So today Ryan at RK Outpost is finally giving us his input on the Forbes article, Doomcock is back with more gossip, our moment of the day is a rather lengthy Q & A with Gina and Soderbergh about Haywire, the gallery is very moving, and for our fan fic writers, a little something everyone can relate to. Also, there’s a brand new section I would love to hear everyone’s input on!

Now, onto your daily dose of Conviction...

Ryan with RK Outpost takes a look at the Forbes article, and points out, among other things, that this is proof that things are bad at Disney, now that MSM is starting to notice and point things out. He also has a moment when he clicks on the latest Star Wars video...and realizes that Gina’s supporters have changed their chant. And I agreed, might not be what you’re expecting to see, but it’s actually better. 

Doomcock is back with another look at how Disney’s doing in the wake of cutting Gina free. As one commenter put it, Darth Kennedy the Hypocritical is used to bullying her way around Hollyweird, as the actors are known for backing down because they’re too afraid of being blacklisted. She expected a fighter to be the same way, and is finding out the hard way that the worst thing you can do to someone like Gina, is back them into a corner.

Writing was never a choice, it was an irresistible compulsion. 

The hardest part is often sitting down to actually write. 

Writing is zipping along through six pages in less than an hour, and then getting stuck for weeks on a single transition sentence. 

Characters often start out as your own, but quickly tell you that isn’t how the story goes.

Sometimes your characters do the exact opposite of what you want, and you have no idea how to make them behave.

Being a good writer is 3% writing, 97% not getting distracted by the internet.

Kids Are Annoying in Any Galaxy

So yesterday I posted this gorgeous piece, from Mishi-Yana. I didn’t provide anything other than the name that appears on the artwork, because when I used the @ symbol in hopes it was their tumblr name, nothing came up. Today, I got contacted by the artist with their tumblr name, so I am rerunning the piece today with the tumblr’s name attached so that they can recieve proper credit. This one will clock in as the longest moment I’ve shared so far at just over half an hour long. 

So today’s eyecandy (if the video wasn’t enough) is very moving shall we say...

So, I’ve been kinda toying around with adding some additional categories/sections. As well as some additional content to certain existing sections. I would love to know what people think....as it’ll  be a way to judge whether or not I should focus on adding them to the newsletter. I’m also gonna be using this particular section on the occasion, when I have changes in store for the newsletter.

Social Media | I know not everyone follows all of Gina’s accounts, it would be a way to see a lot of her updates all in one spot.

Conviction Crew | This would be a weekly thing, like I’m already doing with the CaraDin writers, but would spotlight a Gina fan, instead of a writer.

Bi-Weekly Writing Challenges | Just something to keep everyone’s creative mojo going.

I am also looking into adding content to a subcategory for specific days of the week....like featuring writer resources on Monday’s for example.

Lucy’s mum is back? Iiiiiiiinteresting... From the eppy stills: I see a lot of Tim... with Kojo, and Angela too... I'm guessing this is where she asks him to be her "man of honour"? Lucy and Jackson on the filed without supervision together is gonna be fun! That they're integrating Angela's boss who I like a lot is a nice added perk. I've been hoping we see more of him. ALSO! Ben us back? YAY! It's been too long! AND Henry is around too? I hope all three Ben/Henry/John get to interact! Also looks like Nyla's hitting picking things up with "hot dad" again... Good for her... I mean secretly I am rooting for her and Donovan to patch things up (because I always root for whoever Enver plays), but for now: get it girl!

When Professor Fiona Ryan’s car window is smashed following a series of mysterious notes, Officer Nolan volunteers to guard her house overnight. Here for jealous Lucy! Also can we please not throw Nolan and Prof. Ryan into a romantic situation? I've been praying she hasn't been introduced as this season's LI for him, and how things have been going so far between them I've been hopeful she wouldn't be. But this plot above worries me... The community outreach center is back though so YAY! I was hoping this would become a staple for the show since it got introduced and so far so good! Henry is back for second week in a row and I see and Abigail is with him this time... Hhhmmm... with Wesley's mum also around, is the show gonna be tackling two wedding planning plots and mixing them a bit? I hope so. That might be fun... especially if it puts Tim and Abigail in scenes together again.

Movie Review: Tarantino Films I - Kill Bill (2003)

I guess I’ll start off the first movie review the right way: by doing a Tarantino film. I’m not doing them in chronological order, apparently, so I’m doing it the other way, that everyone seems alright with - the Star Wars order. 4-6, then 1-3. 7 and then maybe I’ll get down to the 8th one by the time Episode 8 comes around. I’m getting off topic, lets move on.

It’s Kill Bill, man. If you’ve not seen this movie and you’re a fan of movies, you need to see it, plain and simple. The non-linear storyline, amazing action, the best dialogue on the market and the straight up Tarantino flair that we’ve known to expect from him and love dearly. A lot of people consider this one the best movie he’s ever done behind Pulp Fiction (or Reservoir Dogs, if you’re one of those people). Obviously I say this with Vol. 2 in mind as well. Its a basic revenge plot with assassins, the Yakuza, Samurai swords and David Caradine.

The Basic Facts

Starring Uma Thurman, Vivica A. Fox, Lucy Liu, David Carradine and Michael Madsen, this movie was released in 2003 by Miramax films and, along with Volume 2, was the last of Tarantino’s films to be distributed by Miramax films before moving to the Weinstein company starting with Inglourious Basterds.

Also starring Uma Thurman’s feet. Seriously. They have a bigger part than half of the characters.

Considered an homage to oldschool “grindhouse” films that were mostly martial arts movies, blaxploitation films and spaghetti westerns.

The Plot. I’m gonna be kind of basic about this section just to get the general idea to keep this review moving along.

The movie starts off basic but strong for a revenge movie, half dead bride on the floor saying some unseen man is the father of her kid before getting shot in the head. Gets the plot moving and the storyline set. Eventually we see her lying in a coma in a random hospital only to be randomly awoken.

Through a boat load of intense action sequences and strong one-liners, and back forths that are essentially Tarantino trademark, we end up with her attempting to get revenge on one of her past cohorts from an assassination group she used to be apart of who wound up being the group of people who shot apart her wedding. Eventually getting revenge, she moves on.

Through non-linear sequencing, made popular very early on by Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, we wind up with the main movement of the movie: To kill O’ren Ishii, another one of the big assassins from the group, eventually succeeding.

The Visuals

The anime sequence for the backstory of O’ren Ishii, the soundtrack overlapping certain intense scenes, the use of the live band while entering the bride into the Yakuza hideout, the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly style facial framings, everything is fantastic about the imagery and cinematography in Kill Bill. Having been influenced by the same movies that Tarantino was influenced by at a young age, I found a lot of the framework throwback worthy, referencing the Good the Bad and the Ugly again, yet refreshing in a modern sense like in the scene where the Bride confronts O’ren and they have a back and forth.

The scenery is everywhere just like the storyline which is fitting. One second you’re in a chapel in texas, the next, metro Japan. The way the storyline can incorporate such intricate usage of vast, yet different settings for scenes is brilliant in the sense that you’re not JUST all over the place, every setting literally has a staunch storyline reasoning behind being there.

All the good stuff

As I’ve already strongly established by now, most every angle of the movie is a positive to the point where I’m not sure where I can find any negatives. It’s remained one of my favorite movies and has received such massive replay in my family that I’ve watched it multiple times just to try and find SOMETHING that’s a strong negative and I really haven’t. It’s kind of left me scratching my head over the years because it’s hard to come by these movies. The only negatives I can really find are the fact that the movie kind of lies within its own kind of environment and doesn’t have much ability to break out. If someone is a massive drama fan, they may or may not like this movie. If they’re an action fan, they’ll love it, if they’re a super movie buff, they may or may not. It’s not as strongly universal as, lets say, Saving Private Ryan or Rocky. With that being said, it does the homages nicely an humbly. It doesn’t take itself for granted and you can’t be hard to a movie that’s like that.  

Final Verdict?

First Blush (NSFW) - Caradine can't wait to get his hands on you

Ryan’s a spiteful fuck. He has no problem admitting that. If someone hurts his wife they’re going to pay for it, it’s a simple fact. When he’d seen the bruise on your face last night, he’d put it to one side. The same with the ones that line your ribs. He hadn’t wanted to ruin your homecoming. However he’s been around the block enough times to know that someone has hurt you. He hasn’t been able to stop thinking about it this morning, he’d caught a glimpse of the true extent of it in the shower and it’s been etched into his mind ever since.

You haven’t told him what happened, he can tell you’re still trying to process sit yourself. He knows it’ll manifest in the days to come but he’s desperate to know now because if he does it means he’ll know how best to help you.

He goes to the source, Sergeant Assam Gibbons.  The two of you have worked together for a long time, there’s no one else he’d trust to have your back.

“Stanford tried to assault her.” Gibbons tells him as they walk down the corridor to the interrogation room. “It’s why we had to terminate the op early.”

The thought of another man trying to force himself on you, it makes him want to break something. He thinks of what you said last night about getting out of  undercover work, being a normal detective, it makes a lot more sense to him now.

“Trust me.” Gibbons says as he puts his hand on the door handle leading to the observation room. “He came off worse.”

Gibbons isn’t kidding. Stanford’s sitting in interrogation room with his left arm in a sling and a broken nose. He can tell from all the shifting and wincing he is doing that at least two of his ribs are broken.

“I wanted to show you what she did to him.” Gibbons tells him crossing his arms over his chest. “To remind you that she can handle herself in the field.”

“Assam.” Ryan says carefully. “I know how tough my wife is. She’s the one who wants to stop, I’m the one supporting that choice.”

“I think that would be a really bad decision.” Gibbons says quietly. “The work she does is excellent, I don’t know what we’ll do without her.”

Ryan’s expression hardens as he looks at the other man in the reflection of the window.

“Then I guess you’ll just have to figure it out.”
