Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know I’ll be teaching a free online class (critique & Q&A) with the launch of the Kickstarter campaign for my 2nd book this Saturday, June 8!
The campaign will go live at noon EST, there will be a special discount for the first day, and there will be a free online class on drawing at 3pm EST.
Check out the Studio Technique site or Facebook event for updates and more info.
Here’s some gesture drawing looking at Samantha Youssefs approach, I much prefer this as I tend to over complicate my gestures. #disneyanimationstudios #sonyanimation #dreamworksanimation #gesturedrawing #characterdesign #samanthayoussef #apple #wacom https://www.instagram.com/p/B81WdGXjX7O/?igshid=142jc3xvtayua
I've just read an interview with her which you can find here: http://ladyanimators.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/samantha-youssef.html
I'm all over her twitter and blog which you can find here:

And tomorrow I will be listening to her podcast. She's amazing. She does ballet, she's an animator, has her own business - teaching and still has time for sketch dailies... Wow. (yeah she has an assistant but it sounds like she needs one). What an inspiration!!!
This was one of my first scenes as a professional animator! Little Tarzan was my first character that I animated on at Disney.
It was amazing for me because John Ripa was one of my biggest inspirations when I was in school. He really brought to life believable and subtle characters. John Ripa’s character in the original Tarzan animated film was truly an amazing performance and work of art!
Kala was animated by an artist from the Kala character team. This scene was cut from the sequel, as Tarzan 2 went through a major story overhaul.
My scribble of Pris from the original Bladerunner movie. Was watching Bladerunner on the plane from London, and sketching on the back of the inflight menu since my sketchbook was out of reach due to meal tray obstruction!
Throwback Thursday !
Been finding old artwork and animation from my early days as an animator at Disney! One of my first scenes as an animator. So long ago! This scene had a 15 foot panning background. I remember sitting there with it spread out in the hallway trying to recalculate the pegs so that I could animate this as a cycle and not across the 15 feet as it was originally laid out.
Throwback Thursday ! Some old storyboard sketches that I did when I directed a cinematic for Ubisoft ‘s Rayman Ravin Rabbids . Watch the cinematic here:
