The focus of interest on Flickr today seems to be my photos of the Temple of Apollo at Didyma. A renowned oracle of the ancient world.
The photo shows the temple wall, with the pronaos to the left. The adyton was at the far end of the temple.

These rock stacks are volcanic. The beginnings of Etna, they were pushed up from the sea floor. So, contrary to the story from Homer's Odyssey, they were not rocks thrown after Odysseus and his men by the cyclops. I recently finished listening to the Emily Wilson translation of the Odyssey read by Claire Danes. It was captivating. I highly recommend it. Especially the chapter detailing this misadventure. #experiencesicily #sicily #acitrezza #etna #mountetna #theodyssey #ionian #sicilia #italy #italia (at Acitrezza) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClKwaU8spX4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Corfu - History
I’m reading a book called “1821 – The Founding of Modern Greece”.
I read a story today about the first Lord High Commissioner to be appointed to Corfu, Sir Thomas Maitland. It was during his time as High Commissioner that the town of Parga, on the mainland opposite Corfu, was sold by the British to Ali Pasha, the tyrant of Ioannina.
