finished braiger a few days ago!!

okay. this show is wild bc it starts out really fun and interesting, but then the main writer had to leave in the middle of it so there's a rut in there and it's dull....but then the last like 15 eps REALLY pick up and like. yeah this is good.

like the premise of a more adult mecha show with main characters that are tough ass mercs who fuck, drink and murder while also being really funny and having their own code of honor is great, and like it gets used in the first 10 and last 15 eps to nice effect!

the show kinda loses its bluster by the middle bc the main writer kinda wasn't available to do that part so we get a bunch of mid ass eps by other dudes and it almost made me drop it, but then it REALLY picked up when khamen khamen got introduced so it's okay. he's an all timer mecha villain like. mf is smart as fuck and gangster as hell. he ALWAYS wins and you don't get frustrated over it bc like....it really makes sense? and he's really entertaining to watch.

anyways I LOVE the J9 gang they are all just this serious professional russian dude with a whip, and his three horny cunty ass funny idiot mercs. they REALLY carry the show when it focuses on them bc their chemistry is amazing and the VAs evidently had a lot of fun playing them.

the animation and designs are....pretty outdated and janky even for the time, but the concept is so strong and the directing, music and writing try SO hard in the better eps that you can't help but cheer for it when it's good. like i get why the show became so popular, esp with high school and college girls....and why it got swept by the other 80s stuff. but like. damn i'm just happy this wasn't a waste. like the middle part had me disheartened but i came out REALLY liking this one.

like at its best it's just a really fun and charming show with a great cast and premise. also the J9 gang is all hot funny ass people so that's a bonus. it's a good show. also the finale arc is incredibly fucking insane and deranged, it was A RIDE

also this show apparently was the first one to use "otaku" in anime? AND also had the first sex scene in a primetime anime show. wild stuff.

i did hear the main writer learned from braiger and did most of baxingar and sasuraiger so i think those two will be more consistent!

like honestly with the caveat that it becomes a bit dull and slow in the middle, i would say this was a fun watch. i love braiger!! it's a good show!! i'm glad that it used its potential AND glad to be part of the legion of women who love it.

also btw yun kouga started out making BL doujins for this show lmao

Episode 43: Nice Day For A Rushed Wedding

Yeah! That is what is on the victor visual board along with the signature. A rock band plays to celebrate the occasion. A reporter reports on how everyone is celebrating as we FINALLY see Bloody God in a regular skin tone, displeased. Lock and IC discuss something only for Birdy to interrupt. Furuza casually whistles while carrying his gun in a violin case. On top of the big visual board he coughs and assembles his gun- Why do some of these frames look dark? But yeah, photos are taken with our heroes as he assembles his gun and aims for IC- Oh hey the episode title. The crowd starts jumping in as Bloody God is still miffed. Beat gets his hat shot off by Furuza who then fires randomly into the crowd. He gets a lock on Lock, but accidentally gets Bloody God by mistake. Furuza coughs blood and Lock uses the J9-3 to fly up, allowing him to drop down only to spot Furuza's rifle and blood. The next day Joanna talks to them about how the Bloody Syndicate is finished. A cloud overcasts through the window and Birdy mentions Furuza, angering Lock. The ckoud overcast goes across the city followed by Beat saying they should be happy. Some more banter, likely involving the bet money. Petit barges in saying Jimmy and Susie found a place to marry, embarrassing them both. IC and Joanna congratulate them. At dusk Bloody God recovers- Yeah, I can safely say he's based on Charles Bronson. His goons talk in another room about how Double J9 fucked them over so they suggest revenge for dissolving the Bloody Syndicate. One guy gets angry enough to throw a briefcase of money to the ground. They eventually head off in black cars. Susie shops for a wedding dress as her and Jimmy's parents find them. Before they can run off the Bloody Syndcate tugs open machine gun fire. Susie is kidnapped in the fray and Jimmy tries following via motorcycle he steals from a random guy. Joanna gets a call from the gangsters.

Eye catch.

At a harbor the thugs have Susie hostage, guns pointed at her while she's on the floor. She won't surrender and lead gangster breaks his wine glass like his boss. Soon after that Jimmy comes through a window and uses a chain to bash two of them in the head. Gun fire breaks out, eventually he gets shot in the left arm. Furuza shows up to kill the remaining two- How did Susie get back to her normal outfit!? But yeah, he tells the two to leave while he finds Lock. He looks up at the sky knowing he will die soon and waits for Lock. The team waits to come up with a plan, Beat is bored and Lockconsiders confrontation. Jimmy and Susie show up all soaked- Wait it wasn't raining. Jimmy tells Lock Furuza wants him as Susie bandages him up. IC talks to Lock- Oh it IS raining! Lock says something about how he must finish this himself as lightning flashes. An insert song plays as Furuza waits on a boat in choppy water and fucking yikes this is dragged out. Lock shows up via speed boat. I'll give the animators credit for trying to make it effective despite scene recycling. Both reach for their guns in still frames and in a flash of lightning its over. Both of them hit each other, but Furuza does not survive his shot as he says goodbye and goes into the water. Bloody Syndicate goons attempt to ambush Lock only for J9-3 to show up so he can escape. The thugs fire their guns on speed boats only to get missile'd followed by their helicopter being rammed into. That morning doves fly by as the wedding occurs in a nearby church. Jimmy gives Susie the ring and they both kiss. Suddenly mobsters storm into the church, surrounding everyone. Before a shot can be fired Bloody God shows up telling his men to step down as he talks to Lock. He gives Lock the money via a.... diploma? Everyone goes Yay as rock music plays celebrating the happy ending. After the narrator gets his say we have brief montages of all three J9 teams not unlike the end of Shaider. END.
