yes yes yes
ok so, one of the pics looks like it was taken during a party after they won hockey east, so I'm thinking that maybe they had a party.
isla obvi there with ryan and they have a few drinks and end up a little tipsy. ryan is sitting on a random couch and isla is straddling him and they are in a heated make out session. they don't give two fucks about who is around. ryan just needs to kiss his girl.
he gets slightly majorly possessive while kissing her.
~
Isla is sitting in ryan's lap kissing him when ry pulls away and starts trailing kisses from her lips to her jaw. he gets to her ear and presses a soft kiss right in front of it before whispering in her ear, "my girl. mine."
isla lets out a quiet whine into ryan's neck, "yours ry."
he smirks and kisses her again. he has a hand tightly gripping her ass and then his other hand is gently holding her neck from the side to keep her where he wants her.
it's one of the many, many times ryan has taken control with isla.

ryan once heard the ending of isla screaming with kennedy and her parents and he felt his heart break for his girlfriend.
he knew they had a rocky relationship but he didn’t know that it was bad enough for a screaming match after the gold medal game in sweden.
his heart broke for isla and he made sure to everything he could to help her forget about it.

Season Two of Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous Is Now Official! Coming 2021
Today, ahead of the New York Comic Con Camp Cretaceous panel, the Jurassic World official YouTube account has released a brand-new forty-five second teaser trailer for the second season of the Netflix Animated Show.
The trailer provides a hint at the aftermath of the Jurassic World incident we saw portrayed in both the titular film and the first series of the film – with damage across Isla Nublar now evident as the dinosaurs begin to adapt to life outside of the confines of their paddocks. We can see Sinoceratops making their way through broken fencing, Compsognathus leaping around a muddied and abandoned Gyrosphere, and even the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex on the hunt for the kids.
The new trailer seems to pit the kids against a host of animals not seen in the first season – with the Baryonyx from Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, the Ceratosaurus from Jurassic Park III and the Tyrannosaurus Rex all present to provide a new host of carnivorous creatures for the group to encounter. Interestingly, the shots of the group we have seen so far are without Ben present – suggesting that the reunion we all anticipate may not occur right when the second season picks up.
We are interested to see how this will play out moving forwards. Whilst the main group seem to be fending off dinosaurs together, is it possible that Ben is out there, surviving on his own, similar to Eric Kirby? For now, we will have to wait and see – but the shots from inside of Tyrannosaurus Rex Kingdom get us incredibly excited to explore more of an abandoned Isla Nublar when the second season of Camp Cretaceous drops in early 2021.
What did you think of the first season of the show? And what do you hope will happen in the second season? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to The Jurassic Park Podcast for all the latest news on Camp Cretaceous!
Take a look at the Press Release via Dreamworks below:
"DreamWorks Animation today announced a second season of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous will debut globally on Netflix in 2021. The first season, inspired by the multi-billion-dollar franchise from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment, was set against the same timeline of the 2015 blockbuster film Jurassic World. Season 2 will find the stranded campers struggling to survive on Isla Nublar as the series charges forward beyond the events of the Jurassic World film. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive. Scott Kreamer (Pinky Malinky) and Aaron Hammersley (Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness), serve as showrunners and executive producers. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow and Frank Marshall. The series features the voices of Paul-Mikél Williams (Westworld) as “Darius,” Jenna Ortega (You) as “Brooklynn,” Ryan Potter (Titans) as “Kenji,” Raini Rodriguez (Austin & Ally) as “Sammy,” Sean Giambrone (The Goldbergs) as “Ben” and Kausar Mohammed (Silicon Valley) as “Yaz.”   For an inside look at season one be sure to check out the New York Comic Con x MCM Comic Con's Metaverse Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous panel today at 2:40pm EDT. Join executive producers Colin Trevorrow and Scott Kreamer, consulting producer Zack Stentz, story editor Josie Campbell, and staff writers Sheela Shrinivas, Rick Williams and Bethany Armstrong Johnson as they take you inside the writers’ room of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is now streaming on Netflix."

Silver Female Figurine
Date: 1400–1533
Geography: Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, or Argentina
Culture: Inca
This figurine is hollow and originally was comprised of five pieces of relatively pure silver sheet joined by metallurgical means. Similar to other Inca female figurines in terms of its appearance and design, it depicts a standing woman with hair pulled back and arms drawn to the chest. The figurine was likely deposited as an Inca offering, and may have been dressed in textiles fastened with tupus (pins), whether as part of the ritual practice of capac hucha, or as another form of Inca dedication of/to huacas, sacred beings that included points in the natural landscape (Bray 2009; Cruz 2007). These female anthropomorphic figurines may be fabricated in metal or in the shell Spondylus spp. One such figurine of Spondylus princeps was deposited in an Inca offering in Unit 16, Platform 1 of the Moche site of Huaca de la Luna, where it was wrapped in three separate textiles, an aksu, lliclla, and faja, tied with tupus, two of which are threaded on a cord from which Spondylus plaques hang (Rojas et al. 2012). While made of different materials, the metal and shell female anthropomorphic figurines tend to indicate the same bodily details in similar designs: textured hair pulled back into two tresses tied at their ends in a rectangular bar or tassel, open, almond-shaped eyes, nose, mouth, ears, breasts, hands drawn close to the chest, and vagina. Across this corpus of Inca anthropomorphic figurines in metal, there are usually three height groups (5-7 cm, 13-15 cm, 22-24 cm) (see McEwan 2015, 282, n. 15), and this figurine is in the middle height group. The five sheet components of this figurine are: the hair, the tassel at the end of the hair, the head, torso, and legs all as one piece, and the two individual feet that are now missing. Like 1995.481.5 and other Inca female figurines made of metal, the helmet-like hair section was placed over and soldered to the open top/back of the head during fabrication (see image 4, profile view). In this figure, however, small dents and areas of misshapen metal in the hair—along with a slightly askew positioning of the head (see image 4, profile view)—suggest that the hair was damaged and then re-attached. The tresses of hair are shown as tied by a tassel at the back. Usually the tassel is part of the hair piece on Inca female figurines but in this case the hair and tassel were applied separately (see image 5). These tassels may be referred to as simp’anas in Quechua or k’anañas in Aymara and, according to peoples in the Peruvian altiplano, may be made of alpaca wool (Valencia 1981, 57). There is a seam in a zigzag shape down the back (see image 6), where the two ends of the torso sheet would have been joined. X-radiography reveals porosity in the region of the overlap of these ends (see image 4, front-back view), suggesting the use of a solder. Interestingly, unlike many other Inca anthropomorphic figurines (cf. Lechtman 1996), there does not appear to be a gusset of metal in the genital region, a separate piece that would have bridged the torso and leg pieces. Instead, the crotch area is formed by the intersection of the torso and leg pieces. The seam on each leg is diagonal, extending from the interior of each leg onto the more visible back of the leg at the bottom, and there are deposits of metal—likely a solder—in the area of these seams (see image 7). Comparing metal anthropomorphic and camelid figurines, it is clear that Inca metallurgists thought carefully about feet attachments. On camelid figurine 1998.34 in the Princeton University Art Museum, the feet attachments are partially cylindrical on top so that they extend and fit into the hollow legs (Cockrell and McEwan n.d.). On a female figurine from Isla de la Plata, 4450 in the Field Museum, interior pins have been applied to secure the feet to the legs (Cockrell et al. n.d.). On 1979.206.336, the feet are missing but there are areas of solidified metal (solder?) on the ankles, near where the feet would have been located (see image 8). This suggests that the feet, now missing, were originally fitted over the legs, rather than fitted into them, with the use of solder. The hair has been engraved to show its texture and includes a central line that more or less divides the hair in half (see image 9). Like other figurines, there is a hammered, vertical, relatively narrow depression or concave fold down the back of the hair whose purpose is unknown. The facial details have been created by working both sides of the sheet that now forms the head. The hands were formed by hammering, and the fingers on the hands have been delineated by engraving (see image 10). The figure’s breasts are indicated by slight raised circles, and its vagina has been indicated by hammering a small V-shaped indentation. This tassel is marked with only one row of engraved design unlike figurine 1995.481.5, for instance, which shows two rows. The x-ray (see image 4, profile view) reveals a slight separation (dark contrast) at the side of the neck region, confirming that, at some time, there was probably a failure of the hair and head/neck join, resulting in the separation or disattachment of the two sections. Combined with the post-casting addition of metal in the neck immediately below the proper right jaw, it is likely that damage was extensive in this area. The repair, which probably included the re-soldering of the hair to the head, likely accounts for the slightly askew position of the hair on top of the head noted earlier. Areas of green copper corrosion on the backside of the figurine are from areas of solder employed in fabrication and/or repair and re-heating procedures. This figurine was cleaned by conservators in October 1957 and January 1971. Technical notes: Optical microscopy, X-radiography, and XRF conducted in 2017. i love you | ryan and isla
isla’s pov
ry and i are cuddling before the draft just getting alone time. he says softly, “you know any other year, you, or will, or adam, or leo go first overall.”
“i know. fucking bedard.”
“he’s lucky he’s a good kid and we all like him.”
“yea. do you think i’ll get picked high?”
“i wanna say yea sparky but you and i both know that you don’t know until your name gets called.” ry says softly. i nod against his chest and we just lay like that until my mom bangs on the door, “isla honey time to get dressed.”
i roll my eyes and sit up. ryan sighs, “text me when your ready. i wanna see you before we go.” i nod and he kisses me softly before going to his own room to get dressed.
i got a black dress for this and i really it. it’s very my style for the rare occasion i get dressed up. i decided to wear nike blazers for shoes because of my nagging foot injury, heels is not the right choice.
i text ryan and tell him i’m doing my makeup if he wants to come back. the only good thing that came from being kennedy’s doll growing up is that i know how to do my own makeup and hair.
ryan comes in, in his suit, and he looks so handsome. blue is definitely a good color on him.
he sits with me while i do the finished touches and smiles, he says, “look at you, my pretty girl.”
“your such a flirt leonard.”
“only for you”
i roll my eyes and stand to smooth out my dress. he says, “jesus isla, your beautiful.” i blush and mess with fingers. i’ve never been able to take a compliment from him.
he pulls me in for a hug just holds me for a minutes. i hear the door opens and i hear cutter say, “shit my bad. mom said it’s time to go isla.”
“ok i’m coming cut.”
ryan lifts chin so i’m looking at him and he says, “i know your nervous, but no matter what isla, i’m proud of you.”
“thanks ry. i’m proud of you too”
he smiles and kisses me softly before we go to our respective families and eventually get on the bus to the rink. we sit with gabe and will and the 4 of us are really quiet.
we get to the arena and there’s so many people. when it’s my turn to get off the bus, i take a deep breath and then walk off.
i do all the autographs and everything before going to my seat. i feel like i’m on autopilot right now. i make damn sure cutter is sitting next to me and he holds my hand. he says, “you got this sis.”
i nod and just focus on taking some deep breaths. i’m not worried about the blackhawks, they are taking connor, i’m worried about the ducks, blue jackets, and sharks.
connor’s name is called like everyone knew it would be and now the nerves kick in again. i whisper to cutter, “you have my phone right?”
“yes. i’ll give it back after you get picked”
i nod and wait for the anaheim organization to take the stage. i swear my heart stopped when they said, “the anaheim ducks are proud to select from usa development program, isla gauthier.”
as soon as i stand, cutter is tackling me into a hug. he says in my ear, “i’m so proud of you isla. you deserve every second of it. enjoy this moment.”
i hug the rest of my family and when i get back to the aisle, i see gabe, ryan, and will all there ready to hug me. i do gabe, then will, and save ry for last. ryan says while he hugs me, “i’m so proud of you baby, you deserve this. i’ll see you soon.”
i smile at my best friends and boyfriend before going down the stairs and towards the stage. i shake the commissioners hand and like blackout.
i know i did interviews and stuff but i don’t know what i said or who they were with.
back stage i saw connor and we hugged and offered our congratulations. adam went next which is nice. and then i hear the fresh prince of bel air theme song and knew that will went 4th.
i give him a big hug back stage telling him how proud i am of him. and now we’re anxiously awaiting ryan and gabe.
he says, “isla relax. he’ll go. they both will.”
“i know. i know.”
shortly after i finish an interview, i hear someone say, “the washington capitals are proud to select from the usa development program, ryan leonard.”
i’m jumping up and down and find will. i say to him, “he’s a capital! he went to washington!” will smiles and we go over to wait for him. will hugs him first so that we can have a moment before getting grabbed back into interviews.
i launch myself into his arms and say, “god i’m so proud of you ryan. so proud.”
he holds me tighter, “i’m proud of you too isla. my pretty girl.” he pulls away so he can look at me before he says, “i love you isla.”
i gasp and smile, “i love you too ryan. so much”
he hugs me again and we stay like that for as long as we can before having to go to interviews and find our families.

Okay okay here we go
So we’ve talked about Reese & Corpsemen plot already so like that all happens (more or less) whatever movie ends blah blah blah
But the Corpsemen have to leave. Reese is safe, ish, Hoskins is gone, her kidnappers are dead, and they’ve got new contracts to follow
It’s not easy to leave, and Malcolm invites her to join them. She’s already got a lot of the skills, between their training and her love of survivalist adventures, they can get her up to speed.
But Reese says no. It’s hard, the hardest decision she’s ever made, but she’s only eighteen, she can’t give up her entire life for this.
“Ask me again when I’m twenty five,” she’d joked, even as she already knew that she would never see them again
She’s known Selina for basically ever, the two heiresses being pretty good friends despite Selina being three (and a half, she loved to remind Reese) years older, and they reunite soon after Reese starts her new, dinosaur-free life
They stay close friends through the next few years, maybe end up as roommates somewhere along the way
Reese is at university with no sense of direction, bouncing all over the place between archaeology, palaeontology, hospitality, history, and any other class that sounds remotely interesting
And then Liam disappears, and Selina finds the letter
And look, Selina knows that if she’s really going to follow this path, she needs two things. Someone she can trust, and someone who knows how to survive an adventure
Lucky for her, Reese Masrani happens to be both
And Reese, lost ever since she said goodbye to the Corpsemen almost five years ago, desperate for a sense of direction in her life, becomes a tourist
Fast forward (I’ll leave it to you to decide how they’d all feel about her lmao) and she goes with Ryan to get coffee.
They come back and they’re almost at the door when Reese hears something. Something she never thought she’d hear again.
She hears The Captain
The man who’d become her family, the first person she’d ever opened up to about her kidnapping, the man who called her Ocelot and taught her to protect herself and promised that no one would hurt her again
Only, that couldn’t be. The Captain wouldn’t be at their hotel, in their room. The adventure must just be making her miss the first team that had become her family, that was all.
She was so lost in thought that she hadn’t realized Ryan had kept moving until she heard the tray of coffee hit the floor
Slowly, carefully, she approached the door, one hand on the gun she’d kept hidden under her jacket since their adventure had started, tucked away into the holster that George had given her one day
She was Reese Masrani, she was prepared for anything
She wasn’t prepared to see the Corpsmen again
She really wasn’t prepared to pull her gun on her former family
(Ps can I just say that somehow in this I also got a potential Oswin x Reese x George love triangle vibe idk why but I did)
An interesting spin, but I can't quite picture Malcolm asking Reese to join them. Ocelot was used purely as a manipulation, a way to put her at ease and to make her feel more welcome and less nervous around the others.
No matter how much training she's received in their brief time on Isla Nublar, she's still too young and inexperienced (and emotionally compromised by Sable) to be a worthy recruit.
He'd have a fondness for her, but that's personal, and wouldn't mix well with business. She'd be a liability in their regular missions, and I feel like the rest of the Corpsemen would agree. The Captain recruits the most experienced and ruthless he comes across, and Reese has a good heart, and a kindness about her that he knows would work against his best interests.
That being said, they'd leave on good terms. He'd even offer up a business card, to a private cell, should she ever need them; something Malcolm Drake rarely does (such a rarity it is that only five have been given before, of which this is one).
I can picture Reese being one of Mason's students, where she would meet and befriend Mack. And she and Selina being each other's relief from the false friends littered among high society.
Her connection with the Corpsemen, however, would put her at odds with Elijah, who has come to hate everything Malcolm and his men have become.

Summer Film Preview: 27 of the Most Anticipated Movies of the Season!
Among ET's 90 top picks for summer are our 27 most anticipated films of the season.
Every summer, there is no shortage of new films to blow audiences away at theaters -- and blow away records at the box office. This summer, things are looking especially massive. Blockbuster season kicks off in a huge way with the highly anticipated back-to-back releases of Deadpool 2and Solo: A Star Wars Story, ushering in an onslaught of franchise films with new installments of Jurassic World, Marvel's Ant-Man, Mission: Impossible and The Purge.
Not everything is a sequel, though. Of the originals is the eagerly awaited adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, marking the first time a major studio has produced an all-Asian-led film since The Joy Luck Club; Spike Lee's latest, BlacKkKlansman; and -- because it wouldn't be summer without one -- a shark attack flick, The Meg, starring Jason Statham.
But no matter what you’re looking forward to, there's plenty to choose from among these 27 sure-to-be hit films.
Deadpool 2 (Out Now)
The Deadpool sequel is bigger, louder and packed with more violence and superpeople, dick jokes and fourth wall-breaking meta-ness than the original X-Men-adjacent movie. And while that all sounds like a recipe for a bloated case of sequelitis, Ryan Reynolds and co. not only pull it off, but top the first.
Directed by: David Leitch | Written by: Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and Ryan Reynolds Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams
Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25)
Forget everything you think you know about the legendary smuggler and prepare for the unexpected. That's the best advice we can give you about Star Wars' latest anthology installment, which, sure, features the Kessel Run and Han Solo and Chewbacca's origin story, then blasts off for so much more.
Directed by: Ron Howard | Written by: Jonathan Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan Starring: Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Emilia Clarke
American Animals (June 1)
Tumblr media
The Orchard / MoviePass Ventures
According to the minds behind American Animals, while most movies are based on a true story, this one is a true story, about four college students who plan "one of the most audacious art heists in U.S. history." It also marks the first appearance on this list by the true star of the summer movie season: Ann Dowd.
Directed by: Bart Layton | Written by: Bart Layton Starring: Evan Peters, Barry Keoghan, Blake Jenner, Jared Abrahamson, Ann Dowd
Hereditary (June 8)
Tumblr media
A24
Following its screening at Sundance earlier this year, Hereditary was hailed as the scariest horror movie in years -- if not of all time. As for what actually transpires in the film, well, that is best left vague. Brace yourself for hypnotically unnerving tongue pops and flashbacks to Toni Collette's iconic turn in The Sixth Sense.
Directed by: Ari Aster | Written by: Ari Aster Starring: Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Ann Dowd
Ocean's 8 (June 8)
This year's Met Gala might as well have been early promo for Ocean's 8, which centers on another heist-happy Ocean, Debbie, who assembles a team of women to help rob a fictional Met Gala. (If you do some simple math, it seems Anne Hathaway's mark is one of the eight, too.) Unfortunately, Rihanna will likely not be dressed as a sexy pope.
Directed by: Gary Ross | Written by: Gary Ross and Olivia Milch Starring: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna
Won't You Be My Neighbor? (June 8)
Tumblr media
Focus Features
If you were a child in the '60s -- or '70s, '80s, '90s, the aughts, really, if you were a child ever -- then Won't You Be My Neighbor? will be a nostalgic return to your younger years, a look at the long-running and formative TV series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and the man behind it, the late Fred Rogers.
Directed by: Morgan Neville
Hearts Beat Loud (June 8)
Tumblr media
Gunpowder & Sky
This gem of an indie is for anyone who has ever wished Nick Offerman could be your best friend, your dad or both: Kiersey Clemons plays Offerman's daughter and reluctant bandmate as they navigate fame and family in Hearts Beat Louder. Sprinkle in a queer romance and an earworm-y soundtrack, and what more could you ask for?
Directed by: Brett Haley | Written by: Brett Haley and Marc Basch Starring: Nick Offerman, Kiersey Clemons, Ted Danson, Toni Collette, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner
Hotel Artemis (June 8)
Tumblr media
Global Road Entertainment
Read this logline: "Set in riot-torn, near-future Los Angeles, Hotel Artemis is a high-octane action-thriller starring Jodie Foster as The Nurse, who runs a secret, members-only hospital for criminals." Now re-read that sentence over and over and over until you go insane and this becomes your most anticipated movie of the year.
Directed by: Drew Pearce | Written by: Drew Pearce Starring: Jodie Foster, Dave Bautista, Sofia Boutella, Zachary Quinto, Sterling K. Brown, Jeff Goldblum
Incredibles 2 (June 15)
Tumblr media
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
It has been well over a decade since the original Incredibles arrived in theaters and, even now, under the looming threat of superhero saturation, that first film remains one of the best superhero movies period. Finally, Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack are back, with Frozone and, of course, Edna.
Directed by: Brad Bird | Written by: Brad Bird Starring: Holly Hunter, Craig T. Nelson, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine Keener, Sophia Bush
Tag (June 15)
Tumblr media
Warner Bros. Pictures
This is a movie about tag -- as in, the game in which you tag someone and they are then "it." Specifically, Tag is about a group of childhood buddies who have been playing tag one month out of the year, every year, for 30 years. If you are wondering, Where do they come up with this?!, it was a Wall Street Journal article.
Directed by: Jeff Tomsic | Written by: Rob McKittrick and Mark Steilen Starring: Jeremy Renner, Ed Helms, Jake Johnson, Jon Hamm, Hannibal Buress, Isla Fisher, Leslie Bibb
Damsel (June 22)
Tumblr media
Magnolia Pictures
If you hear that Robert Pattinson is starring in a Western, you probably have a notion of what that film is. Damsel is not the movie you're imagining, guaranteed -- unless, of course, you pictured a screwball comedy about a pioneer who voyages west with a drunkard and a miniature horse named Butterscotch.
Directed by: David Zellner and Nathan Zellner | Written by: David Zellner and Nathan Zellner Starring: Robert Pattinson, Mia Wasikowska, David Zellner
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (June 22)
In the colossally successful Jurassic World, the dinosaurs destroyed the park, as dinosaurs are wont to do, and now Isla Nublar is threatening to destroy the dinosaurs. Thus, Claire and Owen are enlisted to help save the dinosaurs from a second extinction -- and that's only the beginning of this adventure.
Directed by: J.A. Bayona | Written by: Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, James Cromwell, Justice Smith
Under the Silver Lake (June 22)
Tumblr media
A24
Something about those hot summer nights must make us itch for a mystery, because this is yet another noir-y flick arriving in cineplexes, albeit a very modern take on the genre. Andrew Garfield plays a stoner Angelino who begins sleuthing when his dream girl disappears in the middle of the night without a trace.
Directed by: David Robert Mitchell | Written by: David Robert Mitchell Starring: Andrew Garfield, Riley Keough, Topher Grace, Jimmi Simpson
The First Purge (July 4)
Tumblr media
Universal Pictures
There's something almost comforting about knowing that every (sometimes every other) Independence Day brings a new installment in the ongoing Purge franchise. Who knew a nutty little murder flick could have so much steam? This one goes back to the beginning and the invention of a government-sponsored killing spree.
Directed by: Gerard McMurray | Written by: James DeMonaco Starring: Lex Scott Davis, Y'lan Noel, Luna Lauren Velez, Joivan Wade, Marisa Tomei
Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6)
Consider the Ant-Man sequel a respite for those still reeling over the ending of Infinity War, a plucky comedic romp about heroes who shrink, supersize and now fly, too, which probably won't leave you frantically wiping away tears as the theater lights come on. Also, Michelle Pfeiffer plays a superhero!
Directed by: Peyton Reed | Written by: Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari and Paul Rudd Starring: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hannah John-Kamen, Michael Peña
Sorry to Bother You (July 6)
Tumblr media
Annapurna Pictures
There is original, and then there is Sorry to Bother You. If a stranger, more out-there film has ever been made, I haven't seen it. I've never seen anything like this, a satiric tale about a telemarketer who uses his "white voice" to get ahead that feels at once painstakingly plotted and completely free-associated.
Directed by: Boots Riley | Written by: Boots Riley Starring: Lakeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, Jermaine Fowler, Steven Yeun, Armie Hammer
Whitney (July 6)
Whitney is not the first documentary to turn the lens on Whitney Houston in the years since her 2012 death, but it is the first to be endorsed by her estate, featuring interviews with loved ones of Houston who had never spoken publicly before and bombshell revelations that made news ahead of Whitney's official release.
Directed by: Kevin Macdonald
Eighth Grade (July 13)
Tumblr media
A24
You know how adults always say, "I'm so happy I didn't grow up when there was social media." Watch this Sundance drama, comedian Bo Burnham's directorial debut, and feel that tenfold, alternately a cringey and heartwarming look at what it means to be coming into your own -- yes, with YouTube and Twitter.
Directed by: Bo Burnham | Written by: Bo Burnham Starring: Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (July 20)
Is Meryl Streep's character still alive for the Mamma Mia! sequel? Supposedly. We do know that we will see a younger version of Donna (played by Lily James) as the ABBA singalong jumps back in time to show the Dynamos' origin story, while in the present, Donna's daughter is pregnant with a baby of her own.
Directed by: Ol Parker | Written by: Ol Parker Starring: Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Lily James, Colin Firth, Cher
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (July 27)
Tumblr media
Paramount Pictures
After successfully completing five other supposedly impossible missions, whatever Ethan Hunt is tasked with in Fallout should be considered mission: pretty difficult but manageable. Still, Tom Cruise continues to up the ante in insane and preposterous ways, like jumping out of a plane at 25,000 feet, for one.
Directed by: Christopher McQuarrie | Written by: Christopher McQuarrie Starring: Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson, Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett
Christopher Robin (Aug. 3)
If you enjoyed last year's period drama Goodbye Christopher Robin, about the real boy who inspired the creation of Winnie the Pooh, then you are sure to enjoy this, too, Disney's less historical, more fantastical tale about grown-up Christopher Robin and how Pooh and the rest of the Hundred Acre Wood gang help him rediscover his imagination.
Directed by: Marc Forster | Written by: Alex Ross Perry Starring: Ewan McGregor, Hayley Atwell, Jim Cummings, Chris O'Dowd, Brad Garrett, Toby Jones
The Spy Who Dumped Me (Aug. 3)
I would pay money to watch Kate McKinnon read the phone book. Thankfully, she gets much more to do in this action-comedy, in which Mila Kunis plays the unwitting woman dumped by a spy. McKinnon plays her bestie, and the two quickly find themselves in over their heads trying to stop a terrorist group and save the world.
Directed by: Susanna Fogel | Written by: David Iserson and Susanna Fogel Starring: Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Sam Heughan, Gillian Anderson, Justin Theroux
BlacKkKlansman (Aug. 10)
Tumblr media
Focus Features
Spike Lee is back with his latest joint, the so-crazy-it-must-be-true saga of Ron Stallworth, the first black police officer in Colorado Springs, and his undercover operation to infiltrate a local Ku Klux Klan chapter, which was so successful that he eventually became its head.
Directed by: Spike Lee | Written by: Spike Lee, David Rabinowitz, Charlie Wachtel, Kevin Willmott Starring: John David Washington, Adam Driver, Topher Grace, Laura Harrier
The Meg (Aug. 10)
Tumblr media
Warner Bros. Pictures
No summer is complete without a silly shark attack movie, and for the summer of 2018, The Meg fits that bill and then some. First of all, the shark in question is a megalodon, which basically just means a REALLY BIG F**KING SHARK, and hopefully Jason Statham will punch it at some point, right?
Directed by: Jon Turteltaub | Written by: Dean Georgaris, Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber Starring: Jason Statham, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson, Bingbing Li, Cliff Curtis, Masi Oka
Crazy Rich Asians (Aug. 17)
Based on the bestselling novel by Kevin Kwan, Crazy Rich Asians is about a Chinese American professor who travels to Singapore to meet her boyfriend's family and discovers they are -- you guessed it -- crazy rich! Hijinks ensue. This is also the first Hollywood movie with a majority Asian cast in 25 years, i.e., crazy overdue.
Directed by: Jon M. Chu | Written by: Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim Starring: Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Ken Jeong
To All the Boys I've Loved Before (Aug. 17)
Tumblr media
Netflix
Here's one YA fans have been waiting for. Based on the bestselling novel by Jenny Han, the title refers to letters our heroine, Lara Jean Covey, writes to her past crushes, love letters they are never meant to see -- but do, after they're accidentally mailed out. You don't need to head to the cinema to swoon over this one; it's streaming on Netflix.
Directed by: Susan Johnson | Written by: Sofia Alvarez Starring: Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish, Emilija Baranac, Israel Broussard, John Corbett
The Happytime Murders (Aug. 17)
Nothing says summertime like puppets snorting ecstasy and soliciting sex. The Happytime Murders -- no lie, from the same director as The Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island -- is about police partners, one felt and one Melissa McCarthy, investigating who is shooting the stuffing out of puppets.
Directed by: Brian Henson | Written by: Todd Berger Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale

Dominion: Terramar
Tumblr media
Nombre Dominion: Terramar Editor Devir Diseñador Donald X. West Week Ever: Pop Culture In Review - 7/21/17
I haven’t been doing such a great job with my movie tally for 2017. We’re more than halfway through the year, and I’ve barely watched anything. Well, I kinda made up for that last weekend, as I caught Keeping Up With The Joneses on HBO. This is one of those movies that came and went, and might find a fan base on TV, but will probably just be forgotten. If it should be remembered for anything, it’s that it features both Gal Gadot and Isla Fisher in lingerie. That’s about all it’s got going for it. What’s it about? Well, Isla Fisher and Zack Galifianakis star as a milquetoast suburbanite couple who become suspicious of their new neighbors, Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot. So, they’re pushed out of their comfort zone when they find out Hamm and Gadot are spies, and they get wrapped up in their latest mission. This is the kind of movie I would’ve killed a chunk of a Saturday afternoon on had it aired on Fox 5, but I can understand why nobody went to see it in theaters. Folks loved Don Draper, but for whatever reason, they have no desire to help along Jon Hamm’s movie career. And this was pre-Wonder Woman Gadot, so there was no heat on her yet. It doesn’t suck, but it’s got no Wow Factor either. Once it hits FX, it might be a good way to waste away a rainy Sunday afternoon.
I finally got around to watching The Nice Guys, too. I’d tried a few months ago, but I only got as far as the Ryan Gosling fully clothed in the bathtub scene, where I went, “What the eff am I watching?” I wasn’t ready for the absurd that night, but I was ready now. Like everyone had told me, it was really good. I still have trouble with heist/mystery films because my brain doesn’t work as fast as the film, so sometimes I have to reflect back on the thing when it’s over just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Ryan Gosling is a private investigator who teams up with local tough guy Russell Crowe to track down a missing girl. Sure, there’s some stuff about porn, and the Detroit auto lobby, but that’s the gist of the movie. It’s got a precocious kid, a cool 70s aesthetic, and titties. Can’t really hate on any of that. Anyway, I could see this as one of those movies I drop everything to watch whenever I see that it’s on. If you haven’t seen it, definitely check it out.
My new favorite reality show debuted this week on Bravo, called A Night With My Ex. It’s just what the title says: a former couple spends the night together to see if the spark is still there and/or to reopen old wounds. In the premiere, 28 year old virgin Rachel is reunited to smarmy douchebag ex-boyfriend Fabian. They dated for four years, but he cheated on her with a sexy Tinkerbell at a Halloween party because he had a major case of blue balls. When the show starts, you don’t think Fabian is really that bad of a guy. He knows he made a mistake, and he even plans to propose to Rachel because he wants her in his life forever. But things go south quickly. He chastises her for scraping her plate with her fork as she eats, and he tries to make her give him a handjob once they’re in bed. All the while, she’s trying to actually apologize for basically pushing him to cheat by withholding sex, but he never lets her get a word out before saying/doing something stupid. Finally she declares that she deserves better than him, and basically laughs in his face when he proposes. That was some damn good television! If anything, I’d say the show is too short at 30 minutes, but they only spend one night together, and not the whole weekend, so I guess that’s all they could edit together. It’s a lot like MTV’s old show, The X Effect, only the couple’s current partners aren’t spying on the date like they were in that show. Anyway, it’s only been one episode, but I count me in for the next nine!
In TV news, it was announced that Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have lined up their post-GoT project, Confederate, which is an alternate history series set prior to the United States’ 3rd Civil War. Well, this rang some alarm bells for some folks, as you can’t really get into the Confederacy and Civil War without dealing with slavery. And folks weren’t really happy about these White showrunners making what some considered to be “slavery fanfic”. What hasn’t been covered extensively, though, is that the project is really just coasting on the fact that the GoT showrunners are attached, but they’re not the only ones involved. Husband-wife team of Malcolm Spellman and Nichelle Tramble Spellman , who are Black, will be partners on the show along with Benioff and Weiss. Plus, the show it’s so deep in its infancy that there aren’t even character names or an outline yet. It was originally developed as a two-hour movie, but they decided it could be fleshed out and taken to television. There’s basically nothing on paper for it yet, though, so there’s not much for folks to be upset about at this stage other than mere speculation. The Spellmans acknowledge the criticism, but say that they’d rather it had followed the premiere of the show instead of starting now, as it’s being announced. At this point, I think it’s safe to say that this criticism will go into shaping the show going forward, so we may never get what they originally intended to put out.
youtube
We got a new trailer for Marvel’s Inhumans. Still looks like garbage. I’ve loved Iwan Rheon since Misfits, but I can’t follow him here. This just looks so bad. Look, I’m gonna watch it, but I really don’t see how there’s any damn way I’m paying for an IMAX ticket to see it in theaters.
youtube
We also got a new teaser for The Defenders, which teases the Punisher series at the end. People are going nuts online about this thing because it’s narrated by Stan Lee, but I actually think he’s tonally wrong for this clip. When I think of Stan, I think of his marquee, larger than life characters – NOT the street-level vigilantes. I almost feel like it would’ve been better narrated by Bendis or Brubaker, but they don’t have the recognition factor that Stan has. I get that. Still, it just feels like a hollow waste of a cameo.
Things You Might Have Missed This Week
The good Lord answered my prayers, as Chris Hardwick and Comedy Central have “mutually decided” to end @midnight. I won’t miss his smarmy face or those stupid hashtag games.
I guess the third time’s the charm, as Paige Davis will start her 3rd hosting stint on Trading Spaces when it returns to TLC later this year
Ed Sheeran was on Game of Thrones this week, and I guess some folks didn’t like that. I dunno. I kinda couldn’t care less about Sheeran or GoT, but folks were hatin’!
Meanwhile, it was reported that Lena Dunham will join American Horror Story for season 7, and folks lost their shit about that, too. Apparently she’ll only be in one episode, but that was enough for some folks to claim they weren’t gonna watch anymore.
Transformers: Titans Return will debut in November as an animated micro series on the Go90 app, featuring the voices of Green Ranger Jason David Frank and the original Rodimus Prime himself, Judd Nelson.
MTV is in talks to reboot Teen Wolf before this iteration’s final season has even concluded. Slow it down!
Sega broke up with Archie Comics over Twitter, thereby ending the Sonic The Hedgehog comic after 24 years of publication
Seacrest IN! Ryan Seacrest has officially signed on to host ABC’s revival of American Idol. I feel like I’ve written this sentence 3 times in the past already, but now it’s for real for real.
Coming as no real surprise since The Vampire Diaries ended, The CW announced that its spinoff, The Originals, will end after its upcoming season.
In an odd choice, the directors of the original Catfish documentary (the movie, not the show) are in talks talks to helm a Mega Man film that will be produced by Masi Oka of Heroes fame.
Words with Friends is being developed into a television game show. Ya know, so it’s basically the Scrabble game show being rebooted.
Meanwhile on Black Twitter, R. Kelly is allegedly running a sex cult, Usher paid a woman $1.1 million for her to keep quiet about the fact that he gave her herpes, and Kevin Hart allegedly got caught cheating on his pregnant wife. I’m just waiting for some crazy Steve Harvey news to round out the week.
At San Diego Comic Con, MGM announced Stargate Origins, which appears to be a prequel webseries that will run on the Stargate Command website this fall.
Shazam! will be the next DC film to go into production, following Justice League and Aquaman, but it’s unclear if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will co-star as Black Adam.
There might soon be a new Cutco salesman on the block, as OJ Simpson has been granted parole from the armed robbery that landed him in prison nine years ago. The Juice is almost loose!
I love those weeks when the West Week Ever recipient presents itself early in the week, ’cause it’s pretty much smooth sailing after that. This was one of those weeks, as history was made across the pond. The Doctor Who franchise is over 50 years old, but every time the Doctor regenerates (a clever in-story mechanism for recasting the actor), he just turns into another White dude. That’s pretty much been the unending pattern since 1966, when the first regeneration occurred. Folks have been saying it’s time for a change, and they were hoping we’d either end up with a Doctor of color (with The IT Crowd‘s Richard Ayoade coming up in a lot of the discussions) or a woman Doctor. Well, half of them got their wish, as Attack the Block‘s Jodie Whittaker was announced as the 13th Doctor. And, as you’re probably not surprised, folks lost their shit.
We’re always taught the the Brits are so proper and upstanding, but the comments sections of several sites proved that they can troll with the best of them. At the end of the day, it’s a bunch of folks who are afraid of change. A friend of mine, however, did point out that the victors in these circumstances also tend to trigger the backlash against themselves. For example, it would be one thing if this was seen as a bold move forward for a progressive franchise. The problem, however, is that some people take it too far, and get on the “I’m savoring these fanboy tears” soapbox, making it about something that it really didn’t need to devolve into. Sometimes the winners can suck just as much as the losers in these scenarios. This can be seen as a “win” for some without it being a “loss” for someone else. How about framing it as a win for everyone? Nah, the internet doesn’t really work like that.
I have never gotten into the Doctor Who franchise because it just seems so daunting. Sure, folks claim you really only have to start with the Eccleston season, but when I get into something, I go ALL IN. To me, that’s like telling someone they can start Star Trek with The Next Generation (which I’d probably do, since I hate The Original Series, even though I’d still feel like I was cheating them out of an experience). I feel like I’d have to watch all 54 years of the show, which is impossible because those seasons ain’t streaming anywhere, and a good chunk of them have been lost to time. It’s a franchise that cannot be wholly consumed! I hate mysteries that can’t be solved. Still, I can respect a longstanding institution, and I understand when change is a big deal. It’ll be interesting to see how fans take to the new Doctor, but the one thing to remember is that she’ll probably do it for 2 years, and then regenerate into another old White guy (the Doctor role has the retention rate of a community college). So, everyone gets their wish! I am kinda curious about the next season, though, as rumor has it Kris Marshall (Colin: God of Sex from Love Actually) is going to be the Doctor’s next companion. I loved that dude!
Anyway, I know which side of history I want to be on, and it’ll be interesting to see this all play out. The way the franchise works, we won’t see her until the Christmas special, and then won’t see her again until late 2018 at the earliest. So, folks have got some time to get used to the idea. Still, I think it goes without saying that Jodie Whittaker had the West Week Ever.
