Headcanons of being the daughter of Gina and Ej
Tumblr media
*You have an incredibly cheeky and clueless personality (That's why everyone loves you) *You were born to be the center of attention, you're a born star, but you don't get all fuss over it (your parents wouldn't allow it anyway) *You sing, dance and direct like your mother and have a talent for sports like your father *Your "uncles" have also influenced your skills, you write songs and play the piano like nini and ashley, you sing and design like kourtney, and you have the charisma of ricky and big red (only in your case you can also show it on stage) Unfortunately, you don't know how to choreograph like your uncle Carlos, nor have you been able to interpret the male version of something like your uncle Seb (you're not even a farmer). *You are a theater girl but you have "balance" you can be the protagonist, but also a secondary character with a really interesting background, an extra that appears only once on stage but devours with a solo, and sometimes you can even be found behind the scenes in charge of the organization *You love all your uncles, but Ricky is definitely your least favorite uncle, you can't forgive him for making your mom suffer for a while, or for almost spoiling your parents' "perfect summer". You have the perception that every time he visits them it's to spend time with your mom since she's been without a girl for too many years, and she's the most stable thing he's ever had after high school.(This is an alternate universe where Ricky is an on-and-off bachelor, that's how tim federle is done!)
"Go say hi to your Uncle Ricky"
"I won't talk to him all night mom"
"Let's see, what did he do this time?"
"he tried to flirt with you"
"He and I haven't flirted since I realized he loved your dad at the end of Camp Shallow Lake" (if this is an AU where Rina never kissed)
"I know what I saw mom, you should have seen him dad, with the hateful smile of him and the stupid charisma of him that I fucking should have inherited"
"Hey, mouth young lady," your mom scolded, you showed her your eye rolls.
"What makes you think you didn't inherit my charisma?" Your father asked, offended
"Don't worry, dad" you hugged him "I also inherited yours, only his influences me to death"
"I don't care if you like him or want him off planet earth, you're going to talk to Ricky whether you want him or not"
"I don't think it's a good idea to force the girl love, we teach her not to be hypocritical" Gina's look turned violent and she asked with the most affectionate voice anyone could imagine
"oh so get me started" practically you and dad scared the shit out of you, you started walking quickly while saying
"I'm always happy to see my brother Wildcat"
"uncle ricky is the best in the world"
*You are the number 1 fan of your parents' relationship (They are the basic reason why you don't want to have a relationship, they are the most perfect couple in the world, everyone else is a vile imitation, except your uncles' romance) *You and your parents are really close, they spend a lot of time together doing anything. *You anxiously wait for the weekend to arrive, to go on a trip with your parents, sometimes you go alone, other times your uncles and cousins accompany you. *You spend most of your time with your mother, cooking, knitting, shopping, and at work, it's her second favorite place in the world (your mom owns and teaches a dance academy, your dad owns several teams sports and has been director and organizer of several musicals) *You will be a theater teacher when you grow up

first things first, if ricky decides to be a homewrecker i will giggle and will not care if it’s “immoral”. now with my honest truth out of way, let’s all have some common sense.
ricky will not play the homewrecker because he has no reason to involve himself in the relationship as he believed he had with nini and ej. despite both seasons starting with ej having the girl and ricky being in love with said girl, the love triangle between season 1 and this season are vastly different. both ej and ricky have grown from who they were in season 1 and will definitely react differently as to how they acted at the beginning of the show.
most importantly, the circumstances involving the love triangle is widely different too. despite ricky having history with both nini and gina before their respective relationships with ej, ricky had actually dated nini. he didn’t believe their relationship had come to an end and that they were on a “break”. he was also desperate for stability that he was doing whatever it took to keep it. nini being in his life was one of those factors. he was a homewrecker because he believed what he and nini had was far from over, whether it was genuinely out of love or a desperate way to run from change.
this season’s ricky has grown so much from season 1 and if you can’t see that then you’re in absolute denial. and this season’s ricky will not insert himself in a relationship he believes he has no business in being in. even if he believes there’s always been something more between him and gina, he has actually never dated her. and from the second half of season 2 it’s obvious that his priority is to build his friendships and wanting his friends to be happy so he wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise that for ej but specially gina.
and as far as we know it seems like ricky never understood gina’s confession so from his perspective he simply has a crush on a close friend that is already in a happy relationship, not a girl he feels like was “stolen” from him by ej.
some of you are purposely obtuse when it comes to ricky’s character. but that’s okay, because gina porter gets him and that’s all he truly needs.
anyways, even if he decides to be a homewrecker i will always stick beside him.

i know people don’t actually care (even though i already knew because the way people talk about him needing therapy is disrespectful half the time) about ricky going to therapy when they literally mention it at every turn. ricky and gina were simply hanging out this episode having fun and being friends (that anti rinas claim to want) and you could even argue that there wasn’t anything romantic about any of their scenes and here ppl go still telling ricky to stay away and saying he needs therapy and to work on himself.

pushing my bisexual ricky agenda by saying him and jet are going to have a Thing this summer 🙏 ricky gets a crush on ej but gets over it cause gina and him are besties plus hes in a new era!! jet has a crush on him, ricky starts to fall for jet, summer ends and they both tell each other but jet leaves before anything actually happens. but also during the show they've got flirty vibes yk?

HSMTMTS REWATCH - TAKE TWO 1x3 The Wonderstudies
Episode 2
Ricky vs Bowen Count: Ricky [1] Bowen []
This Episode: Ricky - 2 (with Ashlyn and talking head section)
Going through all the different scenarios that could happen in getcha head in the game... guess they should've added more
I'm guessing he went through her texts first and realized she wasn't actually messaging Ricky
"If this voicemail is too much, or too soon, or you're not into it, we could just ignore this whole thing and pretend like nothing ever happened." This voicemail was the last thing he was actually going to try. Not to try winning her back, but to see if she still had feelings for him. Whatever response he got would determine if they did share a moment and there's hope or if she truly didn't think it was a moment and he can start moving on. This is also the first time he managed to properly get a chance to say what he wanted to say without getting interrupted. So I'm feeling good about the voicemail afterwards makes sense as well. He says he crushed it because he managed to say what he wanted in one go and have it all be clear.
EJ didn't listen to the whole voicemail to know that this was Ricky's hailmary. In fact before Ricky calls he mentions he plays to win. He's seeing this huge fued with Ricky that's not as big as he thinks it is as something to win weather it be Nini or his roles back. I still feel like he does like Nini, but again it's more of likes her as a person. He's dated a few girls before and this is probably the first time another guy that was around actually stood a chance or something.
I forgot to mention this in the last episode, but Ej claimed that Nini was real (as in not fake) Gina then claimed Ricky keeps everybody real. Can I just say that's not that far fetched ever since Ricky joined a few people have been on their toes. EJ is proving he isn't this perfect guy he acts like he is and wants to be. He's one for traditional, picture-perfect, everything going to plan type of guy, and with things not being that he's resorting to impulsive plans.
EJ chickened out and ended up just putting the phone to the lost and phone cause he can't bring himself to face the truth.
Going to back to EJ calling Nini real and Gina saying Ricky keeps everybody real. EJ has mentioned Nini makes him better, but clearly that's not the case and the phone situation proves that. Her stealing Gina's shoes can prove two things, EJ's influence on her or Nini showing a new side of herself.
quick cut to the Ricky and Big Red scene. Ricky asks if he should move on and BIg Red says he personally wouldn't but Ricky has his pride. In the end Big Red brings up how he is the leading man and has to start acting like it and be the bigger man and he agrees. This is Ricky agreeing and telling himself to stop going after Nini. It's also him telling himself to stick through with the play because would be wrong to up and leave the production.
So during is homewrecker era he failed his initial audition then decided to wingit, wore a lot of cologne, decided to put effort into the show, left a voicemail saying that if she doesn't want anything to do with him they can pretend nothing happened. Such a mastermind. Also another foreshadowing to getcha head in the game
Back to out kleptos: In this moment hearing another person say "They play to win" like he did gave him a bit of a wake up call and he quickly tries to get Nini to do the right thing. He had on her on such a high pedestal seeing her do this is making him realize she's not 'real' person he believed and it also makes him look back on himself as well. He's not who he wants to be (remind you of anyone else who dated Nini) and believes he's the reason for her decision. She brings up how he was raised cause they must have raised him right and his reaction says it all. His dad raised him to be a winner, be perfect no matter what he has to do which is now passed on to her.
This is proved wrong though when Nini just steals something else completely of her own will.
The Chad and Troy scene is so awkward lol. This is the first scene where EJ and Ricky even interact so it makes sense that the tension would still very much be there despite both of them trying to just get through the rehearsal. EJ was the first one to throw a shot (and no pun not intended but I can pretend like it was) Not only was he the first one to make a dig towards Ricky he was the first to properly throw the ball at him. Eventually it turns into literal childish of them adding numbers onto them saying Back At You. It's literally just two people being mad and just wanting to stay mad and take it out on each other in the end. EJ wants his normal 'everything perfect' life back while Ricky is also wanting everything kindof back to normal we just don't fully know how true this is until the next episode.
I remember seeing someone talking about how they hold a mirror to each other in a way. I can't remember everything they said, but i don't think its that far of a reach. EJ see's him as a threat, that everything he got easily, is handed to Ricky now. He see's him as the guy to ruined a perfect streak, perfect plan, 'perfect' relationship since he doesn't actually know everything on the voicemail, at this point i do think he now knows how recent their relationship was before he got together with Nini which probably makes him feel worse. Ricky on the other hand doesn't blame EJ ruining his perfect life because he knows his life isn't perfect, but he does think EJ's is. He has the girl, the popularity, the money, and he's natural when it comes to theater which he is still learning. He's upset he's with Nini, and he's getting more upset because trying to big the bigger person but EJ started getting personal so of course Ricky did as well.
Hearing EJ say you deserve everything coming your way probably stings Ricky more then EJ because at this point he know his family is barely a family and it feels like he's losing people. In the end they're just taking anger out to anger out and it's not even about saying mean things about each other. Then Ricky throws the ball to hard.
Mr. Mazzarra got better by the end of season 2
"Why don't you be real?" Honestly at this point the only really acting real is Ricky and Big Red at this point everyone has, lied, stolen and hid something from another person. Ricky has been honest from the beginning with how he's felt.
EJ telling Ricky to stop acting to be Nini's boyfriend not realizing Ricky was just about to do that. He also says don't act like my best friend but honestly Ricky and EJ have only interacted this episode and no point did Ricky trying acting like a best friend. Unless he thinks Ricky just trying to be nice and check on him is him trying act like a best friend. Makes you think if EJ ever had someone actually be his best friend (minus Ashlyn his cousin or someone genuinely check if he's okay.) I remember I think the same post about them mirroring each other saying maybe EJ might've been also saying this to himself, especially when says "Stop trying so hard it's pathetic". Up to this point EJ tries to come across as this perfect person This is before he actually loosens up to the theater kids and actually starts hanging out with them instead of just seeing them as costars/coworkers. He had that interaction with Nini that made him realize his actions were bad and she brought his parents into the conversation, and we all know how is dad is. Traditional, Picture perfect, stick to the plan. This could be easily seen as directed to himself, weather he's simply saying it himself or seeing that part of himself in Ricky as well, it's there.
Right from the get-go in the pilot, it's pretty clear Ricky is a private person, the song being online added on his freak out a bit, being in front of everyone stopped from finishing the song, and going onto season 2 and season 3 he has these moments as well. So finding out EJ knew about the voicemail must've hit a certain spot for him he thought at least with all the years of friendship with Nini would mean she would understand that he's not good showing his feelings and keep it as just a thing between them

HSM:TM:TS 1x01 Review
The Auditions was a great series premiere for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and I’m very excited for all that’s to come. Let’s dig in!
Disney certainly got its money worth with this show. The gorgeous Utah scenery and actual on location filming really helps ground the series with a sense of realism. To that end, I really liked the little details, like the principal not wanting to spend anything on the musical, the kids social media use, and that the kids actually look like regular kids who live in regular houses and go to a regular high school
Such a talented cast! Olivia Rodrigo is a showstopper, what a wonderful rendition of Start of Something New that was and Joshua Bassett seems born to play Ricky. Sofia is an amazing dancer and I’m excited to see some of the productions they put on later in the season
Miss Jenn reminds me of April Rhodes from Glee and I mean that as a compliment. Her delivery of, ‘’that is so fresh’’ still makes me laugh. I love that she cast Ricky as Troy on a whim for maximum drama and  of course she wants a Ms. Darbus song, she’s an agent of chaos and I’m here for it. I also liked her begging her mom for car loan payment money, you’re not really a millennial if you haven’t lived pay cheque to cheque at some point
Even though we’ve seen them in the trailer, Carlos’ first 15 minutes of both sequels and Broadway lines still made me chuckle
I like the glimpses we get of the kids home lives. Very refreshing to see Nini’s two moms and see that she has a mixed race family and with Andi Mack off of Disney Channel, tonight’s showing of HSMTMTS might be the last time any kind of lgbtq rep is seen on Disney Channel itself for quite a while. Her grandma looks too young to be in a nursing home but it was nice to see her helping Nini with her self-confidence. Poor Ricky with his parents marriage collapsing, that’s gonna be a tearjerker if and when his mom returns from Chicago to officially end things with his dad. Seems like Gina’s mom has high expectations of her which eventually lead to their scene we saw in the promo where Gina breaks down
We dove right into the love triangle at the heart of this season: Nicky vs NJ. As I was watching the first flashback scene between Nini and Ricky, I thought to myself that if they keep writing them scenes like this I just might become Nicky trash, I was trying to stay neutral but after Ricky’s audition I’m definitely team Ricky, that really was the #ultimatecomeback. Ricky singing ‘’I Think I Kind of You Know’’, the song Nini wrote for him was just too sweet; it warmed even my cold, black heart. And that shot of Ricky and EJ lighting Nini with their phones and forming a triangle? Poetic cinema
It really does seem like Nicky is the endgame ship with NJ just an obstacle in its path especially with Nini having been in love with Ricky just six weeks ago and only having met EJ four weeks ago. EJ is very supportive of Nini and I did like how sweet he is with her, that line about her being a cute chorus cow was great. I saw on Disney +’s twitter poll that the fandom is split about 66% team Ricky to 33% team EJ which is an interesting split but also reflects the writing tipping it’s hand, it does want us to like NJ but not at the expense of Nicky
One thing that I don’t like so far is the age gap between Olivia and Matt, she’s 16 and he’s 21 and they both look their age. I’m not saying that all teen roles need to be played by teens but that age gap is significant when they’re playing girlfriend and boyfriend and was an unforced error on the shows part. It reminds me of the problems GMW suffered by casting a much older Peyton Meyer to play Riley’s love interest. Matt Cornett’s age as well as EJ being the only senior of the main cast is another hint that he won’t be playing Nini’s love interest past this season
I do hope that however this love triangle ends that it’s done as cleanly as possible. Love triangles are rarely pulled off well because the show or movie or book will usually tip its hand fairly quickly as to which is the ‘real’ ship but they also usually end up damaging the characters involved. In this case Ricky is not just a rival for Nini’s affections but a would be homewrecker who’s set out to breakup Nini and EJ which if not handled carefully could make Ricky look like a bad guy
As an aside, Nini having a shirtless photo of EJ on her phone and her and Ricky hanging out alone in her bedroom in the flashback is spicy for Disney but does at least gesture more to the reality of teen life than the typical squeaky clean Disney fare
Carlos is the colour guard captain, that was in the original casting notice (back when Carlos was named Vikram) and Tim Federle mentioned in an interview that he based Carlos off of one of his best friends who was also a colour guard captain. I’ve been wondering for a couple of weeks now if Frankie Rodriguez was actually allowed to reveal that Carlos is gay because it hasn’t been talked about in interviews or mentioned in any reviews so far. His line about EJ not knowing who he is, seems like it could potentially be set up for an arc about Carlos trying to make himself known. He knew that Seb wanted to try out for Sharpay rather than Ryan so presumably he already knows him? We know that something is being teased between him and Seb but I won’t hold my breathe for getting very much from Disney, at least this season
Not much to say about the other characters so far. Kourtney is barely a step above the sassy black friend trope but I think some of it has to due with the fact that Tim Federle originally just wanted Kourtney to be a one off supportive friend for Nini but so liked the actress that he decided to make her a main. Ashlyn is supposed to have a powerful duet with Nini in the second ep so that is something to look forward to as is her relationship with her cousin EJ. Big Red is a nice supportive friend and that’s about it. Not much to Mr. Mazara either. It does seem like the dividing line between major and lesser main characters are those who have lead roles in the musical itself
I love that the mockumentary interviews happen even when they make absolutely no sense in universe
We get some full character names from the cast list: Seb Matthew- Smith, Ricky Bowen, EJ Caswell, Gina Porter, and Nini Salazar-Roberts
Looking Ahead:
I read in reviews that EJ teams up with Gina to take down Ricky while Gina tries to take down Nini. That’s a pretty easy path to villainize EJ and sink NJ eventually while then using EJ’s panic attacks and Gina’s story line with her mom to build them back up. I sincerely hope that they don’t even try to go for one sided Gina and EJ as Sofia is the youngest cast member
Sofia did say that Gina would make things complicated for the love triangle and in a promo clip she said she was ‘intrigued’ by Ricky so we’ll see what happens
Miss Jenn supposedly left New York in unclear circumstances so I wonder where they’ll go with that. My own theory is that she used to be an extra on Law and Order: SVU and was having a torrid affair with Dan Florek before being exposed
I’ll try to have these reviews up Friday evenings but that’s dependent on when I can watch the eps. Because the pilot aired on tv we’ll actually get ratings either Monday or Tuesday which will be the only time we’ll get publicly released data otherwise all we’ll get is what Disney wants us to know and that will often just be spin. I’m very excited for this season and for season two and I can’t wait to see what’s ahead. Until next week wildcats
