During the spring of 2020--pre-Covid spring, that is--Sunna and I were already laying the groundwork for our inevitable return to the Balkans. However due to post-Covid circumstances, it's only now that we were able to finally wander back down south to the sea, this time the Albanian Riviera.
While Sunna took the ferry from Italy to Albania, Alicja and I took what looked to be a fast and easy flight from Vienna. However, due to some delays at other airports, our plane was diverted to Aktion airport due to low fuel. This nearly three hour delay made it so that we missed the last ferry to Sarandë from Corfu. Alicja and I were luckily able to get the last two beds at a hostel in Corfu town where we bided our time until the morning ferries started up.
Rising bright and early and catching the bus to the port from outside of a conspicuous fur shop called "Ricco's Furs," we were able to get the morning ferry to Sarandë. Sarandë is only a 40-minute hydrofoil ferry ride from Corfu port, and so we quickly arrived at our Albanian destination. In Albania, we zoomed through customs and quickly found our Booking.com accommodation. Sunna met us while we lounged on the public beach, and the three musketeers were finally reunited for our Albanian vacation.
Our second day in Albania, we took a quick bus ride to Ksamil. This town is quite famous for its crystal clear blue water and the sandy beaches, as well as its view of two small islands not far off the coast. Here we lounged on some beach chairs, drank some (bad) Albanian beer, and tried not to get sunburnt. Coming from the US, it's so strange to me how smooth the waters are in the Mediterranean. There are barely any waves and the water is clear and somehow less salty than back home. As our day in Ksamil came to an end, we grabbed some burek and headed back to Sarandë for an evening meal of fish before bed.
The next day, we slept in before rolling down to a private beach near our booking. Most of our time on the Albanian coast could be best described as either lounging or eating. After dinner this day (more fish), we grabbed some cocktails and wandered over to Sarandë's most popping club to do a bit of dancing before heading inland the next morning. After not accepting a taxi driver's extortionate rate for a ride home, we may or may not have taken an illicit night time swim.
Our last morning in Sarandë was marked by the hotel owner banging on our door at 8 am to ask what time we were leaving--even though we already told them we'd leave at 10... We spent the early afternoon at the beach before catching the bus to Gjirokastër later that evening.

🇦🇱 Tales of Albania, Lake Koman & Blue Eye (07-2021) 🇦🇱 This is my last post from this trip! 💥 Statement: Last summer, I visited Albania with my sister @jsourire, and we instantly fell in love with its immensity and rawness. There is an instinctive sense of living that is reflected in the beauty of its urban and natural landscapes. In this photo-narrative, I will show some impressions from Tirana, Berat, Cape of Rodon, Shkoder, Theth - Valbona, Grunasi Waterfall, Blue Eye, Komani Lake, Ksamil, Gjirokastra, and Blue Eye (Sarandë). The images work as a testimony and also as a personal diary of this trip. Traveling is still my main inspiration to create, and I like to think that by sharing these tales with the world, I'm spreading the message of the Latin Phrase: Carpe Diem. * * * 💥Remember to follow @popsonality for Pop Culture! 💥 #albania #tirana #sarandë #blueeye #shqiperia #prishtina #albanian #durres #shqip #shqiperi #tirane #shqipe #love #visitalbania #albaniangirl #shqiptar #vlore #shkoder #ferizaj #tayna #streetphotography #ksamil #vlora #streetphotographer #caboderodon #capeofrodon #lakekoman #komanilake #berat #theth (en Komani Lake, Albania) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc6BxRloMB0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Aurrrr update on Sandri by the way. So he assisted with crazy deal between this like huge drug boss in Britain shipping his stuff to Albania. He found/hired the girls to move it. And anyways he got €40,000 from it and now he’s bought an apartment in sarandë and he’s gonna buy a bar too. And he’s got another big deal coming up where he’s gonna get €100,000 💀 so he’s like calling me saying he’s gonna put me on a direct flight to Tirana. Den the craziest shopping spree in Rome.😍
