The discovery of a new character in my mind and his realisation in earthenware clay, February 2022 Thoughts documented as in February 2022 'I only know a bit about him and I’m looking forward to exploring what he leads me towards for his clothing design and the colours he might want etc. The ruff was close to impossible to make so of course shortly I’m going to make another as I don’t like things feeling impossible. So far this one is sitting drying out in the open kiln, the only place it feels safe. The jesters type collar shown in previous photos was broken by my husband, it was remade and then broken by my 3 year old, was remade and broken by me so I sat with my puppet for a while and asked him if he REALLY wanted that particular collar as I was getting tired of remaking it… he did so I then remade it again and put in the kiln. So far it is still in one piece. Wow the drama. I was sort of thinking the drama would start after my puppet was glaze fired but it’s started early. Last night I attached his arm in and was able to animate him by moving his arm up and down… then the collar got broken and this morning after the second collar was broken I thought better of trying to animate him again in his bone dry state to film as he is so fragile and I’m afraid of more breaks. The little film will have to wait until he is fired. I love how his shadow is a big part of the drama on the white pottery wall…makes me think of shadow puppets and how I can involve this element in my work.'
