”
He comes a little closer, just a couple of steps away from touching you.
“What if I was too late that day? What if they managed to take you away?” He mutters in a hushed tone.
Mark shakes his head as if to get rid of those thoughts.
“If anything happens to you, it will be because of me.”
“So, you thought it was best to create such a large gap between us, that there'd be a sinking hole inside of me. Is that it?”
Your eyes well up against your will but you can't bring yourself to care. Not when he can finally see just how much you've been suffering.
“You think I wanted to do that?” He asks defensively.
You scoff indignantly. “I think you could've told me from the jump. That's what I think.”
You know it's a little unfair given how vulnerable he's being right now but he was unfair when you were vulnerable, too.
He shakes his head, eyes closing in on themselves as his tears threaten to fall. “I can't risk your life, Y/n! Why don't you understand that?”
You messily wipe your tears, your lashes wet and nose tinged with the lightest of reds.
“All this time, you didn't have a problem with how close we were. Now that you saw how close I was to something dangerous, it got too real for you?!”
He's in your space now, his chin set down and eyes on yours.
Contrary to how mad he looks, he relays his message in an low tone. “Yeah. It did.”
Your eyes widen a bit at the length he's cut between your bodies and you're back in time. You go back to the moment he almost kissed you.
“Don't push me away, Mark.”
You beg him and you don't care if you look pathetic. You love him and don't want to lose him like this.
Mark just presses his forehead against yours and shuts his eyes, he concentrates on you. Your smell, your hushed breaths, your heartbeat.
You feel his hands slide up and down your arms, grounding you.
Even when he's opening up to you, Mark still chooses to comfort you. He still wants to calm you down, to make you feel better. He still chooses to have your best interests at heart.
“I came here to tell you the truth, that you deserve better.”
You wordlessly deny his idea, shaking your head once.
He grabs ahold of your head, making you look at him.
You see it all, you see all of his pain, grief, anger.
“I love you but you're not safe with me.”
“You don't get to make my decision for me.” You stubbornly point out.
“Y/n-”
“I love you.” A shaky whisper snuck into the air between your lips.
His wide eyes stare back at yours in surprise.
“I've loved you for a long time and I don't wanna be in love with another.” You wrap your hands around his, feeling the warmth bloom onto your cold ones.
“Please. Please don't ask me to stay away from you.” You cry.
He kisses your head and brings you close, your head on his shoulder and slotting between his bicep and forearm. He curls his other arm around your waist and lays his head on yours.
“Okay, fine.” He fondly agrees. “You win so stop crying.”
“Fuck you.” You jab.
He airily laughs and brings your face close to his, pressing an equally feathery kiss to your lips.
You timidly kiss him, shying away a little to breathe but Mark wants you to take his breath if you must. He pulls you in, hands gripping your hips and pulling you flush against him, wanting to shape a new mold from your figures.
Your fingers nervously brush his hair and he groans at the contact.
You chuckle at the sound and he pulls away leaving a soft peck.
He's in a daze and has hearts in his eyes but he ultimately decides; he wouldn't want it any other way.

"You know, that baby looks a lot like you." Mark hums softly, attention shifting between the toddler that stands between Rex's muscular thighs, chubby hands gripping the fabric of his sweatpants and green eyes stare up at him.
Rex's gaze lowers to meet Winnie's, wide eyes that mirror his own staring at the ice-cream cone in his hand, rosy lips wetting themselves with a pink tongue as she shifts on her tiny feet.
He does see the resemblance a bit. In her mannerisms, her appearance. Shit, even the way she instinctively shows Cecil her index finger whenever he walks into the room. Rex knows that's not the finger she wants to show.
"Nahh." Rex dismisses, lowering the treat just enough for Winnie's hand to grip at his wrist, unsteady legs keeping her up as she licks at the cone. "It's cause me and her mom are close. It's like when your cat start to look like you."
"Babies aren't cats, Rex." Mark deadpans, slender fingers tapping on his thigh as he stares at Winnie.
"Do you know who her dad is yet?"
Rex shakes his head, his pudgy thumb wiping away the smears of strawberry ice-cream before looking back towards Mark.
Before shrugging his broad shoulders.
"Doesn't matter. I'm basically her fun uncle." Rex boasts before looking down at Winnie, dimples deep in his honeyed cheeks, green eyes sparkling. "Ain't I, tubby?"
"Dlickwee!" Winnie giggles.
"Don't call me a dickweed, you dyslexic shit."
"Rex, she's a baby!" Mark defends, hands hooking underneath Winnie's chubby arms, tugging her up into the air before ultimately settling her on his thigh, chonky fists immediately moving to tug on the collar of his shirt.
"When are you gonna tell him?" Sam's voice is quiet, turning away from where Rex has Winnie cradled and she stares at you, shovelling spoonfuls of ice cream into your mouth.
"I kinda wanna watch him figure it out himself." You speak through a full mouth, before looking back towards Rex.
"He'd make such a good dad if he wasn't....you know..." "Slow?"
Kate interjects, gaze lifting from her book and you purse your lips, reluctantly nodding your head.
"So, are you like, around all the time?" Mark questions, attention divided between where Winnie toys with the chain around his neck, and where Rex is lounged, one muscular leg extended over the armrest of the sofa and the other foot planted on the carpeted floor.
"Mhm." Rex hums. "I basically live there. You know, cause the kid's dad's a fucking deadbeat."
And Mark scratches the back of his neck, almost awkwardly, gaze shifting.
"Yeah, well, you know, he might... Not know he has a kid." Mark mumbles and Rex shifts, green eyes regarding Mark with a scrutinizing gaze. Before looking between him and Winnie.
The way how she's always been so affectionate with Mark, excitedly clapping whenever she sees 'Unca Mar'. And Rex sucks on his teeth, brows furrowing with suspicion.
"Real fuckin weird thing to say. Defending a deadbeat." And Rex shifts, elbows resting on his knees and he leans forward.
"You got a confession, dickhead?"
"Wha— No. No. She's not my k— I've never even had sex with anyone other than Sam."
And Rex snorts.
"Real sad confession, buddy."
𓈒⋆⑅˚₊୨💥୧₊˚⑅⋆𓈒
There's no way to explain the demonic horniness that shrouds you like a thick mist when you see the way Rex gently brushes Winnie hair, bristles gentle against her soft strands and she simply keeps her gaze focused on the toy in her hands.
Beside him, lay an assortment of different hair accessories. Glittery hair ties, elastics, bows, and an assortment of clips, all decorated with various yellow things. Plastic gummy bears, bananas, stars, hearts. Everything that came from a superhero salary in her favourite colour.
"Okay, Pooh, what's the look for today?" Rex questions Winnie, brilliant green gaze focused on her, her small body settled between his muscular thighs, the sleeves of his T-shirt rolled up to the apex of forearm.
Veins bulge beneath the surface of the skin, scaling all the way up to wear the bunched fabric rests, wrists decorated with an assortment of jewellery. Namely black bands, brown beads and one very yellow friendship bracelet. Big, chunky beads that look jelly-ish, puffy letters that read 'WINNIE'.
Winnie babbles incoherently, pitch varying as her chubby hands continue to twist and turn the cube in her hands. Trying to assemble the colours in order.
"Hm.. s'thinking pigtails too. To minimise your mom's forehead genes." Rex snickers. "Dome headed."
And Rex divides the hair, carefully putting her hair in pretty pigtails like he's done many, many times before. Yellow decorates that gingery hair, green eyes obscured by yellow star-framed sunglasses and he waits until she lets out that squeal at her reflection before setting her down on the floor.
And she scrambles out of the room, excitedly, and Rex lets out a groan, arms stretching overhead before glancing towards you.
"Fuckin creep." He mocks, barely ducking the folded towel that's meant to collide with the back of his head.
"Fuck you. My forehead's normal sized." You defend, before shuffling properly into the bedroom, arms crossed over your chest and like clockwork, Rex's warm, warm hands move to grasp your hips, tugging you onto him unapologetically.
Your knees dig into the mattress on either side of him, your ass planted on his lower belly and your hands move towards bracing yourself on his chest. And Rex snorts.
"Muscle memory, huh?"
And you suck your teeth, rolling your eyes as you grab for the excess clips, sliding them into Rex's hair, your fingers carding through the tangerine strands, watching the way the silky tresses slip from your grasp with ease.
Rex swallows, gaze locked on your face. Taking in that wide eyed expression, perfect lips pursed in concentration as you continue to fuss with his hair, gorgeous eyes framed by the prettiest and longest lashes. And Rex's tongue brushes across his bottom lip, before he shifts beneath you.
And he just keeps staring.
Not only because you're just... So pretty to him, but he's looking. Really, really looking. He can see where Winnie gets her expressions. Pretty lashes with your eyes, that same... Thoughtless look behind them. God, it's like the lights are on but there's no one home.
His thumbs brush over your hip bones, the soft skin exposed by where your shirt rode up and Rex inhales sharply when he feels the way your thighs twitch at his sides.
And he's trying so hard to not look at your tits, pressed flush against the fabric of your shirt. God, pregnancy did you good.
"There's something we need to talk about later." Rex murmurs, swallowing down and he watches the way your movements halt, brows scrunching in confusion.
"Why can't we talk about it now?" You question.
"Because you might get mad and I don't wanna argue in front of the kid." Rex breathes out. "Not good for the developmental shit."
𓈒⋆⑅˚₊୨💥୧₊˚⑅⋆𓈒
Immediately when Winnie's with Mark and Sam, Rex is letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding and he's setting you down on the sofa.
Taking the seat across from you, and he crosses his arms over his chest, thick thighs spread and he leans back, doing the hip thing. You try to not focus on the bulge in the front of his sweatpants, and instead, on his face.
"What'd—"
"I wanna adopt Winnie."
It feels like a weight in your belly. Heavy, pointy edges poking into your intestines and you swallow, fingers fidgeting. And honestly, you don't know what's worse.
The fact that you'll have to admit the obvious truth, or the fact that either way, you'll be stuck with Rex indefinitely.
"I'm basically her dad already. I sleep here, I get her ready in the mornings, I feed her, I buy her that stupid Lab— what the fuck even is that?"
"It's a Labubu." "Well, it's La-expensive as fuck. Why can't she just play with socks like I did when I was a kid?" Rex huffs, and your brows raise.
"Was CPS ever called?"
"This isn't about me." And Rex inhales sharply. "I wanna... Officially co-parent Winnie. Like... As her dad and not her... fun uncle."
And you swallow.
"Rex... " You speak so softly, your fingers fiddling and you keep your gaze lowered.
"You remember... That one time in Cecil's office?"
"Which one? There were," He snorts, "quite a few times in Cecil's office."
"When... You were like, really depressed and you were kinda desperate, even though we were mad at each other. And like, you called me and I came and—"
"Oh, you came. You came three times." Rex boasts, before shifting in his seat. "But what about it?"
This is nerve wrecking. You'd think a former assassin would be a smart guy but no. Rex is dumber than a bag of rocks.
"Well... We didn't use a condom. And you didn't... Pull out either, because I didn't wanna make a mess and—"
And Rex's expression darkens. Brows form a deep frown, his jaw clenches and you're preparing for him to... Well, blow. Especially when you see that low, almost angelic glow beneath his skin and Rex takes a deep breath.
"I have a fucking kid and you didn't think to tell me?" Rex grits, blunt nails digging into his biceps as he tries to reign in the anger that's settling at the pit of his belly.
He's just mad that you didn't tell him.
"I thought you'd know by now." You murmur. "You sleep over a lot, she looks like you, she acts like you."
"I thought it's like fucking cats!" Rex groans, hands moving to card through his hair, muscular fingers tugging his hairtie off and he takes a deep breath.
"Rex, you haven't not been here, for the last two years. Are you even fucking?" You question.
"No, because— oh shit, I'm a dad." Rex mumbles, the reality sinking in. "...and I'm not beating her."
"I think you're still eligible for me to call CPS."
Rex doesn't really know how he didn't put it together as soon as Winnie popped out of you.
Literally.
He was in the delivery room, fingers laced with yours, wiping away the sweat from your hairline and making sure you didn't pass out from exertion.
He should've known when you tested her name out on your tongue, murmuring 'Winnie Sloan' as she nursed from you. And he definitely should've put two and two together when he found himself attending Daddy & Me classes.
Fuck. You'd even hummed 'she has your eyes' offhandedly as you fell asleep, in his arms.
𓈒⋆⑅˚₊୨💥୧₊˚⑅⋆𓈒
"I'm gonna watch a movie. You wanna watch?" Rex leans against the doorframe, arms folding across his chest, muscles bulge and green eyes watch you avidly as you pull a T-shirt over your head.
"What're you watching?" You question softly,
"The Mummy." Rex hums. "Brendan Frasier's one."
And it isn't even long before you're curled up, Rex's arms wrapped around your waist, his face pressed against the curve of your neck and his eyes are basically shut.
Even breaths leave him, his body warm against yours, your legs entangled and his palm remains splayed across the soft flesh of your belly, tucked away behind the fabric of your thin T-shirt.
"You want me to turn the movie off?" You ask softly, shifting a bit closer to Rex and he shakes his head.
"Hm-hm... m'listening, baby."
His voice is a low, sleepy rumble, body pressed so firmly against yours only for his lips to ghost the curve of your shoulder, the ball of his nose pressing against your pulse.
"..you smell good..." Rex mumbles lazily. "...really good."
And he shifts behind you, his free hand moving from being tucked beneath you, and instead, moving to your inner thigh. He guides your legs to part, calloused fingertips pressing into the soft flesh as he shifts your body, until your thigh's tossed over his legs.
And his hand nestles between your thighs, warm palm pressing against your even warmer cunt and he coos sleepily. Flimsy panties do nothing to tamper with your sensitivity, and Rex lets out a sleepy breath.
"I haven't had sex in two years."
Rex's voice is lazily, a sleepy murmur that's nearly drowned out by how fast the blood is rushing in your ears, your breaths just a bit uneven as his fingers press against your clit. Softly, gently. Circling the bud as his half-asleep brain pieces together the words.
And you nod your head, trying your hardest to keep your mind easy and clear, your chest heaving.
"You're gonna let me fuck you right?" Rex breathes out, pressing lazy kisses against the skin of your neck, his fingers tugging your soaked gusset aside, before dragging along your cunt. Slick fingers trace your slippery slit and he lets out a breath.
"Right, baby?" He murmurs softly. "You gonna let me fuck you nasty?"
And two fingers plunge into your cunt, warmth blossoming in your belly and if feels like electricity's crackling just behind your mound with each flutter of his fingers. And you nod your head, weakly.
"Uh huh?" Rex coos softly. "You gonna let me?"
There's nothing that's preparing you for the way that his fingers are fucking into you, curling against all the right spots while his other hand cups your chest, thumbing over your nipple until it pebbles beneath his thumb.
"Mhm... m'gonna let you..."
𓈒⋆⑅˚₊୨💥୧₊˚⑅⋆𓈒
And by God, do you let him.
Nothing prepares you for the way his cock bullies it's way into your cunt, your back arched like a fucking cat, cheek pressed against the pillow and your hands grip the sheets.
And Rex's hands move to palm the fleshy globes of your ass, spreading them just so he can watch your drooling pussy swallow him whole, inch by inch. Nothing separating you, and Rex's plump bottom lip is wedged between his pearly teeth as he watches that unexplored hole clench and flutter.
And he rolls his hips against yours, cock sloppily kissing your cervix and smearing precum against your walls, his gaze remaining locked on that pretty, furled target.
"God, you're so fuckin sexy..." Rex breathes out, hands moving to grasp your hips instead, pulling you back to meet each brutally slow thrust of his hips.
You're so warm, gooey walls fluttering around every inch and vein, slick oozing down your inner thighs and you're breathing heavy. Sounds muffled by the pillow, the fat of your ass bounces off his hips and he watches as one of your hands weakly attempts to reach behind you, fingertips ghosting over his lower belly to push him away.
"Rex...." You whine. "S'too deep.."
"Move your fucking hand." Rex grunts, one of his hands moving to pin your hand at the small of your back, and he watches your other hand move, reaching out towards the headboard instead.
And the glimpse of faint scratches against the headboard makes his head spin in that way that has him letting out a weak whine, leaning over you to grasp at the headboard. The muscles in his forearm flexes with his grip, his hips snapping unforgivingly against your ass until your cheeks burn red.
His other hand presses down in the centre of your back, forcing your back into an even deeper arch, listening to the way your moans are muffled.
Your cheeks are deeply flushed, skin glistening with a thin sheen and Rex pants, brows knitting into a frown when he feels your walls flutter and spasm, almost uncontrollably.
And he pulls back, until only his fat, mushroom-y tip remains buried in your warm cunt and your holes flutter when you feel the way he spits on your cunt, before pushing back inside.
And before you know it, you're coming around his cock, a frothy ring forming around the base of him, and he moans.
"That's it, baby. Come for daddy." Rex groans. "Be my nasty girl."
Rex has you in a fucking headlock before your brain's come down from your orgasm.
Your throat nestled in the crook of his elbow, bulging bicep against the side of your face and his weight is pressing you into the mattress, hips rutting wildly and his teeth are sinking into your shoulder.
And Rex is fucking you like an animal.
Groaning against your shoulder, weighing you down until your knees are weak and threatening to give out beneath you and he presses a kiss to that spot just behind your ear.
His voice low and just a bit hoarse.
"Let's see if I can make you remember..." He takes a deep breath, hips grinding against yours and you feel the way his cock twitches,
"who's your daddy."

“Can you give me a minute to warm u—“
“Warm up?!” You huffed loudly, quickly sitting up from your laying position. Your eyes bore into the man between your legs, spotting the way he so stupidly sat there with his tongue partially past his lips, eyebrows furrowed a little in annoyance.
The situation was odd in the simplest terms, weird at worst. Currently you found yourself in nothing but a tshirt, completely bare from the waist down whilst your close friend Rex Splode was at his knees towards the edge of the bed, attempting to eat you out.
It was no secret Rex was selfish at times; a dickhead, cheater, just a boundless amount of certain emotions wrapped into one. But luckily, he was trying to change, trying to outgrow the old Rex Sloan into a person worth being around.
And well, one of those steps was learning how to be.. less selfish during sex.
That’s where you came in. Given the two of you were pretty close — and pretty platonic, up until this point — Rex was able to come to you about his personal dilemma, practically begging to practice on you with the promise of buying you whatever you wanted; no matter the price.
It took a moment for you to give in, but something about that pretty face screwed up into a begging pout was enough. And it couldn’t be that bad, right?
Except, the man has done nothing spectacular since he started. He avoided your clit like the plague, did nothing special with his tongue, and nearly bruised your walls with the unnecessary speed of his fingers.
You flopped back onto your bed, groaning softly. “Warm up..” You repeated in soft disbelief, leaning to rest your cheek against the blankets.
“— no wonder Eve dropped your sorry a— OW!”
You shot up once again, glaring daggers at the man, “You did not just fucking bite my thigh.”
“Serves you right.” Rex grumbled, though rubbing his thumb across the bite mark as if to soothe you. He leaned his cheek against your opposite thigh, eyes trailing to focus on your face.
“Just tell me what to do. That was the entire point of me coming to you.”
Your gaze trailed back to the man, silent for a few moments before releasing a little sigh. You shouldn’t be too hard on him, despite how silly the situation seemed, this was Rex’s odd way of being better. In his own, little, very odd way.
“Well first..” You begun, adjusting your hips to catch his attention. Your legs slid open a little wider, gliding your fingers across your thighs. “Don’t immediately jump to fingers, use your tongue— you’re supposed to warm the girl up.”
Rex was quick to obey your instructions, hands finding your thighs whilst leaning closer. His tongue slowly slid out from his mouth, gliding across your folds, the tip parting them to drag against your little bud. The act was experimental, Rex clearly taking your words to heart; something you found quite cute in the moment.
Resident douche bag Rex Sloan sitting here so patiently and sweetly, eyes on you and eyebrows lifted as he awaited your next request.
Your hand rose, finding a strand from his loose bun, curling it around your finger.
“Keep doing that, focus on my clit too..” Your voice trailed the moment he gave you another lick, dragging the fat of his tongue along your slick cunt. Soft squelches begun to rise in the air as he continued, his shallow breathing fanning against you with each moment that passed.
Unlike before, Rex didn’t rush, throughly taking his time in pleasuring your body. The complete 180 had you reacting much more positively then before, sinking into the bed as the pleasure bloomed from little sparks to strikes down your spine the moment his lips wrapped around your clit.
You couldn’t help the way your thighs jolted, threatening to squeeze his head into place. Large hands spread along your warm skin, carefully taking your thighs into his palms and keeping them steady and wide.
“Shiiiit...” Your voice dragged, taking your shirt in your hands for a gentle grip. Gentle was his lips and tongue, circulating your little bud swollen, sucking even softer— your arousal pooled from within down to your taint.
A growing mess that Rex was slowly getting proud of.
His eyes dragged up your body to your face, noticing the way your eyelids rested low on your eyes, lips parted as a mix of soft breathing and quiet moans escaped. Rex’s hand adjusted, allowing his thumb to rub little circles along your labia, slowly removing his lips from your swollen button with a soft pop.
“Looks like I’m actually doing something right, huh?”
It was just like him to tease you at a time like this, lips slick with your mess and his saliva curled into the most devious little smile.
Your eyebrows pushed close, mouth opening a little wider to tell him off, only for the man to lean back down to your clit, returning to his previous ministrations.
“What’s the next step, baby?”
The words were muttered right into your wetness, eyes completely focused on your face and awaiting your command.
Your stomach was clenching into knots, hand moving over to his hair to hold instead of your own shirt.
“Just… ke—keep doing that..” You whined loudly the moment his teeth ever so gently dragged across your clit, a swear escaping you in the process.
His confidence was thriving at this point, and something else as well…. Rex Sloan didn’t put much thought into coming to you, none at all, actually. In his mind, it was nothing more than a friend teaching another how to beat a level to a game.
Nothing more right?
Except, here Rex was with his mouth right on your pretty cunt, feeling his dick twitch with every moan that escaped you. And it sure didn’t help every so often the sweetest Rex, would escape your throat; soft, as if you didn’t want him to hear at all.
That simple conclusion caused just a pinch of annoyance.
A hand of Rex’s moved, two fingers being dragged against your wet slit for a couple seconds before they slowly pushed into your fluttering hole. The man watched you carefully, watching as your eyes shut, a groan escaping your throat.
And with a single curl of his fingers, Rex was getting exactly what he wants.
“Rex, fuck!” You cried out, quick whines soon following. Your legs shook and twitched, you were trying so desperately not to crush his head but as he started to thrust his fingers; pushing at your velvety walls in slick squelches, your will was draining slowly.
You slowly sat up, leaning onto your hands and glancing down at the man with glossy eyes.
“Y—you’re good now.. you do—“ Your teeth dragged across your bottom lip, attempting to shake off the pleasure to get through your sentence. The man wasn’t even focused on you, his fingers and mouth continuing to ruin you utterly and completely. You rested on a single hand, reaching down with the other to uselessly push at his forehead.
“— don’t.. have to finish. Fu—fuck, Rex!”
The pads of his fingers were striking that little spongy spot with each thrust, thick appendages scissoring inside, rubbing against your walls so deliciously you were seeing the back of your skull and stars in one fell swoop. Your words were falling on deaf ears, or rather— ears that couldn’t give that much of damn.
Rex was quick to raise his freehand, pressing it against your stomach and effectively pushing you back to your mattress. You squirmed for a moment before quickly realizing the man didn’t work out for nothing, given he kept you seated completely without even trying.
“C—can’t take.. it, Rex— fuck!”
For the first time in a while Rex was moving away, even if just an inch — bated breath fanning across your cunt — as he released a simple;
“C’mon mama.. let me finish. I can’t half-ass end my lesson without at least getting a grade.”
You wanted to kick him, slap, everything— basically hearing that cocky grin dripping from every word. Instead you could only gasp, feeling him latch his mouth right back to your little button with much more vigor then before, little tears pricking at the corner of your eyes.
With both hands you were tugging at his hair, ruining his bun as brown strands tickled your heated skin. Coupled with this, your hips lifted off the bed, driving your pussy right into your face as desperation collected right at the pit of your tummy.
Rex couldn’t help but groan into your wet sex, muttering a soft Fuck my face, [Name] right into you, the vibrations of his words just adding to the already overwhelming pleasure.
You felt that band coming quickly, threatening to pop the longer time went on. And with how hard you were clenching, you knew your end would be intense.
Rex was quick to mutter soft encouragements right into you the moment he noticed how harshly you were clenching, sucking in his fingers so much as if you didn’t wish to let go. The man couldn’t help but grunt the moment the hold on his hair tightened, cock straining at his pants, him wondering if he could come untouched— off your tastes alone.
His name escaped you in one final pleasure filled bellow, coming all over his face and practically locking him into place with your legs. Rex didn’t seem to mind, licking you up, helping you ride out your orgasm perfectly.
Your legs shook from the aftershocks, stomach on fire as you fell back onto your mattress, legs loosening as you breathed. Between soft breaths and strokes of his hair you attempted to calm down, eyes closed and sinking into your mattress.
Only to realize Rex had not stopped once, continuing to lick at your messy cunt, not wasting a single drop of your arousal.
With a loud groan, and much rougher then you intended you were tugging at his hair, lifting him from between your thighs.
“You have to let me catch my breath, Rex!” You huffed out, moving your hips a bit the moment he pulled his fingers out.
Your eyes narrowed at the smile crossing his soaked face, absolutely hating the way he looked downright sexy with messy hair and your essence all over his skin.
“Then hurry up and catch your breath.. I still got a couple of lessons I need help with.”
Your eyes widened, releasing his hair in slight shock as you basically tossed yourself back onto your mattress.
“Five.. minutes.”

Saw This Coming
Pairing: Captain Rex x Jedi AFAB!Reader
Words: 3790
Warnings: It's angsty but there's fluff in the end. Mention of blood and violence. Reader is a little bit of a Gray Jedi so if that makes you uncomfortable, don't read ahead. Some angsty confessions. One kiss. Happ ending :)
Prompt: “Each time I look at you // I'm limp as a glove // And feeling like someone in love.” (Like Someone In Love, Ella Fitzgerald)
A/N: This is for @sinfulsalutations who is partaking of this Song Fic Exchange. I hope you like this friend. As always, I would like to thank @cloneficgiftexchange for being the only person who is keeping me writing until now. I have no ability to write whatsoever except when you hold these exchanges and even though the stories may not be my best, I am happy that I can still find the energy and interest to write.
He couldn’t see anything, let alone feel what was unfolding around him. There was only chaos, the kind of madness that was reminiscent of his years at the GAR. For a moment, he thinks that the war is over, but as his senses slowly return to him, he pieces together where he was and what he was meant to be doing. His eyes blink tiredly, and as he tries to get out of bed, a hand shoots quickly and pushes him back. He flinches hard, only to realize that it’s not his body that’s shaking but the earth beneath him.
“Stay down Rex,” your voice pulls him away from the battle raging around him, and he turns his head to the side, eyes blown wide open and brows furrowing in anger at the sight that meets him. It takes him far too long to accept that you are crouching beside him, and his expression must be intense because you avoid his gaze and look out the cave you’ve managed to pull him into for shelter.
“How…how are you here?” His voice breaks, in turn making you wince at the hurt laced in his question. Even though you still have your hand resting against his sternum, Rex ignores the faint warmth seeping through his clothes and sits up, barely managing to hold back from screaming in agony at the pain that shoots through his shoulder. You take notice of the deep grimace on his features and turn your full attention to him.
“Could you, for once, listen to me?” You make the mistake of meeting his eyes then, the rest of your lecture dying in your throat when you see tears threatening to roll down his dirt-stained cheeks. He says nothing else, and you hate how miserable he looks, mostly because you know it has nothing to do with the physical pain draining his energy and everything to do with how things turned out between the two of you.
“We need to lay low until Hunter gets here.” A sudden silence fills the space in between the two of you, and you can tell that he is shocked by your casual mention of his brother’s name, maybe even ask how Hunter knows where you are but he chooses against it. Again, you glance at the opening of the cave, watching the stormtroopers run around while two AT-ATs fire into the distance and continue to destroy everything that comes in their line of sight. There’s so much you want to ask Rex, perhaps even yell at him about. But you know this is neither the time nor the place to lecture him about how he shouldn’t have come to an Empire-infested planet, let alone with only a handful of other rebels.
The explosions only increase as minutes go by, and you hate having to wait beside Rex instead of fighting, but you know you can’t leave him by himself, especially since he was hurt and barely able to move. You sneak a look at him every once in a while, wanting to make sure that he was still awake and breathing. When the sounds of destruction grow near, you leave him in the back of the cave and make your way to the front, wanting to check whether there was anyone nearby. There are less stormtroopers walking nearby, and you notice that one of the transports stopped firing altogether. Thinking they must have realized there weren’t more rebels that attacked their camp, you make your way back inside the cave to tell Rex that you’re safe for the time being.
Except as soon as you get there, your heart drops at the sight that meets you. You hand shoots to your lightsaber instantly, but the two stormtroopers point their guns instantly, one at you and the other at Rex.
“Don’t even think about it.”
You don’t move a muscle, afraid they’d get a shot right once and take his life then and there.
“How did you get in?” You ask calmly, knowing not to make any sudden movements for his sake. They don’t answer your question, but you’re counting on one of them saying more than he intends. You glance at Rex and find his chest rising and falling much slower than before, his eyes barely managing to keep your gaze.
“We knew you were coming and knew where you could hide.” Rex perks at the response, and you notice the smirk on his face, letting you know that they may have just revealed something they shouldn’t have.
“I’m going to give you one chance to walk away. It would be wise to listen to me.” There is false confidence and serenity in your voice, but you try to remain as calm as possible, unsure of whether or not your plan will work.
“Don’t be stupid. You’re outnumbered, and he’s injured. This is an easy kill.” One of them responds with a laugh and you instantly know whom you will kill first.
“I’m sorry.” You know that Rex hears the apology because he looks at you the same way he's gazed at you the last time you were in a similar situation. You’re not sure if it’s a look of disappointment or anger, but you know well you’ll never be able to forget it.
“You should-” Before the armed man can finish his sentence, you ignite your lightsaber and send it swirling through the air, managing to cut his hand off before forcing it to go through the other’s torso. Both bodies drop to the ground, except one of them is dead while the other attempts to scream in agony. You don’t give him a chance to let out a single sound, running to him and taking the helmet off instantly to avoid unwanted visitors. Your hand is on his mouth immediately, a warning of what could happen if he decides to make any noise.
You stand up, and retrieve your lightsaber near the dead body, walking back to the stormtrooper laying beside Rex. You crouch down and stare at him, never once breaking eye contact to let him know that you were serious about your suggestion.
“You should have taken the warning.”
“I- I thought Jedi don’t kill unarmed men.” His voice shakes with fear, and you hate the power that courses through your veins with each little, unsure breath he takes.
“Haven’t you heard? All the Jedi are dead.” Not wanting to make this last any longer, you light your saber one last time and watch as life drains from his eyes, the buzzing sound of your weapon ringing through the cave for a moment before you shut it off. You turn around and bite into your lower lip nervously when you see the way Rex is staring at you. He winces when he tries to sit up again and you crouch beside him, not bothering to explain yourself as you check his wound.
“Sit still, this will feel a little strange.” You rip the fabric down his chest, ignoring the harsh grasp he has on your forearm. It’s only when you place both of your palms atop his wound that his hold increases.
“You c-can’t.” His voice is hoarse, making you wish this was all a nightmare.
“Rex, they might be close but they’re not close enough. Let me heal you.”
“If you heal me, you…you won’t be able to protect yourself.” You cringe at the way he breathes the last word, and a part of you wants to shake him awake, tell him that you couldn’t care any less about yourself and only care for him. But you say nothing, shaking your head at the absurdity of his beliefs before shutting your eyes.
Before either of you can say anything, you fall over against Rex, breathing a sigh of relief when his arms wrap around you and keep you in his embrace.
“Mesh’la, please.” The petname nearly makes you sob but you tune him out, wanting to prioritize his safety over your own desires. You don’t respond to him, focusing on the slow beat of his heart in an attempt to match your own with it. It’s not faint, but it concerns you, scares you enough that you don’t follow your late master’s advice on what is necessary to be done when healing another. It happens quickly, much faster than it should, but you feel the Force twist and turn within your body until it moves into him. It’s not as it should be, but you continue regardless, knowing there was no other option, no other way to ensure his safety. Only when you feel his grip soften on your skin do you finally open your eyes and look down at his shoulder. It’s completely healed, but the skin is still inflamed, making you wish you were a little more patient.
“What have you done, sweetheart?” His voice is soothing now, not as angry or hurt as before, and you hate that it’s only because he feels guilty for making you expand your energy for him. You smile at him, marveling at how captivating his hazel gray eyes can be after all those years of knowing him. But the thought slowly dies out as you watch everything turn dark. If there is a confession that shocks you to your core, you don’t really register it, too busy surrendering to the warmth engulfing you.
It seems unfairly short, the heat that allowed you to rest for a moment suddenly getting ripped away from you. It goes as quickly as it comes, and you force your eyes to open in search for it, only to find yourself in an empty room, riddled with nothing but a handful of scraps.
You study the small sleeping area, and only when you turn behind you do you finally realize where you are, whose room you’re in. The helmet looks back at you, a reminder of where this journey began, how long you’ve been carrying this secret. A part of you wishes you could tell him, but you’re not sure where you can even begin, or if he would feel the same way. You’d always had an inclination, but you didn’t want to meet the consequences should your intuition be wrong.
The sound of the door sliding open catches your attention and you already know who it is before you can look at him. You expect him to ask where you’ve been, or even how you knew where he was. You’re even waiting for him to discuss why Hunter knew where you were all along and he didn’t. But he says none of that. In fact, he says nothing at all as he takes a seat on his cot, instantly taking your hand in between his own and rubbing your wrist.
The two of you breathe in unison, as if you’ve both been waiting for this moment for so long. You look down to where he’s touching you, and you wonder if you’ll ever feel anything remotely as intimate as this instance.
The softness with which he touches you, along with his sweet, concerned voice, makes you want to tug him beneath the covers and forget the galaxy around you. But you reel back your emotions, and clear your throat in an attempt to keep yourself under control, afraid he could see right through you.
“How are you feeling?”
“Okay. You?” Rex smiles at your concern, remembering all those times you were bloodied and beaten but still prioritized his safety.
“I’m good…thanks to you.” His thumb circles around the skin of your hand, the sensation feeling like a heated rod rubbing against your joints. A small part of you wishes to remove your palm from his hands, but you don’t want to upset him, or have him misunderstand why you can’t bear his touch all of a sudden. It’s only later that you’d come to realize why you really didn’t want to stop touching him, but for now, you convince yourself it’s to avoid hurting his feelings and not because you can’t find it in yourself to let go of him. It’s difficult to focus on anything else, but as he continues to massage strange figures across the back of your hand, you figure this may be the only time you’ll be able to apologize for what you’ve done all those months ago.
“I’m sorry.” The two words are enough to snap Rex out of whatever haze he’s fallen under. He slowly looks up at you, stopping the circular patterns but continuing to hold your hand in between his. His gaze doesn’t waver for a moment and you know he’s silently asking you to elaborate on the strange outburst.
“Rex, I’m so sorry. For everything.” His impassive expression shifts then, and you swallow the lump in your throat when you see his eyebrows twitch in irritation before resting once more.
“What happened on Corijn wasn’t your fault.” Rex finally breaks his silence, and you shake your head impatiently, annoyed that he knew what you’re referring to but was choosing to take the higher road for your sake.
“That’s not what I mean.” You attempt to take your hand away then, but Rex doesn’t let you move another inch, keeping a tight hold on you and tugging you closer to him. You’re not sure if he’s intentionally trying to drag this out or was simply refusing to blame you for what you’ve done.
“Tell me.” You hate how calm he sounds, how caring and patient he’s being with you when he should be angry with you for knowingly hurting him.
“I’m sorry for…leaving without an explanation. For ignoring your messages.” A sigh of relief leaves your lips, but is quickly interrupted when you understand that there is something much more important you should be apologizing for. You look away for a moment to collect your bearings, and when you think you can handle looking into his sad eyes again, you turn your attention back to him and finally let go of your pride.
“For showing you what I’m capable of.” If you think he’d say anything to confirm your hunch, he disappoints you and remains silent. But as the seconds roll by, you learn that his quietness was not out of judgment but out of meditation. The thought makes you uncomfortable because even though he owed you nothing, he was still trying to choose his words carefully so he doesn’t end up saying something that upsets you.
“I never meant for you to…see what you have seen. To know that I can take life so easily and without hesitation.” Whatever you thought Rex’s reaction would be, you never expected him to let go of you as if you’ve burned him, let alone frown at you in sheer anger. You sit up slowly when you see him take a few steps back and face the opposite wall, and you don’t dare say anything else until you figure out what exactly pissed him off so much.
“Is that what you think I care about?” His voice is calm, but you can practically feel his wrath radiating off of him like deadly waves, as if he was barely managing the facade he was putting up. You’re confused at the abrupt and dramatic response, and only when his response registers in your mind that you finally lose control and snap at him in return.
“Rex, don’t look at me and tell me you don’t care because I know you do. I cared…or used to at least.” He turns around then, and you hate the way he’s looking at you, as if you had stabbed him with a vibroblade and twisted it. He walks back to you and grabs your shoulders, pulling you towards him so you can focus on nothing but his words.
“I only ever cared about you. You- you threw yourself into harm’s way for me, as if your life wasn’t more precious.” Like before, you’re shocked by his response and look at him with a confused expression.
“It’s not.” You answer instantly, and Rex curses beneath his breath at how adamant you are, how wholeheartedly you believe your own thoughts and continue to ignore his own.
“Cyare, please. I- I’ve lost everyone I love. My brothers are broken, and so am I. Do you think I could survive your death too?” You shake your head at him, once again attempting to push him away from you. But Rex slips his hold around your wrists and tugs you even closer, until you’re both breathing the same air. His chest rises and falls rapidly, mirroring your own in fear and anger. For a moment, you see his eyes shift down to your lips and only when you let out a quiet sob does he return his attention to your gaze once more.
“You don’t understand how much I changed.” The confession is whispered with wariness, and you look away from him, too embarrassed to explain to him why you were so much different than the Jedi he once knew.
“So your lightsaber is orange. That means nothing to me.” The mention of your weapon steals the air out of your lungs, and you don’t notice you’re crying until you feel Rex’s calloused fingers wipe away the tears rolling down your cheeks.
“The color means so much more than you realize.” You can barely stand at this point, and Rex must notice the toll this conversation is taking on you because he pushes you back to his cot and sits you down with ease, remaining in your space in an attempt to calm your mind. He parts his lips to relay a confession of his own, but when he sees you avoiding meeting his eyes again, he cups your jaw and pushes it up until he’s in your line of sight.
“I know what it means. I know why it changed, and I don’t care. You’re so much more to me.”
Rex would tell you later that it took you way too long to understand what he was trying to tell you at this moment. You look at him closely, trying to come to terms with the reality of what he just said. Time seems to stand still as you blink confusingly at him, and it’s only when his other hand cups your cheek as well that you truly comprehend the revelation he’s just thrust upon you.
“You don’t mean-” Your voice cracks, and it’s the first time in ages that you feel shy in front of Rex. Not embarrassed, or awkward. Just shy and hopeful.
“Each time I look at you,” he leans forward and shuts his eyes, nudging your nose with his own as he takes in a deep breath to commit this moment to memory, “I’m limp as a glove.” The ease with which he murmurs those words sets you mind at ease, and you allow yourself to disregard everything horrible that transpired before this second.
“I’m desperate for you cyare,” Rex shakes with anticipation as he feels your hands finally reach for him, grabbing onto his forearms to make sure that this was real, and he was telling you what you’ve yearned to hear from him ever since you first laid eyes on him all those years ago.
“And feeling like someone in love.” A shudder courses through your body, sending you into Rex’s embrace and forcing you to break down in his arms. You wrap yourself around him, afraid this is all a dream and that you’d wake up all alone on your ship. Rex lets out a chuckle, one that lets you know he understands the striking reaction to his confession.
“I can’t go through life without you, not anymore.” He whispers into your ear, praying to the Force that you finally allow yourself to believe how much you matter to him, or at the very least, trust his judgment.
“Trust me baby, that’s all I’m asking of you. Trust me to know what I want…what I need to keep doing this.” The reassuring sentiments wash over you like the early morning dew, managing to send you into a state of serenity you have not known in a long time. You want to say so much to him, describe what he makes you feel, or even how often you think of him. But your throat is dry from the intensity of the conversation, so you figure you can put him at ease for the time being, until you are brave enough to tell how much you love him.
“Okay.”
Neither of you say anything else for what feels like hours, relishing the comfortable silence that replaced years of heartache and unspoken feelings. It’s only when you wipe your nose thatRex figures he can joke a little with you.
“And for kriff’s sake, don’t drop off the face of the galaxy again.”You giggle at the sudden outburst but pull back to look into his eyes as you make him a new promise.
“I won’t.”
The two of you smile at each other, but you notice the hazel in his eyes quickly become overshadowed with much darker pupils. The easy expressions turn heated, and before you know it, you’re pushing forward and molding your lips with his. It’s a chaste kiss, one that took wars to finally come into existence, and you decide then and there that you’d like to begin and end each day with the touch of his lips. Rex parts his bruised lips to deepen the kiss, smiling to himself when you let out a little gasp and give him a chance to grow even closer to you.
Your hands twist in his clothes, muscles relaxing as you feel his hands comb into your hair and tug a little. He pulls your head away to give you a chance to breathe, and when your eyes flutter open, he lets out a sigh of relief at seeing them just as dazed as he his heart feels.
“Kriff…I’ve wanted to do that for years.” Rex mutters against your lips, giving you a quick peck on the lips before pulling you back into his arms. You’re about to tell him that you probably wanted to kiss him long before him when you sense a pair of eyes staring at you.
“Well, the whole of the Rebellion saw this coming.” Gregor laughs when the two of you jump at his laugh, and you can’t help but giggle at Rex when you turn to him and watch as his cheeks turn different shades of red.
“Took you long enough.” Hunter shakes his head before saluting the two of you and walking away, wondering how long it’s been since he’s seen either of you smiling so peacefully.

➤ SINNERS | F1 TEXTS
pairings: charles leclerc, lando norris, lewis hamilton, oscar piastri, carlos sainz, and max verstappen
summary: you've got a new film coming out, and while the f1 grid is more than happy to support you, they're in for a surprise when they watch a certain scene (inspired by that one scene in sinners, you know what I'm talking about)
warnings: suggestive!! pretty heavy allusions to smut, but nothing explicit
➤ MASTERLIST
a/n: i have written wayyyy too much angst lately so i wanted something hot 🫶 enjoy
