This was also mentioned a little bit in response to an earlier question about Cater's habit of flirting with people, which includes a compilation of screenshots of what is probably the kind of scenes that people are thinking about when they talk about Cater being a playboy!

But I think this might depend on your definition of "playboy" 👀

As of this post, the only canonical romantic relationship we have heard of in the game (on EN 👀) is Ace and his ex-girlfriend!

If your definition of "playboy" is "someone who dates a lot of different people," then "playboy" does not apply to Cater, as far as we know :>

What we do know is this!

His family moved around a lot when he was a child so, at some point, he started intentionally keeping his interpersonal relationships shallow rather than try to forge meaningful connections:

"That's why I always tried to be on good terms with everyone, rather than forge strong bonds with a chosen few. Like a circus performer who has a grand old time with people from around the world, and then packs up and moves on."

While never stated outright, it is a common theory that this is why Cater keeps Trey at arm's length during Wish Upon a Star:

Trey is already his closest friend, so Cater might be keeping up a buffer zone of secrets like what his true wish for the Star Sending is so that they do not become any closer, and their inevitable parting will be less painful.

Lilia tries to encourage Cater, saying that, in deciding not to get too close to any one person he may be the wisest one there, but Cater is not convinced that Lilia can truly empathize:

"Lilia's developed cherished relationships while living in the same place his whole life. There's no way he could ever understand how helpless I feel."

Another thing we know about Cater is that he might be feeling the loss of one, specific friend in particular! He tells Silver that he remembers making a friend at a new school one time, only to immediately learn that he would be moving away again the next month.

It is interesting that he mentions this one friend in particular--were they the catalyst? Was that the point when he decided that he would never get close to another person? We do not know 👀

If you are seeing "playboy Cater" coming from the JP side of the fandom, it is possibly because his speech patterns are that of a チャラい character on JP!

I think "flirt" is a decent translation for チャラい? 🧐 (It was localized as "shallow" on EN, and is the reason why Eliza rejects Cater during the Phantom Bride event.)

They are characters that talk/look flashy, seem shallow, and tend to flirt with everyone equally rather than picking someone specific to pursue. (Orange hair is common but is not required ww)

Much like Epel appears delicate but is actually the opposite and Lilia appears young but is actually old, it is possible that Cater intentionally acts shallow while actually he has a complex inner world--he is flighty not because he is trying to attract people, but because he is trying to keep them away.

Kurusu Kazuki

28 years old, assassin

Birthday: 16th May

Lives with his colleague and buddy Rei, and looks after his daily needs. When working with Rei, his responsibilities are mostly arranging the contract, gathering intel in advance, and setting up the plan for execution. Excellent communication skills. Fond of women and gambling. Good at cooking and cleaning, and periodically chides Rei for his sloppy lifestyle. Was married in the past, and his wife was pregnant, but she died as a result of some shady business dealings. As penance for this, he sends part of his earnings to his wife’s younger sister, but she refuses to accept it.

Suwa Rei

25 years old, assassin

Birthday: 10th August

A man of few words. Usually doesn’t even bat an eye when Kazuki comes staggering home. Outstanding physical ability; at the top of the field in hand-to-hand combat and marksmanship. There is a drastic contrast between his ON (professional) and OFF (private) modes - at home, he just shuts himself in and plays games. Born into a large mob family, he received special assassin training from his father ever since his childhood. Unable to escape the conflicts in his family, he has no understanding of normal parent-child relationships.

Unasaka Miri

Birthday: 8th November

A truly lively, innocent girl who fears nothing. Showed up at a hotel in search of her father, and got caught up in a gunfight, but was rescued by Kazuki. Her father was a prominent human trafficker and a mafia boss; he was killed by Kazuki and Rei as one of their mission targets. Her mother was the boss’s lover. Miri’s favourite food is the hamburg steak her mother makes; she has no idea that she has been abandoned. An affectionate child, she calls Kazuki “Kazuki-papa”, and Rei “Rei-papa”.

Kugi Kyutaro

32 years old, cafe owner

Voice actor: Morikawa Toshiyuki

A go-between who coordinates jobs for Kazuki and Rei. Usually puts on a friendly demeanour as the owner of the cafe “Mistletoe”. Keenly perceptive, and remarkably well-informed. Knows a lot about Kazuki and Rei’s pasts, but for some reason, has never intervened, and keeps their relationship squarely within the limits of a business transaction. Generally acts like a kind older brother, but when a job goes wrong, will also readily discard all that to be completely businesslike. A reliable partner to Kazuki and Rei, but keeps them on their toes.

Ogino Ryo

Age unknown, assassin

Voice actor: Madono Mitsuaki

A killing machine who has murdered many people without a trace of emotion. He’s destroyed numerous organisations with his massive physique and overwhelming strength, and travels all over in search of work. Acquainted with Kyutaro. He is connected with the incident in which Kazuki’s wife died, but Kazuki is unaware of this.

Miri’s mother. After an affair with Miri’s father, who was a mafia boss, she had Miri as a single mother. Has bad luck with men, and leads a wild life.

A staff member at “Blue Sky Daycare”. Has a calm and gentle personality. The children call her “Anna-chan”. Not good at playing the piano.

No spoilers but damn I have some things to say about Moriarty the Patriot OP5!

1: Liam don’t go towards the light

2: The High Five was adorable

3: The Bridge Scene was *chef’s kiss*

4: This one isn’t specific to OP5 but I think anyone that does anything violin related for Moriarty should get a raise. The playing is insane!

5: I love Sho and Ryo. They are amazing and I would love to meet them someday. (Even though I know I probably won’t)

6: I need someone to make a compilation of all William’s oo’s, aah’s and ooh’s from all 5 musicals. I don’t have the resources or knowledge to do it myself. It really was one of my favorite things.

7: Overall it was great. Since I don’t know Japanese I will need to translate what Sho and Ryo said at the end but I highly recommend watching if you can.
