Designing the Perfect Outdoor Building Sign for Your Business
In today's competitive market, outdoor signage is an indispensable asset for any commercial business. An effective outdoor building sign not only attracts potential customers but also communicates your brand identity and core values. Whether you're looking for vibrant color schemes or minimalist designs, creating an impactful outdoor sign is crucial to your business's visibility and success. In this blog, we will guide you through the process of designing the perfect outdoor building sign for your commercial enterprise.
Why Outdoor Building Signs Matter
Outdoor building signs for business serve as a vital marketing tool. They're often the first impression customers get of your business and can significantly influence their decision to enter your establishment. According to studies, nearly 60% of consumers say that they have tried a new business because of its signage. This statistic highlights the importance of having high-quality outdoor building signs for your business.
Essential Elements of a Great Outdoor Sign
When designing your sign, consider the following essential elements:
1. Clarity and Readability: Your message should be clear at a glance. Choose fonts that are easy to read and avoid overly complex designs. Ensure that your sign can be understood quickly, even from a distance.
2. Size and Location: The size of your sign should be proportional to the building and the amount of space available. Also, consider its location. A sign placed where traffic and foot traffic can see it ensures maximum exposure.
3. Brand Consistency: Your sign should reflect your business's brand identity. Use colors, logos, and fonts that are consistent with your branding to create a cohesive look that resonates with your audience.
4. Materials Matter: Choose weather-resistant materials that can withstand the elements, such as acrylic, aluminum, or wood. The right material will ensure your sign looks great year-round.
5. Lighting: Proper lighting can enhance visibility at night. Consider illuminated options or external lighting sources that highlight your sign after dark.
Custom Made Signs for Business
Investing in custom made signs for your business allows you to dictate exactly how you want your brand to be represented. Custom signs can range from illuminated displays to dimensional letters and more. When opting for custom signage, work closely with experienced designers who understand commercial business signs and can bring your vision to life.
Local Regulations and Permits
Before finalizing any design, be sure to check local regulations regarding business signage. Many municipalities require permits and have specific guidelines regarding size, lighting, and placement. Understanding these regulations can save you time and prevent costly alterations down the line?
Exploring Options: Commercial Signs Near Me
To find the best solutions for your business's outdoor building sign, look for commercial signs near you. Local signage companies can provide valuable insight and often have a range of options tailored to your needs. Additionally, collaborating with local experts means you can easily visit their facilities, discuss your ideas, and see samples of their work in person.
Designing the perfect outdoor building sign for your business is not just about aesthetics; it's about functionality, visibility, and the impression you leave on potential customers. Whether you're creating custom made signs for business or sourcing commercial business signs from local suppliers, every element counts. By focusing on clarity, brand consistency, quality materials, and compliance with local regulations, your outdoor sign can become a powerful marketing tool that effectively communicates your brand to the public.
Take the time to invest in a well-designed outdoor building sign, and watch as it transforms your business's visibility and appeal to customers in your area. Remember, your sign is more than just a sign—it's your first impression. Make it count!

SAT coaching in UAE will allow the aspirants to interact with the best SAT trainers and this, in turn, will help them to master the SAT exam. Therefore, students should look for an institute will specialized training which will suit their needs, and one which guarantees high scores.
Know more about the SAT exam
Before getting into your SAT preparation, it is important to get familiar with the SAT exam itself.
What is the SAT exam?
The College Board conductsSAT or Scholastic Aptitude Test and it tries to measure the natural talent for learning in a student. This standardized test is known widely in the United States for college admissions. It is a multiple-choice exam and it is a pen-and-pencil test. High scores in the SAT exam creates more options for attending college as well as scholarships.
Eligibility
There are no hard and fast rules for this SAT exam as per the College Board criteria. Students who want to do their undergraduate studies abroad appear for SAT exam. As any SAT preparation institute will tell you, there is no age limit for this exam. Generally, students of age 17-19 appear in this test.
SAT exam pattern
There are two main sections for this exam- Evidence-based Reading and Writing, and Math. These two sections are further subdivided into two sections each. The SAT exam also has an essay section of 50 minutes. The math portion is divided into two parts- one where students can use a calculator and one without a calculator. SAT exam with the essay will take about 3 hours and 50 minutes.
What is the right time to join SAT coaching in UAE?
There is no specific time to start preparing for the SAT. Students generally take the exam after finishing high school, so each student has a different plan for their SAT preparation strategy. An average student can clear the exam if he or she continues with SAT preparation for three to four months.
What are the pros and cons of SAT online Classes and SAT offline classes?
SAT online classes-
The fee for the SAT exam Is not that great, but the results and their impact are immense. Below, we discuss some pros and cons of the online and offline mode of SAT preparation.
Pros of SAT Online classes in SAT preparation
The first and most important advantage of online classes in SAT preparation is convenience. This advantage is both for the student as well as the teacher. The student gets to manage his or her own time.
When the student opts for online SAT classes, they can receive guidance for long or short periods, all according to their need. If need be the teachers can establish communication with the parents of the students and counsel them on effective ways of progress for their child.
In today’s economic situations, the cost of an online tutor is slightly less than the offline options. The lower costs also make the option of SAT online classes more viable.
Cons of SAT online classes
There is a risk of getting in line with a lower quality of teaching. The price can be an indicative factor in this matter.
Less face-to-face time does have an impact. Through online classes, the teachers may not get a good understanding of the student’s weak points.
There is the chance of false accreditation, so before you choose online training, make sure that you check out the SAT preparation institute that you want to get into. Also, when attending classes, the student can get distracted easily.
Pros of SAT offline classes
The old traditional methods of teaching also have some advantages. People believe that teachers may pay more attention to the students in an offline setting. Students in turn would have fewer distractions and would perhaps focus more on studies. There will be more chances of interaction between students and teachers. The exchanges of ideas that take place in real-time have a beneficial aspect that cannot be underestimated.
Disadvantages of SAT offline classes
While choosing offline classes for SAT preparation, is going to be a waste of time as well as resources. The student might have saved upon the time of travel and expense, had he settled for the offline mode of SAT coaching. There is no such customization in Offline teaching to a great extent, it is not an independent method of learning.

Shipping Chocolate Shoes, as seen on Channel 5
Please don’t Melt!
If you're wondering how we shipped over 100 Cocoa To Thrill Chocolate Shoes into the desert - we're here for you!
Tumblr media
"People Deliver Chocolate All Over The World...Right?"
When we received the call asking us to bring our Cocoa To Thrill Chocolate Shoes  to Arab Fashion Week, we did a little dance and jumped for joy. Arabia, how exotic, how beautiful, how…hot! In our chocolate celebration we neglected to consider the challenge ahead of us. In an attempt to comfort ourselves we placated ourselves with this “People deliver chocolate all over the world right, we can do this”. At this point we had no idea whether chocolate had ever been imported into Dubai or indeed who had ever done it.
We weren’t just taking bars of chocolate either, we were taking delicate, fragile, beautiful yes but extremely fragile chocolate shoes into the dessert. It wasn’t going to be easy, especially since our precious cargo hadn’t even been out of London let alone 4639.5 miles away.
Being the mavericks that we are, lead by an unperturbed boss lady, we ventured into the unknown and began lovingly producing our chocolate masterpieces one by one. We fielded countless questions about how we were going to make sure it wasn’t going to melt by smiling through the insanity, “People deliver chocolate all over the world” became our mantra, not chocolate shoes mind, but stop picking holes in our plan.
Channel 5's, The Wonderful World of Chocolate, watches the whole ordeal
This task in front of us was similar to when Richard Branson decides to do another epic but dangerous adventure. We love Richard Branson, so why not. However we added a little more danger into the mix when
Channel 5 contacted us and said they wanted to film us on this dangerous adventure, we did another chocolate dance, paused to think, “what if we can’t do it” and then relished the thrill, this was going to be more than a hot balloon ride.
Tumblr media
Researching the problem with no time...
The research into how we were actually going to get over 100 chocolate shoes to Dubai didn’t actually start until most of the chocolate shoes for Fashion Week were completed. Some might see this as slightly risky business move, but don’t forget the mantra.
Our first thought was to put our chocolate shoes on a refrigerated plane, “they have those right?”. Tah dah, we’ve solved it. Of course, it’s not that simple. Access to resources on how to get our chocolate shoes onto a refrigerated plane was limited and no one was really able to tell us how exactly to do it. Shipping companies like Fed Ex and DHL provide this service but they expect you to be a massive company shipping huge refrigerated shipments a month, “Oh, that’s how people deliver chocolate all over the world”. We found that being a bespoke, small but perfectly formed company was not the best outfit to get international shipping done. Worst of all it took weeks to get to this conclusion, countless phone calls and dead ends and guess what, fashion week was only 2 weeks away. In our defence we only had 5 weeks to get over 100 chocolate shoes to Dubai, another chocolate madness we will save for another blog.
Work it out in an Uber
It was 10 days to go and our team was zipping to Chelsea in an Uber. We had to shoot an advert for the big screen at Fashion Week. We had only had 3 days to work on this, (another blog). Channel 5 were coming to film us and we still hadn’t found a plan to get over 100 shoes to the desert without melting. You’d think we’d be a little stressed. Our girl boss, Samona Williams,  loves a list, and she had a very long one in that Uber. The strategy was to phone as many third-party shipping companies as possible until someone could do it. Apparently she learnt this strategy from Bill Gates. She said, “It’s simple maths, you can try a 100 and get 100 no’s but 101th call will say yes."
Tumblr media
Ten minutes away, fielding anxious calls from cast and crew and around 5 calls in, we got our answer. Thank you chocolate angels. You see, we had been approaching things a little too over the top, as is our general mood here at Cocoa To Thrill. Neil, the amazing refrigerated shipping expert at
Rhenus Logistics Liverpool
told us that we didn’t actually need to go on a refrigerated plane. Made sense, chocolate isn’t actually refrigerated, in fact the ideal temperature for our chocolate shoes and any chocolate for that matter is 12-15 degrees. “Oh, so we need temperature controlled, sounds expensive”. For those wondering, temperature controlled shipping does exist and usually used for medicines and can be temperature controlled within the degree in special boxes. These shipments are usually small and yes,  it is expensive. You can find out more here.
Thankfully Neil was a little more practical in his approach. Gel packs. “Gel packs? No surely they can’t keep the shipment cold enough in the dessert.” And further anxiety inducing in this conversation is that the shipment could not be delivered to the UAE in a day, as we had previously thought, it actually would take three days. Three days, surviving with just gel packs, impossible.
5 minutes to the ad shoot, the director can’t get into to the Fort Knox secure location (we’d tell you who lives there but we can’t). The rest of the crew are looking for props and we talking about gel packs and what seems like the longest shipping time in the world. Luckily for us, Neil was wise and experienced. He explained that the chocolate had to be packed a certain way and with the right amount of gel packs our chocolate shoes could easily be kept cold for three days, “I won’t tell you 100% they are not going to melt, but I haven’t had many casualties”. Thanks Neil super encouraging.
Neil Says
"To be honest the UK side wasn’t an issue and never worried me.  We made it clear to transport how fragile the shipment was and that we needed to handle with super care and attention. My main concern was initially the heat in Dubai.  We send shipments to Dubai pretty much on a weekly basis.  Most will travel frozen and we will pack with additional coolants to combat the extensive heat.  I then saw that all chocolate shoes were handmade with fancy decorations and pearls attached.  Upon looking at Cocoa’s Website I quickly realised how difficult the job in had was going to be.  I literally didn’t sleep for the next few days!"
In business, you have to take a certain amount of risk, especially when there’s no choice and your pulling into the gates of the filming location to the expectant faces of the crew. The Uber driver looks at us expectantly. “Oh we have to get out here? We’ll do it Neil”. This is how it went down. We jumped out of the car and were faced with the whole new problem of getting all the shots we needed, with no time, a channel 5 crew and the wrong lighting kit. If you’re interested to see how the ad turned out, click here.
Tumblr media
How Do You Wrap and Package Chocolate Shoes?
Of course, the story didn’t end with a frenzied shoot day. Once we wrapped we realised that no-one had dealt with the fragility of shipping chocolate shoes. Chocolate yes, but chocolate shoes, that have delicate temperaments, no. We set about packing and packaging. There were reems of bubble wrap, there were late nights and disgusting stale sandwiches. There were kind family members and polystyrene beads in our hair,  all the time.
Tumblr media
Refrigerated Chocolate Truck!
We worked like crazy and Neil sent us an amazing temperature controlled truck to pick up our very well wrapped chocolate shoes just 6 days before we were due to fly to Dubai. Channel 5 were on hand to shoot the whole heart wrenching experience, “It’s great telly”. Off  our precious chocolate shoes went rattling along the m25 to our pattering heartbeats.
Tumblr media
The truck made its way on a 4 hour 20 minute journey, 207.6 miles to Manchester to meet Neil. There , our chocolate shoes bound for Arab Fashion Week in Dubai were packed with their gel packs on palettes. Once they were all packed up the shipment was huge, it weighed 54 kilos, which in shipping terms is not that much but the volume was over 190 kilos. Over 100 shoes went on a large shipping palette and an extra-large shipping box.
Neil Says
“After much discussions between myself and Cocoa To Thrill, I came up with a good idea to keep the chocolate in layers and separate each leg on the pallet with stanchions to give the pallet some strength and the chocolate would not be touching each other and the weight of the top layers not sat on the bottom layers which can cause unwanted damages.  Unfortunately the shipment came in much larger than anticipated.  Initially I thought it was an impossible take but once I had a few moments to take it all in and have a think I realised we had some box pallets in stock which enabled me to pack the shipment ready to export.  The chocolate shoes were already packed quite well by Samona and her team, a lot of time and effort from both companies have clearly gone into the packing of these very fragile shoes.  It allowed me to pack and separate into one large box pallet.  Shipment was packed and coolants placed on the top of the pallet to keep the chocolate nice and cool while in transit and more importantly when the shipment arrived into Dubai.”
Tumblr media
This is how you ship chocolate
Our gorgeous and brave chocolate shoes  were packed in a matter of hours, with a whole lot of gel packs,  at a temperature of between 2-8 degrees Celsius and before we knew it, they were on their way to get on their first plane to Germany. Honestly it was like sending kids for their first day of school, excruciating, but you know you have to be brave. In these situations, it’s not a good idea to wonder if all your hard work will melt or break. Our Chocolate Executive Officer (CEO) was having none of it. There was packing to do, outfits to choose, press releases to write. There was no room for “If the shoes get there”, it was simply “when”.
To help with the heat, customs clearance was completed while our chocolate shoes were sat in Germany. We loved the forward thinking. What we didn’t love however was the fact that our chocolate shoes were split up in Germany. Only half of them arrived in Dubai while the others were stuck in Germany. If you’ve ever been separated from a loved one, you will know the sheer panic the was filling the office. Neil was as chill as the box they were travelling in. “Don’t worry” he assured us, “this happens all the time”. To this day we are not quite sure if this is true or whether there was a calm duck frantically treading water beneath the surface kind of situation but thankfully, the next day, the two boxes were reunited in Dubai. The refresh button on the tracking  browser was a little overused during those nail biting 8 hours.
Tumblr media
It was heart wrenching, nail biting, chocolate madness all captured by Channel 5 for you all to enjoy. Thankfully our beautiful chocolate shoes arrived in Dubai without melting and not one breakage. "People deliver chocolate all over the world, right". Chocolate magic thinking, isn’t that something.
Tumblr media
We will be posting the  the moment we realised the chocolate shoes were ok  for your viewing pleasure. In the meantime you can watch the whole ordeal on Channel 5, The Wonderful World of Chocolate, Sunday 28th July, 9pm. It will also be available on catch up here after 28th July 2019.Thank you to the team at Rhenus Logistics and Neil, you’re one cool dude.

Boost Your Child's Math Skills with After-School Math Classes in Abu Dhabi
In a rapidly evolving educational landscape, mastering math has become more important than ever. For many pupils, math may be a difficult subject with complicated ideas and problem-solving abilities. However, with the right support, every child has the potential to excel in mathematics. Enrolling your child in after-school math classes in Abu Dhabi can provide them with the extra guidance and practice they need to enhance their mathematical abilities. These classes help in understanding the curriculum and prepare them for future academic challenges such as SAT preparation and other standardized tests.
The Importance of After-School Math Classes
1. Reinforcement of Classroom Learning: After-school math lessons in Abu Dhabi offer students an opportunity to reinforce what they learn during the school day. Sometimes, classroom instruction moves too quickly for students to grasp complex concepts fully, and after-school math help can fill those gaps. These sessions provide for in-depth investigation of topics, giving students the opportunity to ask questions and clarify their understanding.
2. Personalized Attention: In a traditional classroom setting, teachers often have to divide their attention among many students, which can leave some kids struggling to keep up. After-school math classes typically have smaller class sizes, providing a more personalized approach. This environment allows instructors to focus on students' strengths and weaknesses, creating tailored lessons to meet each child's needs.
3. Preparation for Standardized Tests: Many students in Abu Dhabi aim to excel in standardized tests like the SAT, which includes a significant math component. Engaging in SAT math help in UAE can be instrumental in helping high school students prepare for college admissions. After-school math classes can prepare students for the types of problems they will encounter on these tests, boosting their confidence and scores.
4. Developing Critical Thinking Skills: Math is not just about numbers; it develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills. After-school math programs often focus on teaching strategies for approaching complex problems, encouraging students to think critically and creatively. These abilities are critical for academic performance and useful in everyday life.
5. Flexible Scheduling: One of the primary benefits of after-school math lessons is the flexibility they provide. Working parents frequently struggle to organize homework help after a full day at work. After-school programs can accommodate busy schedules, allowing students to participate in their math education without adding stress to family routines.
Finding the Right After-School Math Classes in Abu Dhabi
When searching for suitable after-school math help for your child, consider the following factors to ensure you select the best program:
1. Qualified Instructors: Look for classes led by experienced educators who are well-versed in teaching math. Instructors should have a deep understanding of the curriculum and experience in working with students at various levels.
2. Curriculum and Focus Areas: Consider the curriculum used in the after-school classes. This should align with your child's school syllabus and should also prepare them for future academic challenges. If your child needs specific assistance, such as algebra, geometry, or SAT prep, ensure the program offers targeted lessons in those areas.
3. Engaging Learning Environment: Math can be a daunting subject for many students, so it's essential for after-school classes to foster an engaging and positive atmosphere. Look for programs emphasizing hands-on learning and using interactive tools to make math fun and relatable.
4. Reviews and Testimonials: Consult testimonials from other parents and students to gauge the effectiveness of a particular program. Hearing about other families' experiences can provide valuable insights into how well a class can support your child's learning needs.
5. Trial Classes: Many after-school math programs offer trial classes. These allow your child to experience the instructional style and atmosphere before committing to a longer course.
Investing in after-school math classes can significantly boost your child's math skills and confidence. With options for personalized attention, reinforcement of classroom learning, and preparation for tests like the SAT, these programs can be instrumental in a child's academic journey. Parents in Abu Dhabi have access to various excellent after-school math classes catering to different learning styles and objectives. By choosing the right program, you're not just helping your child improve in math but equipping them with essential skills that will serve them throughout their education and beyond. Don't wait—enroll your child in after-school math classes today and watch them thrive!

How Can Financial Experts Be So Stupid? — MSNBC & Axios #FAIL On @Tesla
Cars
Published on October 1st, 2018 | by Zachary Shahan
October 1st, 2018 by Zachary Shahan
I follow two things very closely — cleantech and US politics. I consider the latter a civic duty, but seldom weave it into my work. I listen to segments from many sources across the political spectrum and read articles across the political spectrum. I love MSNBC’s coverage because it is generally so good at cutting through the noise, digging into the topics that matter the most (imho), and calling B.S. what it is — B.S.
However, MSNBC doesn’t know cleantech. In fact, it has disturbed me to see how much some of its cleantech coverage (which is minimal in the first place) throws sensible logic and facts out the window in order to smear Tesla and Elon Musk. I’ve complained before about their lack of knowledge about the solar market and solar policies as well, and I’ve seen enough snide, stupid comments about Tesla and Elon Musk that I just typically skip over the Elon videos. However, I accidentally hit play on one today — holy shit was it disturbing.
Update: If you feel inspired, you can tweet this to MSNBC & Stephanie Ruhle.
Below are 10+ insanely stupid claims and insinuations made by MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle (who I love on other topics) and this segment’s guest, Axios Chief Financial Correspondent Felix Salmon. Again, I find Axios to be a great source of political reporting, so it disturbs me how horrid this guy’s understanding of Tesla and basic business is.
1. The first problem is that they jump right in with an implication that Elon Musk and Tesla were guilty and $20 million isn’t a big enough fine for them! They did not note that Elon Musk did not admit guilt (and that was reportedly one reason he didn’t agree to the initial settlement). They did not even note that it was up for debate. The framing started with the presumption that Elon Musk and Tesla were guilty of something, and something very bad.
2. They also assume the rejection of the initial settlement offer was idiotic, without acknowledging that Elon Musk did not want to lie to himself and others and admit guilt (and did not have to admit guilt in the eventual settlement). Perhaps it was an effort to call the SEC’s bluff, given how extreme and unusual the SEC’s attack on Musk and Tesla was. Stephanie Ruhle and Felix Salmon do not mention any of this, which I think is idiotic if you actually want to discuss what happened and why it happened like it did.
3. The Axios reporter claims Tesla never made a profit — which is not true. Tesla reported a quarterly profit back in 2013.
4. Stephanie Ruhle gets on what seems like a resentful high horse and claims that Tesla’s vehicles don’t make money. They make a ton of money. In fact, the Model 3 pulled in more revenue than any other car in the US in August (and surely again in September). Tesla makes a lot of money on each car it sells, but it has long been putting that money into faster growth. It could have been profitable with the Model S years ago and just sat on that or slowly grown. Instead, it put all profits plus some extra cash into developing and bringing to mass production the Model X, Model 3, and batteries for other projects at Gigafactory 1, the largest battery factory in the world and the second largest building in the world (already). It has also put money into developing the Model Y, Tesla Semi, next-generation Tesla Roadster, and surely much more. This is really not a complicated or difficult thing to understand, yet Ruhle and Salmon act as if it is an invisible, irrelevant point and don’t even come close to bringing it up.
Frankly, it’s totally idiotic to a) pretend Tesla doesn’t make money on its cars and 2) isn’t pumping that money into rapid growth, growth that has already led to it going from 0 mass produced cars to a rate of ~200,000–300,000 a year in just ~6 years!
5. The Axios reported goes even further and claims Tesla hasn’t been able to build cars. What?!?!?!?! The Tesla Model 3 was the 5th best selling car in terms of units in August, and possibly ranked higher in September! Tesla is passing up Jaguar and Porsche in terms of annual production. It produced more cars in August than every other luxury carmaker! “Hasn’t been able to build cars?” He should be fired on the spot for such an inane comment.
6. His next line: “He’s made almost no cars over the 10 years or so that Tesla’s been in existence.” So. Much. Stupid. Seriously? The company in just 6 years has crushed every other automaker in the production of electric cars and is now crushing luxury automakers on the whole in their bread & butter luxury car markets. My brain cannot even fathom how someone who is supposedly an expert on Tesla can make such a stupid comment on national television.
7. He also claims that every time Elon Musk makes a promise, he fails to deliver on it. Obviously, people and institutional investors who have Tesla valuation at a cool $53 billion don’t think Elon Musk fails to deliver. Obviously, hundreds of thousands of owners and millions of will-be-owners see that Elon Musk delivers very well. Also, as we’ve shown recently, some of his forecasts from years ago appear to now be spot on. Maybe Felix should read CleanTechnica with an open mind and learn a thing or 300,000.
For more on these topics, take a moment to check out these posts:
Elon Musk’s 2015 Tesla Forecasts Compared To Today — The Future Looks Bright
If A Tesla Pattern Has Emerged, What Does That Mean For Model 3?
Is Tesla Model 3 Actually On Original Schedule?
Is Tesla Ever Late? No, Not Really.
Tesla Executes
8. Stephanie Ruhle then chimed in to drop another lie, or at least misleading statement. She indicated that Elon said the company was going private. Nope. He specifically wrote that he was considering taking Tesla private.
9. She also mentioned that “competitors” were “getting cars out there.” What competitors? What cars? She obviously doesn’t know what she’s talking about and why Tesla doesn’t yet have any genuine competitors.
10. Felix decided then that he hadn’t been ridiculously out of touch with reality enough earlier in the interview and decided to say that Elon has a crazy, narrow, short-term obsession. Huh? What? The dude is one of the most long-term, visionary thinkers and doers of our age, of modern society. This guy wants to say that Elon is the one too focused on short-term matters?
I’m sure I could keep going, but I had to turn the video off. It got too absurd. As I was turning it off, the clueless reporter from Axios was saying that Elon told the SEC he chose $420 as the going-private price because he was trying to impress his girlfriend with a weed joke. There were several things wrong about that statement. Elon got to $419 based on math. Because it was so close to $420 and 420 is a popular term for jokes due to its connection with weed (and he loves jokes — not weed, which hurts productivity), he decided to round up to $420. It wasn’t the real basis of the price, and it definitely wasn’t to impress his girlfriend. Ugh. I am disappointed that I accidentally clicked play on the video and had to sit through that disturbing nonsense. It’s as bad as the stuff I’ve seen on Fox News about other matters.
I expect MSNBC to be better than Fox News on everything, not just politics & the overall economy. Come on, Stephanie.

SALALAH, Oman  | Powerful cyclone lashes Oman, Yemen; 5 dead, 30 missing

SALALAH, Oman  | Powerful cyclone lashes Oman, Yemen; 5 dead, 30 missing
SALALAH, Oman  — Cyclone Mekunu blew into the Arabian Peninsula early Saturday, drenching arid Oman and Yemen, cutting off power lines and leaving at least five people dead and more than 30 missing, officials said.
Portions of Salalah, Oman’s third-largest city, lost electricity as the cyclone made landfall. The Arabian Sea churned Saturday morning, sending mounds of sea foam into the air. The waves ate into one tourist beach, pulling hunks of it away and toppling thatch umbrellas cemented into the sand.
As Mekunu barreled overhead, the eye of the storm provided a moment’s respite. At one luxury hotel, which already had evacuated its guests, workers sat down early for “suhoor,” a meal Muslims eat before sunrise during the holy fasting month of Ramadan. They laughed and shared plates by flashlight in a darkened ballroom, the cyclone’s wind a dull roar behind their clatter.
Three people, including a 12-year-old girl, died in Oman, and another two bodies were recovered from the Yemeni island of Socotra, which bore the brunt of the storm, according to local officials in both countries. More than 30 people were still missing in Socotra, including Yemeni, Indian and Sudanese nationals.
Yemeni officials also reported damage in the country’s far east, along the border with Oman. Rageh Bakrit, the governor of al-Mahra province, said on his official Twitter account late Friday that strong winds had blown down houses and taken out communication lines and water services. He did not say whether there were any casualties.
India’s Meteorological Department said the storm packed maximum sustained winds of 170-180 kilometers (105-111 miles) per hour with gusts of up to 200 kph (124 mph). It called the cyclone “extremely severe.”
Across Salalah, branches and leaves littered the streets. Several underpasses became standing lakes. Some cars were left abandoned on the road. Electrical workers began trying to repair lines in the city while police and soldiers in SUVs patrolled the streets. On the outskirts of the city, near the Salalah International Airport, what once was a dry creek bed had become a raging river.
Many holidaymakers fled the storm Thursday night before the airport closed. The Port of Salalah — a key gateway for the country — also closed, its cranes secured against the pounding rain.
Omani forecasters warned Salalah and the surrounding area would get at least 200 millimeters (7.87 inches) of rain, over twice the city’s annual downfall. Authorities remained worried about flash flooding in the area’s valleys and potential mudslides down its nearby cloud-shrouded mountains.
A sizable police presence fanned out across the city, the hometown of Oman’s longtime ruler Sultan Qaboos bin Said. Many officers rode in Royal Oman Police SUVs with chicken wire over the windows, likely because their other vehicles weren’t tall enough to maneuver through the floodwater.
“Of course, for the citizen there is going to be a sense of fear of the consequences that can happen,” said Brig. Gen. Mohsin bin Ahmed al-Abri, the commander of Dhofar governorate’s police. “We have been through a few similar cases and there were losses in properties and also in human life as well. But one has to take precautions and work on that basis.”
As torrential rains poured down on Friday, authorities opened schools to shelter those whose homes are at risk. About 600 people, mostly laborers, huddled at the West Salalah School, some sleeping on mattresses on the floors of classrooms, where math and English lesson posters hung on the walls.
Shahid Kazmi, a worker from Pakistan’s Kashmir region, told The Associated Press that police moved him and others to the school. He said he was a bit scared adding: “God willing, we are safe here.”
On Socotra, authorities relocated over 230 families to sturdier buildings and other areas, including those more inland and in the island’s mountains, Yemeni security officials said.
Flash floods engulfed Socotra streets, cutting electricity and communication lines. Some humanitarian aid from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates arrived on the island just hours after the cyclone receded.
Socotra Gov. Ramzy Mahrous said one ship sank and two others ran aground in the storm, initially saying authorities believed 17 people were missing and presumed dead.
Yemen’s self-exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi issued a statement ordering troops under his command on the island to help citizens, deliver supplies and reopen roads.
The island, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, has been the focus of a dispute between the UAE and Yemen’s internationally recognized government, which are ostensibly allied against Shiite rebels known as Houthis.
Socotra has a unique ecosystem and is home to rare plants, snails and reptiles that can be found nowhere else on the planet.

Dubai, UAE: A Dubai-based government initiative is helping children learn how to work together, to empathise with each other and how to look towards a more sustainable future through art classes. Now in its third season, with sessions running from last month up until March, The Dubai Saturday Club brings teenagers from across Dubai’s schools together with social entrepreneurs for educational programmes that aim to “make the world better and happier”. It was launched by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and inspired by the UK’s National Art & Design Saturday Club. In one recent session, which ran for the second time after a successful event last year, three Capoeiristas and a ‘time banking’ expert held a workshop for pupils teaching them to “be that somebody who makes a difference” and to spread a culture of sustainability and equality. Through the art of Capoeira – an Afro-Brazilian, low-contact martial art that is part dance, part acrobatics, part fight – a group of children learned to form sustainable communities. The capoeira allowed the teens to communicate without words and instead through action, fostering team work and compassion between the participants. The pupils played a game inspired by the history of the martial art, which is thought to have been developed by slaves in Brazil in the 16th century. One child took on the role of Zumbi, a Muslim Brazilian anti-slavery hero and prominent Capoeira figure. Zumbi then has to free the other participants, or slaves, from the Capitan by doing an Capoeira kick over their head. “The art is a great way to communicate without using spoken language,” explained Hind Al Mualla, chief of Creativity, Happiness and Innovation at KHDA. “It focuses on the positive and brings a higher level of empathy and compassion to participants towards each other and the work in general.” Marwan Ghunaim, the founder of the workshop, explained how through art forms like Capoeira, one learns to combine the physical with lifestyle and passion. “I first saw Capoeira on Jordanian TV in 1994,” he said. “I went down to the street to try to copy what I had seen, but it didn’t work, of course. “It (Capoeira) did not exist in our culture. So later I did Taekwondo in the street because it was available.” He finally found a Capoeira group after he moved to Dubai in 2010. He said: “My interest was the physical aspect, but after six months I learned about the community and the real meaning of Capoeira.” He then started his own capoeira group in 2013. A year later, he went to Brazil and “got an even deeper understanding of Capoeira.” “I was shocked, the physical aspect became ten per cent only,” he said. “Whatever struggle I faced in life, I started to think of it in a different light: how can I use it to facilitate my own life skills, instead of panicking.” He came across the KHDA last year, and they started generating ideas “on how to inspire the kids on sustainability … We gave them Capoeira.” Classes like these are producing almost immediate changes in the way the children see the world. In a game of musical chairs during the same session, the children were asked if the popular activity, where a player has to lose after each round, was fair and represented equality. “That is life,” the teens said. Yet Julie Hutchinson, a Capoerista and co-organiser for the workshop, assured them: “We will show you that life doesn’t have to be about winning and losing. “In [our version of the] game, there will be fewer chairs (cushions) in each round, but the amount of people will stay the same. The trick is to all be like Zumbi and take care of each other.” Two teams, one of girls and one of boys, were then encouraged to be creative in figuring out how to rearrange themselves to fit on a decreasing number of cushions after each round. The boys chose to stand on the cushions, the girls sat, but both teams managed to fit until the last remaining cushion. “We call this model team work, being a hero, being creative – it is sustainable,” explained Dana Dajani, a time banking expert. The children got the message. They said they learnt cooperation, collaboration, “to use our brains so we can all fit in, adjusting to one another.” Miss Dajani said: “This game represents what is happening to our resources and planet. We are a lot of people and our resources are getting smaller because we are not sustainable now. When we work together, we can use the resources to help everybody.” Inspired by what they had learned, the teens next engaged in ‘time banking’ – offering an hour of their time for an hour of another’s time. Standing in a circle, the children traded things like swimming lessons, maths tutoring, throwing a wool string out into the group for whoever wanted to take the offer to catch. Thirty minutes later, they were all intertwined in a complicated web of strings. © The National

© The National via Edarabia.com
