Y'all this is a callout post for Dr. Leonard Church aka the Director. Let me tell you something, if you believe that torturing AIs should be allowed, block me right now.

The Alpha AI is a victim of abuse and I will NOT let this stand. He needs to be reunited with the other fragments immediately and Dr. Church should be in JAIL for his crimes forever.

The Directors other crimes cannot be ignored either. Who else among you have lost family members to the simulation troops. Our brothers and sisters joined the military to fight aliens and instead got injured or died in this inhumane program.

I know some of you think that I'm a paid account by Charon Industries but I'll have you know that is a LIE being spread by my haters. Get a life and maybe think about why you think that.

the deeper into halo lore I get the more I realize just how fucking insane project freelancer and charon industries are as organizations. charon just had a whole alien chilling in a showroom—an alien ONI was desperate to get their hands on because of the information they held that an entire spinoff game centers around finding and securing one (halo 3: odst)—and project freelancer stole this alien and had it in their possession 4 years BEFORE that game took place, and the director seemingly didn’t tell the UNSC about it because he was too busy using it for his fucking ai torture science project!! like WHAT????

Sherry - Usually has her hair slicked back or braided due to wearing her helmet most of the time, but her natural hair is 3C and styled like I have here !! Necklace is a gift from her mother :-), beauty marks, very clear skin. Natural born leader, has been since the beginning

Darryl - Has glasses but won’t wear them, long hair usually back in a bun or ponytail to get it out of the way for work reasons. Scruffy facial hair, thick eyebrows, dark eyebags from lack of sleep. He’s a cardigan guy I feel it in my bones. Very observant and on high alert most of the time, which is pretty great for the team actually

Terrill - Slightly more dishevelled look than the other two, shorter and less curly hair than the other two. Overall just kinda more scraggly looking because he could not give a gaf about his appearance. Very laid back most of the time, but very helpful!

I don’t really have much else to say about them because I’m still developing their personalities in my books, but!!! Enjoy nonetheless :-)

well after watching rvb: restoration I have the exact same feelings about it I did when it was first announced: I'm completely okay with seasons 16-18 being tossed but I still feel that s15 for all its flaws had much, much superior post-Chorus characterization.

Skills and abilities, weapons/special gear, designs with or without armor. Art, 3D models, dress-up game/icon makers, aesthetic/moodboards, playlists, text/writing all good examples

2- Red Team/Blue Team; Would they be with the Reds or the Blues we know, Flag Zealots, Temple's group of Blues and Reds, with a totally different set of Red/Blue teams, or "in the middle" like Doc (you can treat the scenario as an AU for your OC; what if they were in Blood Gulch from the beginning? What if it wasn’t your “real OC” with Temple’s group, but their alternate/look-alike?)

3- Project Freelancer and Charon Industries; for any OCs who are Freelancers, or OCs on Charon’s side. Maybe the OC isn’t part of the Freelancer program or directly involved with the Insurrectionists, but still interacts with them, such as scientists and pilots (if your OC isn’t officially part of it all, you can also use this suggestion as another AU or “what-if”)

RVB OC WEEK: DAY 3 FREELANCER/CHARON

I'm sure he won't get caught up in any shenanigans or mischief or anything like that. Surely.

Little bastard has a lot of knives. The claws on his hand guard might be overkill, considering how many gosh dang knives he has. But sometimes you have a brand to uphold, even if you change your name.

Bonus: I pieced together his armor concept in the Halo MCC version of Halo3 to match the rest of the Freelancers! Below the cut bc the image is. Very long.

Ghillie Wyoming

Had this idea a bit ago, might do more with it in an actual scene sometime, maybe add Florida as the flanker, but yeah. Made two versions, one with the armor lights off and one with them on.

Since Wyoming is the sniper of Project Freelancer's top squad, figured it would be fun to give him a ghillie suit (ghillie suit gotten from Strider AU's ODST pack, I believe they got it from Casper from Battlefield 2042 but not sure).

If curious what a flanker is, basically in real life snipers usually operate in 2-3 man teams, with there being the spotter to spot targets and give other relevant information to the shooter, and then the shooter is just focused on firing the weapon according to the spotter's instructions. In a pinch, both are usually trained to use the rifle, so the spotter can be a backup shooter if something goes wrong. And then sometimes there's a flanker that's there to watch their backs and protect them while they're hidden away and focused on the target, with a more normal range weapon usually (info from Wikipedia, take as you will). In RvB Season 10, when Wyoming and Florida were observing Charon's Longshore Shipyards base, it seemed Wyoming was acting as spotter and shooter and then Florida was also there so presumably he coulda been the flanker.

Not sure if this really counts since it's not about characters as it is a result of two characters.

The 2 guys in the reconstruction trailer are accredited as "Recovery Six" and "Recovery Nine" respectively, which has lead me to believe that the Recovery Program wasn't only instated after freelancer fell to the wayside but was an active part of the Project from the beginning (Likely also meaning that Wash wasn't the first guy to be called "Recovery One" oOoOoOo)

Additionally here's some assorted HC's about various Charon-adjacent characters

I think the only reason the Insurrectionist leader, (Faux CT), continued working with Charon was because Freelancer killed or imprisoned all the other people in the base. I fully believe that had more of them survived/escaped He would've just gone of with them to try and lay low. Since his only group of allies other than Charon were KIA or MIA he didn't feel he had much of a choice.

I think Hargrove doesn't give a rats ass about the injustices of Freelancer, I think he's still just a politician and a businessman who wants to sway public favor. Though I'm not sure how much that is "Headcanon" and not just "Canon".

I think most of the insurrectionists saw through Charon's demeanor of funding beside CT, Connie, and Sharkface, but they all thought they would "trick Charon and turn this war around".

Scully and Murphy from S9E2 are also twins, just like North and South.

Sherry, Daryl, and Teryll aren't insurrectionists but due to the similar armor and constantly working with them on behalf of Charon everyone always assumes they are, which they've used on occasion to steal a few items off the top from the insurrectionists.

Coffee Guy is Jenkins; Caboose just woke him up from his slumber.

Also Jenkins has really bad eyesight and can't see in the dark too well and that's why he tried to get a better shift, so he could actually fucking see.

I think none of the space pirates from S13 are employed by Charon, they're all employed by Felix and Locus who are "Independant contractors and outside of our supervision", the only one who was directly hired by Charon was Price because they thought directly putting him on their payroll would make him more loyal.

I think the actual cause the Insurrectionists were fighting for was peace with the covenant. They were all, for the most part, Anti-war and opposed UNSC expansion of the war effort and Freelancer's unethical "The ends justify the means" mentality

Muscle Guy and a few others though weren't fighting for the cause and just joined knowing Charon was footing the bill on their payment.

you know a neat little bit of subtle world building I've always liked in the recollection trilogy + freelancer saga (that gets forgotten about in later seasons) is how the bgc + the freelancers (sans ct and lina) were the only characters to wear mark VI (or in caboose's case mark V) helmets. all other freelancer personnel and the UNSC in those seasons either wore ODST armor/helmets or marine armor, and idk I just think it was a neat little detail that showcases some level of consistency with the greater halo canon.

Part Three of my late submissions of RvB OC week! Day 3: Project Freelancer and Charon Industries

I chose this day to introduce the rest of the Canadian Division of PFL, whose origins I discussed in my first post.

Agent New Brunswick (he/them), also known as Brunie and Newb, are a DID system consisting of Matt and Jean-Luc Harper, respectively. Matt, the protector alter, is a CQC specialist, and his weapons of choice are a shotgun and combat knives. Jean-Luc, the host, rarely fronts in combat, but typically takes on a stealth role when he does, preferring to use pistols. Their armour is installed with a strength enhancement module. During their downtime, Jean-Luc enjoys baking and cooking, which he finds relaxing, while Matt likes to let off steam by lifting weights and going on runs through the ship.

Agent Prince Edward Island (he/him), also known as Prince, is Mark Rowe, an assault specialist with OCD. His compulsions stem off the number three, so he exclusively uses a battle rifle, which fires in three-round bursts, and bases his combat rhythm off timing in threes. His armour is installed with an EMP module. In his off-hours, Mark can be found making friendship bracelets for the team, convincing everyone with long hair to let him braid it, and knitting.

Quote: "I kinda think I was assigned this name because they clocked me. Not sure whether to be mad or flattered by the comparison."

Agent Newfoundland (he/him), aka Newf, is Angus Moore, a stealth specialist with GAD. This anxiety generally means he's extremely on guard, keeping hyperaware of all the variables and moving parts in a situation going on around him until he sees the perfect time to strike- moving in hard and fast with his pistols and combat knives. His armour is installed with a speed enhancement unit. During down-time, Angus plays the violin, which he credits for a lot of his manual dexterity, and keeps fish- a meticulous job full of checking water chemistry and tank cleanliness, but worth it to be able to watch them swim around.

Quote: "My social anxiety does not extend to situations where my fish are involved. I'll start a tilly gladly if you mess with them. Or rant for an hour if you ask."

Agent Quebec (he/him) is Eli Levesque, one of two leadership specialists in CanDiv. Eli's autism means that he communicates very clearly and directly- which ensures the team operates with very little room for misunderstanding. He prefers to lead from the front, where he can "feel" the situation, so favours an assault rifle and SMG, and his armour is installed with a healing unit. In between missions, Eli takes every chance he can to socially depressurize- he can usually be found in an observation room watching the stars, or alone in his quarters painting. Even though he doesn't bother to mask as much with the team, he can never seem to let it go entirely unless he's by himself, and he definitely needs time somewhere quite to recover from an overstimulating career.

Agent Ontario (she/her), or "auntie", is Laura Foster, the second of the two leadership specialists in CanDiv. Laura has schizophrenia, which manifests as blunted affect and auditory hallucinations of voices "reminding" her about things happening around her and help her to keep everything straight on the battlefield, so she gives very even-keeled and organized orders. She prefers to lead from above, where she can obtain better tactical information, so she wields a battle rifle and sniper rifle, and her armour is installed with a bubble shield module. During days off, she enjoys drawing, where she usually sketches surrealist art pieces reflecting her emotions, and baking with other members of the team (partially an excuse to watch food being made, which she finds relaxing).

Quote: "My ODST squad used to think it was incredible that I never got scared on drops. I didn't have the heart to tell them it was just blunted affect and I was terrified."

Agent Nunavut (she/them) is Amaudla Kalluk, an autistic recon specialist. They were raised a hunter, with a very formulaic understanding of both human and animal behaviour that they apply to enemies they observe on missions. Being frequently nonverbal, Amaudla often communicates through Inuit Sign Language and facial expression- though on missions, she instead will use an instant messaging system connected to her neural interface. She favours a DMR and shotgun combo, and her armour is installed with an adaptive camouflage system. On her off-time, she enjoys playing the flute and making jewellery, as well as doing photography when she can- though living in a space where most operations are classified makes that difficult.

Agent Manitoba (she/her), aka Toba, is Rumaisa Badr, an infiltration specialist with OCD. Though they make her miserable in a lot of ways, her compulsions mean she has become extremely procedural and meticulous when she's doing infiltration work, with a lot of hyperattention to detail, which also means she's extremely effective. She uses SMGs and pistols, and her armour is installed with an adaptive camouflage system. In her free time, Rumaisa sews, bakes, and builds small robotics projects- usually things that allow her to train her fine motor control and precision. She also has a bad habit of compulsively doing maintenance on everyone's equipment.

Agent Northwest Territories (they/them), aka Terri, is Max Davis, an assault specialist with bipolar I disorder. Their manic and hypomanic states make them extremely confident and effective on the battlefield, a bit of a force of nature- though that comes at the cost of recklessness and chaos, as well as their performance suffering during depressive spells. They favour SMGs and a shotgun, and their armour is installed with a speed enhancement unit. Max has many, many hobbies- they play electric guitar, they paint, they play video games, they exercise... and they bake and cook, if with a teammate- they have binge eating disorder and don't trust themself around food otherwise, but they're an incredible chef.

Quote: "Someone has to keep things interesting around here. That's why you need my chaotic ass."

Agent Saskatchewan (he/him), aka Sask, is Keasik Calihoo, an assault specialist with ADHD-HT. His hyperactivity means he's become very good at processing a lot of things at once, and his impulsiveness means he adapts quickly to changing circumstances and will charge into the thick of a fight without hesitation. Keasik favours a classic assault rifle and magnum combo, and his armour is equipped with a healing unit. In his downtime, he likes to bead, play video games, and sometimes play pranks on his fellow agents- though he has to be careful lest it spiral into a vicious war.

Quote: "I'm pretty sure ass-kicking and chocolate milk need to be added to the list of sacred medicines."

Agent British Columbia (he/him), aka B.C. or Beece, is Shaun Park, a CQC specialist with ASPD. Without the ability to feel empathy for his enemies, and a tendency towards reckless lack of self-preservation, he doesn't hesitate in combat. He prefers leaning into intimidation tactics to scare his enemies shitless and give himself a leg up tactically, so employs the use of flamethrowers and combat knives when feasible, as well as his standard pistol sidearm, and also makes use of his armour's enhanced strength module. In his downtime, Shaun is a bit of a recluse, having social anxiety, but he can usually be lured out to play chess, to work out with Brunie or Terri, or to join in on a cooking session.

Quote: "I don't even like fire that much. But when stereotypes give you a convenient intimidation factor like this, you can't really pass it up."

Agent Yukon (he/them), aka Yuke, is Luke Marquez, an autistic infiltration specialist. Luke has an encyclopedic knowledge of locks, computers, and security alarm systems- they're his special interest, and he can get himself into just about anywhere. The problem comes when they're faced with the combat part of the job- Luke has such severe anxiety surrounding violence after accidentally killing someone in basic training that they essentially become nonfunctional in combat situations. Their armour is fitted with active camouflage, so in a combat scenario they generally just hide and continue working on infiltration or sabotaging enemy systems. In his downtime, he generally knits, crochets, and studies computer systems and lockpicking. They're also frequently recruited to pranks-based shenanigans whenever Sask starts something again.

I haven't gotten around to writing anything with these guys yet, so they're still not the most fleshed out- but the intention is for their dynamic to be close-knit and accepting, trying to work with each others' neuroses and challenges, but also being dysfunctional and messy sometimes as is unavoidable in life. Sometimes Terri, Beece, and Sask encourage the worst parts of each others' impulsive and reckless habits. Sometimes Eli and Laura's blunt leadership style rubs people the wrong way. Sometimes the more chaotic members of the team clash with the more anxious ones, generating stress and conflict for everyone. Sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts, people are going to have bad mental health days that make it difficult, even impossible for them to work. They're an imperfect, messed up little family that are allowing themselves to be used because have nowhere else to go- or at least believe they don't. And when they finally realize the full extent of the exploitation they're about to be subjected to... well, they bite back hard and rip Project Freelancer a new one.

We hear about the Freelancers' "uprising" in canon, trying to free the Alpha and such, but we're only ever really shown Tex and York's one break-in. Personally, I choose to say there's more to it than that, that we never see- and CanDiv is part of the fun.

I didn't have time all day, but I thought of something funny for the Project Freelancer/Charon Industries prompt...

My two main RVB OCs, Poppy and Junonia, both have complicated pasts that may connect them to the others more than they realize at first. So-

(I know I haven't shared a LOT about either of them, so this can just be whatever answer you think is funniest, or what you think the vibes are)

If I got to write the final season of RvB I think I'd really lean into the theme of letting go. That's always what the story was about, at least post after season 5, but that was predominantly about letting go of people. For this hypothetical ending, I'd say it's letting go of Duty.

Think about it, at the end of every season so far, even casual endings, the Reds and Blues still wear their armor. Yeah, it's because it's all filmed in Halo and nobody wants a face reveal, but on a watsonian level they keep returning to "bases." Never "homes." Sarge always wanted to die in battle. Carolina, even when presumed dead, enlisted as a foot soldier. Washington stuck with PFL or was in jail. Hell, even those less invested like Grif stuck with it in spite of his complaints. Why? Why do they keep going back? Or in other words, "why are they here?"

In some way, they can't let go of this duty. They can't return to civilian life. Even when told they were simulation troopers in a fake war the entire time they refuse to give up. So, just like I think they learned to let go of Allison, Tex, Church, the Freelancers, and others, they also need to let go of this life.

I would have tied the villain in with this inability. Maybe make them the UNSC. The show had been progressively building them up as such. First PFL, the Charon, the Blues and Reds. They all tie back to the UNSC.

In Halo Lore, the Spartans were first used to quell insurgents. Not Aliens. Other humans. PFL was built to fight the covenant, but they were turned on insurgents. I think a UNSC after the Human Covenant War, now no longer faced with extinction, begins to crack. That bottomless pit of defense spending? Gone. No longer can they throw money at rounding up boot camp flunkies and dumping them in a box canyon in the middle of nowhere. Or manipulating genocidal civil wars. And they can't let it go.

That's what I would have done, at least.
