Ichiro Yamada

You ask him during an anime marathon with him. Ichiro would do it no questions asked.

Ichiro used to peel oranges for Jiro and Saburo when they were younger so it’s not suspicious when you ask him

He assumes you don’t like the rind getting under your nails or maybe the smell sticking isn't something you like

When he's finished, Ichiro hands the orange back to you with a big smile!

You watched in silent awe as he got up from his spot beside you to instead crouch beside his trash can. "Do you want me to pause the show?" You were already reaching for the remote with a frown.

"Nah, it's fine. I already watched the episode before you came over. I just wanted to watch it again with you." He assured you with a shake of his head as he peeled back the hard outer layer of the orange bit by bit. There were stringy remnants of the rind making its way under his nails and eventually he was finished. He returned to his seat beside you on the couch and held out the orange in the large palm of his hand. “Here, sorry it’s a little messy.” He apologized with a warm smile, appearing proud of his handy work. You accepted the orange and curled a finger for him to come closer. When he did, you rewarded him with a kiss to the cheek.

Jiro Yamada

You ask him during lunch at school and he looked confused by the request. You don't honestly expect someone as rough as Jiro Yamada to peel an orange for anyone.

Girls are weird like that, coming up with these kinds of games to see the reactions they'll get from others.

He's not upset by it. Jiro assumes its one of those personality games he's seen online.

And why not just peel it? He doesn't mind, only because it's you.

Jiro stared at you with a frown as you made the request, holding the orange out to him with a hopeful look in your eyes. "Gimmie." He took the orange from you, the two of you sitting on the roof of the school as you watched him mutilate the rind of the orange. Pulling it apart roughly, nearly tearing away some of the outer white skin. "This is all you're eating today? You're gonna waste away..." He clicked his tongue sounding agitated as he continued to peel, haphazardly tossing the remains beside him. Before you knew it, Jiro dropped the orange back into your hand. He watched patiently with a blush forming on his cheeks as you sat with him and ate your orange, giving him a small thank you. You didn't actually expect him to peel it for you. "I bet it tastes better since I'm the one who peeled it!" He spoke proudly, and you nodded in response. He wasn't expecting you to agree...

The two of you ate together quietly, enjoying one another's company.

Saburo Yamada

You wanted to see how he would react! Hopefully he'll grow into a respectable adult like his older brother... But Saburo wonders if maybe… This is a test from Ichiro?!

There’s some hesitation since he doesn’t want to get the peel all over his keyboard so he opts to get up and crouch beside a garbage can to peel your orange.

He likes knowing that you wanted him to do it. It makes him feel reliable!

After this, he will be letting Jiro know that you asked HIM to peel your orange.

“You couldn’t peel this yourself? You’re so hopeless…” He comments under his breath, fighting back a smile. Saburo felt a swell of pride in his chest knowing you came to him instead of Jiro or Ichiro for such a mundane task. He takes your orange, and similarly to his older brother, crouches in front of a trash can to peel away the orange. But instead of peeling bit by bit, Saburo found an efficient way to peel the orange in an unusually neat spiral. "Is there a reason why you asked me to do this?" Saburo hasn't seen the trend, so he's genuinely curious. You respond by just saying you wanted him to do it. This seemed to make him happy! "Is that so? I see." He was happy he was facing the trash can. His smile was huge knowing that you wanted him to do it. Being the youngest of his brothers, he doesn't usually have many responsibilities from others. Since, they assume that he can't handle them. When he finished, he held the orange carefully and brought it to you in the palms of his hands. "I think I did a pretty good job." He beamed and you took the orange with a smile. Saburo needs to tell Jiro and rub it in his face. But first, he wants to admire you enjoying the orange.

Hypmic with Pokemon is something that's got a good chunk of brian rot im my head. Do I know a lot about Pokemon? No. I went of vibes and story beats I made up!

Eevee: When Saburo was younger and still in the orphanage, one day he came across a small eevee. Most likely the runt of its litter due its size and unnatural fur color. Saburo snuck out night after night to take care of it. Then after the Stairway to Heaven incident, he was able to sneak out again to go to eevee but Ichiro and his then Kirlia followed him. The rest is history. (I thought eevee was a good pick since they seem to be like the potential Pokemon, Pokemon who can grow up to be anything. Why did I make it shiny?... Favoritism.)

Gengar: Year's after the Stairway to Heaven incident and only a month or two after Odd Jobs Yamada's official opening. There had been neighborhood talk of spooky things happening at night and nightmares becoming more frequent. The brother suspected a ghost type Pokemon was behind this and Ichiro with his now Gallade began to come up with a away to track it down. But after a few days or two with zero luck they began to doubt themselves. Saburo, wanting to prove himself and one up Jiro, went out late with Eevee to search or try and lure it out. He ended up at a park near a thicket of trees, he heard a snap of a twig and other ominous noises. Barely scared, he investigates and meets face to face with a Gengar. Eevee jumps to their feet to defend, but the Gangar startles and disappears into the shadows. After further investigation, Saburo and Eevee find a broken pokeball that looked like it was purposefully snapped in half. It takes a few more fleeting encounters and one lost walk (Saburo ended up in an abandoned building trying to find Gengar) later for Gengar to get close with the pair. Saburo began to bring food preferred by ghost type Pokemon and just sit with Gengar on days where he was frustrated or wanted some quiet. Soon enough the pair of Saburo and Eevee turned into a trio. (Idk gengar seemed spooky and I wanted Saburo's second Pokemon to be spooky)

To a lot of people, it looked like you and Saburo were dating. Granted, there was a lot of damning evidence. For starters, the two of you had a shared Instagram that was always up-to-date. You had a lot of matching clothes and he hardly ever hacked you. The two of you like the same candy and have the same sense of humor.

You must be dating right?

“No, no, we’re not dating. We’re just best friends, that’s all.” You laughed, your arm slung over his shoulders. “Trust me, I don’t think I could bear having him as a boyfriend, as cute as he is.”

He scoffed. “Pssh, you wish you could bag someone as cool as me!”

“In your dreams!”

“Like you’d ever be in my dreams!”

If it wasn’t already obvious, no the two of you are not dating. You’re just very close friends. You have been since you were in preschool. Ever since the day he helped you up from a nasty tumble on the playground, you two have been inseparable. And you preferred it that way.

Saburo’s brothers, on the other hand, weren’t all that convinced. While Ichiro tried to laugh every time you assured him you weren’t dating, he would ask Saburo when you weren’t around if he needed help confessing to you. Of course, he shut that conversation down quickly. As for Jiro, he believed it was some ultimate prank, that you both were secretly dating and telling him you weren’t for the perfect gotcha moment. But that wasn’t the case either.

Although pranking him like that sounded like a great idea, which you filed away for later in case you wanted to try.

You sighed, laying back on Saburo’s bed, your phone on your chest. You were updating your friend-stagram as you liked to call it when you got a comment asking if you two were dating. You immediately went to tell them that, no, you were just besties, when you hesitated. Glancing at Saburo sitting next to you, tapping away on his phone and sucking on a lollipop, you frowned.

Saburo was pretty and he was nice to you when it mattered. He was funny and courageous and passionate about a lot of things you liked as well. But when you tried to look at him in the Boyfriend Light, you just couldn’t see it. Saburo was your friend! If anything, he was like a brother! He just wasn’t your type at all and a part of you felt guilty. What if he didn’t think that way?

“Hey, Saburo?” You asked before you could tell yourself not to open your mouth.

“What?”

“Do you ever think maybe we should date?”

Yep, just rip it off like a bandage. That’ll work.

He paused, moving the lollipop around in his mouth as he thought. “Do you want a serious answer or no?”

“Serious answer, please.”

There was another stretch of time before he said, “In all honesty, and I hope you’re not offended, but I really don’t. I just don’t see you as my significant other. You’re my bestie, my ride or die, sure, but not, like, the love of my life. You’re just Y/n and I think that’s perfect just the way it is. I’m sorry if that isn’t the answer you wanted-”

“No.” You quickly cut him off. “No, I mean, I feel the same way. You’re not boyfriend material to me. I mean, I hope one day you find someone you could fall in love with, but I don’t think it will be me. I mean, I hope it won’t be me.”

He nodded. “Yeah, we’re just besties.”

“Besties who steal each other’s candy.”

“I KNEW IT WAS YOU!”
