And so it begins… We have safely arrived in England and explored the nearby village of Castle Combe on the day of our arrival, which is close to where self catering cottage is located. I love how the British often let their houses be engulfed by climbing plants and surrounded by beautiful gardens. It makes the houses look so much more beautiful and cozy. I can’t believe it is the 1st of April already! You? My husband has gotten his first vaccine now as well and travel seems to be more attainable in the near future. Maybe not to England as of yet, where I took the photo of this beautiful cottage but maybe a little day trip to explore the lovely surroundings of Austin of which we have seen hardly anything so far? But until my husband and I get our second shots and have reached maximum immunity we will continue to be very careful, stay put in Austin, and overnight travel has to wait. Could you live in a pink house? I would have no problem to move into this soft pink beautiful cottage. The architectural features are just exquisite and if you think it is still a little bit too sweet then rest assured that it is all balanced out by a lovely ancient graveyard which is right opposite to it hidden by the old stone wall in the foreground of this photo. Here is another shot of the beautiful, steep, cobbled streets and charming old cottages of Rye, located in East Sussex, England. I wonder how it would be to life in such an enchanting small town? Would it be better? I choose to believe it would. How can you not feel uplifted if you step out of your front door into such a fairytale like scene everyday? On the home front, temperatures have returned to what is normal for Austin in February. The forecast calls for a balmy high temperature of 70 F / 21 C today. It’s time to assess the damage that the arctic blast has done to the plants and trees. We have one big oak tree down and severe damage in form of big broken branches to many other trees. Thankfully nothing has hit the house despite the fact that we have old live oaks standing right next to it (see a pic of our house three photos back). Somebody is stopping by today to give us an estimate what it will cost to clear up the mess. When you are on your way to a certain destination and you unexpectedly pass by a cottage that stops you in your tracks. It makes you park the car, get out, and just stare in disbelief that something like this exists in the 21th century. This is what happened to me a few years back on a vacation trip in England and that is one of the many reasons why I always want to go back there. I mean, just look at this beauty! The cottage is almost completely covered with shrubs and climbing plants, it is engulfed in nature and builds a unit with her. It is so charming in its unpretentious simplicity.
