feel something.
♡ ╎ @rkjisoo ;
rose’s feet feel heavy as she trudges up the hallway of her apartment complex, fumbling for her keycard that’s somewhere in her bag. her apartment feels like it’s a million miles away, even if it’s only a few floors up. it’s just been one of those days. one of those incredibly long, tiresome and beyond frustrating days. for the most part, when she was in a good headspace, rose enjoyed her training. it was bearable, sometimes even pleasant. she would go to seocho or royal, endure her lessons, practice her evaluations and over lunch she would converse with her friends and her fellow trainees. it was easy done, a routine almost. but today . . . everything just went wrong.
she miraculously makes it into the elevator, white knuckles on the railings as she braces herself for the few second ride up to their floor. rose dips out and shuffles down the hall, eager to discard her bags and fall face first into her bed or whatever soft surface she can find herself. without any hesitation, she unlocks the door of jisoo, lisa and her’s apartment and inside she goes, kicking off her sneakers before stumbling down the hall. she manages to kick the door to her bedroom open with her heel on the way, tossing her bag into the room as she b-lines for the living room.
and onto the couch she flops, face first. rose flails her limbs for a moment, but she’s relieved to be home. she feels like she’s been lying there for a good while. with much effort, rose manages to roll onto her side only to be greeted by her beloved housemate. “evening, jisoo.” she chimes, giving jisoo a little wave.

leaving behind these walls felt weird. it had not even been a year since she had first come here and now she was leaving. like a flicker in everyone's life she had come, brought values, taken some, made friends and now moved on to bigger things they all were hoping to achieve. she felt bad in a way. everyone had been waiting for their chance for so long and here yuzu was, coming in, sweeping everything and yeeting out to grab the dream everyone had been aiming for.
everyone but her.
with a sigh she rounded the corner, almost running into someone. "oh sorry- ah... jisoo eonni." voice hesitative she hadn't actually really spoken to anyone since moving to join the project. while she knew none of them would hold it against her, there was still a feeling of dread to actually bring the matter up. perhaps now was the time she'd actually have to say something.

tell me why.
a closed rkmay20eval starter for @rkjisoo
gahyeon hardly expects a competition aspect to this month’s eval, and even less so that they would be doing a vocals only performance. she almost feels like she’s been cheated. maybe it’s just because she favors dance so much more over any other aspect of performing – but she shouldn’t be so upset. the last few evaluations had focused primarily on dance, so really it was only in due time that they’d have a vocals-focused evaluation. but the fact that she’d be standing on a stage competing against another company was stressful to think about. after all, gahyeon hasn’t properly competed in two years.
but, while she hadn’t competed in two years, she had been training alongside the royal girls for two years, and gahyeon believes that she and the other girls were strong performers. together, they worked together as a unit and knew one another’s strengths and weaknesses. so, they could band together and deliver a strong performance, even if it was just a vocal performance.
gahyeon mills her way into the practice room for the day, clapping her hands together and smiling brightly at the only other soul in the room. the royal girl’s vocal line was filled with strong vocalists, and gahyeon would certainly consider jisoo one of the stronger ones ( and herself definitely not ) – and with their song choice, gahyeon’s sure they have to put most of their faith in the hands of their vocalists. “ it’s time to work hard, jisoo. ” gahyeon states, voice strong as she claps her hands together again. “ we’re fighting for our right for a vacation. a vacation ! ” she lets out a long sigh and smiles wistfully. “ i can hardly believe we’re getting the opportunity. since we do, we should fight for it. ” she says, nodding. “ i don’t think i know many of the trc girls, but there’s strength in numbers. ” she says with a nod. “ how’re you feeling so far ? ” she asks, plopping down in front of the mirror and looking up at jisoo.
“ i haven’t sung in front of the ceos since the mgas, and i really didn’t think i’d be doing that ever again until debut. ” she chuckles, shaking her head. “ i know most of my part’s rap, it’s not like the vocals are hard for what i’m doing – nothing like you ... ” she trails off, the shrugs. “ i just hope i don’t drag down the team, you know ? since we’re trying to get a vacation for everyone. i think we deserve it, we’ve all worked so hard. ” she sighs. “ we can do this, right ? ”

there’s an overabundance of caution that hangs over them, a leftover vigilance from those articles that had come out months ago, compounded with the bitterness that’s still left over from what happened with his friend. he feels bad about it, of course he does, because she deserves better than the nervousness that’s coursing through him at the moment. it’s the reason he’d been more than willing to spend a quiet evening at the apartment on valentine’s day rather than his usual extravagant events. but he supposes no one can really call them out for anything, he thinks; there are loads of people at the event, and there’s nothing wrong with a boy and a girl going to check out the pop up flea market, plus neither of them are exactly public figures yet, despite jisoo being in her drama and chanyeol being one of the new emcees for the spop channel.
still, despite his apprehensions, it’s refreshing to be out in the open, even if this isn’t exactly his scene. he’s always taken a rather lax approach with fashion, preferring comfort over style every time, but he did try at least a little for jisoo---at least, it’s an upgrade from a hoodie and slides (he still feels apologetic toward heejin about that).
he doesn’t really have any intention on buying anything, happy to just spend time with jisoo away from walled buildings and out in the open air, but he does keep an eye on her, watching what she picks up, trying to decipher her expressions, seeing if she takes a particular interest in anything before setting it down. before long, the smell of coffee and caffeine entices him, and although he doesn’t really drink coffee, the thought of fresh pastries has his stomach grumbling. “hey,” he says, nudging her gently with his shoulder as he nods toward a nearby cafe. “want to take a break from the crowd?”

one more lonely girl.
this month had been taxing on shiah, to say the least, and in times like these there weren’t many people she turned to to actually open up about this stuff. heck, barely any of the girls had known shiah had been seeing someone. one of the few who actually knew about it was jisoo, and so with the remnants of the emotional turmoil she had been through, along with the pressure of the evaluation they had just faced, shiah felt the only person she could really turn to and rely on a little was her.
“hey.. you busy right now?” she had managed to catch the girl at the end of training hours, though her usual cheery demeanor was fairly diminished. “i... sort of need someone to talk to. if you’re busy that’s fine! i just... yeah, i need someone right now, and you’re one of the people i thought of.” she hoped jisoo would be open to listening, but if she wasn’t that was fine. everyone had their own things to worry about, so shiah would understand.

little fall of rain.
♦ july eval starter for @rkjisoo !
when it was time to leave for the trip, mingyu was possibly even sadder than he thought he’d be.  for a little while, things seemed to be better. he wasn’t as deeply affected by everything, but perhaps that was because he tried to ignore it. now, everything is reminding him that this is his reality and he feels... lost. it’s hard being away from won, especially with the hurt that he already felt from being crushed with the news that he didn’t make it. he wasn’t jealous of his boyfriend in a way that he wished he could take his place, but he did desperately wish that it was something he was doing with him. luckily, he wasn’t totally alone in this. if there was one good that was coming out of it, it was that he was getting to spend a bit of time with jisoo.
the beach was really beautiful and he would be a lot more excited about this if it hadn’t been for the other complications this month, but he was going to try to at least pretend to be happier. maybe if he just didn’t bring anything up, he would be able to forget the circumstances once again. once they were closer to the water, though not quite close enough for the tide to meet them, he placed the blanket and sat down, looking up at the girl with a bright smile. “i feel like it’s been an entire lifetime since i last had a vacation of any sort.” he pauses, waiting for jisoo to sit with him. “i wish won could be here.” and with that single sentence, he immediately failed at his attempt to not bring it up or face the subject... damn.

EVERYTHING.
♡ ┋ @rkjisoo!
a week or so had passed by since rose and lisa had rolled back into seoul after their vacation in australia. rose being rose was reluctant to leave, she always was; never entirely sure of when she would see her beloved melbourne again. there had been times in the distant past where she was tempted to leave everything she had here behind and take off back home, but how could she? she was surrounded by her friends and fellow trainees, she had royal, she was in love. as much as melbourne was home, rose can’t deny that seoul is home too. it was discussed between rose and lisa as to how much better the trip would of been with jisoo. in an ideal world, and in an ideal world, the travel party would of been made up of four of them. so they had to make up for their absence with photos, gifts and tons of stories to share when they got home.
“ugh, this weather.” rose says, slipping through the door after jisoo. the two were headed out for lunch, outside of seocho. there was a ton of nice, healthy menu-ed places to eat at within the area. sometimes the menu at seocho and royal got a bit boring, rose often found herself craving something different. “it’s so nice. i can’t wait for the cherry blossoms to bloom.” she loves spring, it’s probably her favourite time of year. she’s looking forward to the festivals that come with the pink flowers and she hopes she and younghyun can scope out the different locations in seoul.
“how’s this months evaluation treating you?” she asks, turning to the older female as they walk alongside eachother. it was a given that rose and this evaluation were getting on very well, it was more or less a dream come true. “any luck with the guitar?” rose knew that jisoo had picked up the guitar for this month. she would of offered her a place in her group if not for jinsoul playing guitar. that and they were in need of someone who knew their way around an electric guitar.

unwound.
rkbubble with @rkjisoo !!
he thinks he’s seen her a few times around the royal building, a cool senior he doesn’t really know how to approach. there’s no clear, universal instructions on how to introduce yourself to people who are so far out of your social league that they’re in an entirely new league themselves. ( he fondly remembers the fact that he had even needed to be guided to meet mingyu, the older’s mother introducing them for the mutual benefit of being each others’ first best friends— first ‘everything’s, really, over the years. ) he taps the base of his bubble wand against his palm, convinces himself it’s not that big of deal, especially given that they’re just out in the wild right now. to the world, they’re just two people enjoying the festival. it’s no big deal, right?
“hi,” his voice is small, timid, at first. “you’re jisoo, right? I’ve seen you... around.” it’s a little ominous, but he’s been given a full rundown since he started at royal to be wary of who within the company are public ( like himself ) and private trainees. he doesn’t want to take any chances. “I’m not very good at introducing myself, but I’m won! I, uh— I’m a dancer.” he hopes that that’s a big enough clue as to who he is, if the girl hasn’t seen him around or watched the mgas. “I was just going to get a drink, can I get you anything? my treat.”

▫︎ ▪︎  ━   white knight .
he should walk away.  he should walk away right now.  if he was smart, he would have walked away about five minutes ago, but hyojong has never really been the one with brains in the family.  maybe that’s why everyone always tells him that he’s so absentminded all the time.
this is a situation that he shouldn’t even insert himself into, considering who it involves and just how much time he’s spent in the past few months trying to run away from any situation that even slightly involves her.  as much as hyojong wants to, though, this is a little different.  because jisoo here at the festival isn’t crowding his space, she’s just coexisting.  and by the looks of things, she’s coexisting poorly if the expression on her face says anything to him at all.
hyojong thinks he knows her well enough to tell when she’s not pleased by something, because jisoo isn’t someone to bite her tongue and will it all away.  so if he can guess right, this is just another situation of some stupid idiot not taking no for an answer and she’s not in the mood to deal with it.  more than likely, she’ll probably snap and it’ll cause an even bigger ruckus than the attention she’s already drawn.
his attention, that is.
this isn’t his problem.  it shouldn’t be his problem.
but the thing is, if he turns away from this now, he’s going to be the one who feels bad about it.  there’s a difference between the right thing and the moral thing, sometimes, and hyojong sighs as he pushes himself up and begins to head over, casually putting himself between jisoo and the person giving her some trouble.  even though he doesn’t want to look her in the eye, he does - for the sake of the moment, at least.  “ hey.. i’ve been looking around for you, sorry i got a little lost.  ready to watch the concert?”
all that he can hope is that jisoo just plays along so he can get this over with and go back to ignoring her as before.

.encounters in sunlight
@rkjisoo
tired. so tired. a yawn escaped kang joon's lips, when he walked down the hall. somewhere around here was a practice room with big windows to let some daylight in. with sleepy eyes, he looked right and left to make sure nobody was there to bother, when he entered the room. then he walked over to the windows, dropped down his bag, took off his jacket and laid down, using his bag as pillow. the sunshine was prickling warmly on his skin and with a relieved sigh, he put the jacket over his face. even when he wasn't sleeping on a bed right now, he felt pretty comfortable, which probably came from the fact he at times slept on the floor at home as well. sometimes he just fainted from tiredness, as soon as he returned home, dropping next to gomu's basket, sometimes it was just laziness and sometimes just his occassional suffering of a low.
he felt his muscle tension weakened and slowly his body relaxed, as his breathing calmed down as well. another yawn broke through, before kang joon drifted away. startled, kang joon lifted his head, the jacket slipping off his face, as he blinked around the room while feeling for his smart phone, just to set a alarm. he was on break right now, so he supposed taking a short power nap would do him good. nonetheless oversleeping was a no go. as soon as he had activated the alarm, he fell fast asleep, warmed up by the sun.

2020 ♡ MAY EVALUATION       preparations ∘ royal entertainment
preparing for evaluations had felt tedious and tiresome for some while and rose dreaded learning these complex, confusing choreographies she would dance once and then never dance to again. singing songs that didn’t feel right on her tongue. may had come, as had a breath of fresh air. it’s relief that rose feels when she finds out what this month’s evaluation is all about. the royal girls are somewhat out of their element, with the majority being charismatic and cool performers. rose too could be a charismatic and cool performer, but her element had and always was this: just rose and her guitar. it’s where her beginnings were, humble as they may be.
it didn’t take the girls long to decide on what it was they were performing. they chose their angle rather quickly. blessed with a phenomenal discography of all different sorts of artists, royal girls settle on a song from one of royal’s most beloved girl groups. one of their newer songs, but in their eyes, nonetheless a classic. the sound of the song already fits the image the girls want to portray; stripped back, effortless. all that was left was for them to make it their own.
comfort is what rose feels when she sits in on their first practice, guitar in hand, occupying a spot across her lap. her fingertips feel softer, less calloused. a distribution is devised, a fairly fair one if rose is being honest. more or less everyone is given an opportunity to shine, and although it’s mostly the vocalists of the group; herself, jisoo and jiwoo ( and yuzu too ), lisa and gahyeon are given their chance in the spotlight too. rose isn’t entirely sure if their performance is star studded or good enough to have them take out the grand prize, but it’s pivotal for the girls proving they are more than a band of merry (wo)men who dance and sing a little.
rose feels energized, a little more content at the thought of sticking it out with royal for the long run. she knows she can sigh a breath of relief, knowing that this performance going to be entirely her. authenticity was what she did best and for sometime, her performances lacked it. but not this one.

▫︎ ▪︎  ━ ᴍᴀʏ 2020 ᴇᴠᴀʟᴜᴀᴛɪᴏɴ
Tumblr media
the month had been long and stressful, and quite honestly gahyeon’s glad that the day has finally come for their performance. being that she hadn’t properly performed in front of a camera for about two years, gahyeon hardly remembered how anxiety-inducing it had actually been for her. a lot had changed in those two years, more than maybe gahyeon realized. stepping on stage with the royal girls in front of the ceos, like she had so many times on a similar stage what felt like ages ago, gahyeon felt more sure of herself. she still had a bit of lingering anxiety, but not enough to scare her out of performing. she didn’t have to prepare herself, because gahyeon knew she was prepared. a month of preparation was more than enough time, and gahyeon was confident in their performance of their senior’s song.
not only that, but gahyeon had placed a lot of trust in her fellow royal trainees – they’d all been training together for what felt like so long, she knew she could trust them to do their part. not to mention, they all helped one another. there was a time where gahyeon worried the competitiveness of being a trainee would get to her, that it would be too much and she wouldn’t be able to handle herself. even worse was the fear of joining a company she knew so little about – not like she knew anything about them beyond what she gathered from online boards in the first place. she knew it would be hard, that she would sacrifice a lot in her journey to the stage – but she hadn’t expected to earn friends along the way. the royal girls worked together, they weren’t necessarily in competition with one another, gahyeon didn’t think.
gahyeon had worked with yena and jisoo to practice her singing lines, not feeling as though she was shunned for her lack of skill compared to the others. lee gahyeon was no vocalist, but she didn’t want to be tone-deaf – and the royal girls helped her with that. from day one, gahyeon was taken care of by the older, more senior trainees, and gahyeon passed that on to her juniors as much as possible. although this wasn’t quite the evaluation that she could help out much, mostly working with lisa and ensuring the two of them knew their parts and had the right sound while rapping, gahyeon knew that she had been shaped dramatically by the other trainees. while in her early days, gahyeon may have wondered if she was put into the right company – these days, gahyeon was sure she was where she was meant to be.
( ᴡʜʏ sᴏ ʟᴏɴᴇʟʏ ? )
the group performed as a unit, their song flowing easily; the vocals precise and the rap perfected to the syllable due to the diligent practice of the girls. they worked hard, hoping they could show the ceos that they were deserving of a win – hoping to show so jisub that his resources weren’t going to waste. it wasn’t often that they got to perform in front of their ceo, so they had to do their best in every opportunity they got. between the vocals, the rap, yena’s canjon, and rose’s guitar, the performance turned out as strong as they could’ve hoped. the royal girls worked as a cohesive unit after at the very least the good part of a year. no matter the time they spent together, the royal girls worked well together. gahyeon is sure she wouldn’t want it any other way.

as a master weaver of tall tales (read: liar), chanyeol is an expert at putting on a face and rolling with whatever comes out of his mouth, belief in his lies resting upon his features, often indecipherable whether or not he's joking around or speaking in all seriousness. it's an art he's mastered over the years, a mechanism meant to keep himself from diving too deeply into anything too emotional, a pretense of shallowness to keep him from going over the edge. to put it frankly, park chanyeol is a great liar.
a natural acting talent, he is not.
there's something quite different about being put on the spot, trying to go according to a script or presenting an item to the public for purchase. a lie is simple, made up on the spot, often outlandish and outrageous, spoken with a straight face that says he believes everything he's blurting out. so when they put a box of pepero in his hand and tell him to make up an impromptu cf, he stands there frozen for a few moments, wondering if he can pull this off.
if he were at home, dared to do this by his friends and family, he'd go overboard, crafting some elaborate story of knight and dragons and ghosts for good measure, but he thinks if he remembers the coaches' words, to take it seriously, and it's hard to craft such a large tale in thirty seconds without all the necessary cg and cast extras.
so he goes with what he knows. pepero is heavily linked to couples and romance, and he thinks he's had good practice at that over the past year and some odd months and because jisoo isn't there, the camera will have to be a stand-in for the moment.
he approaches the camera with a smile, as if the lens were her bright brown eyes, pretending to cover its eyes without actually touching the equipment, allowing for a bit of space at the bottom of the shot. he's internally dying inside, hating having to show this side himself in public to others, but he tries his best to hide how badly he's cringing at the moment. "wait. don’t open your eyes yet,” he says, voice much softer and gentler than usual. he pauses for a moment before speaking again. “okay, now.”
he moves his hand and backs up, arms perpendicular to the ground as he does a quick spin. “how many days has it been?” he asks, pretending to take out several sticks of pepero, saying the number ‘one’ cutely as he pretends to eat four of them. “eleven eleven?” he then holds up the box. “then let’s continue to be together for the rest of this box...”
he then steps to the side, free hand making a sweeping gesture as if there are stacks and stacks more of pepero boxes, “and all of these, too.”
he steps back into the center of the shot, as if it’s a new scene, holding up the box in his hand. “pepero. joining hearts since 1983.”
the cf, in his head, is over with that line, and he takes this opportunity to crouch down to the ground, every part of his body curling into itself. he thinks the worst is over, but then he remembers...
he has to do it two more times.

sweet child of mine.
shiah was a little partial and attached when it came to jisoo. they had shared some pretty private information in confidence, and had helped each other in training too. if shiah had to list some girls she wanted to debut with from the royal trainee roster, jisoo was definitely on that list and one of the ones who came to mind first. of course, debuting with her was out of shiah’s control, plus she was certain just about everyone would want to debut with jisoo. with those looks and that voice? whatever group jisoo ended up in would be popular, without a doubt.
she couldn’t help but wonder what jisoo thought about royal as a whole though. shiah knew when she was first scouted by them that it had been a surprise. she had been auditioning for trc, a completely different company, so thoughts of joining royal were nowhere to be found. but then it happened and in the audition it just felt right. she had gone through a lot of ups and downs, however. there were times she was convinced she would never renew her trainee contract with them, and there were times she couldn’t even dream of being anywhere else.
she decided it would be a good idea to check up on the other girl and how she was feeling about everything. it was all very stressful, and sometimes it was good to talk to someone who understood. “hey you.” she greets warmly, shooting her a smile. “how are you holding up? anything you need to talk about?”
