The Angel of the Rue de Turbigo 

Spanning three stories of an apartment building at 57 rue de Turbigo, the colossal, smiling stone angel surveys the human comedy of Paris unfolding at its feet. With massive wings unfurled like a modern Winged Victory, its feathers brush against the fourth-floor windows of the building, designed by architect Eugène Demangeat in 1860.

L'angelo della rue de Turbigo, Parigi.

Distribuito su tre piani di un condominio al 57 di rue de Turbigo, il colossale e sorridente angelo di pietra osserva la commedia umana di Parigi che si svolge ai suoi piedi. Con le enormi ali spiegate come una moderna Vittoria Alata, le sue piume sfiorano le finestre del quarto piano dell'edificio, progettato dall'architetto Eugène Demangeat nel 1860.

Demangeat fu un attore chiave nel boom edilizio e demolitivo del XIX secolo a Parigi, orchestrato da Georges Eugène Haussmann, noto come Barone Haussmann, sotto l'egida di Napoleone III.

L'obiettivo era aerare, abbellire e unificare la città, gran parte della quale era rimasta, fino ad allora, un labirinto medievale di strade tortuose oscure e insalubri.

Al suo posto posto da più di 150 anni, l'angelo della rue de Turbigo continua a irradiare il suo fascino eccentrico.

The French jewelry house Boivin is associated with some of the most original and impeccably crafted jewelry of the 20th century. The firm was founded in 1890 by the jeweler Rene Boivin (1864-1917). At the age of 17, Rene became an apprentice jeweler in the workshop of his older brother Victor, and also took drawing lessons. Having started his own business, he, like many other young jewelers, created pieces for famous jewelery houses such as Mellerio dits Meller or Boucheron until he acquired his own clientele. The early works of the master, which are very rare, have a design traditional for the end of the 19th century, such as this pendant with diamonds, the authorship of which is attributed to René Boivin. The Great Easter Ambulation

A hallucinating, insomniac, and increasingly fragile flaneur wanders the streets of Paris over the long Easter weekend of 1960.

Paris, Easter weekend 1960. The French composer Jacques Besse sets out on a marathon stroll through the city that begins on Good Friday, when he leaves his brother's house on rue de Turbigo, and ends on Easter Monday, when, having declared himself Mars, the god of war, to mystified restaurant-goers, he ambles back toward Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The Great Easter—a memoir in the form of a novella, or perhaps a novella in the form of a memoir—is the first-person account of a hallucinating, insomniac, and increasingly fragile flaneur's unending ambulation.

The Great Easter was first published in French in 1969 and became famous a few years later when in their milestone work Anti-Oedipus Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari referred to Besse's walk as the quintessential “double stroll of the schizo.” (Besse was a patient at Guattari's psychiatric clinic La Borde.) Besse's stroll purées past and present, real and not-real: a rendezvous with a prostitute intersects with Sergei Eisenstein and his entourage, a bellowed song about the sea is overwhelmed by “memories” of the 1830 July Revolution, and the entire universe gathers itself up into a bubble above Gare d'Austerlitz. He is seized by anxiety, released by joy; he announces his cosmic celebrity via a huge (imaginary) television while freezing in the night and calling out for bread. 커피에 대한 자부심이 강한 프랑스, 그 중에서도 파리에는 매력적인 카페가 많다. 여행 기간은 한정되어 있고 가야 할 카페는 너무 많다. 그렇다면 정해진 시간 내에 어디를 가야 좋은 커피를 맛볼 수 있을까. 특히 좋은 라떼는 어디에 있을까. 잘 로스팅된 원두로 만든 에스프레소에 우유를 넣어 만드는 라떼. 파리에서 훌륭한 라떼를 제공하는 카페 5곳을 소개한다. 일부 카페는 아이스 음료 역시 제공하기도 한다.

1. Fringe

- 마레에 위치한 Fringe는 싱글 오리진을 이용한 커피와 각종 티, 초콜릿, 간단한 음식을 판매한다. 아이스 라떼를 제공하기 때문에 아이스가 없을까봐 불안해하지 않아도 된다. 게다가 Fringe에서 제공되는 아이스 라떼는 맛이 훌륭하다. 우유가 고소하고 풍미가 강한 에스프레소를 유연하게 만들어준다. 특히 Fringe는 엄선한 포토그래퍼의 사진을 전시하기도 한다. 매장 한켠에 사진집과 잡지를 진열해 놓으며 이는 계속 업데이트 된다.

2. La Caféothèque

- 1호선 Saint-paul역과 7호선 Pont Marie역 인근에 위치한 La Caféothèque는 2005년 문을 연 카페다. 30종 이상의 원두를 다루며 매일 스페셜 티를 제공한다. 2009년부터는 바리스타 교육도 실시하고 있다. La Caféothèque의 라떼는 적당한 고소함이 온 입안을 감싸 안으며 그 향을 가득 퍼지게 만든다. 이곳 역시 아이스 라떼를 제공하지만 뜨겁게 마시는 것이 더 좋은 풍미를 느낄 수 있기 때문에 뜨거운 것으로 마실 것을 권한다.

3. KB Caféshop

- 2010년 몽마르뜨 근처에 문을 연 카페. 이곳 역시 직접 로스팅을 하며 다양한 종류의 커피를 제공한다. KB Caféshop에서 제공하는 라떼는 파리의 카페 그 어느 곳에 견주어도 훌륭한 맛과 향이 뒤쳐지지 않는다. 특히 바람 부는 계절에 테라스에 앉아 바람을 맞으며 주변의 회전목마와 큼직한 나무를 바라보는 재미가 쏠쏠하다. 2019년 6월, 바스틸 광장 근처에 세컨샵으로 Back In Black이라는 카페를 런칭했다.

4. Partisan Café Artisanal

- 퐁피두 센터에서 조금만 걸어가면 찾을 수 있는 카페. Partisan Café Artisanal 역시 직접 로스팅한 원두를 제공한다. 커피는 Italien과 New wave, 두 가지 원두로 제공된다. 이곳의 라떼 역시 그 맛과 향이 훌륭하다. 향이 입안에 가득 퍼졌다가 목으로 넘기는 순간 깔끔하게 사라져 뒷맛이 개운하다. 이곳에서는 New wave 원두를 이용한 아이스 라떼 마시기를 권한다.

5. Boot Café

- 마레에 위치한 Boot Café는 이미 한국인들 사이에서 유명하다. 과거의 신발 수선집 자리에서 운영하고 있다. 수선집의 간판을 그대로 쓰며 하늘색 외관 때문에 사진을 남기기도 좋다. 이곳의 라떼는 우리에게 아주 친숙한 맛으로 제공된다. 특히 아이스 라떼는 훌륭하다는 한국의 여러 카페에서 마시는 라떼와 비슷한 인상을 준다. 이곳 역시 아이스로 선택해 마시는 것을 권한다.

O anjo da rue de Turbigo, Paris.

Distribuído por três andares de um prédio de apartamentos na rue de Turbigo, 57, o colossal e sorridente anjo de pedra observa a comédia humana de Paris se desenrolar a seus pés. Com suas enormes asas abertas como uma moderna Vitória Alada, suas penas tocam as janelas do quarto andar do edifício, projetado pelo arquiteto Eugène Demangeat em 1860.

Demangeat foi um ator chave no boom de construção e demolição do século XIX em Paris, orquestrado por Georges Eugène Haussmann, conhecido como Barão Haussmann, sob a égide de Napoleão III.

O objetivo era ventilar, embelezar e unificar a cidade, grande parte da qual permanecia, até então, um labirinto medieval de ruas sinuosas escuras e insalubres.

No seu lugar há mais de 150 anos, o anjo da rue de Turbigo continua a irradiar o seu encanto excêntrico.
