A video of you crying at your father’s funeral goes viral but it’s okay, because he used to hold you up to the mirror and mock you too. You walk into a crowd of protestors until you’re beaten and trampled but it’s okay, because your father used to hit you too. He kicks you, and you chase the feeling.
He’s whimpering. Curled up like a child. A lapdog, waiting for its owner to come home. But it’s okay, because his father is still here. In the mockery. In his actions. His words. In him. He’s not coming out of that coffin, but it’s okay. He’s created you to be his own personal mausoleum instead. You have to take up his clothes, and his words, and his scorn, and stay in your cage while he lives in you. You're just a kid, but you can’t shield yourself from how your father rots inside you. Festers. Perfectly moulded. The dagger buried deep.
He made him. And now, he haunts him.

the thing is, roman wasn't going to give a eulogy about logan roy, his dad. he was going to give a speech about logan roy, his media mogul father.
then ewan happened.
clearly all the logan lore ewan dropped was stuff that kendall, shiv, and roman hadn't heard before. it's why they couldn't look away and listened intently. they were waiting for the moment where they could fully groan and go, 'oh great, here we go' and have someone escort ewan away. but then their jaws kinda dropped. because ewan actually gave an honest and sincere account of their father. ewan is probably one of the few other people in the room who actually knew logan. the person logan. not the media mogul titan logan. and that's why roman couldn't speak afterward. he was about to go onstage and spew a bunch of political, business-related bullshit about his father without actually ever saying anything real (we know this because his entire practice speech was about his dad's accomplishments). ewan came in and destroyed that plan. he forced roman to contend with the reality of his father as a human being, who roman misses very dearly and loved very much.
it wasn't hard to "pre-grieve" a media titan. of course roman was blasé about that. but he never grieved his dad
