The weather today: exquisite. If you missed it, you'll get another shot at lacing up and heading out tomorrow. Should be a carbon copy of today (And yes, I realize that's an antiquated term). Note to townies: Don't let the Idler Lane construction lull you into a false sense of security if you run the industrial park. You'll still encounter traffic on the water tower hill. That said, traffic on the open segment of Idler is lighter than usual. Nice, that. That's your mid-week run report. Be safe out there! #runreport #rurallife #ruralroute #running #runner #runnersofinstagram #runnersworld #runners #brooksrunning #brooksghost10 #brooksghost #runnerd #powerlines #easysix #takeitinstride (at Greenville, Illinois)

It felt so good to go a short way today My knee felt fine while running however it feels a little tender post-run so I'll have to keep an eye on it. It's looking good though (I'm not saying its better yet because last time I did and it wasn't). Tomorrow will be spent resting and doing some small knee strengthening exercises reccomended my a physio friend of mine. I've got to be positive.

LEGENDARY STATUS — PHIL KNIGHT'S MEMOIR "SHOE DOG"
Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike is a book about the unrelenting pursuit of the entrepreneurial legend and Nike founder, Phil Knight. It offers insight, inspires, educates and is a beautifully written and narrated work that I've been listening to while running. It's an arresting story that reveals Knight's relationship with Japanese philosophy and culture, business, sport, detrmination and outlines his successes and failures along an incredible timeline of the early days in his 20's backpacking around the world, to leading Nike into becoming a $30 billion dollar a year behemoth.
For the entrepreneur
From RunReporter: In Knight’s own words, his business and management style is slightly crazy. From not answering letters to dealing with the Japanese, Knight opens up to the real way he dealt with staff and suppliers in the early days.
These memoirs also open up to his background, his high standard upbringing, his failures, but also the lessons learnt which were needed to found and run one of this biggest companies on earth. Phil Knight plants his knowledge and business wisdom throughout the memoirs, leaving small bits of advice to any young entrepreneur such as his ‘fail fast’ approach.
For the runner
Not only is this a book for those interested in all things business and economics based, but also anyone interested in success stories and sport. As I previously said, Phil Knight was a runner and this love certainty comes across, building the company around his running compatriots, including the legendary Bill Bowerman.
Bowerman was an elite track and field coach at Oregon University – he coached 16 sub 4 minute milers – and co-founder of Nike Inc., writing his own books on running whilst contributing to the early design of the shoes.
Knight details the many risks and daunting setbacks that stood between him and his dream - along with his early triumphs. Above all, he recalls the formative relationships with his first partners and employees, a ragtag group of misfits and seekers who became a tight-knit band of brothers. Together, harnessing the transcendent power of a shared mission and a deep belief in the spirit of sport, they built a brand that changed everything.

Run Report: Humid but not as hot on the blacktop today, with intermittent cloud cover and a steady breeze from the south. Beware tetchy traffic from Highway 127 into the city limits. Motorists on Hospital Hill were pointedly discourteous this afternoon, refusing to yield an inch of pavement. A red pickup came within a handspan of clipping me, then had a second go with the metal rod protruding at an angle from the bed. I ducked. It missed. Unfortunately for the driver, I happened to be packing the head of a Gorgon, which I loosened from my carryall. Poof. Stone. Let this be a warning to Ye. And that's your rural route run report for Friday, July 28, 2017. Wonder if he wears Brooks Ghost 10s? 👻 🏃Some spooky boo on the run route. The seasonal decorations say Halloween, but the heat and humidity feel more like the 4th of July than the 3rd of October. If you're night running to dodge the heat, beware walnuts on the walk and vines in your face on 4th Street. Lots of traffic, pedestrian and auto, tonight as well. Proceed with caution--and with water. The air was dead early on, but a nice breeze and milder temps were moving in around 9:30p. That's your run report for Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Now lace up, move out, and be careful out there. #runreport #running #runningmotivation #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #nightlights #spookyboo #ghost #thisishalloween #boo #brooksrunning #brooksghost10 #runroute #nightrun #nightrunning #holdthatghost #highspirits #whistlingpastthegraveyard #localhaunts #electricbootoyou #casperthefriendlyghost #shineon #youglow #scoobydoowhereareyou (at Greenville, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/BofwqR3n8Nd/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1vvpmlnx0676s

Autumn is upon us. It was a lovely evening to get out, stretch your legs, and run the week away as mild temperatures, low humidity and soft winds made the miles pass quickly. 🍁This time of year, you'd do well to wear your brights and lights on late afternoon runs. I switched from sunglasses to my headlamp (for visibility) in the space of an hour. 🍂 Traffic was heavy on Highway 127. Watch your footing for the first couple miles north of 140. The shoulders are dodgy. Oddly enough, the asphalt is in better condition further north. The shoulders are broad and flat, so this route is easier on the knees than most county roads. That said, you've got to be vigilant for fast moving traffic crowding the sidelines. Proceed with caution. 🌽 Farmers are bringing in the harvest, so be prepared to run through soybean and corn dust on the rural routes and watch for vehicles on field access roads. That's your run report for the final weekend of September 2018. ☀️Sunday promises to be just as beautiful--so no excuses. Lace up, head out, and be safe out there! #runreport #ruralroute #ruralrouterunner #rural #runner #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #sunset #powerlines #brooksrunning #skylight #sunrays #11mile #11milerun (at Greenville, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoVjmXOHtFO/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ibhiav8m2xe3

Running into the sun, but I'm running behind... Heat and humidity were formidable this evening, but the sunset was lovely. This view was waiting as I topped the water tower hill, and it made the climb worthwhile. As we've noted on other occasions, you need to be mindful of traffic here--drivers won't be expecting you. If you cross the Highway 40 overpass, look for red-tailed hawks perched on the utility poles. There were two this evening. And of course, pack plenty of water. I drained both tanks on this evening's 8-miler, and I was moving slow. As the shot suggests, with the equinox approaching, after-work runners are racing against the sun. Wear your lights and brights. You may need them. This has been your midweek run report. Now lace up, head out, and be careful out there! #runner #runningmotivation #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #sunset #overthehill #8mile #rural #rurallife #ruralroute #ruralrouterunner #runreport (at Greenville, Illinois) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn72XncH3yQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=15p6n9bsuj913

Run time? Wasn't worth a hill o' beans. But traffic was light and I was grateful for the opportunity to stretch my legs under a summer sky. If you run the industrial park, you'll have corn and soybeans leaning toward autumn to keep you company. But proceed with caution. Even with Idler blocked, the bank branch gets traffic. Be wary on the hills. // As you're heading out this week, pack water. You'll want it. I emptied two belt tanks and a 20 oz bottle this afternoon. Temps look to top out about 90F, so try to dodge the sun with a shaded route, or morning and evening runs. As a last recourse, there's always Netflix and a treadmill, yes? This has been your weekend run report. Whatever your route, do your best to lace up, head out, and run smart. Left step, left step, left step, right, up the hill and past the light... The color in this reminds me a bit of Bears in the Night. Loved that book. Days are getting shorter, and we're being treated to some fine weather in the Midwest (apologies to my friends on the coast). If you're not a runner, step out for a walk. The evenings are too good to miss, and it's a great way to rinse the day from your head. If you run, rejoice. We're weeks away from some of the best out and about temps of the year. Now for your run report: The air was still but pleasant and the streets quiet in town tonight. South Idler is still under construction, so beware the barricades. The new cement may look crispy fresh and tantalisingly textured, but there's snow fence stretched between the horses and, yes, it's a construction zone, so there's all manner of whatnot could be in your path. Better to detour the bottom of the hill--particularly when the light is low. And that's your Friday run report. Tonight's shot comes to you from the south side of town. Overcast evenings offer a respite from the heat--but not the humidity. Fill your tanks before you pull on those shoes. A relatively warm (if grey) Easter Sunday in downstate Michigan. If you're in the Detroit area and you'd like to cover miles with a rural route vibe, head to Utica. I followed the trail northwest into River Bends Park. The scenery is varied, the hills keep you guessing as to what's around the bend, and you're never far from the Clinton River. It's lovely. That said, this isn't a rainy day run--it's clear the river rises and you don't want to be caught in the floodplain at high water. Runners beware: In the summer months, you'll encounter a lot of bike traffic. Lace up and hit the trail now to beat the crowds. And as always--be careful out there! #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #michigan #utica #riverbendspark #clintonriverheritagepark #clintonrivertrail #runreport #ruralroute (at Clinton River Heritage Park)

Night lights on the evening run. Grateful for the 50-degree temps and lengthening days! Winds are light, air is cool, and streets are quiet. Misty morning view from Water Street. Temps were perfect for a short morning route around town, and the fog and light rain made the reds and yellows of our maple trees burn a bit brighter, it seemed. Town was quiet, the streets were still, and the real rain held off until I entered the home stretch. If you usually avoid sidewalk and street running (and there are reasons you should) but want to give it a go, Saturday a.m. is a good place to start. Be distrustful of traffic, wear an LED, and watch your footing. That's your run report for Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017. Now lace up and head out--and be careful out there! #running #runreport #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #runningintherain #5miles (at Greenville, Illinois)
