Quiet Time 3/17
What am I feeling today?
A little worried, I know I start my week again tomorrow and I feel unprepared. I just wish I had more time to rest but then again I haven’t been letting myself rest even when I need it so it’s kinda my fault anyways.
Bible Plan: Spiritual Wilderness
Not only can we overcome our wilderness experiences, but also we can shorten them by the way we respond. Whenever we can’t control what happens around us, we must not fret about it. Instead, we need to control the only thing we can control, which is our response.
When we can’t control our circumstances, we can control our confession, attitude and response. How we react in the spiritual wilderness will determine how long we will stay there.
Israel’s wilderness time was not supposed to be forty years, but it was extended only because of their reaction to potential problems in the promised land.
Complaining prolongs your spiritual wilderness; confessing God’s Word shrinks it. Compare Jesus with Israel. His wilderness time lasted only forty days, not forty years. What did Jesus do in the wilderness? Well, He did not complain, He confessed God’s Word.
We usually don’t get to dominion right after deliverance without passing through a spiritual wilderness. We must learn to confess God’s Word while in the wilderness in order to see our wilderness come to an end. After Jesus spoke the Word in the wilderness, that period of temptation ended, and He entered into ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit.
I like this way of thinking about it, the way our journey goes in the spiritual desert does depend on lot on how we respond to it. Because some people can get overwhelmed and it becomes too much and they fall away. I think this is the case when one decided to depend on themselves instead of seeking counsel from God and others around them. I think the ones that stay faithful are those that immerse themselves and I found that’s been the case for me. When I’m away from disciples even for a week I feel isolated and I want to stay that way, I get too comfortable by myself but then my spiritual life takes a hit and I know that’s an attack from satan. So even when I’m not feeling it, I push myself to keep going because I know when I’m around others and talking through everything that’s been going on my life, I feel refreshed.
Luke 4:13-14 NIV
“When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.”
For reference, this was after Jesus was in the wilderness for forty days. What I like here is when the devil finished all this tempting, he left. I think that’s pretty cool, it’s like the verse that says resist the devil and he will flee from you. I like to think that he gets bored with us because we’re not doing his bidding anymore or falling for his schemes.
Numbers 14:34 NIV
“For forty years—one year for each of the forty days you explored the land—you will suffer for your sins and know what it is like to have me against you.’”
Imagine that. Imagine God being against you for forty years. Surely I tell you I would simply not survive, it would be impossible and it furthers my gratefulness to know that I do have Him (but also keep in mind that I have to remain obedient to Him).
Philippians 2:14-15 NIV
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky”
This doesn’t just apply to how we respond in the spiritual wilderness but in everything we do! He’s saying everything! When we do things without complaining, we become blameless and pure which is what God wants us to be. Trust me I know it can be hard and I’m guilty of grumbling, but consider everything a blessing because you’re still here and have the opportunity to do this all!

I often think about how Sara told Simon ‘it’s just school’ when she of all people should understand that it’s definitely ‘not just school’ when you’re getting bullied for something or another. Like, she’s traumatised from her own experience and now she’s in a better place she can’t relate anymore? Or she deflects because she doesn’t want to remember her own experience.
Emotions and feelings are complicated but I always get a little sad when I think about how little she emphasises with Simon in this situation.
(I want to have it known that I love Sara a lot and I can see why she acted the way the did most of the time, even tho I don’t approve of it, but it makes sense to me)

Quiet Time 4/17
What am I feeling today?
Honestly not much, I don’t feel any strong emotions today, just kinda chugging along and feeling really grateful for what God has done lately. Oh wait, actually, I felt pretty bummed out bc the Penguins are out of playoff spot since last night :/ so yeah, that really sucked for me🥲
The Prideful Soul’s Guide to Humility
‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭26‬:‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.”
showing that pride led to his downfall (a king) and he became afflicted with leprosy until the day he died.
2 Chronicles‬ ‭32‬:‭24‬-‭26‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. He prayed to the Lord, who answered him and gave him a miraculous sign. But Hezekiah’s heart was proud and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the Lord’s wrath was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem. Then Hezekiah repented of the pride of his heart, as did the people of Jerusalem; therefore the Lord’s wrath did not come on them during the days of Hezekiah.”
Pride is something that can bring about God’s wrath and it requires repentance!
Pride is the exact opposite of humility, and God's response to pride is the exact opposite of his response to humility.
What is pride?
It is almost always an attitude of self-sufficiency and independence ("I can handle this without help" or "I understand my situation better than anyone else").
It is often an attitude of self-righteousness ("I am at least as good as you are, probably better”).
It is sometimes an attitude of boastfulness ("Look what I did, and look what this proves I can do").
Its commonly an attitude of superiority ("My intellect is greater or my accomplishments are greater, or my looks are greater or something about me is greater").
Pride looks down on others. Pride does not listen well. It is stubborn. Pride is not eager to learn because it is confident in what it already knows. Pride is not quick to admit wrong because it fears it may look bad or lose its position. Pride is competitive and is easily threatened. Pride is insecure. Pride finds it hard to rejoice in the success of others.
Our biggest problem lies in taking it seriously. Far too many Christians still take pride too lightly
It is to Satan's credit how we have taken the sin that is the deepest and the most serious and have minimized and trivialized it. Before we will make much progress in becoming truly humble before God and each other, we must see the seriousness of our pride
What quality is most detested by God? What attitude of heart will always bring about a downfall? What character trait will ensure that there will be division? What quality cannot co- exist with love? Pride is the answer in each case
How is pride the root of other sins?
Sexual immorality: "I deserve to have my pleasure, and I should not have to worry about consequences."
Lying: "I do not trust that God can work through the truth. I have more confidence in my ability to deceive and to distort the facts."
Hatred: "I am better than you are, and I have a right to despise you for what you have done or what you are”
Rebellion: "I know better than my leaders, and I can accomplish better things by doing what I want to do."
Ignoring the needs of others: "My life is the most im- portant thing: accomplishing my goals, getting my pleasure, fulfilling my needs.”
Ingratitude: "I have what I have because I worked for it, or at least because I deserve it. Plus, there are other things that I deserve to have."
Disobedience: "I know the Bible says this, but I have a better way”
Discord: "I have no need for a relationship with you. I will be able to accomplish what I need to without unity.”
Prejudice and racism: "Those people just aren't as good as we are."
Where there is pride, there is no spirit of utter dependence on him.
Psalms‬ ‭10‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”
‭‭ Proverbs‬ ‭8‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.”
the prideful soul must be dealt with because it is so set against God ‭‭
Proverbs 16:5 NIV
“The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.”
