champions and the leadup to them becoming champions!

lance started his journey at 14, the traditional age in the dragon clan to let kids go out on journeys. they have to pass a certain test in order to receive a dragon type and he did (clair failed the first time rip). his first pokemon was a dratini ofc. he did all the johto gyms, beat the e4 and made champion rank, then went on to the kanto gyms (which i see as being a common thing among high level trainers from kanto and johto. you do your own region and make it to the champion level if you can then try the other 8 across the mountain). he travelled the world for a few years and after he returned, he joined the e4 at about 24ish and made his way up to being the leader of the e4. he was pretty content in that position but wasn't too upset to become sitting champion when red unexpectedly left.

steven became a trainer a bit older than most expect. he was content to travel and mine rocks and never really considered being a trainer until a bit after he turned 16 and his dad was like "well you're old enough to start learning how to take over from me someday : )" and steven was immediately like "actually i think im gonna try being a trainer I'll come back latermaybebye" and yeeted himself out of rustboro faster than you can say electrode. he ended up being very good at training which was just a bonus. shortly into his journey he learned about mega evolution and completely halted doing the hoenn gyms to yeet himself to kalos to learn about it properly. when he gets back he basically just. curbstomps everyone with the fairly unknown mega evolution ability and becomes champion at around 19ish.

wallace comes from a family thats very established in the contest circuit, with several older sisters who were all master ranks coordinators. he started young (10 or so) and very quickly rose to being a top coordinator in hoenn. however his older sisters all eventually stopped competing leaving him miles ahead of the rest. its very boring when you're basically just competing against yourself so he was like "well im going to try being a trainer now : )" at 16ish and was instantly successful at that too. it also scratched his competitive itch a bit better, especially when he became a gym trainer (and later gym leader) for juan as he liked the challenge of trying to fit his team to the challengers level. it got even better when this one guy managed to absolutely destroy everyone in the gym despite having a pretty severe type disadvantage and they became best friends and rivals : ) as for being champion, he takes over from steven shortly after the whole team magma-aqua fiasco.

cynthia had a very protagonist like journey. she set out at 12ish with her gible, got a pokedex from prof rowan and set about filling it (though she had already gotten a badge or two by the time she ran into rowan), had some grand adventure, became champion very young (13 or so) and has held onto her title ever since.

alder is super interesting to think about because he's old lol i imagine that the unova league was still fairly newish at that point in time so the concept of going to a gym to battle was very thrilling and unique, though not everyone thought it was a good thing. alder started his journey pretty young (13ish?) and took his sweet time doing the challenge as he just loved exploring so much. he only became champion at like 18 or 19 and not because he was bad at battling. he was probably one of the first champions in unova and reigned for quite a few years. then of course his first partner volcarona died. he resigned from battling for a long while until pulled back in a bit before bw starts. the previous champion unexpectedly retired due to illness, and since they hadn't been ousted by battle, all the members of the pokemon league voted for a new champion. alder was fairly surprised when he got a call saying he was up for champion duties round 2 if he wanted them, but agreed to come back until a new champion won the title.

iris challenged alder and won : ) haha, she's just a bit too young to have as much history as the others lol she wasn't ever a gym leader, but she did work as a gym trainer for her grandpa which was great practice.

diantha came from a rich family who wanted her to focus more on her acting career than battling but diantha was insistent on taking time off to try the gym challenge. (her parents were mortified. it's one thing to have a few leisurely battles at the battle maison where you can make connections but to join the rabble in the gym challenge? eugh.) but her parents bought her a specially bred ralts and off she went. she was young enough (14 or so) but by that point she had a decent acting career which led to her being noticed every so often. she quickly became champion (diantha's good and kalos doesn't exactly have a strong battling culture) which caused a huuuuuge argument between her and her parents who were still very stage parenting her.

leon is like cynthia. he was basically another little 10 year old protagonist prodigy who quickly rose to the top. but for some hc's, he got his sponsorship from kabu. motostoke was the closest gym so he and sonia took the train there to ask for it. kabu, as most gym leaders do, asked for a battle to see if they were good enough and was blown away by leon's already evident skill with his charmander.

Three Ships:

That I ship?? I guess that's the question?? I'll just pick the three most recent ones in my brain.

1. Emmet/Skyla (Pokemon BW): it started out as a joke with a friend and then it stopped being a joke. Whoopsie? I assume there's an agreed upon ship name for it somewhere but I personally call it DebateShipping.

2. Pico/Bf/Gf and the component ships (yes from FNF and Pico): Because nothing's funnier than hiring a hitman to kill your daughter's boyfriend, and then watching said hitman date them both! Also shout out to Bf/Gf specifically, because there's one thought between them and it's love!!

3. And because this is the Papyrus Undertale blog, Papyrus & Undyne best friends forever goes here! I don't actively romantically ship him with anyone, so friendship it is!!

Coincidentally (or not), Gens IV and V were more popular than Gens III and VI. Maybe Gen VII’s popularity will reflect on the ratings for the SM anime…but if it’s popular and the show still bombs, that’ll be interesting. And I saw someone on YouTube just now literally try to point this fact out about XYZ specifically. In the replies he got, there was nothing but reality denial and blind accusations of “hatred”. I just can’t with this fandom, sometimes… As I have said before and will say again, ratings doesn’t necessarily reflect quality or opinion, they reflect interest. I found a chart about it and drew lines for the baseline ratings that would be expected for each series (which is basically a million less that the previous series.) For the most part, the Original Series was well above the line, sinking under only toward the end of Johto but rising back up for the Johto League. Like I noted above, AG remained above water for around 80 episodes before sinking, only having a temporary rise to expected numbers during the Hoenn League before promptly dropping when Battle Frontier, viewed as a “filler” arc, started. DP sagged following the Summer School arc, rose back up around the time of HeartGold/SoulSilver’s release, but then fell again around the time of the Grand Festival and never recovered ‘til the end. BW did just fine for all of its 2010 and 2011 run, but then fell in 2012 until the Black 2/White 2-inspired “Season 2″ rebrand brought the numbers up again….until the Unova League, after which there was a freefall. XY held steady for its first half, then dropped like a stone in its second half. SM, as it turns out, is the most stable the anime’s ever been ratings-wise, the numbers rising to the line then back under over and over again like the tides of the ocean (appropriate!), with the main drop happening in the final year with the change in timeslot and the advent of streaming services providing an alternative way of watching the show. While the series known internationally as Journeys…..yeah, let’s just say there’s a pretty good reason we seem to be looking the end in the face right now. But like I said, ratings reflect interest, not quality. I personally found the second half of XY, especially XY&Z, to be drastically better than the first half, but that doesn’t matter since the target audience in Japan got burned out by the first half that their interest in the whole show dropped completely. That SM never had a comparable plummet speaks volumes about which style the kids preferred, so the producers embracing that style for Journeys makes sense.

Looking over those ratings, it's pretty clear that if anything, the biggest and most prolonged drop in ratings actually happened in AG, not Johto (even Johto at least tended to stay above the line even if it's undoubtedly less than Orange Islands or Kanto especially). Really acts as a bit of vindication to me that this proves the audience did NOT like Hidaka's decision to axe Misty, ultimately. Sure, AG started off strong, but it ended up tanking quickly, and not due to the fad dying out either. And it being turned into Contest hour at Ash's expense certainly didn't seem to help either, nor the rather cheap wins against Gym Leaders. DP for all its faults at least found a way to stabilize the ratings somewhat, and BW, even though I personally found Ash's character reduction to being an idiot distasteful, at least did overall well ratings wise until the league (which is obviously due to Ash losing his rank).

So, no, Johto, for all its faults, didn't nearly kill the show, and AG most certainly didn't save the show. Quite the opposite, the mishandling of AG if anything is what helped KILL the show ultimately. Sun and Moon, even though I really disagreed with the decision to go all Emperor's New School on it, at least did better by actually trying to do better quality for the most part, not to mention actually have Ash WIN an in-game league and, heck, even bring back Misty and Brock to fix one of the biggest glaring problems with the show (namely, the mishandling of gym leaders).

The AG-stans really need to look at the ratings better, because this definitely doesn't look at all like AG even saved the show at all and if anything is more likely to have driven the show's audience away in a massive number, ultimately leading to Ash being replaced after one mistake too many. You would think they'd learn their lesson after Orange Islands that replacing one of your leads would not work in the long run, but alas... Sure, maybe keeping Misty wouldn't have guaranteed that the ratings would go back to Kanto or Orange Islands level, but at least it would have had AG having its ratings be above the line rather than consistently below it, barely meeting it at best.

2, 5, and 12 with whichever insert you’re feeling?

*deep breath* HIIIIIIIII TIME TO DO SOME OF MY SUPER LATE ASKS (post here). Gonna be doing these for PokeManda cause the brainrot for Pokemon came back and hit SO STRONG

2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?

In DPPt and BW, they are briefly mentioned by an NPC. For Gen IV, someone in the contest hall will talk about them, commenting that they aspire to be a great coordinator like Amanda. In BW, she's mentioned in a TV program about how she came close to facing the champion, but lost her final Elite 4 battle. She makes her first actual appearance in BW2, first seen in the Floccesy Ranch offering to help the player with any tips for raising Pokemon that they might need, then later is seen with Roxie trying to calm her down. During BW2's post game, you can battle her at the Ranch as a post game boss.

She plays a larger role in SwSh, and is first seen outside of Spikemuth on Route 9 having a... Not-so-pleasant conversation with some Team Yell members and vaguely threatening to kick their asses if they don't open up the city and let the kids waiting to battle the gym leader inside. I think it'd be cute if Hop or the player offer to help her (hell, I think it'd be funny if it was Marnie who offered to help), but she tells the kids not to worry and this is something that adults should take care of. "You worry about how you'll tackle the next gym! I think I need to give these guys something else to yell about..." When the player leaves Spikemuth, they come back to an optional dialogue of Amanda scolding the members of Team Yell she absolutely wiped the floor with. I'm still deciding if she shows up at all during the Wyndon/Rose Tower fiasco at the end of the game, maybe shows up as a character in a cutscene wondering what the hell is going on, or giving the player a useful item and telling them to go kick some butt before leaving.

5. does your self insert have any special powers or abilities?

Does having ADHD and autism count--/j. Nah, it's nothing too special, but they struggled to make friends as a child, so they have ended up being very in-tune with their Pokemon, especially their Empoleon.

12. how would the fandom view your character?

I can see it going one of two ways: they'd think she's cute and down to earth, probably a little terrifying (cause her post game fight in BW2 would kinda be a blindside like Cynthia's in BW) OR she's a bit overbearing and hand-holdy to the player. Either way, would be recognized as a fun post game boss in BW2, definitely.

can i ask what's your ranking of the spe arcs? i know you did one before but i can't find it anymore, and your opinions may have changed since then.

I know I made one a long time ago, but... yeah. It's been a while, SS arc happened, BW2 finally finished, SM/USM also finished, so... here we go!

#1) DPPt This shouldn't be too much of a surprise. Favorite Dex Holder in a favorite region, but also featuring a peaceful friendly adventure through the region (for a lot of it) without the stress or the mess like in XY, or being rushed like in SS, which gives plenty of time for character development, thus allowing Platinum to warm up from a cold little bitch (hehe) to a sweet and adorable girl that she is now. I know that DP and Pt are listed as two different arcs, but I see no reason for that. Same region, same enemies, same plot, same protagonists, same month (Pt is like 2 weeks after DP), etc. SM and USM aren't separate arcs, right? That also has same region, same enemies, same plot, same protagonists, same bullsh*t, even though the time gap is much bigger.

#2) GSC This also shouldn't be too much of a surprise, given how Gold and Crystal were my top favorites for a while... a long time ago. My, how things have changed...

If I made another preference list, they'd have stumbled even further as Sword and Shield rose in rank... ahem. Anyways. If you've seen my Pokemon history post, you would've seen that GSC was the first arc I read from the start, and I only aborted it to start from RGB halfway through when I realized that GSC wasn't standalone. And I really enjoyed it. So much of the GSC arc preference and Gold/Crystal preference would be attributed to nostalgia.

#3) RGB In the same vein as above, the first arc that I actually finished would get the most amount of nostalgia. And having only seen Pokemon anime before, this was really refreshing... and shocking. And I loved it.

#4) FRLG While the plot of FRLG might be... ehn, I really liked the ending (hehe), and I also absolutely loved the evident character development for Blue. In fact, I actually didn't like Blue for the most part, but her preference skyrocketed after FRLG, and hasn't dipped since then. If anything, with the pairing shift, she rose even higher.

#5) RS While I absolutely enjoyed reading the RS arc normally the first time (instead of three non consecutive volumes in the wrong order in three different languages), the ending... was horsesh*t, and that just kind of ruined the lasting impression, thus the overall experience. Still though, compared to the other arcs...

#6) BW In the opposite vein, I didn't really enjoy much of BW. I really enjoyed bits and pieces of adorable Black & White moments, sure. But overall, meh. But... that ending. Hehehe... One of the best lasting impressions!

#7) SS Sure, it may be rushed. But I'm enjoying it. Maybe it's because I had non-existent expectations, and the first impressions for Sword and Shield were pretty bad. When expectations are very low, you can get pleasantly surprised!

#8) E It was a bit of a clusterf*ck near the end, but I remember enjoying it quite a bit until that point. So... yay. Also, compared to the other arcs...

#9) XY If you remember, I really didn't like X for a long time.

He was ranked #17 out of 20. While Y was ranked so high. So I really didn't like how things went on in the arc, especially near the end, when random ass appearances began to happen to fulfill the quota of showing everything at least once. So that was painful. The only reason why this arc is not further down is only because of the very end, and the fact that my second favorite Dex Holder exists.

#10) HGSS It was short and messy, but... better than the rest of the crap.

#11) Y I never liked Yellow, as you might suspect. I never liked the bullsh*t powers to begin with, so the arc where that occurred the most... blech.

#12) SM/USM Yes, I really like Moon. No, it's not nearly enough to save this mess. Also, whatever preference from Moon gets countered by Sun. And I think my dislike for Sun greatly outweighs my liking of Moon. So... yikes. There's a reason why Moon appears so much in my recent banters and short stories, while Sun is never mentioned.

#13) BW2 Yes, the arc is a total mess. It's somehow far too short while also taking way too f*cking long. Its only saving grace comes from the BW cast, and not the BW2. But hey, at least he's finally free, and this mess is also over.

My Review of Rent-A-Girlfriend

How did I get into this anime? Let’s just say due to a few websites I frequent around decided to be little whore-ish, I became curious by this particular title. Let’s just say they were mentioning this one at least every other day prior to the premier. So out of natural curiosity and knowing nothing of what I’m getting into, I decided to add another Friday anime to my watch list. I guess Fridays are my busy day for watching anime!

Kazuya Kinoshita is a 20 year old college student. Life seems to be going well for him until his girlfriend decides to dump him.

Not even 30 seconds into this anime and this sad-sack gets dumped!

SERIOUSLY! 18 SECONDS! NEW FRIGGIN’ RECORD!!!

So after Kazuya gets dumped, he ends up on a website and before you know it, he’s made arrangements to go on a date with a rented girlfriend! Yes, these are very much a thing. You can go to a website and pay a woman to go on a date with you. Apparently, Japan has a lot of these services and it does get a little ewwie with it so I’m gonna move on with the synopsis.

The girl he ends up going out with is named Chizuru Ichinose. The first date seemed to be going well, but Kazuya felt off by this girl. He just thought Chizuru was just playing with her clients hearts, plus he’s still a little heart-broken from his previous girlfriend, so he gives her a bad review. So when they go on their second date, Chizuru’s cutesy, sweet act is replaced with someone who is tempermental and sassy.

Just then, Kazuya gets word his grandmother collapsed!

I know it’s weird in the synopsis, but just go with it!

With word of his grandmother in the hospital, Kazuya ends up taking Chizuru to the hospital with him. Turns out Kazuya’s family jumped to the obvious conclusion that this girl is his girlfriend and they went nuts. Mostly at the fact that their son actually got a cute girlfriend! Add another layer of WTF to this cake, Chizuru’s grandmother is in this exact, same hospital as Kazuya’s grandmother. And both ladies are over the moon that these two are dating (even though that’s far from the truth). Chizuru hasn’t even told her family that she’s working at Rent-a-Waifu! Well, let’s just break things off and let the family down easy.

Oh, look! They both go to the same university. Oh look! They’re also next door neighbors. I smell shenanigans!

BETWEEN THE SUB AND THE DUB: At this moment, the only one streaming this series is Crunchyroll. A few weeks into the premier, Crunchyroll started airing a dub. As for the sub, this is my first time really listening to the main lead’s seiyuu, Shun Horie. But the rest of the cast has a nice mixture of memorable voices like Aoi Yuuki, Rie Takahashi, Sora Amamiya, Gakuto Kajiwara…oh fuck!

DAMMIT ASTA, STOP HAUNTING MY EAR-DRUMS!

As for the dub, Crunchyroll is currently publishing an episode once a week. The dub is just okay in my opinion, really nothing to write home about. The only thing I can say is that Aleks Le did a fairly-decent job voicing Kazuya. After voicing Zenitsu last year, he’s got a knack for voicing wimpy twats. Here’s what you might recognize these folks from.

SHIPPING: I can honestly say I didn’t expect the Rent-a-Girlfriend and the Ex-Bitch to meet each other in the second episode. Even after going on a few dates with Chizuru, Kazuya still finds himself “beating his meat” to the thought of his ex, Mami. Only for the girls to beat your meat to change places just a few episodes later!

Oh yes, it’s that kind of series! Kazuya jacks off quite a bit.

Kazuya x Chizuru: At times it feels like Kazuya is really falling for Chizuru for who she really is and not the façade she puts up as a rental girlfriend. But I guess the number of awkward setups and situations these two have been thrown in throughout the series can do that to Kazuya. I mean, how else do you expect Kazuya jacking it off to Chizuru when he’s trying to think of his ex?! Yeah, he’s lied to his family, Chizuru’s grandmother, and all of his friends about this relationship and this relationship is as fake as a three-dollar bill. But there are a few genuine moments that show these two care for each other. Kazuya was ballsy enough to jump off a moving boat to save Chizuru when she fell overboard. And Kazuya felt concerned when Chizuru was thinking about leaving the rental girlfriend profession. Though that could be Kazuya being a pathetic sack of shit and wanting to continue this farce relationship and paying a girl for some attention! It’s so hard to say something kind about Kazuya wanting this relationship to work. But for what it’s worth, I like the farce ship better than the next thing I’m going to speak about.

Kazuya x Mami: I don’t like this bitch and I hate this ship. From the get-go you go in hating this succubus. And when we see her again in episode 2, bitches be bitches! Getting drunk in a public setting and making fun of Kazuya not being man enough for her (in the sexual sense). Then, we get Mami trying to go home with Kazuya when Chizuru is gone. But we don’t stop there, she’s trying at every opportunity to make Kazuya drop everything and fall in love with her again. She’s the one that dumped him, but can’t stand seeing Kazuya with anyone else (no matter the awkward circumstances). It’s clear that Mami has severe jealousy issues. I mean, Chizuru is prettier and nicer than Mami. Meanwhile, Mami is a manipulative scum-wad with the charm of a poisonous snake.

Kazuya x Ruka: Ruka was a rental girlfriend from a different agency and was on a double date with Kazuya, Chizuru, and Kazuya’s idiot friend that sounds like Asta. But due to several misunderstandings between Kazuya and Ruka, turns out Kazuya is the only man to get her heart rate up. So Ruka cuts ties with the idiot friend who hired her and has set sights on Kazuya. And she will fight for her man no matter what. She’s even ballsy enough to interrupt Kazuya’s family celebration of New Years by coming in like an asteroid to fuck things up. At this point in the series, Kazuya’s grandmother is dead-set on him marrying Chizuru. Any other girl is shit compared to her! But Ruka will continue to do her thing. Even applying to the same job that Kazuya works at!

Kazuya x Sumi! You expect me to say something about this? They had one bleeping date! And she’s barely seen outside of the opening and ending themes. If there’s more interactions in season two, holla back at me because this ain’t happening. Although, I’ll support the fuck out of this ship over Kazuya x Mami!

BIG SIMPIN’: So being an older millennial (or X-ennial as I’m currently classified under), I am not hip to the lingo of these youngins. Because of Kazuya, the internet uproared by calling him a phrase known as a “simp”. Well, I don’t want to seem like some out-of-touch boomer. So I’m just going to look up this “simp” term and see if this is legitimate. Let’s see what the Slang-tionary says.

“Simp is a slang insult for men who are seen as too attentive and submissive to women, especially out of a failed hope of winning some entitled sexual attention or activity from them.”

Okay. I think it’s time for the rap interlude of this review.

ENDING: Being a rental girlfriend isn’t something Chizuru wants to do, but this gives her practice in what she really wants to do, which is become an actor. And as of recently, Chizuru has been thinking about quitting the rental girlfriend agency. So what would happen if Chizuru quit being a rental girlfriend? That’s a question for another day and another season!

So only a few people have learned about Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship being the most complicated farce in anime history. Halfway into the series with Ruka’s introduction, she caught on about Chizuru being a rental girlfriend. And because of that incident, Kazuya decided to come clean to his idiot friend, Shun. When Shun hired Ruka to be his rental girlfriend, dude was on top of the world. But when Ruka exposed what he did in front of Kazuya, Shun got severely depressed. Kazuya decides to pay for Chizuru to take Shun out on a date. That’s when Shun finds out that Kazuya hired Chizuru after Mami dumped him.

You know what? I have to spring this up! How long did you think Kazuya was going to hide the rental girlfriend thing to his friends? He’s friends with a bunch of stinkin’ virgins. Lonely, stinkin’ virgins! Plus, if Chizuru is rated #1 on a Google search for top rental girlfriends (as it was established in episode 10), I’m surprised no one else caught on, including the grandmothers. Kazuya’s grandmother is constantly playing on her smart phone. Shun is on the internet all the time. I’m surprised there isn’t an annoying pop-up ad in Japanese Google that would flash at them at any point saying, “Meet legal Japanese chicks in your area” redirecting them to the rental girlfriend website. Followed by giving you a gnarly computer virus!

Well, we’re 10 episodes in a 12 episode series. Why not finally introduce the fourth girl that we’ve been seeing in the opening and ending themes all season?! Chizuru asked Kazuya for a favor to go out with the new rental girlfriend at the agency to help boost her confidence. Enter, Sumi! The best way to describe this silent, moe-blob is a less busty version of Mikuru Asahina. Kazuya and Sumi’s date went over somewhat okay. Kazuya saved Sumi from a bunch of thugs. And while Sumi was silent throughout the entire date, she managed to squeak out a thank you at the end. So not a bad date, right?

Unfortunately, during the date, Mami saw them and trailed them. And it went down just as you would imagine! Mami confronts Kazuya, Kazuya comes up with some bullshit lie to Mami, Sumi is still silent, and Mami is up to no good after she leaves.

Because Mami learned Sumi’s full name, she went to the internet to find a profile or something on a social network. That’s when Mami learned that not only Sumi was a rental girlfriend, but Chizuru as well. It’s not so bad that Shun knows about Chizuru, but if Mami finds out, game over. Game over, Kazuya! So what happens next?

Mami catfished Chizuru by calling her out for a date using the rental girlfriend website! Then they go to the karaoke bar Kazuya works at for their “date”.

GAME OVER KAZUYA! GAME OVER! You lost all 5 lives. Please return to world 1 and may God have mercy on your simpin’ ass!

Kazuya watched their date from a distance (and this time he didn’t get caught eavesdropping like the last time he followed Chizuru). And after a cute mention of the singers to the opening and ending theme to the series, Mami and Chizuru end their date with an exchanging of words. All this proved is that Mami is still a jealous bitch with a dead look in her eyes and Chizuru likes Kazuya. We think! Either Chizuru meant what she said to Mami or she’s a really good actress. When Chizuru came back to the apartment complex, Kazuya met her outside and thanked her for what she said to Mami followed by a confession.

Ah yes, a confession of love! As the credits roll, we see flashbacks of the past 12 episodes and end the series on a cute note and a possible opening to an OVA and we can end from…

Oh wait, there’s more!

Kazuya says he wants Chizuru to continue being his rental girlfriend. Because he knows she’s planning on quitting the rental girlfriend business! So he smooths that over! Both played this off with a wary poker face, but behind closed doors, they are sweating bullets.

OH, and season two has been green-lit. Fabulous!

This anime was addicting to watch. I don’t know if it was as addicting as Uzaki-chan. Then again, I picked to watch Rent-a-Girlfriend over Uzaki-chan. But this was an addicting train-wreck! Watching this dumbass try to fool his family and friends that he really was able to get a cute girlfriend for a full year! How the hell could anyone fall for that mess? People still watched this dumpster fire of a relationship right, so why bitch about the stupidity of Simpy McSimperson over here? I am glad we’re getting a second season because we really didn’t get a chance to see much of Sumi. I know she’s no contender when you put her next to the great Chizuru, but good golly, give this girl some screentime aside from the one episode she got. They made her seem like she was going to be a big player in this anime, but only getting a bit role. I also want to see if Mami is going to redeem herself from the cunt we saw since 18 seconds into the series. I seriously doubt it, but it just gives me more reason to cuss at the computer, calling her every horrible name in the book. And as for Ruka…there’s nothing to say. She’s just gonna be second best no matter what the fuck happens.

As addicting as this anime was, I can’t ignore how many times I had to facepalm at every, stupid action done by Kazuya. I mean, several times per episode, butt-for-brains does something stupid that makes us say, “Dude, WTF” or “Bruh”. Lying to your family, lying to your friends, giving a bad review to your rental girlfriend for giving you great service, jacking it to your ex when you’re clearly hot for Chizuru, following a guy around because he spends the day with Chizuru, and it just goes on and on! You want to root for this twerp in hopes he gets the girl of his dreams in the end, but at the same time, you’re like, “This guy is a total dink.”

Oh, let’s see what season two has to offer…whenever that comes.

First Pokemon Game?

--Pokemon Pearl!! My parents bought it for me for Christmas in 2007. They also got me a pink Nintendo DS Lite as well 🥰 I still have it. In 2009, my parents bought me Pokemon Platinum for my birthday. I remember that day well. They took me to Cheddars to eat, then when we got home my Mom gave me the game 🥰

First Starter Pokemon?

-CHIMCHAR!!! I named him Fireball 🔥! I know...10 year old me was so original lmaooo. He's now sitting in my game all alone 😪 Also...Fireball had pokerus??? He spread it to my whole team so that was pretty cool.

-....fuck that's a hard one. I'm going to say Snivy because she carried me throughout Pokemon Black and White.

Silver and Gary were also fantastic rivals and they always gave me a good challenge. Hop is also my favorite and I actually felt bad for beating him 😅

-The only one that have really made a impression on me was Cynthia. I don't know the name of the other Champions lmaooo.

--Favorite Antagonists?

-Team Galactic. Always and Forever. I miss their ugly ass bowl cuts 🥰

-Vaporeon! I got a Evee in Pokemon Pearl and named her Cerulean 🥰 she was super strong. Second favorite is Sylveon. My Sylveon was super OP in Pokemon X.

-Favorite Pokemon Game?

-Pokemon X. It was the first game where I could design my character and choose to be black. Not only that, I just loved that I had SO MANY childhood friends and that they could have a nickname for me. I spent a good chunk of my money on clothes, and then I couldn't buy potions for Gym Challenges. At least I looked stylish 😎 Plus, I loved Mega Evolutions and the story of Pokemon XY in general. (I'm still pissed we didn't get Pokemon Z)

--A Pokemon Game I could appreciate more?

- Definitely Pokemon Black and White. I wish I had played Pokemon BW 2, but at the time it was announced I was particularly interested in it. Not only that...I was struggling in school and I knew my parents weren't going to buy it for me so I never asked...now that I'm a adult I guess I can play it xD

--Least Favorite Pokemon Game?

-Pokemon Sun and Moon. I don't even want to get into it 😕

--Pokemon Game I wished I finished

- Pokemon Yellow is sitting in my Nintendo 3DS...I don't think I've booted it up since high school or my first year of college 😅 I hacked the game to get Mew, so that was cool!

--Pokemon game you're currently playing?

-Pokemon Sword and Shield! I just got to the top of Rose Tower to see what Leonand Chairman Roseare up to 👀! I'll buy the DLC in a couple of months. I seriously love this game. It's so much fun. Some of the newer mechanics did irritate me at first, but I looked past and as a whole it's a good game.

And whenever I think about it...I play Pokemon Soul Silver too. Same with Pokemon: Let's Go Evee!

--Favorite Pokemon Movie?

-Pokemon Movie 2000!!! The Celebi movie was fantastic too! Actually all the Kanto/Johto/Hoenn movies were good.

--Favorite Pokeani Season?

-Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. I loved getting up early before school and watching a few episodes.

☠️😈🌓🔥 bonus points if you can tell me why

It took me several hours to type this all down, Ruckis. You were in for deep shit the moment you sent me those specific ones. Prepare for death by text wall.

☠️ Evil team leader/boss battle soundtrack 

1. It’s gotta be Maxie/Archie’s battle theme from ORAS. I grew up with the original Ruby, so you can imagine the absolute ball I had when I got to fight Maxie again in OR. I was like a little kid with her favorite ice cream when the battle theme blessed my ears. To this day, this theme stays at the top in terms of boss battle music.

2. Lysandre’s battle theme in USUM has me HYPE. I’m so pissed that I never got to play it myself, because the USUM version of the theme fucking slaps, but then again, I like to make it a habit to power up like crazy to wipe out other trainer’s teams in just a few turns.

3. From the same game, the theme that plays when you battle Giovanni. Sweet JE SUS the opening hits you in the FACE. Giovanni means business this time, and HOOOOOO THAT FUCKING GUITAR. HOOH. That is the theme of “you are going to suffer and I will enjoy every last second of it”.

My honorary mentions: Ghetsis’ battle theme in BW, Guzma’s battle theme in SM, both of Lusamine’s battle themes in SM, and Lysandre’s battle theme in XY, Chairman Rose’s battle theme in SwSh

😈 Evil team battle soundtrack

1. While they’re not necessarily evil, Team Yell’s battle theme in SwSh is a banger and the opening is GORGEOUS. As someone with deepseated love of metal, Team Yell wins my heart and my first place spot.

2. The Rainbow Rocket battle theme slaps hard holy shit???? Team Rocket means business this time, and their battle theme in USUM is solid gold proof of that...I’d say more, but again, I NEVER GOT TO PLAY THE FUCKING GAME ;^;

3. Look, Team Galactic’s battle theme in DP will always slap for me. Something about this spacey(yeah i know that was BAD) theme resonates with me and brings me joy...if only my copy of Pearl didn’t die on me(she lived long and gave me much joy. RIP.)

My honorary mentions: Team Plasma’s battle themes in BW/B2W2, Aether Foundation battle theme from SM, Team Flare battle theme from XY, Team Magma/Team Aqua theme from ORAS

🌓 VS Legendary Pokemon battle theme

1. You know a battle theme is good when it has you in literal tears, and that is what the 3rd phase of the Eternatus battle theme from SwSh does for me, like HOLY SHIT???? Listen, Ruckis, cuz I don’t know if you understand what this along with this game’s gym leader battle theme does for me. I. WAS. CRYING. IT FUCKING HITS YOU IN A WAY YOU NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD. THERE IS THE EMBODIMENT OF “SHIT HAS REACHED A LEVEL OF REAL THAT HAS NEVER BEEN THOUGHT POSSIBLE, BUT THE CARDS ARE IN YOUR HANDS”. THIS IS MORE THAN JUST A LEGENDARY POKEMON BATTLE THEME, THIS IS THE VERY MUSIC FOR YOUR MOTHERFUCKING VICTORY. YOU. ARE. GOING. TO. MOTHER. FUCKING. WIN!!!!! ...Sorry, it’s just that this theme, when I heard it, had me in tears because it got me to a level of hype that I haven’t felt since I beat a Spyro game for the first time.

2. I, in all good conscience, could never forget my battles with the Lake Trio in DP. A lot of DP’s tracks have an odd surfer quality to it from my perspective, and given these three live smack dab in the middle of fucking LAKES, I’d say it fits. You don’t fuck with the bitches who live in the lake.

3. When you hear the battle theme for the Legendaries in BW/B2W2, lemme just say you are in for a BRAWL. Even with how superpowered I typically make my Pokemon, THESE LEGENDARIES BEAT MY ASS LIKE AN AFRICAN DRUM AND THIS THEME SAID SO. These legendaries are the personification of “fuck you”, BECAUSE THAT’S LITERALLY HOW MY FIGHTS WITH THESE LEGENDARIES WENT DOWN.

My honorary mentions: Giratina’s battle theme in Platinum, Super-Ancient Pokemon battle theme(Normal and Primal Reversion) in ORAS, the Tapu battle theme in SM, Ultra Necrozma battle theme, Xerneas/Yveltal/Zygarde battle theme in XY, Mewtwo(any gen)

🔥 Rival battle soundtrack 

1. Of all the things that surprised me, to hear this theme accompanying Wally in ORAS ranks highly on that list...but this theme fucking works, man. It shows you just how far Wally has come as a trainer. This boy has done his absolute damnedest to get to where he wants to be as both a person and a trainer. Of all the rival themes, this one is what gave me the most pain beating a rival, and not just because of the nostalgia of when I beat Wally in the original Ruby, but because dammit, he worked so fucking hard and I took out the first pokemon he ever caught in his life. I’m so sorry, Wally. I am so fucking sorry, my sweet boy. You worked so hard, but I needed to get past you to do what I needed to do, and it hurt me every second I had to battle you.

2. As an eternal sucker for nostalgia, it is purely for this reason that the rival battle theme in DP stays in heart. The rival battle theme is a banger and it holds a soft spot in my heart in memory of my late Pearl copy.

3. The battle theme of Brendan/May(depends on if you picked a boy or a girl character of course) in ORAS just has to be on this list, and this strongly has to do with the nostalgia the original brought me, and boy did the energy here go UP in the ORAS version. 

My honorary mentions: Hop’s battle theme(normal and final) in SwSh, Marnie’s battle theme(normal and final) in SwSh, Bede’s battle theme in SwSh, Blue’s battle theme(any version).

Sword and Shield arc theory

So a little theory on how I see Pokemon Special Sword and Shield arc will be like. I will start by saying I see the actual SWSH games being more grounded coming off more gen 1 and 2 where legendaries are more sought out because they are powerful Pokemon instead of special power they have since almost all of the major characters introduced have something to do with the title Pokemon Champion, and that is what will play the main driving point of the story for both game and manga the desire to be the champion. As such it will most likely feel like a combination of the RS and BW with the whole rivalry of mainly Sword and Shield and having the League playing a role with the actual story.

As for the characters the characters that will play a role in the game's story they will most likely be the same, but for Sword and Shield well let me guess their personalities (note I am just assuming Sword = Victor, and Shield = Gloria)

Sword will be like a Jonathan Joestar & Jon Snow character a kind of dull but just really good natured you can’t really seem to hate. Able to see the big picture and learn to let go of stuff.

Shield will be like Merida & Ygritte someone who doesn’t let anyone stand in their way and quick to call something out. And yes a big part of the character will be the Scottish Pokemon trainer meme however people want to see this and I don’t see it happening in the games because usually if the other player choice shows up they usually don’t do a lot with maybe the only exception being the XY games, and for the anime well no they will just have her be a Pokemon coordinator like the other female player characters “hold on what if there are no contest in SWSH?” which my answer will be there wasn’t any in XY but damn the anime found a way and ya they called it showcases but it really is just Pokemon Contest with only real difference is it’s girls only. So ya manga is the only real place I can see this character come out and be done in a good way. Side note I need to find more video game manga cause if they are at all like Pokemon and Kingdom Heart’s then you can see really how both characters and stories get really shaped good.

Sword & Shield being a Johnny and Gyro with two rivals able to travel together even though they know only one can win it will most likely involve them rotating who faces a gym first with us seeing the first battle the only exception I can see is Sword vs Bea & Shield vs Allister.

Alright, it’s time for universe brain pokemon royalty theories again! Firstly, the bros Hop and Leon. Can’t really jump to conclusions considering neither are confirmed royalty, since it’s just Leon’s king aesthetic. Hop also seems to live in the tiny starting town with you which is...not something you would do if you could live in a castle. Normally I’d leave it at that, but there are 2 reasons (other than Leon having N vibes) that it’s still a possibility.

a) it’s a similar situation to the other royals so far. Lysandre and N (Ghetsis too if they are related) are descendants of royalty, but there really isn’t an actual royal family any more. Or perhaps in Hop and Leon’s case, a different family rose to power and they lost their importance.

b) this one is sort of out there, but their eye colors are VERY...well, eye-catching. I immediately recognized the gold color in the legendary’s eyes to be very similar to the brothers’ eyes

Normally I’d be like “whatever”, but the prominence of siblings was unheard of until last gen (plots had only focused on parent and child relationships before). And what did the aether siblings have?? Legendaries. Gladion was also revealed later than Lillie so Hop and Leon being revealed at the same time is interesting.

Brothers in particular have a huge prominence in mythology, usually beating each other up unfortunately (I have a bad feeling about this). I want to point out the Romulus and Remus legend in particular, since the brothers were raised by a wolf. This intrigues me if they are going this route because they already did the Romulus and Remus legend in BW’s story (the twin brothers being essentially raised by the original dragon). I would say the wolves could be based off Norse wolf legends considering Kalos was also Norse based, however the wolves are literally in combat with each other as Romulus and Remus were. It also looks like they fuse at the ending so? Kyurem 2? The similarity between the two designs is on a level even greater than Zekrom and Reshiram tho.

If either of the brothers has Corviknight that would seal the deal. Corvids play a roll in the Romulus and Remus legend (an omen to the brother who will fail).
