An ancestor of mine five generations ago was a detective who didn't know about heliocentrism or solar systems. I developed an interest in reaction to that.
—Ron Kamonohashi
Are you connecting the dots?
From Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “A Study in Scarlet”:
My surprise reached a climax, however, when I found incidentally that he was ignorant of the Copernican Theory and of the composition of the Solar System. That any civilized human being in this nineteenth century should not be aware that the earth travelled round the sun appeared to be to me such an extraordinary fact that I could hardly realize it.
…
‘But the Solar System!’ I protested.
‘What the deuce is it to me?’ he interrupted impatiently; ‘you say that we go round the sun. If we went round the moon it would not make a pennyworth of difference to me or to my work.’
From Sherlock BBC:
Sherlock BBC, The Great Game (final shooting script)
We are on the verge of uncovering Ron’s past including his ancestors.
Interesting that Akira Amano wants to change that.
(Tagging you again Andy and D @clouds-of-peach and @anitazara. Sorry I find this really hilarious)
Valentine’s issue of Animedia. Ron eats chocolate bar soaked in brown sugar. Toto finds it too much. ( x )
One of the blurbs reads: “The M Family interferes with Ron's life as a detective because he is a descendant of both Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty. Milo, the first child of the M Family, says that Ron is at a stage where he is unable to decide whether he deserves a brother. However, because Toto (Totomaru Isshiki) is there, Ron should not be dragged into the darkness!. How will RonToto, who deepened their bonds after many incidents, face the M family!?”
Manga versus the Anime: Chapter 1, Episode 1, The Case of the Metropolitan Serial Drownings
Toto looks like he has semblance of control over his emotions. The background music is very mysterious, the whole teaser for that matter, just like what Ron Kamonohashi’s VA Youhei Azakami just said.
One thing that makes me glad about the anime is that, even though as a manga reader I know what’s going to happen, they still manage to make me excited looking forward to the procedure how will they handle it. It feels like experiencing it in another level. You have the voices assigned to these characters and so far I am truly satisfied. Moreover, the colours are so vivid and alive as Ron’s eyes sparkle and shine. From the point of deduction to subjecting /intimidating the suspects to commit suicide.
The opening song introduced the duo as they tackle the cases head on in the coming episodes. The people we see around them are going to be part of their cases. Like the sisters who are the focal point on episode 2. Kawasemi and his assistant walking are blurry. They too soon will appear in the coming episodes.
But you have to watch the ED because it adds to the context of Ron and Toto’s relationship.
We might see Dr. Mofu giving her hand to Ron but these screenshots suggest otherwise. The female hand is replaced with Toto’s hand. Toto holding Ron’s hand lifting him up, assisting him, slowly encouraging him to come out and abandon his depression.
The last scenes we see the duo together entering Ron’s flat after doing mundane things like shopping. The two have found each other. Finally. Learning to live and cherish it because they are together.
I can’t believe I took so long to watch episode 6 when it contains one of my most favorite RonToto moments ever
Also, can we just appreciate this slight line change in the anime:
I don’t know if it’s just the translation, but the shift from “the person I’m solving a case with” to simply “you,” addressing Toto directly, feels so much more personal and really highlights how important Toto is to Ron
And god, the voice acting for Ron is sooo good. You can really hear his voice trembling. The man was so damned terrified
