No hay reportero sin suerte y a lo largo de 20 años puedo presumir que nunca me ha faltado. Una semana antes de partir a ese viaje, en 2009, un RP me ofreció una entrevista y le dije que no, porque estaría en Europa, de cobertura. —¿Qué vas a visitar en Londres? —El Download Festival. El diablo quiso que ese mismo RP llevara la cuenta de un hotel Soho, propiedad de Rod Smallwood. —Es manager de una banda, no sé si la ubiques. Se llama Iron Maiden. Claro que sabía quien era Smallwood. Lo había visto en el documental “Flight 666”. Una cosa llevó a la otra y al final de aquel viaje mágico y misterioso, dos buenos amigos y yo terminamos en una fiesta privada, en la que tocó Steel Panther, y en la que conocimos a Janick y a Nicko. Fue una jornada memorable, en la que corrieron ríos de buena cerveza y se escuchó música a muy altos decibeles. En algún momento, César se me perdió y cuando volvió a aparecer, pronunció aquella célebre frase que me sirvió para escribir una crónica: —Güey, tú me metiste a una fiesta con Iron Maiden, pero yo te la acabo de matar. Acabo de orinar junto a Janice Gers. Roderick Charles Smallwood (born 17 February 1950) is an English music manager, best known as the co-manager of the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden and US metal band W.A.S.P. with his business partner, Andy Taylor, whom he met while studying at Trinity College, Cambridge, he founded the Sanctuary Records Group in 1979, which became the largest independent record label in the UK and the largest independent music management company in the world until its closure in 2007. Prior to managing Iron Maiden, Smallwood managed Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.
