Saint Notburga of Rattenberg
1265-1313
Feast Day: September 14
Patronage: servants, peasants, farmers
Saint Notburga was the daughter of German peasants. She was a kitchen maid of Count Henry of Rattenberg and saved the leftovers for the poor. Once asked if she could forgo attending Mass and work more, she said, ”Let my sickle be the judge between me and you.” The sickle remained suspended in the air. She is remembered for her hard work, charity and prayerfulness. Many miracles are attributed to her intercession.

Hl. Notburga (Noitburgis) von Köln
gefeiert am 31. Oktober
Hl.

Catholicism Questions:
When and why did you become Catholic?
What's your favourite thing about Catholicism?
Favourite saint(s) and why?
Favourite book(s) of the Bible and why?
1) I was a cradle Catholic, born and raised in the Faith. Everyone in my close family sort of fell out of it when I was around ten years old (my household dealt with abuse, violence, alcoholism, so you get the idea why there was no more place offered to God there). During my teenage years, I was on and off with the Faith. It was mainly a refusal of it, while having the occasional sudden devotion to God and wanting to become a nun. I came back fully to it two years ago, after an intense happening that turned my life around. From that moment on, there was no more doubt. I knew I would live my life with God. From then on, I had to re-start learning everything I was told so long ago as a child. Some things I had actually never even known and were a complete discovery. Which is why even to this day, my knowledge isn't yet very developed, but my Faith is strong, and I am loving my daily studies of the Bible 😊
2) The mystery of the Eucharist, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, "One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church": The fact that the Catholic Church was established by Jesus and has followed through apostolic succession directly from his time on Earth. The fact that everywhere in the world, Catholics are connected through this Faith.
3) Saint Dymphna is my most favorite Saint. I prayed for her intercession a lot and have been helped greatly. I have a special devotion to her. I do make a cross-stitch of a painting of her that helps me focus on prayers while doing it at the same time.
I also particularly like Saint Notburga, Saint Therese de Lisieux, Saint Joseph and Saint Anne.
4) This is ever changing 😅 Currently, it would be the book of Leviticus. It was a challenge to get through it. The pace is much different from the previous books. The old Laws, the many repetitions... it was initially startling, until I found there is more to it. This book highlights the design God has for our relationship with Him. His desire to see us reunite with Him, the meaning of Sacrifice that would later be linked to Him offering His son as sacrifice for us, to atone for our sins, the meaning of Holiness and the importance of living as our community.
Please, keep in my mind that English isn't my first language. I am going through the process of re-learning everything in English (prayers, names, designated words, etc), but I might have slipped some mistakes here and there. When discussing the Catholic Faith, the use of words is very important and I hope I am not offending anyone if I wrote something wrong. Please, feel free to correct my speech whenever. 😊

Arms of Eben am Achensee, Austria
Granted 1972 Blazon: Sable two points dexter and sinister azure, a Kandele argent The black-on-blue evidently represents the mountains surrounding the valley town and its lake. I have no idea what a Kandele translates to in English. It’s apparently a symbol of the local saint, Notburga - which explains why it’s featured, but not what on earth it is. It seems like Notburga is mostly associated with agricultural products and the sickle, neither of which quite fit with this charge. If anyone has any information on what this could be, I’d welcome it!
